3:04 pm
bola trials researchers found the drug increased the risk of liver damage and similar results were found in 3 u.s. coated 19 patients their common side effects include not vomiting so it still remains to be seen just what will come out of these clinical trials now rachel we have heard a lot of mixed information coming out of president trump's administration and president trump himself he has actually been going on about this malaria drug as some kind of treatment what can you tell us about that that's right so president trump has repeatedly touted hydroxy couric when a common drug for malaria as one that could help coronavirus patients and in his latest briefing he claimed americans don't have anything to lose by trying it take a listen i want people to live and i'm seeing people dying. and i've see people that are going to die without it. and you know the expression when that's happening. they should. really do we have to we also have this

have been infected by employee this is the 1st known infection in animal here in the u.s. or a tiger anywhere in the world the spore year old tiger and 6 other big cats have also fallen ill good news though they are all expected to recover however the finding now raises questions about a virus transmission from humans to animals. protective medical gear is in short supply as well as psychological assistance as suicides now start to rise out of this corona virus outbreak we'll speak with a clinical psychologist about this and then later at the sports h.q. regina hamm brings us some breaking news in the gold world of morning one of the biggest events on the calendar don't miss it we'll be right back.
3:11 pm
join me every thursday on the excitement sure and i'll be speaking to get a feel of the world the olympics for those lives i'm sure both of those. i don't trust medical authority at all ever and the reason for that is i had this horrible water i mean just our growing up and it turns out it was completely alleviated with very drastic dietary measures and i went to a number of doctors to discuss what happened to me and i was basically laughed at like diet has nothing to do with our immune disorders so my suggestion to people
3:12 pm
who have health issues they can't figure out if they're going to see a medical professional and they've been going for 10 years and they're still in the same place they should probably take it upon themselves to start testing things out testing out diet testing out exercise and try and figure out things on their own. this is a story of women women with troubled histories and complex cold cases you know some of us did leave leave who lives out there. who were not. the person that is the cheesiness of the considered the most dangerous of criminals she's in a civil. all the off 23 hours of the day tell me that it's not enough for this but it will give women on death row going on to.
3:13 pm
more than 10000 covert 1000 reported deaths here in the u.s. nearly half of those are coming from the state of new york state officials are on close watch as the surgeon general warns this week will be a difficult one for all americans and new york's apex is only days away artie's trinity chobits has the latest. today the javits center now america's largest hospital officially taking coronavirus patients. originally dedicated to non kovan
3:14 pm
1000 patients the now 2500 bed facility is staffed with over a 1000 doctors nurses and other medical staff to help care for the drastic influx of infected patients governor andrew cuomo reporting the total number of confirmed cases in new york now surpasses 130000 with over 4700 confirmed deaths nearly 3000 new cases in new york city alone overnight it's very hard to see the number of deaths we're having. it's frightening it's disturbing that amount of loss the undeniable truth here is that this virus is a deadly enemy and we will lose and we are losing people who are vulnerable to the virus new york city hospitals feeling the crush many overflowing facilities having to store bodies of virus victims in street trailers this as officials warn they may begin burying the city's code in
3:15 pm
1000 dead in local parks but i'm not going to go into those kind of details i'm only going to say we will have the capacity need we need as i said over the weekend we met a way we may well be dealing with temporary burials. so we can then deal with each family later but again i am just not going to detail when we have something to say we will doctors and nurses around new york city sounding the alarm demanding additional protective measures and much needed personal protective equipment as they remain on the front lines we are demanding that we get all the hornet supplies that exist a p.p.a. so that we can protect ourselves our families and our beloved patients and communities we can't do it if we're dead every day when i go to work i feel like. she's going to slaughter my colleagues and i are writing our last will and testament i'm 28 years old we fear that we may not survive this pandemic and yet we
3:16 pm
show up every day to this hospital to take care of our community while officials say they have enough and 95 masks to last through the week the mayor says that the city still needs because hospitals are at risk of running out to be a tough week people have to be careful and conserve on the crisis standards working on. meantime the governor is also calling on local governments to crack down on social distancing violators increasing violation fines from $500.00 to a $1000.00 and i want to be frankly more aggressive in the enforcement because all the anecdotal evidence is people are violating it a higher rate than before well the governor's extending new york's pause once again this time until at least april 29th the state posted its 1st drop in daily deaths suggesting that social distancing is working and flattening the curve reporting in new york trinity chavez r.t. . now as the pandemic spreads the shortage of personal protective equipment for
3:17 pm
medical workers increases with local governments everywhere calling on citizens to help make homemade ones for donations to workers another shortage less mentioned is access to mental health during this crisis now a number of americans in every state who visit a psychologist regularly have found themselves with nowhere to turn as spikes in domestic violence are being recorded suicide hotline is being inundated with calls and one man in india even escaped quarantine only to hang himself after he learned police were looking for him so joining us to discuss the psychological impacts of the kind of virus pandemic dr norman fried he's a clinical psychologist and professor dr fried always good to see you can you 1st touch and. can you 1st touch on the topic of p.p.a. for us for you. your friends in the in the medical and mental health field how worried are you guys and your colleagues about this. we are still worried about not
3:18 pm
having enough people to the point where social media in the environments where we are living are filled with our request saying if you have any extra equipment please don't keep it in your house bring it to the hospital or bring to a certain place where we will pick it up and we will be able to use it for those that need it the most there are now rules where everyone is supposed to be wearing a mask but for those that are still hoarding things that don't they don't need we're asking to please drop them off at one location where we can then bring them to people who need them the most absolutely i think my twitter feed is of course jammed with that as well and dr as more and more people turn now to tell how you know the fancy name for a face time call face time type therapies to cope with what's going on now what about those in the lower income brackets who may not have access to technology they they would rely on going to these face to face state run facilities who may not
3:19 pm
offer counseling through technology how can mental health mental health community step up to help those people who might be falling through the crap. it's a wonderful question monella and i want to just start by saying that my practice is now 100 percent remote through some version of face time wars or any kind of social connection through the computer but there are many don't have the access to the social media and therefore are suffering and what i want to say is there's absolutely a need to reach out to clergy to your priest or rabbi or even mom your neighborhood . program that is actually available to you in religion and spirituality in addition i ask everyone who is capable of at least making a phone call to a therapist to say to the serapis to i wonder if you have a sliding scale or if perhaps at a time such as this because of our dire need we could have a few sessions gratis every one of us according to the american psychological
3:20 pm
association is required for the ethics of our community to give you gratis therapy to those that need it and so it's not a bad idea to ask you sara post can you help me for a session or to come i have exists one session for free i can't do this without your help that is a great thing to hear dr i did remember hearing governor cuomo in your state of new york calling for all medical professionals to come out and are there services volunteer on a volunteer basis to help people because a lot of people don't have anything to do that and and for in you yourself dr are you getting more calls and more people reaching out for for your time for your advice. so it's interesting when i left my practice is now down 50 percent in terms of census repeat who came for other issues but up 50 percent in terms of those that are calling and in need of attention because of the fears that they're going
3:21 pm
through so at this point not 100 percent of my psychotherapy which is done remotely to tell a health is all about fear of corona infection fear of contagion fear of death and i do a lot of grief and bereavement and trauma therapy so it's 100 percent that i will say that the practice is shifting but unfortunately for our societies we are still in dire need of mental health support and it's very good that there are those that are offering volunteer time i wish more like myself would offer of their time because we can help as best as possible and real quickly are states starting to change their laws in terms of have a policy that cetera to help reach more of those people who need help via technology i know a lot of lawmakers have concerns about privacy and whatnot what are your thoughts on that. my thoughts are that i am maintaining the proper hipaa laws i'm doing it however through face time i maintain the same level of competency ality
3:22 pm
and privacy for every one of my patients and there's nobody in my room when i'm doing psychotherapy the door is shut is completely empty but i do want to say interest to enough we are now finding that we have becoming licensed across the nation which is something we didn't have before so i can do telehealth to somebody in california will i perform the work here in new york and that is making it much easier for many people to get the help they need and we are trying as hard as possible to offer everything we can at may perhaps this might be the one good thing that comes out of the end of we see the light at the end of the tunnel doctors that maybe this opens the door for a lot more people to have access to mental health by way of telling health thank you so much for sharing your expertise dr norman thank you now i'm free thank you. all right let's head over to regina hamm of the sports h.q. reduce some major date shakeups over in the world of gold you would be surprised but it's also at this point not surprising anymore because there is more news
3:23 pm
