3:01 am
it's a move no one seen in decades on monday oil prices plunged into the negatives prompting president trump to make this announcement we're looking to put as much as 75000000000 barrels into the reserves themselves that would top it out it would be 1st time in a long time it's been good for the rate brace. now adding that much oil is a major task but where do you store it meantime oil prices continue their downward spiral today for more on all of this let's bring in our friends actually been following the story and this is the 1st time in history right that that oil has dropped below 0 right now and you know this is really a domino effect all from the coronavirus now people have these stay at home order so people are they're driving less no one. flying anywhere so you have all this
3:02 am
extra oil not being used and there's only so much oil the world can store and we're already bumping up against the limits of storage capacity and that's why we're continuing to see the price to continue to sink now as for storing that much oil the department of energy is currently trying to lease some $77000000.00 barrels of available space in the strategic petroleum reserve created after the 19 $173.00 oil embargo now cheap oil leads to cheaper prices at the pump which is a big win for customers but data shows gas is down 50 percent right now compared to this time last year but again the demand is at an all time low as one oil industry analyst explains this is a no win situation you will. is going through. less and. less economic activity in jobs.
3:03 am
i know analysts say that the direct impact is going to be purely in terms of the job loss that they forecast with companies either going through their bankruptcies because they can't sustain these low prices or because they are going to have to cut down production because they won't have be able to sell the oil at that low price and fair a lot of these oil producers can't shut these wells down fast enough opec in the g 20 production their cuts are happening but in may so now you have saudi arabia and opec talking about moving that date up now they are and actually another big oil producer here russia actually they saw the same effects too with the ruble dropping in value overnight but russian president vladimir putin his office says that this is the should not be looked at from an apocalyptic angle he says now putin says that there is no plan as of this moment to set up another call with president trump to look over the oil market situation but it could be arranged quickly one analyst points out to fix the situation. in the biggest producers russia and saudi arabia
3:04 am
they would reduce the amount of oil that they're offering to clients across the world so again some analysts project this won't get cleared up for another 6 months milla but some actually project us will go all the way into 2021 meantime president donald trump just or the energy secretary and treasury secretary to come up with a plan to get funding to the u.s. oil and gas industry as crude oil continues to sink and price manilla when is all of this going to end fair and front that thank you for filing that report. there is no doubt covered 19 has impacted just about every industry including the transportation sector here in this country with fewer cars on the roads you would think now would be an excellent time for those badly needed road repairs right well that's not really the case are to correspondent natasha sweet takes a closer look at how this industry depends on so many drivers mainly on the driver's wallets what's traffic in the 2nd largest city seems like
3:05 am
a good thing expressly for commuters but according to industry leaders within the transportation industry they say that this demick have halted projects monday and maybe people wanting to use public transportation and a whole lot less stay at home orders keep the majority of americans off the roads some of the busiest highways are barely recognizable and while this may be saving consumers at the pump transportation officials say this could have a long term detrimental impact on infrastructure according to the american public transportation association the most utilized transit systems are carrying 70 percent fewer riders than usual the remaining writers are mostly essential workers which include janitors grocery clerks and nurses these 30 percent account for roughly $2800000.00 people less writers means a big slash in profits the transportation industry is expected to be hit hard with a lack of revenue from fares sales tax adds and parking fees as a francisco municipal transportation authority is already see. in
3:06 am
a $200000000.00 quarterly loss new york's metropolitan transportation authority is estimating a weekly revenue loss of $142000000.00 while washington d.c. metro is losing $2500000.00 each weekday and in compliance with social distancing and stay at home orders most have already cut back on operations seattle has cut $103.00 bus routes and is running fewer affairs miami has cancelled express buses and plans to outsource overnight service to oberoi and lift and despite the efforts many workers are still becoming ill in new york 2269 transportation workers have tested positive for the crown a virus 59 have reportedly died as of last week to help make up for the losses the 2 trillion dollar federal stimulus package included billions for these public transit systems however nothing was allocated for state highways or bridges and as a result many projects have been halted in washington state where the 1st case of the coronavirus originated in the us dropped $92.00 of its $100.00 active highway
3:07 am
projects vermont's $200000000.00 road construction plan for 2020 is now completely on hold in san francisco business leaders were hoping to put a one cent tax on the november ballot that could raise $100000000.00 over 40 years for transportation projects throughout the region but the pandemic interrupted the work needed from state legislators to get the measure on the ballot officials say for voters who do want to get on board for finding state highways the local roads can do so from 20222224 that may all the plans on the economy to work up a bit and just how they can get back to normal reporting in los angeles because the streets are to. be unprecedented peace deal between the united states and the taliban brought about hope that it could bring an end to the longest war in u.s. history but continued fighting a delay in talks and then the latest accusations against the united states are raising questions about the success of this agreement are his rachel wyman's is joining us from the newsroom with more details to this rachel what's going on. well
3:08 am
manila just weeks after the united states signed a historic peace deal with the taliban the group is now accusing washington of violating the terms on numerous occasions according to a document from the taliban's political office the us military violated the deal at least 50 times richer in march 9th and april 10th this includes $33.00 drone strikes in $1000.00 provinces 9 rocket attacks and 8 night raids the attacks killed at least $35.00 fighters and $65.00 civilians now the timeline of the attacks is both before and after the united nations called for a global ceasefire in response to the spread of covert 19 the un secretary general called on all parties to pull back from hostilities silence the guns stop bigger tillery and the airstrikes but that was not the case in afghanistan following a weeklong reduction in violence at the end of february which was the lead up to the signing of the peace deal reports claim taliban fighters have since carried out more than 2000 and tacks and afghan and nato forces of carried out more than
3:09 am
$400.00 in response to the claims of spokesperson for u.s. forces in the country said the united states remains committed to deal with the taliban and in accordance with the written terms of the agreement they will continue to support and defend the afghan security forces while the u.s. has held on to a clause in the deal that allowed them to continue what they deem as counterterrorism operations the taliban has claimed the attacks carried out were in rural areas not outlawed by the deal and it has a q q as the act in government of delaying a crucial prisoner swap is one of the 1st major steps to implement the peace deal the taliban agreed to release $1000.00 prisoners and the afghan government agreed to release 5000 in multiple phases the taliban called for the release of its top commanders 1st saying they were needed to identify others however the afghan government said it would release the top commanders 1st but only if they went back to prison after helping to identify members when 100. taliban prisoners were
3:10 am
released earlier this month the group argued it had no way to verify who they were or if their release was legitimate the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the threat it poses to prisoners and close quarters has increased the fear that the deal could fall through if there is a breakout in prison and a significant number of taliban fighters die now that he still has also been thrown into chaos by rivaling leaders in the afghan government attempting to claim power in addition to threatening to cut more than $1000000000.00 in financial aid as the coronavirus threatens to spread across the country secretary of state might claim the trump administration is also considering a full pullout of troops if the deal is not secured while the top u.s. general in afghanistan has admitted that the war cannot be won through military fighting the latest claims of continued bombing by the u.s. raised questions about just what washington is accomplishing as the longest war in u.s. history continues reporting in the newsroom rachel blevins archie and china's central
3:11 am
bank is now introducing its own digital currency in a pilot program that will be 1st instituted across just 4 cities now internal tests of the digital currency are being conducted in shenzhen. chandu and. it's a satellite city of beijing to improve the currencies functionality so joining us to discuss and probably explain boom bust co-host investigative journalist ben swan ok ben so explain this to us this is a digital currency it sounds a lot like crypto currency like bitcoin is it or is it different. it only sounds like it in every other way other than being a digital currency it's nothing like crypto currency it's more like facebook's libra because that's also not a crypto currency and the big differences clearly the fact that you have the people's bank of china which will be issuing this they don't even have a name for it yet they're calling it d.c. for digital currency or e.c. for electronic currency and essentially it would you know be set up as
3:12 am
a digital currency but there's no privacy there's no way of not being tracked through it in fact the chinese government would not only be able to track everything you're doing with it but would have access to your bank accounts that you're putting these funds in to be able to monitor those bank accounts at all times so it's nothing like a crypto currency in terms of privacy or protection ok yet totally not crypto and bad is the goal and what's the point here if there is no there if you can track everything better than you can with paper money is the goal of this currency to eventually replace all that cash and paper money and for china to become like completely a digital currency society. well look i think the chinese will say and they are saying that it's not going to replace all cash you know things with remain the same it would just take some cash out of the system and move it into the system i don't believe that at all i believe that absolutely the long term goal here is to replace
3:13 am
all cash 1st of all a lot of the asian countries are already nearly cashless society as they're much further ahead than we are in the west in terms of using digital payment systems and outs on their phones to pay for things with this system eventually you get to the point where yet people can't deal in cash at all and by trying to make cash as worthless as possible then you remove the kind of the black market element to it people avoiding taxation and government gets to control the currency supply to an even greater extent so i don't believe them when they say they don't want the whole system to go that way look the reality is the positive actual crypto currency is bypassing banks and peer to peer transactions but the negative side of digital currency is that government gets to own monitor and control all currency now real quickly i know the u.s. has a lot of irons in the fire especially with corona virus happening in this country and all over the world but is there any chatter that the u.s. treasury might be working on its own money i mean i heart for me to imagine the
3:14 am
u.s. government linking up don't i mean this directly and overly with facebook i do magine the u.s. government would want to do its own right. well you would think that and i would say in the past you were absolutely right but we've seen a very strange kind of quantum leap here in the last few years where a lot of federal agencies and government agencies have outsourced spying data collection you know privacy violations monitoring of citizens to big tech companies this might just be another thing that gets outsourced to a big tech company i do know this that as of last year when libor was being talked about pretty heavily and mark zuckerberg came under a lot of scrutiny over the labor association and exactly what libor is in the libor wallet remember he was in front of the senate on yes there were a couple of comments made that the federal reserve had looked at doing it but the u.s. treasury itself has never really considered it and is so far behind so far behind the rest of the world especially china that the only way to fast track it would be
3:15 am
to work with a group like facebook and again that's why i suspect that behind the scenes there are conversations going on where facebook says we're already way ahead of you let's find some way to work together and as i said it's been happening in other forms and i mean let me just throw out there that a lot of government offices here in d.c. are still operating on like windows 11 so you know let's just say our and ology is not it is not there. you know we'll leave it right care and then someone thank you so much for that update. right online scammers show no shame and duping people looking to buy goods during this campaign and i will discuss that topic with rick sanchez and then later at the sports h.q. regina hamm brains of viral tennis video that might be the best one yet. leave roger federer challenge check that out.

3:18 am
the u.s. senate has just passed a 2nd coronavirus stimulus bill this one aimed at helping small businesses and hospitals the roughly $484000000000.00 rescue package comes just one week after the initial 350 $1000000000.00 paycheck protection program ran out of money now this latest stimulus package will include $310000000000.00 for the paycheck protection program $75000000000.00 for hospitals and health care providers $60000000000.00 for the economic injury disaster loan fund 25000000000 for virus testing and about 11000000000 for states to expand their testing capabilities.
3:19 am
the internet is flooded with people probably just like you and i because of these lockdowns and stay at home order so with so many of us online there's bound to be scammers just waiting for that perfect chance which is why the federal government and agencies like the f.t.c. are warning the public of internet thieves and deceitful ads rick sanchez has been following the story and is joining us now with what we need to look out for. him and it's really remarkable the number of scams that are going on right now and the federal trade commission and the better business bureau want to reach out to as many people as they can and it makes sense right what's going on right now as never before have we had so many people on the internet so many people staying at home that essentially using those vehicles that they would never normally use so much that's why the bad guys the scammers and organized crime we're being told is
3:20 am
going after you and they're going to try and get you any way that they possibly can so here's what the f.t.c. is saying. by the way they're really a good resource and i'm going to give you information i can contact the f.t.c. and get the latest on all these scams that are going on right now because there's just really just too many to name monella so here's the general guidelines ok here's the f.t.c. has put out these general guidelines i want you to know about number one don't respond to texts e-mails or calls about checks from the government if you filed income taxes 428029000 the government already knows your information and they will be according to what the federal government is saying sending you your checks based on that you don't need to be trying to contact them and certainly you don't need to contact them through 3rd parties number 2 ignore all online offers for vaccinations
3:21 am
and at home pasts people are out there telling you they can help get you a vaccine people are out there right now telling you that they can put you on a waiting list so you could be 1st where the vaccines come out because it's going to take too long to get them it's a scam there is no vaccine the vaccine is not going to be here for who knows maybe more than a year unproven cures the f.t.c. wants people to understand that if somebody contacts you or if you see promises of cures through medications of vitamins oils potions do not send money do not give your personal information to anybody doing that and the other big one is testing. very is no one out there outside of federal agencies and those sanctioned by federal agencies to provide the tests do not fall for the you can test yourself at home scam which is what the f.t.c. is actually calling it and also be careful of any e-mails where somebody reaches
3:22 am
out to you telling they can help you get your test on and directing you where to do so yes there are hospitals and health care and agencies who are working with the government to do the test. but they are not reaching out to people by e-mail by text or by telephone so if somebody reaches out to you please note that they are a scammer number 3 hang up on all robo calls at this time scammers are using illegal robo calls to pitch everything from low priced health insurance to work at home scams and number 4 watch for e-mails claiming to be from the c.d.c. or the world health organization the w.h.o. somebody says they're with them they are not with them because they're not contacting individual persons and finally let me leave you with this there there's so much information out there and we all should probably be educated and connected so going to give you 2 websites you can go to number one the f.t.c. has put out a really. good web site that i think is valuable it's called f.t.c.
3:23 am
dot gov backslash coronavirus they literally have every answer there are about every type of scams they even have little venial video vignettes that you can click and watch to see how these scams work so you see them before they do it to you and then finally if you have been scammed if somebody got you and you gave them information and you want the government to possibly go after these people or at least file the complaint so that they know what's going on go to f.t.c. dot gov backslash complaint that's f.t.c. dot gov backslash complaining and i guess the bottom line in all of this right now more than ever internet users be aware. well but do you. know that is music being played on holocaust remembrance day now on this somber day
