it's. the price of oil nosedives along with global stocks as saudi arabia ramps up production and a dispute with russia. also this hour turkey's president is in brussels discussing the unfolding migrant crisis at the greek turkish border where tens of thousands of refugees remain in limbo. and violence erupts in italian prisons with inmates furious over their conditions and the strict new measures brought in to combat the spread of coronavirus. welcome to the program and a happy monday to you all this is our to international bring you your live news
1:01 pm
update this hour. world oil stocks are taking a major hit following the failure of crude producing countries to agree to production cuts as a ban for oil falls i mean fears about the coronavirus saudi arabia says it will increase output after a dispute with russia with more here. quite a somber atmosphere here on wall street they are already calling it black monday we saw a 15 minute free is on futures trading when the stock market opened big dramatic plunge on the stock market the biggest drop we've seen since the 2008 financial crisis and on top of all of that we've got an oil price drop 30 percent decline in the price of oil a plunge in the price of oil the biggest drop we've ever seen in oil since 1901 and at this point it's being traced back essential each of the negotiations with opec saudi arabia has come forward and called for a decrease in oil production due to limited demand around the coronavirus well
1:02 pm
russia has come forward and said that this call for a reduction in oil production and a cap on oil production doesn't really make sense because it would give the united states an unfair advantage but this is what has been said by russian officials for russia's interests this deal is simply logical we giving up our own markets remove cheap arab and russian oil to make way for expensive american she'll make it worthwhile for them saudi arabia did not appreciate russia refusing to go along with their proposal for a production cap and so they flooded the market and the price has dramatically gone down 30 percent drop 31 dollars a barrel here in the united states and in response to that we've got economists talking about how dangerous this situation really is we believe you are. running quickly still to this weekend when saudi arabia aggressively cut the relative price
1:03 pm
which is still that's crude but the most at least 20 years this is turned into a scorched earth approach by saudi arabia in particular to deal with the problem of chronic production the saudis are the lowest cost producer by far at this point the whole world is waiting to see who will blink 1st russia or saudi arabia now the shale companies in the united states those are. companies that extract oil and natural gas from the shale of united states through the practice of hydraulic fracking they have been suffering quite a bit furthermore we've got algeria and france among other countries stepping up and calling on saudi arabia to negotiate and saying that they've got to get this resolved the world economy is in a jam people are very very nervous will wait to see what happens next. turkey's president is in brussels in a bid to find a compromise to the unfolding migrant crisis at the greek turkish border the visit comes amid a deepening diplomatic standoff between ankara and athens that's left tens of thousands stranded at the frontier peter oliver has the details. potentially
1:04 pm
combative meeting with the turkish president mr de wine later on monday. what we're expecting to hear from the line after this meeting is pretty much what we've heard from her as she heads into it she's been saying that turkey must take back the refugees and migrants it told were able to cross its border and try and enter into the european union and that there was a real need for action from ankara to deescalate the situation finding a solution to this situation should we cry or are we leaving the pressure that is put on the fortune and ensuring that the individual rights to ask for asylum is respected and it requires supporting both greece and turkey to deal with the pressure they are under well for his part president has sent a message to the greek government in which he said don't worry about these refugees
1:05 pm
and migrants heading to your borders open up your doors let them in because ultimately in the opinion of mr elder one they don't want to stay in greece they want to move through greece into other e.u. member states you ok agree these people will not come and strain your country they will cross it will go to another european country or you bother us who told you look at these containers this way we will open these doors that you didn't believe me now i'm telling you open your doors to get rid of these birds and well turkeys decision to tell migrants that they wouldn't try and stop them crossing into the e.u. has resulted in some incredibly tense scenes at the border that at times have spilled over into violence.
1:06 pm
well germany is the preferred destination for many of those trying to cross the border in the german foreign minister heiko mass has criticized for what he sees as un crew trying to use these refugees and migrants as political pawns europe's message to turkey is clear we believe in a fish sharing of the burden but we do not accept people who find themselves in desperate situations should be misused as political pawns well the situation has led to demonstrations in europe both in favor of taking in more refugees and migrants and against doing just that the crisis in syria has led to in the increasing violence in syria has led to an increase in the amount of people crossing the border from syria into turkey however the word from the greek
1:07 pm
authorities as to just who they've arrested trying to make that crossing from turkey into greece is that the vast majority of those people are actually coming from afghanistan the country of course which has its own. currently deteriorating in troubled situation on the ground there following the breakdown of a truce with the taliban. in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus the time governments lock down vast swaths of the north of the country the drastic measures were taken as the death toll in the world a 2nd worst hit country hit more than 360 amid the latest restrictions a wave of uprisings have hit a talian jails the science demands for improved conditions prisoners have been reportedly angered by new rules which have seen a suspension of family visits this footage shows a group of inmates on the roof of the sandwich or prison and milan burning imams and shouting freedom the most severe of all was seen in the northern city of medan which left 6 inmates dead and. sicily the relatives of some detainees gather near

and jail concern over a potential prisoner infection. so while his coronavirus has been raging for almost 3 months he spoke about everything except the prisoners this is unfair because in this building we don't even have manson right now nambla says just got in and we have no idea why one of the ministers to be prompted all this people have sentences of less than 5 years have to be treated as different measures at home and . we discussed the prison protests as well as italy and europe's response to the coronavirus crisis a political analyst paul ruff on he believes that he is efforts have so far fallen short. definitely in the prison those interests but. this is used to. uprise with the grizz and try to get the permissions to return home at least don't really so be says quite so disturbing events
1:09 pm
measures to be increased in the prisons because of course the inmates are very close to each other the possibility oh. the bottom spray he needs there but i mean all this outcry seeing is. not actually not just definitely. this is a bit of far mismatch in the provisions that the doctor used but on the other hand they say that means usually use a democratic country and around a number of interests to be taken into account you have as confidence is and can intervene above the member states but even in this case we could pass a c.e.o. of the e.u. to intervene in this emergency as being very vague because you calling just the sort of solidarity among states which has not been seen.

scores of south african women were sterilized and public hospitals without their consent relations have come to light and a new report we spoke to one of the victims who found that her uterus had been removed only when she tried to get pregnant 11 years later. toward the baby was too big and they had to perform a c. section i remember when i walked up i asked them why they have reached by mitch or my family then they explained their baby was too big and they include a nice 16 a good engaged after trying for about 4 to 5 months. without me being able to conceive with any thought i should go see a doctor just thought it was just my lamb and fertility issues dr will prescribe medication i'll be fine and when it goes there that's really learned that i didn't have to us at all i don't think there was anything wrong with me i didn't have any

complications before birth and i didn't have any complications after birth for some reason for i'm known reason they just decided to move my uterus i'm seeing it and non-greasy in because as i'm sitting here at this moment i don't know why i was leading this to alive when i met with dr ed ridge who confirmed that he was in the procedure happened he also could not give me the answer all you could say to me was that they did the operation to save my life i don't want to have my life from white . the commission for gender equality investigated complaints from 48 victims south africa saw sterilization as a way to fight hiv and hospital staff for some of the women to sign consent forms according to the world health organization the country suffers from the world's largest ivy epidemic more than 4000000 women are hiv positive and according to the report a legal sterilization that was carried out in 15 public hospitals between 200220058

study was complicated by the fact that hospital staff tried to hide documentation however the victim we spoke to says she's not even a hiv positive. positive or high. offices they are quite aware of this and i'll say this in camera they are quite aware of the practice and the into doing anything new i mean being held accountable it seems like our doctors of the law i didn't say in any couldn't have signed it because at that time i was a minor and my mom who was there with me all the time also didn't claim any quinson form no woman deserves to go through what i am going through and what you are all going through it is literally true lives i do not want to my daughter to be singing the same song that i am singing today because it's and bearable with the pain that comes with this it's and there is unbearable and most of all right it's. my right

1:14 pm
welcome back to the program we're not going to go back to our top story to get live
1:15 pm
reaction to world oil stocks taking a major hit following the failure of crude producing countries to agree to production cuts now to discuss this we're joined live by peter schiff c.e.o. of euro pacific capital company now what's your reaction to the eventful trading from today. well certainly did not expect this big a move down in the price of crude oil but i don't think it is sustainable i think that a lot of the. heavily indebted energy companies are clearly going to go bankrupt and so old to merely those that survive will be in a position to make even more money as the price of oil rebounds which i do expect to have but i think a lot of people are missing the fact that the fed is going back to 0 they're going back to q.e. or they're going to ramp up q.e. and i think the u.s. dollar is going to fall rather substantially particularly against the emerging market currencies and these consumers are going to be big buyers of oil so i do
1:16 pm
think that you're going to see a big increase in global demand from a falling dollar which ultimately is going to power the crude market to much higher prices now we've seen some accusing russia of starting in oil price war but moscow says that the opec deal was not an offer that just wasn't profitable so who is to blame here. i have no idea i'm not privy to those meetings but you know cartels are notorious for having a difficult time of sticking together so i say give the mean time i mean people will get the benefit of having some cheaper gas prices but don't get used to a. because it won't last i mean people shouldn't go out and buy a big s.u.v. because they think the gasoline prices are going to stay down forever because it won't and you know a lot of americans you know maybe they think it's good that they're not going to have to pay as much for gas but a lot of them are about to lose their jobs so they're not going to need to drive the work anyway so the savings won't be as big were you surprised at all by saudi
1:17 pm
arabia's decision to go ahead and up production when they were trying to find ways to cut production. yeah i mean it certainly did surprise me if i was expecting it i could have been short crude oil but i wasn't but i am taking advantage i haven't bought any more oil stocks today but i do think again with the dust settles the well capitalized companies are going to be in very good position to take market share the bigger the real problem in the u.s. economy is all the debt you know we have so much debt not just in oil companies but you know in all sorts of companies and everybody is missing this all of the analysts that are looking at the stock market can't see the bubble for the pin because the problem is the debt bubble it's not that pin that pricked it if it wasn't the coronavirus it would have been something else so the error is now coming out of the biggest financial bubble the fed has ever inflated and the big difference between what's happening now in 2008 is this time they don't have enough
1:18 pm
bullets left in their gun to reflate a larger bubble so now we're going to happen deal with the full aftermath of this coming crisis. you talked about the debt you talked about people losing their jobs possibly through all of this who do you think will be most affected by this price war. i mean which would you nation i mean i certainly think the u.s. will be affected i mean we've built up this huge fracking industry and i know from experience that you know that it's very expensive to get this oil out of the ground not only to frac the wells but to pay the cost of maintaining the wells refracting them and the production really has been very disappointing you get a lot of production early on and it rapidly declines and so a lot of these companies have a lot of dead and they need oil prices much higher than where they are now really $5060.00 a barrel kind of at a minimum for a lot of these guys to survive we didn't even have that before now we're in the low
1:19 pm
thirty's so this is going to cause a lot of devastation i mean i'm wondering if the u.s. government is going to try to bail out the oral industry and i hope they don't but they may they may bail out a lot of other industries too like they bailed out the banks in 2008 but you know what they may have to bail out the banks again i mean if you look at the banks today all the banks that they claimed were too big to fail and oh wait well they're a lot bigger now and i think they're all going to fail again. you talked about the fact that it could have been corona virus it could have been anything that's really popping this bubble at this point but at the end of the day it is the corona virus at this point in time do you think saudi arabia's decision to predict production is actually making everything more unstable. i have no idea i mean clearly you know destabilize the oil market and the oil stocks but there are certainly again segments of the economy that should be benefiting from lower oil prices and they're not so it's not about saudi arabia cutting
1:20 pm
or increasing their output and cutting prices the larger issue is the debt bubble that has popped and what we're watching now is the bubble deflating and maybe the drop in oil prices is part of that the flay should every process but ultimately the fed's going to get it all started again because when they go to 0 and when they ramp up q.e. the bottom is going to fall out of the dollar that's the opposite of what happened in 2008 in 2008 the dollar went up because everybody was buying it this time the dollar is going to tank because everybody is selling it and this commodity bear market including what's happening is going to be very short lived because once the dollar starts to collapse all these prices are going to rise including the price of oil russia has says it has enough funds to support its economy for a long time still despite the oil prices but how long do you expect this economic drop to last. well i don't know and i think
1:21 pm
certainly russia wants to pound this chest and probably you know posture itself in a stronger position than it actually has but again i don't think the oil price is going to stay down too long i mean it could be a matter of months but ultimately i expect a very sharp rebound in the price of oil once we get a collapse in the value of the u.s. dollar relative to foreign currencies and i do expect the price of gold to take off as well and i think it's very rare that you see this big disparity between the price of oil in the price of gold and i don't think this disparity is going to be you know taken away with gold prices coming way down i think it's more likely that oil prices are going to eventually go up to catch up with goal do you think russian fears that the opec deal will open the gates to u.s. shale oil are grounded. open the
1:22 pm
gates in what it what respect. making it more possible that that's going to take over the market need is not an opportunity for the. now it is this is the this is the worst thing for your shale i mean shale needs higher prices the problem is a lot of companies are going to go bankrupt from this decline even if it only lasts for a few months these companies can't make their interest payments on their debt and the banks are going to have to foreclose on the loans because the collateral for the dead their oil reserves will have just imploded in price so this is going to become a real financial crisis in the oil patch that's why i thought that maybe there'd be some kind of government bailout to try to prevent that from happening but everybody just assumes that when the oil price comes back the production from the u.s. shale industry is going to come back it's not going to come back if the producers have been driven out of business and there's no more investment capital to try to start the process all over again because the investors in that in that area have
1:23 pm
had such heavy losses they're not going to be quick to come back to the table just because oil prices have come up when they know how quickly they can come back down . we've been speaking with peter schiff c.e.o. of euro pacific capital company thank you for your time and your comments. the latest survey by the group the iraq and afghanistan veterans of america has revealed high levels of suicidal thoughts among service members the study shows i must have have considered taking their life since joining the military 2 thirds known of veterans who have killed themselves this all comes as no surprise to iraq war veteran and anti-war activists vincent emanuel most of the veterans that i know i think have. indeed i had those thoughts and i think. your mindset changes quite dramatically. throughout your service set i think after being deployed and
1:24 pm
especially if you. had seen or experienced combat and i think. after those deployments and deploying multiple occasions i think all of this plays a factor in whether or not. that turns are more prone to commit suicide to become violent to become addicted to drugs or alcohol people come home and lives in relationships and families are put under incredible stress because people are coming home and after having experienced all of those horrific things often turn to a very destructive behavior to cope with those things. almost 40 percent of veterans also report a lack of job opportunities after they leave service post military veterans say they face a loss of purpose they struggle with reintegration into community and normal social interaction health problems and getting treatment are other issues and sent a manual again says getting out of wars globally would help. the u.s.
1:25 pm
government unfortunately is not doing enough the u.s. government has done more over the years the veterans administration is in much better shape today than it was 15 years ago when i 1st started using it but that's not because the government took it upon themselves to do it it's because thousands of veterans and family members of veterans stood up and fought for those things and of course the wars continue to go on so we need to deescalate all of the current wars we need to withdraw from afghanistan completely we need to withdraw from iraq we need to withdrawal from syria we need to withdraw from libya we need to withdraw forces from somalia and all over africa. and that would be the best 1st step if we don't the the best thing you can do for veterans is to not create more veterans. that's all for this hour news wise but if you're looking for more ahead on over to

creating these problems it's a huge epidemic of problems all of them i believe can be linked to a very simple problem of diet and some dog owners so heartbreaking stories about their pets last treats the larger corporations are not very interested in proving or disproving the value of their food because they're already making a $1000000000.00 on it and there's no reason to do that research. hello and welcome to cross talk are all things considered i'm peter lavelle russia

and turkey negotiate deescalation regarding what is next for syria also coronavirus is it time to start rethinking the impact of globalization. talking some real news i'm joined by my guest underneath me good i own he is a professor at the moscow state institute of international relations we also have dmitri bobbitt she's a political analyst and editor and innocently internet media project and in london we cross who are going to be curious he is a writer on legal affairs as well as editor in chief of the duran dot com all right gentlemen crosstalk rules in effect that means you can jump in anytime you want and i always appreciate let's go to london 1st alex we had a stress test over syria particularly and we had the leaders of turkey and russia meeting and we came to a conclusion now it can be spun a lot of different ways but essentially the turks back down why. well i think the
1:30 pm
back down for 2 reasons firstly the the fount that militarily they were outmatched they're not in a position to take on the syrian army and the russian air force one on the same time and they were suffering casualties and i think that was one reason why they pulled back but the other reason was that they found that they had no diplomatic support or military support or political support from their western allies that the united states ruled out any military action in support of turkey they refused to send it to provide air cover for turkish troops and turkey found that instead of europe coming to turkey support the europeans instead were very critical of turkey's actions in libya.
