i. know there are military and you're watching in question broadcasting live from r.t. american national headquarters in washington d.c. we want to welcome our viewers from all around the world on to our top story cope at 19 continuing to take the world by storm. 19 infections now reported in at least $190.00 countries and territories leaders from all around the world are racing to respond to the global pandemic with some leaders already contracting the virus themselves over in the u.k.
3:01 am
british prime minister boris johnson has revealed he has tested positive for coke at 19 after experiencing mild symptoms as a result he will self isolate and continue to lead from 10 downing street also britain's health secretary matt hancock also will self isolate african tracting the virus and in a surprising announcement just earlier this week from the royal family prince charles also testing positive for the virus back here in the us which now ranks number one in the world for the highest number of coping 1000 cases a navy hospital ships are being deployed to help local hospitals in the most hard hit states over to norfolk virginia where president trump is expected to see off the u.s. navy hospital ship comfort headed to new york city which now is considered the epicenter of the coded 1000 outbreak in the u.s. and then over on the west coast where the u.s. navy hospital ship mercy is now docked at the port of los angeles to serve as an overflow facility for patients who don't have the virus we have coverage from both
3:02 am
coasts artie's natasha's suite starts us from the port of los angeles. will of the newest and biggest hospital in los angeles dump right behind along here at the port of los angeles the u.s. and that's mercy is said to have at least 1000 hospital beds and some 1200 to duty medical personnel to treat patients who are free of cope at night. as many people are avoiding hospitals right now in fear of getting the coronavirus the u.s. in a smirky will be a safe place to get medical treatment this will also free. medical equipment so that crowd of iris patients will have all the ventilators they need right now 90 percent of beds across the country are already taken there are only about 200 beds left available in the intensive care units. we are not the point to treat people like you patients are taking corrective measures to ensure anyone coming before is properly screened for comfort 19 to mitigate the risk of acute for. governor gavin
3:03 am
newsome initially asked president trump to send a ship to the port of los angeles as the number of covert 1000 cases in the state continue to climb according to john hopkins there are currently some 1200 cases in los angeles county and more than 20 deaths related to covert 19 right now the governor is calling for the closures of parks and beaches as he says it's difficult to practice social distancing among the crowds when you're out there and you can find parking at a beach it suggests you're not going to practice social distancing it may suggest you may want to find a new location but to make it easier for you we're going to shut down all state parking lots and that will go an effective immediately but california residents say while it's not easy to practice social distancing to a t. getting outdoors is essential for our health i would just say i have no judgment for anyone trying to get outside it's a really stressful time i'm also a doctor and i understand why people can't cluster at the same time so you know i
3:04 am
think it's a difficult balance. but the good news is that most people do work cover from the printer virus and so keeping these people on the ship separate from those who do have hope it might help lessen the exposure to the elderly and those who are at risk aborting in san pedro such a sweet heart. in new york where the navy hospital ship comfort is expected to arrive on monday the main body will arrive at joint base mcguire decks like hearst tomorrow they will set up at the javits center to. we can and they will be operational for non covariant patients beginning monday president trump traveling to norfolk virginia to send off the 1000 bed vessel to america's biggest city all in an effort to help hospitals deal with the drastic influx of patients as new york remains the epicenter of the outbreak so the idea here with the corps of engineers with fema. and with the state and local officials is to
3:05 am
work in collaboration so that we can provide skilled medical professionals. to take some pressure off the local and state health care system without with our army professionals the situation in new york worsening by the hour the state accounting for more than a 3rd of coronavirus cases in the country hospitals being pushed to the brink i've never felt so. easy clay and emotionally operating in my life i've never felt so deeply sad the strong governor andrew cuomo estimating new york hospitals will need at least 140000 hospital beds and more than 30000 ventilators the state now allowing hospitals to treat 2 patients with a single ventilator we have approved a technology that allows one ventilator to serve 2 patients what they call splitting which is where you add a 2nd set of tubes to
3:06 am
a ventilator to do to patients it's not ideal but we believe it's workable the shortage of safety gear at one new york hospital is so dire nurses have had to resort to wearing trash bags meantime hospitals are preparing for the worst take a look at this grim video of teams setting up a makeshift morgue outside of bellevue hospital something that was done during hurricane sandy and $911911.00 was nothing compared to this we were open waiting for patients to come home never k. . ok now they just keep coming this as new york city remains on lockdown to slow the spread of the virus but i'm sure you. can get the perfect ticket for security. mayor bill de blasio sending a powerful message ordering the removal of fastballs who clear out the city saying group activities must stop.
3:07 am
the mayor also closing baseball fields and other parks this says a white house coronavirus task force aims to ease nationwide guidelines meant to stem the corona virus outbreak that will be presented this week in the pros and a range of recommendations and additional guidance. for going forward the president's made it clear that in his words he wants to open the country up. all the global coded 1000 pandemic has proven to be indiscriminate from royals like prince charles to the minister of health matt hancock to now even the british prime minister boris johnson. i develop tomorrow symptoms of the corona virus that's to say a temperature and a persistent cough and on the advice of the chief medical officer i've taken a test that has come out positive so i am working from home i'm so far isolated
3:08 am
and that's entirely the right thing to do. with infection confirmation is growing many brits are growing frustrated in the government's response and the optics created from the prime minister being able to what's perceived as cut the queue for a coronavirus test former u.k. m.p. george galloway is here to weigh in so george many brits are upset that the prime minister who seems to be displaying little to no symptoms at all was able to obtain a test people view him as a queue jumper when the commoners who are very ill in hospital can't even get to test themselves how do you view the optics of all of this. well as donald trump a week or so ago i mean that is though. of the world the people who are running things people who are in charge will be able to jump queues the problem is not so much the the prime minister of britain can get our coronavirus test but the other
3:09 am
people cannot particularly the doctors and nurses who presumably administer of the test to the british prime minister it is a scandal of monumental proportions that not only can the our medical stuff not get a test many of them are without even the basic p.p. either personal protection equipment were working without masks or working with the reuse mollusks in a way that it clearly has stumped on the problem that you must not do that's the big scandal not the boris johnson and the health minister and also the chief medical officer by the way of 3 of them no down with coronavirus today this bug is 1 seeking out politicians like a heat seeking missile all over the world the political leaders are there was in
3:10 am
our circles are being somewhat disproportionately struck down another tells you one of 2 things a mother in law out of the other something really dark and mysterious is going on are the millions and millions of us have already got this this just being tested and we're not you know i think i'm with you on that one george i mean there's no way to tell because it seems this global shortage of the task now given that george it seems though as the wealthy the elite the lawmakers they seem to have no problem finding those tasks we know it's not fair it's not equal but for these world leaders like boris johnson and for leaders like donald trump surely. they be given preferential treatment because of their roles in this world their job. well not in the world as i would design it but in the world we have of course
3:11 am
that's going to happen and by the way some of them are being tested when they have absolutely no symptoms of joe senator ron paul we talked about a week or so our goal absolutely no symptoms but able to get a drop of a dollar or 2. the way of the world that drum described it but it is a remarkable thing that countries that go around the world invading and occupying other people's countries projecting their military power are everywhere aircraft carriers nuclear missiles cruise missiles everything they've got except face mosques for their own doctors and nurses go figure you're absolutely such a shame that i mean those are the people that again that are going to pay for it now george mr johnston says he will still be working from his home office at 10 downing street he's taking every precaution to conduct his duties while self quarantining he says documents dropped off at his doorstep video conference and
3:12 am
what have you though mr johnson is only aged $55.00 george does the u.k. have a backup plan in the case that the prime minister falls too ill to carry out his duties. well speaking personally i wouldn't boris johnson out to buy a loaf of because i wouldn't be sure that it would come back as i had ordered it or in the state i have left the shop 5 and so i don't think we're going to be much worse off if mr johnson stays home for a week or 10 days maybe 2 weeks the real work of combating this is going on in the hospitals and in the medical prefer. of course war is too important to be left to generals fighting a virus is too important just to be left to doctors and we have a backup plan a but i'm sorry to tell you the backup plan is dominick rob didn't know that
3:13 am
most of our imports came our across the channel from cal the door of our butt is our foreign secretary but there's a lightly loved emerging the chancellor of the exchequer young mother of us knew a couple of weeks ago most of us can pronounce his name is rishi so knock he is the next prime minister of britain mark my words interesting we're we're putting the predictions way out there george so thank you for that you can come back in mention this when that happens lastly i want to touch a little bit on the royals the royal watchers are bringing up queen elizabeth in the duke of edinburgh now now that we know that prince charles has tested positive now given the queen and duke's advanced ages are there concerns for their well being. yes i mean they're obviously well corseted in
3:14 am
a big castle with presumably the best story of medical equipment and attention around them but they are exceedingly of the layout mongst the oldest people in the world. well into the ninety's the juke is almost 100 years old i tell you what the last thing britain needs right now god forbid is the pershing of the king of the duke of edinburgh and her majesty the queen. people are definitely concerned all right we'll leave it right there george galloway always appreciate your insight thank you. and health care workers are also faces to fly shortages some even resorting to raising money online to get those critical supplies details next in a full reform. and then over at the sports h.q. regina hamm shares part one of her interview with a get this world record surfer one myth that.
3:16 am
join me as the supposed to be all excited when sure and i'll be speaking to get us to the world of politics for those those i'm sure i'll see you the. breaking news this just in from washington president trump has just signed a 2 trillion dollar coronavirus relief package this just hours after the house passed that bill and just minutes ago the u.s. has now reached 100000 confirmed cases this enormous package though it was approved by the senate late wednesday night provides hundreds of billions of dollars for industries small businesses unemployed workers and health care providers as well as
3:17 am
direct payments to american citizens hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic which has devastated economies around the world president also signed a presidential memorandum invoking the defense production act ordering general motors to prioritize the quick production of ventilators claiming that the company was wasting time. now those ventilators and other personal protection equipment better known as p p e's are desperately needed across the u.s. hospitals in the country overwhelmed by patients infected with cope at 19 the frustration among u.s. governors begging for those critical supplies is reaching peak levels so much so that some states are taking drastic measures r.t. correspondent john hardy has the latest from miami where florida is also dealing with dangerous shortages as well john so what's going on there. well there have been concerns here in the one south florida emergency rooms urgency rooms here in
3:18 am
miami miami dade county about. the supply of face masks you know the end 95 masks we've talked so much about over the past few weeks surgical gloves and of course ventilators among other things running out in fact as we've seen and continue to hear about medical professionals from florida to new york new york to california expressing their frustration about not having enough p.p.s. as you mentioned as they're called being zajac that they'll need more and all those things the gallons the gloves the face mask the ventilators will eventually run out as they continue to be besieged by new coronavirus cases there's been the contention between the governors of various states most notably governor andrew cuomo of new york charlie baker of massachusetts and president trump and other federal officials about adequate supplies being delivered by the federal government to the various states. that are available as of now well today president tweeted
3:19 am
quote 1000 and i'm assuming this is a typo but 1000 of federal government the liver ventilators found in new york storage new york must distribute now in texas the associated press shot video of 750095 masks just sitting in a houston warehouse basically in limbo because the governor of texas accuse the distributor of price gouging something the warehouse owner that distributed denies doing but instead saying that he sold them the willing businesses or individuals who plan to distribute them to health care workers and or hospitals like that remains to be seen we don't have really more details on that but president trump has essentially told states to order their own p.p.s. rather than rely on the federal stockpile which is something that governor baker said that his state did expressing his frustration during comments to the media listen to this. i stand here is someone who is confirmed orders for millions of pieces of gear evaporate in front of us and i can't tell you how frustrating it is
3:20 am
. you know we now have other orders that are outstanding that are probably quote unquote confirmed but we've literally got to the point where the basic position is until the got until the thing shows up here in the come off the mass it doesn't exist. but i'm telling you people are spending hours and hours and hours trying to get this stuff here. and that's really been echoed by other governors you know we've heard governor andrew cuomo all week and kind of a back and forth between him and trump about the lack of adequate supply and you know particularly again you know being on the table about the ventilator issue well the president and you mentioned this at the top manilla. said that he's invoking the d.p.a. the defense protection act to order general motors to make thousands of ventilators by april after the white house and automaker were basically locked in a dispute over g.m.'s production and ultimate supply of those ventilators so we'll
3:21 am
see how that plays out and speaking of which in new york there really seems to be at this point as far as this overall issue disconnect between governor cuomo comments yesterday during his press availability that the state's hospitals are now stocked up on p.p.s. and the head of new york state nursing association basically the union representing all the nurses who says that the governor is wrong that nurses are having a really is their equipment because of the ongoing shortages so while that debate continues so does this ongoing fight for more ventilators governor cuomo today rebutted president trump's comments that new york was sitting on thousands of ventilators and storage as i mentioned earlier in that tweet saying according to the governor quote were gathering them in the stockpile so that when we need them they will be there we don't need them today because we're not act capacity today a final note here in florida looking at as we've been doing all week as i've been
3:22 am
reporting all week looking out the number of cases there were 6 new coronavirus could rotavirus deaths overnight bringing at this point the total of coronavirus deaths here in florida to $34.00 with more then at this point $2900.00 total cases and that number by the way just went up in the last hour and a half and continues to go up as we've been talking about and that remains a huge concern that we're going to see this. explosion and now that we're just starting to get a handle on the idea about the number of cases because of the drive through testing centers being opened and more tests being done that this is just the beginning and just a percentage of probably what the real number is that said tonight starting at 10 pm there is a citywide curfew that goes into effect here in the city of miami so it is no joke they're taking it very seriously at this point manila back to you john heidi with the thorough report there. and well. over to louisiana where the number of corona
3:23 am
virus cases they are have jumped 29 percent in just one day it's all being blamed on mardi gras revelers officials say infections rose to 2300 overnight an increase of $510.00 cases from the previous day so far there are $86.00 deaths related to the virus there city officials are now shutting down the city and businesses are boarding up. all right let's go over to regina hamm of the sports h.q. would you know you had a chance to speak with a lot of athletes in the good old days when we could still go outside at the laureus sports award but there was one woman that really stood out it was it's pretty impressive because athletes are really always looking to make waves and better themselves at their sport for one resilience or for maya gabby etta she did just that went down in the record books for her latest accomplishment i had a chance sit down with her at the laureus sports awards and asked her how she felt after making the guinness book of world records it was you know a dream come true really after so many years in my sport than thinking about the
3:24 am
record and trying to figure out how to accomplish it not only. in performance wise by surfing their wave and completing it successfully but also politically how to start the platform and get the guinness and to recognize not only a world record but also a woman's world record so it was quite surreal. and it all happened how have you seen women surfing grow since you started i mean you were a teenager when you started you've seen it explode all across the world what is your perspective on that yeah it's pretty amazing another level of performance from the girls and. through the roof i mean they're surfing so they're very young they're coming with a lot of professionalism of koch is and parents they're very involved in their 2nd or 3rd generations and to surfing so their level is amazing it's amazing to watch
3:25 am
their they're very professional dedicated athletes which is very awesome to see and it's very inspiring and i think in a way of surfing also we have had a huge huge movement coming from girls in hawai and now you know proving and eyes are as well and told surfing scene we just had our 1st competition there right at other celt all surfing and we had 2 women myself and just in the pond. representing in the middle of a field of the best bit were others in the world and i think we weren't really behind then you want to we're just competing pretty equally and in and out was to me the 1st in our sport the 1st time i've seen a field that didn't have much of a difference and that the judge yourself made headlines because this year now they agreed to that will last season really that men and women are going to be equal prize money what is your take on that and has this been really long overdue. i
3:26 am
don't think it has been long overdue i mean if you look at other sports you know how the n.b.a. is salaries for woman and man are a very different number i think it has a lot to do of the business behind of viewer numbers than and how much you can regenerate or the business of the sport and that will translate to the woman or man in the sport i think it was a very bold move. the money is not equal you know the viewership is not equal but for some reason they felt like that was the right time to to make that statement and to elevate the prize money and to make it equal and to give that that opportunity for the female side it's amazing to be able to bring home the same kind of prize that the male and your sport is also doing but i never thought it was it was over do i think it's a lot more about the opportunity that the woman have than read it trying to match the pride for us with the man i don't i don't see that as the biggest importance
3:27 am
and sport. and that's all from us in sports if you manilla very cool thank you for that regina and that's it for us right now make sure you check out our brand new app called portable t.v. you can catch me there 247 i'll be back in just over a week i'm going to channel on c.n.n. they help me. a dark industry comes to life in los angeles every night. dozens of women sells their bodies on the streets many of them under-age. los angeles police reveal a taste of their daily challenge if you're going to exploit for a child here in los angeles they were going to come as you would see officers going undercover as 6 workers and customers to fight the 6 trade.
