5:00 pm
thank you. hello there i'm going to hand you're watching in question broadcasting live from our t america national headquarters in washington d.c. we want to welcome our viewers from all around the world. and we've been following breaking news for you the british prime minister boris johnson has been moved to the intensive care unit in hospital after being hospitalized for worsening covered 19th and dense this just 10 days after he tested
5:01 pm
positive for more on this we will turn to if that i'll be in london for more is that. i sure hope at 90 you know decided to use self isolate inside 10 downing street and late last week we understand that there were reports that his assistant continued most since in just the march after around 7 days they start to clear up but the prime minister after about a week conceded shows that it images are isolated and then we had the news that last night to run the same time that the queen was adjusting the country in which prerecorded message boris johnson was taken to hospital joseph hospital which is just down the road just across the river thames from where the house of parliament and downing street a located now initially the line coming out of government was that boris johnson was in a good condition he was having a comfortable last night spent in
5:02 pm
a hospital there were many others especially sources suggesting that he wasn't as well as the government were suggesting that they had to go to the hospital on the sunday night meant that his death case or his situation deteriorates it well it turns out that earlier this evening he has been moved from the ward in the hospital to intensive care and of course that means a significant step down incentives of his well being in terms of his condition and the french president sent a tweet out saying the. he wishes boris johnson a speedy recovery now in this situation what comes next boris johnson has to all intents and purposes been incapacitated so the foreign secretary dominic roth is also the status minister state essentially he is the prime minister of defense in the east stepping up and will be annexing prime minister if you will want out boris johnson seeks to get over this illness there are of course no reports or any of the
5:03 pm
attention yet as to whether mr johnson is going to stay there how long what period of time is going to be there is he going to get any spit from now and he is it intensive care which suggests that the prime minister is he not in a good state that's all and a lot of controversy as well of course is that there have been reports that many hospitals in london have been simply overwhelmed by the number of patients and their charts to treat so again will or is johnson's treatment at that hospital mean that somebody else will get access to an i.c.u. better sense of care unit bed those who question has to be but so now dominic grow up for all intents and purposes is the acting prime minister of the united kingdom wow isa lee live for us in london of course we send boris johnson our well wishes as well thank you. i covered 19 obviously continuing to tighten its
5:04 pm
grip around the world as of today the total number of global infections now more than $1300000.00 cases and reported deaths now at $73000.00 with recovered cases that a shocking took 75000 now leading the way the u.s. with more than 350000 confirmed cases with reported deaths topping more than 10000 today and recover cases almost 19000 and taking a closer look here at the united states copa 19 continues to batter the economy as well this as hell. experts ask to bring back roosevelt style era programs with we hunt on to find treatments one industry under pressure our pharmaceuticals there's a lot of research going on but there are also hurdles which may slow innovation like patents here's artie's alex mileage with more. of a coronavirus is expanding. and so is the world's need for a vaccine or
5:05 pm
a cure many on. terra jane langston is a recovering covert 19 patient from the u.k. i mean is very painful i've described it as having like get lost in your throat glassine you as long as. you know and the fact that you can't breathe is so so scary to save time and help people like langston experts are looking at treatments that already exist for other ailments that me help in the fight against covert 19 this puts one industry in the spotlight pharmaceuticals with research going on around the globe many are optimistic about the discovery of a vaccine or cure in the near future and maybe just be medicine that already exists drugs like hydrochloric women which the u.s. president has high hopes for i would love to go to a laboratory and spend a couple of years testing something we don't have time we don't have 2 hours
5:06 pm
because there are people dying right now if it does help great if it doesn't help we gave it a shot there is however one major hurdle when it comes to using existing medications and that's patents used to protect the making using or selling of inventions from copycats patents are important to give patent holders control over their innovations on which they often spend millions to develop something which is common in the pharma industry but there is one problem patents can also slow progress some would argue in this case patents create a broad block for scientists around the world who are desperately working towards treatment for covert 19. corporations can voluntarily remove or ease patents and some governments are saying if they don't they can be forced to germany's parliament has voted to install powers to suspend patent rights a tool last used by the country in 1949 has for the u.s.
5:07 pm
lawmakers have never invoked such legislation but in the current situation and under mounting pressure from states that could change fundamentally however right now companies can choose their own priorities it is a profit or is it people the reality is for many corporations shareholders come 1st currently the drug ramdev severe is being tested to treat covert 19 further along in testing than many others the drug maker gilliatt has received a lot of heat over the medication gilliatt obtained exclusive access to the potential coronavirus treatment and critics claim the company is trying to cash in from the crisis while the company has promised to increase production of the drug and offer it for compassionate use there's some hope it will allow others to produce generic versions of the deaths of ear giving access to more people but right now that doesn't seem likely the potential for major long term profit from the drug may be just too appealing some are saying making a profit is ok but if
5:08 pm
a company chooses to price gouge the government should step in gilliatt is promising that that will be the case gilliatt isn't the only company out there with a potential treatment for the virus chicago based holds the patent for an each i.v. drug called collect truck which is currently being tested as a weapon against covert 19 obvious has suspended its global patent rights on collector a giving free access to its innovation the drug is being tested by multiple clinics to fight the corona virus and other pharmaceutical companies which do not have drugs in the running are also trying to pitch in. a number of industry insiders are collaborating to fund preventative measures and treatments for covert 90 for one the american multinational engine is working with partners in hopes of discovering therapeutic antibodies from recovered coronavirus patients the canadian wing of the company has gone so far as to encourage employees many who are medical experts to
5:09 pm
volunteer in the fight against the corona virus during company hours you know the effort to find treatments is real and the push is unprecedented but if some pharmaceutical companies choose to raise blockades it might be the government that has to knock them down for r t m l it's my. current economic economic stimulus checks will begin being doled out pretty soon as we continue to watch record high unemployment claims being filed today outside the white house economic adviser larry kudlow spoke to reporters about how that economic stimulus is coming along i still believe given our assistance package and hope that maybe prayer that we're at a 4 day week period we can get a pretty good snap back ok good snap back that that's my oh. well.
5:10 pm
you know. the center the center we begin to reopen the faster that's not taxed and that's the rule that i think most economists would agree with but the line coming from president trump and his advisors is the same america's security coronavirus cannot be worse than the virus itself so joining us to discuss is us co-host and swan so ben there are 2 programs i believe right now that are under way as a result of this 2 trillion dollar stimulus bill what are those programs for businesses and how do they differ. yes so the main one that's out there right now is the p.p.p. the payroll protection provision which essentially is set up as a way for businesses to protect their payrolls by going to the government and getting essentially stimulus checks to cover about 2 and a half months worth of salaries and also utilities and rent or mortgage in fact so far there's been several $1000000000.00 worth of applications that have filed larry
5:11 pm
kudlow spoke about that today as well listen to this. 38000000000. and 130000 loans from 2400 lenders. big banks include a lot of it's community banks so just to answer your question. let's see what happens i mean our job is to execute what we've got so you've got. assistance going out to 175000000 people. so what you're hearing there is that basically an explanation that says that since friday when the p.p.p. those. programs under the cares act that was what was signed by congress the 2 trillion dollars opened up those applications opened up on friday and then they've been kind of moving through friday and then on monday and so far about $38000000000.00 has been applied for so far so that's a pretty significant amount remember there's about $350000000000.00 that's been set aside for businesses so that's what's been applied for so far the other program by
5:12 pm
the way is an s.b.a. program that helps and since about $10000.00 to a business if they have suffered some kind of economic collapse essentially because of some kind of emergency that the thing that these 2 big programs have in common than the law is that if the government comes back after this is over with and says you use the money the way we told you to these are forgivable loans you won't have to repay them if you use the money in a way you're not supposed to then you'll be on the hook to pay him back ok so there are definitely some strings attached right so now we know that the unemployment numbers just from the past week were way worse than anybody expected somewhere around 6 and a half 1000000 people do you think it's going to get much worse from here. well it certainly could i mean in the last 2 weeks was a centrally seen 10000000 people file for unemployment that's an incredible number we may see another 3 to 6000000 people again this week do that but remember these are not permanent unemployment situations right now if we keep things moving along
5:13 pm
and people do get back to work so one thing that kudlow says something the president keeps saying there is truth to it the sooner the economy gets to come back the less permanent these job losses will be people right now are filing because they have 0 hours you can file for unemployment if you have no hours but if they get hours back if they start working again then they'll get their jobs but the problem is the longer it goes on the harder it is for businesses to come back because they will be able to afford to come back so that it's a balance right now between hurry up and get getting businesses back open again and not doing it before we essentially hit those peak numbers which according to you know some reports say that the country as a whole will hit its peak at about 11 days will see if that's true and then real quickly lastly what about the many people who might fall between the cracks like some of these undocumented workers that we have here in the u.s. they're not going to get a piece of that stimulus. that's right they're not in fact not only are they going to get a piece of that stimulus but there are a lot of people who might not get
5:14 pm
a piece of that stimulus remember you have to go to a local bank in order to get this it's not being issued by the s.b.a. itself banks are handling it you have to go to your local bank with whom i would assume you have some kind of relationship so anyone who's unbanked is not going to be able to get this probably and you have to be able to provide to them document showing that you deserve to get this money you do have to consider the fact that so far when there's $350000000000.00 set aside and only $38.00 billions accounted for that's about 10 percent of those funds so far that have been accounted for so you know there's a long way to go and there's a lot of people who will get missed out and remember the other part of the population that's supposed to be getting money in the form of stimulus checks that are mel directly to people who make less than $75000.00 a year couples that's $150000.00 a year but those checks there are reports saying those checks may not arrive until august in some cases wow so what do you do in the meantime a lot to figure out one thank you so much for that update you got it. right americans are calling on president from to introduce and after they are style new
5:15 pm
deal to keep the country from entering another great depression we're going to discuss this and later at a sports h.q. regina hamm takes us to russia where one team takes the game of soccer to a pretty muddy place take a look. as we head into the bitcoin singularity it's the single most important thing that ever happened to humanity sans the creation or invention or just come real fire. the world is driven by a dream shaped by one person. who
5:16 pm
5:17 pm
longer. all the. 10000000 people over the span of 2 weeks applied for unemployment benefits as coronavirus had americans pocketbooks with numerous layoffs and furloughs as businesses struggled to keep afloat now americans are calling on president trump to introduce an f.d.r. style new deal to keep the country from entering another great depression but as
5:18 pm
our next guest has said before on this very show trump is no f.d.r. that man is larry king host of politicking right here on our t.v. he's going to weigh in on all of this larry you are a great depression era baby you were too young though to remember f.d.r. implementing the new deal but you certainly became a beneficiary of those policies later and the last time i spoke with you you said trump is no f.d.r. and you've known the guy since the 1980 s. but. me you couldn't if there was no one ever do you are one of the low which president 1st time she was allowed to in the midst of a great depression what did that need to go on so you're always going to be wary when you get words where he said something you could never stand which is your only thing we have to fear is fear itself you lead the country to what we did was you leave go to america for putting americans to work. in jobs in america so
5:19 pm
americans build post office and they build the memorial stadium in baltimore and they build highways so they are also productive again an american investor that mad and then along came a break if it could be called a break world war 2 and world war 2 took this completely out of the past depression and to an economic boom but had rose will not lead i don't know where we'd have gone and what what i what we lack today and i get personal against. is we lag a degree of leadership andrew cuomo show me the ring is the ties that bind bind us together who forms with us into the future and right now there's a decline in that and all we have is i see no management at the top larry kudlow is
5:20 pm
. in the forecasting the same thing for the. strong comes out every day i gotta stop coming out i don't think he helps the situation i mean it this is a very very sad story and larry being that he claims to be this businessman similar to f.d.r. shouldn't he see this as an opportunity to become perhaps the biggest jobs creator in history or do you think trump is going to back down to big corporations here. biggest myth we've had of it the better the businessman the better the president f.d.r. or a businessman he was governor of new york and then the course he entered politics and jury and maybe. herbert hoover a businessman failed as president businessman live one of the keys the admin that is businessmen depend on
5:21 pm
a profit that's how they deal with. politicians don't have to look at possibly a little good friday night and she'll much we made sure that coming at it from different vantage points but this is man thinks of business and he's fine when business is ok but when business is not ok he does not have big answers and that's the tragedy with going through at the moment and larry another historical note here that a lot of people don't realize it at the arc initially had universal health care as part of the new deal but he agreed to drop it to a later date and discuss it later because he wanted to rush it through congress a lot of democrats have been trying to make this a reality ever sence to no avail do you think this virus might force the discussion and perhaps make universal health care even a reality. of convenience the step up from obamacare norman thomas the socialist candidate for president 1932 we will all be football's. national health care
5:22 pm
fact people mold and let them different things should jemma them are not a lot i think we're just a step away from accepting the fact that hell is a right. you are entitled to good health and therefore you can't be turned away because you can't afford a prescription or you can't afford to go to the hospital we we have to come to the camp socialism have capitalism work we need a better health care system that we have. and larry lastly you have obviously talked to the who's who of politics for more than 50 years prior to this pandemic hitting america was was so divided down party lines congress just hadn't been working nobody could reach a deal on anything you could ask them which was which tab was the cold water but do you foresee this crisis perhaps bringing congress together in any way and then what new leaders do you see emerging from this. first made better things have to get
5:23 pm
better or if they can't get worse. and yes new leaders will emerge andrew cuomo is one that the government. shall we shouldn't sell because it matches i think already he's gained credible national attention we're going to see changes changes changes the only thing that's positive and a moment of the best but i'm a little little depressed about the wars i'm not sure i'm not sure. all right well we're happy to have your wisdom shared on our airwaves today larry thank you as always appreciate your insight thank you. thank you dave. other news from across the nation the governor of wisconsin announced he will postpone the state's presidential primary for 2 months all due to the coronavirus pandemic the executive order from gov tony evers a democrat would delay tomorrow's in person voting until june 9th state republican
5:24 pm
leaders plan to challenge that move in court calling ebbers decision and unconstitutional overreach. all right let's head over to the sports h.q. with regina hamm there to regina professional sports are obviously kind of on a hiatus right now it's seeming that all of the world amateur sports are just coming out of the woodwork they are you know ross is what ronald reagan ronald reagan you know pressure sports are very much on a break in the seasons are on hold so what about our times you go look at some of the amateur sports around the world and in russia they took soccer and played it in a dirtier way than is normally seen on the pitch it's called swamp soccer football and yes the field is actually supposed to look like that the game is played net least kneedeep mud with a pretty early pretty heavily set of modified rules games are played into 13 minute halves and the 2 teams consist of 6 players on the field at a time there are no offside rules corner kicks penalties and throw ins are made
5:25 pm
with dropkicks players can't cheat your shoes if they get too muddy during the game and it has a surprisingly large following in europe russia hosts the swamp soccer world championships every year and over 2000 players representing over $165.00 teams are willing to participate in this dirty sport thankfully the athletes do get a chance to relax and get clean at a sauna afterwards. there is more news or good regarding sporting events postponed or canceled around the world this time golf has set out a new group of dates for some of the biggest events on their calendar the latest postponement announcement being that the masters tournament usually held 2nd weekend of april will be moved into the fall news regarding spring's biggest golfing competition because after the sports organizers have been trying to piece together some some of the sky. for the past 3 weeks with no official starting date masters has played 83 times and then 1034 the only cancellation being from 1903 to 45 as a result of world war 2 needed while across the pond the 149th open championship
5:26 pm
will not be played at all although that was scheduled to be precisely held in july if the 1st time the british open has been cancelled in 1905 also due to world war 2 and was supposed to be played at royal st george's in england the open will be pushed back a year to july 15th 18th 2021 and that will mean the milestone 150th edition of the british open were returned to st andrews links in scotland in 2022 and you know take a look at the changes to the golf counter p.g.a. championship schedule he played in may will now be played august 2020 years open found itself moving on for its june date to september 2020 interestingly enough the ryder cup that he played in september doesn't really fight itself with a change of date and of course the masters have said earlier we played november now to april but they're likely to be some upset due to conflicts with college football season and the n.f.l. so manila it's really interesting with all of these sports being pushed to the fall push for the fall push for the fall you're going to have a lot over at this pressure for broadcasters they're looking at ok you know c.b.s. has football you have n.b.c. that has the other events how are all these majors were people going to handle all
5:27 pm
this i'm not sure i mean can you imagine baseball overlapping with football and i mean it's a lot of the n.h.l. is actually on twitter you know some sources are saying the n.h.l. looking at playing in north dakota to try to get some games in you know it's a very strange sports landscape right now well let's just hope we are able to see them come back better i mean that the code of my writing has subsided so we'll see all right thank you for that regina ok so that's it for right now but make sure to keep up with everything in question at all times by downloading our brand new free app it is called portable t.v. can go to your app store check it out it is free to watch all the news 247 there is a pretty good look now follow me on twitter at manila chan. remember the question mark i'll see you here at 10 pm eastern. libya. believe. the i'm led.
5:28 pm
live. i don't trust medical authority at all ever and the reason for that is i had this horrible autoimmune disorder growing up and it turns out it was completely alleviated with very drastic dietary measures and i went to a number of doctors to discuss what happened to me and i was basically laughed at like diet has nothing to do with autoimmune disorders so my suggestion to people who have health issues they can't figure out if they're going to see a medical professional and they've been going for 10 years and they're still in the same place they should probably take it upon themselves to start testing things out testing out diet testing out exercise and try and figure out things on their own.
5:29 pm
in this community there are people who believe that it's ok it's over actually it's really hard there are no jobs and you see the kids that ask and as a parent. i can come up with arguments and there's a lot of conflict within the game and between me and most of the conflict i would say over those around morning and the most of them is me. close one you know the children's of those children is good because the state of california makes 6000000000 clues you have to presume cope with just to get some point in your life where. you don't care anymore nobody cares about you so you don't care mind anything.
