3rd let them tell it of the stimulus package nobody has seen a chick yet and the majority of folks who actually saw all the relief are going to be these major corporations we also saw that what was it the airlines got billions of dollars in terms of a bailout it leaves one of them has already laid off hundreds of thousands of employees it's only expected something that congress should have actually put into into the stimulus package before they handed over that cash because one of the issues we always see is that. the government likes to bail out big business and those bailouts don't necessarily help the people who work for those businesses or the people who lives those services and i think that right now we're seeing a lot of businesses taking advantage of workers particularly those essential workers that are working in your grocery stores the folks who are driving your the folks who are working in amazon and other other factory related businesses and aren't really thinking about their health or their safety so it is high time that people take to the streets who will get it will take to the internet to get as much attention around this as possible i saw the great meme kind of come out of all this

where you know they had a play on bruce willis and armageddon where it's kind of like hey essential workers we never want to pay taxes again ever with you know the pledge because you know they're that needed but this is insane and you know what the demands of like let's say the chicago look at chicago amazon warehouse workers went on strike their demands are not terribly aggressive they say basic simple demand says cover medical bills for employees or family members who contract the coronavirus as a result of exposure at this warehouse suspend write ups based on the rate at which workers package and sort deliveries to ensure workers have enough time to actually practice safety precautions and at the end maintain transparency about all the coronavirus cases that are out there where how that happened at the warehouse and soon as managers know about them that's pretty easy simple the measurement desolately they're not asking for anything pie in the sky they're not asking for anything they're honestly not asking for any extra free stuff either what they are asking for is basic access and what you're talking about those who work for amazon

what people have to realize is that over 70 percent of their workers are low wage workers or part to part time workers or contractors these are individuals who do not qualify for health insurance under amazon and these are the individuals who are making sure that everything you and anybody else across the globe is ordering gets to them because they have to be in those factories and they're not getting their basic necessities and no they're not and then when you go over to the rent side of this thing we're seeing people said i can't pay rent people 1st and we've just passed up with a. people stand up saying what i got no job i got furloughed all my supposed to pay rent this is ridiculous and it's not about like paying rent to somebody who owns a condo who's you know rents out to a few people you know these are big corporate landownership big corporate groups that own these apartments this is about saying standing up to a corporation saying i'm not just going to hand you money when i have a member give exactly and in most of our major urban centers the chicago the d.c. the l.a. what you do see is that a lot of these are a lot of runners are paying their cash to very large groups that multiple buildings

in many cases across multiple cities at the same time these are individuals who are going to totally fall apart should they create some sort of relief for people who honestly can not come up with the money right now and not all of them are asking to not pay anything at all a lot of them are asking just for a little bit of extra time because they simply do not know what next week is going to look like what that's what is going to look like and they know that they. are still do but right now they're making some really intense decisions a lot of that is whether you know the lights are going to stay on keeping food on the table their kids are at home and again a lot of these individuals do not have health insurance so they're also trying to come up with the cost of those medical bills and that in that level of care i say i applaud them for standing up and saying no we're not going to take this and just to quickly before we move on to the next subject of 34 states have actually issued extensive moratorium sort of actions but that still means they have to pay the back roads and that doesn't mean ok we won't get evicted but then you know 8 months from

now they're going to have like 2 months where they got to make up for a no one can afford about at the end of the day come on. mandatory quarantine shelter in place stay at home however you phrase it the meaning is the thing stay home save lives as the world continues to grapple with the realities of its latest invader at 19 the safest place should be your home but if you are a victim of domestic violence coronavirus the cautions put you guys. in the crosshairs across the united states reports of domestic violence skyrocketed in the month of march in conjunction with a growing list of cities and acting stay at home borders domestic violence calls are increasing to law enforcement agencies are seeing double digit cases in calls across cities like houston charlotte chicago in phoenix the national domestic violence hotline a lifeline call center averages $1800.00 to 2000 calls per day. a perfect storm of

desperation is growing for people rapid job loss job uncertainty for those still employed housing insecurity and rip pylons it just keeps getting worse and worse the financial stress alone creates an unhealthy environment leaving families with a history of domestic violence on the brink of disaster with many kids being home from school and college during the coronavirus pandemic young people have a lot to the abuse and assault as well to top it all what is being called pearl harbor week as the coronavirus backdrop consumes every part of our daily life domestic violence shelters are fighting to keep their doors open there has been no government stimulus program despite our nation shelters at capacity and their fundraising capabilities hampered this is personal to my best friend and sorority sister megan montgomery was shot and killed by her estranged husband just a few months ago and my own little sister right now is fleeing domestic violence with my 4 year old nephew and 2 year old niece into as we battle coronavirus we

have to also think about those fighting for their lives at home where shelter in place is no shelter at all. this is a great a great story a great subject matter that you brought you brought up today and we should because it's one of those things i think we forget too quickly these are those things that slide through the cracks for saying oh i want to stay at home be safe from the virus will like as you pointed out what if there's potentially more dangerous or equal to the billions of catching the virus absolutely in a think but it poses so many issues because the whole meteorology around domestic abuse and abusers is that they want to path to isolate the people they have this gives them the perfect way to do so these individuals aren't visiting family because they can't they aren't interacting with friends they have no real estate and now they are cooped up in a home with this abuser 24 seventh's and what do you do where do you go how do you with skate key. and you even call is that even safe because now this person is here

watching you all day all day and then when you add when you add in those we're talking earlier today when you add in the dangerous mix you know your mentioning you know the loss of wages the pressures of being under the slow you know idea of what any minute if i go outside and talk to the wrong person i could get sick and go you know good all that when you add to the mix to an already volatile situation the domestic abuse is this is this is something that we have to kind of figure out an answer for real quick because we can't keep going on like this we can't keep putting these people in danger like this absolutely and one of the other things that we also know is that a lot of people who suffer from domestic violence of domestic abuse are also folks who have symptoms of depression anxiety and all of these other mental health issues that come from living a life of constant fear we also know that those individuals and that the support that they need from mental health centers and they're not getting we're talking about the lack of money and the lack of attention paid to these the method shelters those mental health clinics and that support has all but been eradicated over the

past 4 or 5 years and a lot of cities across the country where a lot of those places have completely shut down and right now the phone is ringing off the hook to get some type of assistance to those in need and you know and whenever you talk about these cases to you also talk about like a lot of the victims of domestic abuse are world one point able to use hotels or b. and b.'s places like that to run to your lease like hey can you give me some but i got to get out of their situation they get picked up dr already. now that's not an option really it's not there at all and we've seen air b.n. b. extend itself to a lot of our frontline workers a lot of our nurses because they recognize that those people can't come in contact with their kids when they go home but we haven't seen that sort of outreach to domestic violence victims so they don't have any place else to go except the home to stay in the home where they're being abused every day and the standing of the even more saddening part is that many of those individuals who express who. violence my sister being included 8 do their best to shelter their kids from it

even when they're in the same place either you know they will have somebody come pick them up they put them in daycare they put them in after school programs all of these things to try to mitigate them actually seeing it live right now none of that is possible what what is the what is the way that you see someone not only who started this many years but also someone has mentioned some of the family do it what is the way out what to do what can government do how can people help people right now i think that they do and it's tough because we're seeing so it's an election year and election year politics are always very wonky and difficult the reauthorizing the violence against women's act and we need to do what we needed to do and yesterday i don't care who the president is what we know is that domestic violence is not respected blue or red it doesn't care what region of the country you're in and what region of the world you're in we need to get to a point where we are sounding the alarm where those people aren't able to get guns right now that more we need to get to a point where we are providing a safe haven we need to increase the amount of funding to those domestic violence

what wire the virus response on a state level state to state governor to governor why are they so divergent and why is there no cohesiveness to the state responses. well i think i have 2 perspectives on this one with the political hand and one is i was once chief of staff to the governor of missouri and when i was chief of staff one of the things that i was briefed a lot on was the state emergency management you know when you came to understand that you had certain challenges that were specific to your state specific to you or at that time the state the state guard the state police the state laws so some of it is just a structure and some of it is how each state is set up and some of it is a preference based on things like in st louis achievement missouri for example 2 major cities samus in kansas city run our state. that kind of tended to to adjust things in terms of the urban rural component to me you don't with that differently but then wearing a political hat these guys and gals at the top of these states these are the some

of the coming you know most talented coming men and women in terms of their party so they're also trying to find their role and i you know we talked to our organization my going to say should the philosophically goals are eagles or in most states and places like montana they want to do less right they think they want to do less and they want to be more you know kind of free and let things go and as you said in places where that's happened the governors have a rush to adjust their policies again we're dealing with a something it's everybody i think agrees is so once in a generation or once in a 100 years everybody's adjusting on the fly one thing i would say from a conservative perspective i like seeing the states being in charge i like andrew cuomo being strong only he's always been right but i think he's been the one who's saying hey here's what my community needs you know then you get to blasio who made a mess of it for a period in his adjusted so i think we're seeing on the that the on the fly there just into the problem and we're going to see florida's paying a price for some of their decisions but other states have been ahead of the curve

and i look at missouri my home state they just decided a couple days ago to sort of go fully shelter in place i think it's because we could see the numbers and it made sense for them to i think that's a better way for our country to work. i think i probably agree with me when it comes to states actually taking that leadership role especially especially considering who is in the white house right now. the thought is set to have the largest wave of crisis coronavirus cases and it's grossly under-prepared in terms of possible infrastructural rule medicine clinic closures if they want to expand medicaid why aren't republican governors in those areas addressing their health care infrastructure. well i think a couple things 1st of all i think most states you know we look back and they'll be plenty of time for this you'll see that most of the states did not spend the money to stockpile resources as with. present referred to and that's both parties i think they thought well this will never happen to us or if it does will it just look i think most of the scientists are saying we're trying to flatten the curve and slow

the spread but we're going to see it go every you know it's going to spread across the country everywhere and how we deal with it as you point out is going to be the question not i'm heartened to see the adjustment of states i think it was maybe illinois that was sending ventilators to a different state in other words we're going to see this movement of resources around the country the key thing is going to be though to a both tasks and adjust where we see it growing and then make decisions about how we sort of restart our country and restart our economy one thing i'm frustrated with with both the presidency the president and the and the governors is what's the plan i mean we can't stay sort of in our homes for 60 more days we have to have a plan on how to start this process not phased you know phase 3 entry into the workforce whatever it is but i look at i think to be plenty of time for the south to adjust i think you'll see guys like cuomo and others who will help the federal government stamp but it's all once again

a generation or 100 years challenges we're facing that it truly is of and it's interesting to see just you know how under prepared we were further this for this and as somebody you know i'm i'm a big i believe states should definitely be you know in charge of taking care of their own states they know there are people that we agree very much on that can but can states compete with the pedal government for supplies in the marketplace i mean we've heard can talk to governor bush or him paddick we say that states come up they can't compete with the pads when it comes to spending in the marketplace and i agree with you the feds need to get a plan in place not just for getting people back to work but for handling the virus in the 1st place. yeah i mean a couple things on that 1st of all the state governments can't print money which is what the federal government just did which is you know we can say oh really. to have inflation during this time period where you can't raise prices but it's a disaster in the making to print a trillion dollars worth of dollar bills i mean so we can all agree on that so i grew i understand what the states mean but here's the here's the challenge i would

say is that in our states we have i think we have to have a little bit better accountability in our states i'm talking missouri now for a 2nd the biggest the biggest employer in our state of the government is the hospital system b j c in st louis it's a nonprofit it's one of these nonprofits that everybody makes a fortune at their real estate development company like these universities that have billions of dollars and downs and they lay off the cafeteria workers in harvard that when this week i would like to see our states and our leaders both parties are held hostage by these hospital systems in every state and also the insurance companies that are still making money off of this these are the people that need to be pressure points the hospital system b j c in st louis has billions of dollars they could be buying whatever they want and they turn around and say oh look we're hamstrung i'm sorry the top guy at barnes jewish b j c is make it 3 or 4000000 dollars a year to run a hospital system i mean we've got some problems i think we're seeing

a realignment in this country of the see who the corporate actors are and how it's impacting things now i will say this i would say we need our health care system to allow more transparency in price and more competition i think others would say we need more money in the system but whatever it is we know the health care system is not doing well enough it's going to be the topic going forward in the next couple years i will say this that is we're for the shop the show to bury and thank you for coming out of i will say this though that i think we need to rethink our entire economic and health care system from the ground up because if it can't survive american spending almost for 4 weeks that have some of them there is something wrong with the to begin with thank you very much sir always a pleasure ave officer. great to see both. crew man alive what a show it was today big topics and scary times that may show but we have to wrap up now so i can make a disco that has stars over you today and a member everyone in this world we're not told that we're loved enough so i tell
