price with the. dependency and addiction to opiates is the long term use that really isn't scientific just now study actually suggests that. the long term effects might not just be absence of benefit but actually the long term. greetings and salutation. here in the united states we lost conservatively conservatively more than 12000 individual souls to be coded 19 virus and that number is only going to rise by the time this tragedy has run its course mainly because our political leaders failed to act when they should have in the wake of the tragedy hard questions must always be asked here in the united states of

america one of the most important questions begging begging to be asked of our great elected officials from donald trump to nancy pelosi to mitch mcconnell is why did you allow this to happen why did over $12000.00 americans die on your watch especially when you spend $1.00 trillion dollars of our tax dollars on national security this year alone the trumpet ministration secured a near record $750000000000.00 in defense spending but what kind of security are you buying us one a simple virus can crush our economy and health care infrastructure in just a few short weeks naturally the most common answers we have citizens get in return when we ask these questions is either a litany of spoiled toddler like finger pointing like the kind we witnessed this week when u.s. president donald trump tried to claim his an adequate season failures were. all the

fault of the world health organization or or the other excuse one of my own personal favorites in political excuse making the a big protests we just didn't see this coming which which might be true appear in every average every day jane and john q citizen but when you were the house speaker when you were the senate majority leader or were near the president of the united states we didn't see it coming is no excuse especially when the very military industrial complex that you worship that you and our money over to warn you of this very catastrophe 3 years ago according to a 2017 u.s. northern command plan out of the pentagon the nation reports that the pentagon was not just well aware of the threat of a nobel influenza but even anticipated the consequent scarcity of ventilators face mask and face mask and hospital beds. schumer palosi donal rubio cotton and

all and all and all the rest my friends late run out of excuses recent weeks have taught the american people that we are far from in the trillion dollar security state they have built around us in fact we are out in the cold as we start watching the hawks. what's going on a city you street. looks like see the rises you always stay i'll see you always strikes me as crazy see this least systemic deception is complete show which will be so when the guild is. welcome aboard watching arcs i am tired rover those are and i'm nice across a major i'm sorry the the excuses just keep piling up now but in that it's like every other day it's well it is world health organization's fault well known as this person's ball when at the end of the day i'm sorry i'm a little angry but. at the end of the day i'm tired of excuses out of our leaders
9:34 pm
especially when it seems like every other week that this virus goes on we see that the knew somebody knew everyone knew we had a time that this was coming down the shitter oh absolutely and at this point trump has he feels like he has to play the blame game because he does not take responsibility for anything on his own we know that he's known about corona virus since january the alarms were raised they were doctors they were scientists they were other nation state leaders who were telling him about it there was also a task force that was supposed to take place then that we did not see actually happen until just a few weeks ago so he can't say that he did not know he can't also just point blame to the world health organization the world health organization for its part issued warnings early on as well and they ifill as though at this point we have a president who one just doesn't like taking responsibility for anything but also the initial peak that he saw from his announcements about coronavirus report weeks ago in terms of polling has now gone down so initially there was

a bump that said that you know people were gathering they were doing that round the flag gathering that americans do when there is a certain tragedy that is happening but then they saw him say that everything will be open by easter they saw him you know tell businesses that everything will be fine they saw him tell the american public that this was not going to be a big deal and all of that fell flat on its face he doesn't want it his own role and definitely been a bust but what about congress you know congress is the ones who they're the ones who decide what money goes where they're the ones who spend you know a trillion dollars on national security and clearly we're not that secure clearly our priorities were not you know our priorities were what we got to build more warships and guns and tanks and bombs that virus doesn't care about that now people might say oh well that's hindsight 20 twentieth's well no it's not when you were at the pentagon telling you in 2017 saying hey this is a major issue that could be coming down the pipe to practice i mean they literally pointed right to the family that covert money team belongs to saying the most likely and significant. it is
9:36 pm
a nobel respiratory disease particularly influenza disease i mean right there can't be more plain than that what we know about congress is that they have a habit of writing blank checks to many things particularly as it relates to as it relates to a lot of our military intervention a lot of our funds for that it's interesting that they did not take because they also didn't take this seriously we're talking congress from both sides of the you congress members did not see this as something that we should actually be really building up our awareness for that we should be building up a lot of the supplies for if they did if they had paid attention to this to this acknowledgement years ago we would not be where we are right now even during the george w. bush administration and now you know trump's administration is making his look glowing but during the bush administration he had a stockpile and believe that there would be something like this that would happen and this was what 2 administrations ago at this point and it baffles me that congress. has chosen not to pay this any attention until now you're not the only
9:37 pm
one baffled dennis kaufman who served as the head of infectious diseases and countermeasures division at the defense intelligence agency from 20142017 he actually told the nation quote the intelligence community was warned about the threat from highly pathogenic influenza viruses for 2 decades at least they have warned about a crowd of viruses for at least by years he went on to call law makers saying quote there have been recent pronouncement that the corona virus pandemic represents an intelligence failure failure it's letting people who ignored intelligence warnings off the hook that excuse basically is them trying to say oh don't blame. you but yet you are precisely who we should be blaming right now absolutely and we don't have a problem in paying intelligence mornings attention when they don't have to do with help you clean exactly. and because nothing says protecting u.s. citizens from a buyer is more than starting a potential war and u.s.

navy warships are now headed to the caribbean and the coast of venezuela in a dangerous new move that could escalate friction between the united states and been its way or the u.s. claims its navy presence in the region is to counter illegal narcotics operations but they've been selling government says it's preparing for any potential conflicts r.t. correspondent john hoodie has more from miami. america's war on drugs is taking aim at venezuelan president nicolas maduro and his so-called cartel of the sons the trumpet ministration indicted majeure and several others on drug trafficking and narco terrorism charges march 26th an extraordinary announcement that diverted attention at least briefly anyway from another ongoing war the coronavirus war then last week president trump announced u.s. navy ships were heading to the caribbean and the coast of venezuela to beef up america's anti drug operations in the region we're deploying additional navy destroyers combat ships aircrew. helicopters coast good cutters and air force
9:39 pm
surveillance aircraft doubling our capabilities in the region. in response to the indictment called president trump a quote racist supremacy cowboy announced last week he was preparing his military for battle the calling for a cease fire during the coronavirus pandemic in this tweet he blamed us and colombian conspiracies to quote fill venezuela with violence moderate has long been accused of being involved in venezuelan drug trafficking along with the cartel of the sons a reference to venezuelan army generals who wear the sun insignia on their shoulders and are also accused of providing safe haven and support to the colombian anti-government guerrilla army organization fark venezuela has become a major cocaine distribution route used by drug traffickers flying through central america or by sea and going through the bahamas and then on to destinations here in the united states like miami or new york new jersey baltimore and philadelphia
9:40 pm
among other ports like the u.s. invasion of panama and arrested manuel noriega also accused of drug trafficking in 1989 the trip administration's indictment among dural is being seen as an effort to remove him from power perhaps even by force whether or not the u.s. indictment of madeira and the naval presence in that region is a precursor to an invasion remains to be seen but it is clearly shining a spotlight on the dura and venezuela so-called cartel of the sons for r.t. john hardy. you know it's amazing to me that you see whether it's venezuela or even iran over the middle east but right now at a time of imminent danger to citizens at home the word we're worried about. whether or not he's a drug trafficker about that there seems ridiculous to me we always have a habit of finding someone else to attack and someone and another. to demonize you
9:41 pm
probably already know how i feel about the war on drugs in general the global war on drugs is even more problematic and there may be some issues with the winder which seem i think that people could admit to that but the united states basically going out on an all out drug war in the midst of it a global pandemic is it's not the right time it's not the place and i think that my comments towards towards donald trump and what we're seeing happen there are extremely poignant at this moment. really and what's what blows my mind is you really want to stop the drug war if you want to you want to crack down on drugs i have an idea and the prohibition of narcotics and the prohibition of that because guess what that's the only reason the only reason that you have violence around the drug war is because it's illegal because you know people criminals are running it you take that out of the equation and suddenly you don't have a problem anymore but this you know element of saying oh we're going to go after it as well to me it's just you know it's using the drug war to promote regime change but like under cover of drug war you know it's like well we didn't like the guy but
9:42 pm
let's like drum up some charges against him just so we can quickly remove him from office while everyone is distracted with the absolutely i think that that is that hit the nail on the head specifically because everyone right now news cycles are covering the pandemic 10 pandemic 247 no one is really talking about this and any time you bring up drugs you bring up gangs you bring up weapons then it is often used as a reason to not have your actions question because nobody likes drugs gangs and attacks of course but you know and nobody likes a but the but let's also let's also be real about the drug war for a lot of communities across this country that's the only option they have for economic it's viability their god so it's tragic about it the shadow economy is the only economy that's reaching into their neighborhood saying they will bring their jobs will bring your money will be able to pay so your family can be that's the real tragedy of the entire drug war to begin with and instead of supporting a global metric of. development for a lot of these countries that are central and south. who are falling to gangs and
9:43 pm
drugs same as communities that are all into gangs and drugs right here in the united states this president and i would argue congress members as well aren't doing enough to support and to build these areas no they're not and we still have to remember too is that most there's also been they've not they've also not brought forth any actual hardcore concrete evidence of this alleged cartel that's but operating out of venezuela apparently from the president down. but in fact most u.s. data says that a small fraction drug routes do run through bit as well but most of them run through our ally colombia and mexico and things like that the venezuela is small on that list so that's why i mean it really just kind of stinks to me at the end of the day i'm hey everyone's talking about pandemic let's let's move over and see if we can depose but while we're at it and no one will raise too many questions because if we did this when people were worried about getting sick then there might be more questions about that kind of regime change and there's always time for it.

went on find themselves worlds apart. chance to look for common ground. the unemployment rate is not projected to reach 30 percent of america higher than the great depression the stock market's up 30 percent from recent lows and the size of the central bank balance sheet has expanded by trillions so the question is which came 1st the expansion of the central bank balance sheet or unemployment what is the cause and what is the effect as we've been saying on the show for 10 years central bank balance sheet expansion causes the unemployment because it causes the deflation that causes the economic duress that creates the unemployment.

the l.g.b. t.q. community is disproportionately affected in our homeless population they're being discriminated against in work in educational environments not to mention health care and access to quality care the children ministration and the republican party have consistently refused to allow the equal rights act to see the light of day denying much needed support for this under-served group and the harsh reality for americans is that minority groups are 2nd class citizens. for l.g.b. team members of society covert 19 has brought their daily realities to the forefront even in a global pandemic there is little news coverage of how this particular group is affected considering the barriers to health care access members of the community are at great risk according to recent polling 72 percent of the population expressed concern about the impact of coronavirus on them and their families their concern is valid america has a long history of discrimination against groups specifically game in and trans

women and even when these brave individuals are stepping up to help others in need they are reminded of their 2nd class status in december of 2015 the f.d.a. the lifetime ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood to a one year deferral period for any man who's had sexual intercourse with another man this ban was in place where god was of the fact that all blood irrespective to sexual orientation has to go through rigorous testing now let's be honest the ban doesn't make much sense considering it only targets came in what about heterosexual women and men who engage in risky behavior with multiple partners are they any more safe and now amid the covert $900.00 out break as calls for blood in plasma donations rise and blood banks find themselves at a crossroads to meet the growing need the f.d.a. rethought its stance on blood donations the new guidelines reduce the donation deferral period for sexually active gay and bisexual men from 12 months to 3. it

shouldn't take a pandemic boy quality and lifesaving support to reach the poor front of american consciousness could become all a virus be a watershed moment for l g b t rights and advocacy here to tell us more is preston mitchell writer an educator fessor of law at georgetown law center welcome present. and you drag me. it's really fascinating when you look at the history of the f.d.a. as treatment of gay men i mean originally they were banned from giving blood donations back in the 1980 s. and with the hiv aids epidemic we've come a long way since that era not only in our understanding of the virus but also prevention methods why did limits to why do limit still exist and blood donations from gay men and why is this the group that is most excluded when it comes to issues like this. homophobia is that easy we're about to use here but i would like to start by setting it by painting a picture 1st so for more than 30 years sexually active gay bisexual and other men
9:51 pm
who have sex with men and trans people i should say have been prevented from donating blood so in the f.d.a. is guidance f.d.a. has specifically noted and recommended that blood establishments indefinitely just for mel donors from donating blood since 977 if they've had sex with another male so the regulations itself were put in place in 1803 in the wake of the aids cases and the related panic that we've seen and that many people have experienced so long hardly anyone tests positive for things like blood art student test positive for h. i.v. because of blood transfusions and blood is test that we now legally have 30 plus years of discrimination on the books again why i say that is is because of homophobia here's what we know we know that all blood is tested so even in the face of science in the advent of technology lot of some particular communities is automatically perceived as damaged damaged and dangerous and not worthy of save you know life. take
9:52 pm
a step back by saying in 2016 i wrote an article so the group called polls tragedy homophobic blood ban puts lives at risk the purpose of that article was to describe the need to push the f.d.a. for overturning the entire ban not just issued temporary orders not just issued deferral periods in that piece i specifically said we cannot wait for another tragedy to realize just how important having more access to blood donations is now look we have a national strategy tragedy in the form of public health crisis and it's a shame that f.d.a. is just now deciding to rethink their already discriminatory ban. and preston americans now have an outsize reliance on government from small business support to checks to stabilize working class families the government has played more phone than print to the people historically what happens now. so i think what happens now is the government needs to continue having honest hard
9:53 pm
conversations with themselves with community members so part of the truth is you know and to be clear as you stated already the f.d.a. issued their guidance and to review issued the guidance in 2015 for a 12 month or for a period now every issue the guidance for 3 must appropriate so we need to honestly think about the role that stigma discrimination and criminalization has played for l.t. teach you communities especially black and brown elizabethan unities who really populate a lot of the southern states southern states who have not expanded medicaid i would at the government is to have an honest conversation around its role in the harm that it's because of the teach you people like me so want to go round the role of people and health disparities other city people have lacked in health insurance coverage we have asthma contrary to popular belief many of us live in poverty and many of us experience homelessness of specially young people so cold it inherently impacts them so again the. government needs
9:54 pm
a saint how can actually invest in the lives of marginalized communities and system impact communities and eligible teach you the people of color are no different and this is beyond the united states right even though the f.d.a. covers the united states the u.s. food and drug administration this is a global crisis this is a global pandemic and l g t 2 communities across the world have always taught attention to the harm that governments have and they need to do a much better job to save our lives about their lives certainly most do it's interesting because the algebra 2 q. community much like the african-american community has heightened vulnerability factors that make over 1000 a lot more dangerous and life threatening to their communities both here in the states and around the world what precautions can members of. the community take to protect themselves during this pandemic but you would recommend. until someone is saying is that eligible to you people can do of course is you know make sure that we are staying home and staying safe if we're able to do so right so of course you
9:55 pm
know i want to be honest around what it means to socially distance there are a lot of i would say dangerously untrue statements being made around black america and around you folks and young people where there is a lot of shame and blame being placed on these particular communities why aren't these cuz it's easy to blame us because we've always been blamed for causing most havoc and harm in this entire country despite this country causing havoc and harming our lives right so you know if it is saved and it's possible to do so people should stay safe but the truth is many of us including many black and brown square transferrable are essential workers so we have to have more interaction many of us in gauging gig economies which means that we are drivers religious robbers were m. a lot amazon delivery drivers and so i think we're honest i think we have to have an again an honest conversation with the role that only the local state and federal governments are having the people we also have to have our most honest conversation around the onus that is placed. on particular people when the root issues are
9:56 pm
institutions that have not really preparing for a pandemic and poor it is that we're not put in place would have mitigated a lot of the harm that has caused to a lot of the marginalized communities again we've seen that and now most of the communities will see you know black americans are between 13 and 30 percent in some states as like the population when the harm for some of these places in louisiana and detroit among others are 6 to 60 to 70 percent that is not because of race that is because of race and that distinguishing factor matters here i couldn't agree with you more i got to say thank you so much for coming on the bay and educating our viewers once again preston mitchell writer adjunct professor of law at georgetown law center pleasure sir thank you thank you such a pleasure. throughout history we have often looked to the night sky to find the inspiration dreams and even hope that we all need well this week if you look to the might sky you could find all those things and
