greetings and sell you tasia. we start things off today with 2 of the most iconic american means of self-expression in self-defense i'm talking of course about protests and guns since the 2016 bundy family great american takeover of the malheur wildlife refuge it seems that many white conservative or libertarian minded activists just can't seem to leave their guns at home when it comes time to start a protest especially in the era of covert 19 bloomberg reported on may 14th that michigan has closed down its capital and canceled its legislative session rather than face the possibility of an armed protest and death threats against democratic governor gretchen whitmer yes the armed protesters who made headlines back in early may have for their want to be red dawn wolverine's style approach to 21st century
8:31 am
white right wing activism have right in the state of michigan's elected officials so deeply that they decided to stay at home rather than legislate thus preventing every taxpaying resident of the state of michigan a smoothly puncturing government in a time of crisis. all because they were asked to stay indoors during a pandemic seems the moderate taliban really only cares about their own rights and nobody else's meanwhile way down in the great state of texas there is another protest involving weapons taking place but in this one the protesters are unarmed and are actually calling for safety over selfishness akil alessi of the intercept reports that workers at lockheed martin's plant in fort worth texas have protested the reopening of their facilities saying they were concerned about exposing family members to the virus and that the company wasn't properly cleaning facilities remember it was these merchants of death that we have actually called the defense
8:32 am
industry that lobbied the u.s. congress to declare of these workers essential employees because can apparently nothing nothing is more essential to the safety of every u.s. citizen in a time of pandemic than being able to make an supply $2000000000.00 worth of weapons sales to india morocco in the philippines. so today my friends let's use that most powerful of weapons of all our hearts and our minds and let us start watching the hawks. on a city street you want to. see as this. great city did slaves systemic deceptions show which. killed. welcome what all the watching the entire world from the time of the major how we don't today it's
8:33 am
a wild day when you see protests once again it seems like every week there's new protests we talk about them on the show and you know on them but the find out last week that the protests that we talked about in early early may and april were so scary to the michigan legislature that they decided not to go into session last week that's pretty pretty bold and pretty brutal it is it's also one of those things where if you have someone who you know many someone walk up and they all have weapons on them they all have rifles or you know these high capacity weapons and they're just standing there literally to invoke the if that's the only reason you protest with a weapon it makes sense for them to be afraid a lot of these legislators were also getting hate mail they were getting harassed on social media they were getting threatened so there's a lot more to it than that as well and these people have families themselves they're just trying to enforce regulation to protect people i mean that's the idea behind it and to me it's like it always bothered me even when i went back to the bundy's when i saw this many years ago when they did their kind of take over there look i can be totally understanding of you're proud of your plight and your
8:34 am
protests but you don't need the gun no one no one stepping until police are coming and throwing you down on the ground and arresting you and beating you. mercilessly can't talk today. then then i can understand like hey we need some protection we need we need people out here to protect approach. but no one's done that to these protesters they showed up at the go with weapons in hand you're absolutely right they're trying to stage this red state versus blue state or it's almost a nother civil war of sorts because there is the impression that they have and they've gotten from president trump in terms of his leadership on this has been you fight back you he's basically through his tweets armed militia and it was this thing then go out and do these things and he chews them all when they do it he retreats their comments he retreats the photos of them acting crazy this is something that he sees as a way to victory in november and it doesn't help when you know the name of your approach to the reason that they're going to shut down and. there was was the name
8:35 am
of the protest was called judgment day but doesn't lead rule sound lives going to be peaceful when you use terms like. i also want to talk about there's the firm's workers who we're also seeing kind of push back against the premise industry saying hey look you called us essential boys but at least take the time to give us a safe working environment so we're not getting sick while we continue to make these bombs and i appreciate them sounding the alarm because right now i probably wouldn't consider them the most that work the most essential but 7 you know since our government does they have to do what they have to do but just like we're fighting in all types of factories and other organizations and you know the wal marts of the world and things like that they should be protected as well they have a right to that level of protection and to expect them to consistently make these weapons that we regularly use and to not have that protection. and about us it does and it's interesting because the boeing they have their problems the prime contractor for the missile sales to morocco and india as part of this big group
8:36 am
their plant in st louis already had confirmed 15 cases a crony virus 15 a general electric plant in lynn massachusetts which is a prime contractor for the surprise she helicoptered deal that we got going knows all these weapons are going to other places around the world too it's not even like oh we're making weapons to secure the home front now we're making weapons to so. around the world. helicopter still the philippines this this plant the general electric plant there workers have held multiple demonstrations including a strike as recently as april 8th and have a standard ever standing petition that simply asked general electric to quote fix appalling safety conditions at the silty and allow workers to manufacture lifesaving ventilators for the whole country rather than arms why not a crazy idea crazy admin like whoa wait we could make life saving things rather than missiles in a time of crisis where we need lifesaving supplies i mean blow my mind but none of these people showed up to the plants with guns i wonder if they'd have showed up with guns to the gun making plans of suddenly they'd be listening to the irony
8:37 am
meter. that would be really interesting to see but ultimately i don't believe in a new group b. i don't think that guns or anything like that you don't need to bring those to protest because to me it it changes how the outside world perceives your protest this would absolutely make sense if it was a protest having anything to do with gun rights just true since it is absolutely not i've nothing with amy says that you know these people are justified this is literally a protest so that they can invoke the end and fear is what they're invoking when you get a legislature shut down there by denying the rights of every taxpayer as i mentioned earlier in that state michigan to actually have a successful work in government that's not that's not what you protest that's not what biting for people's rights is about is the take away everyone else's rights just so you can shepherd your own. home schooling has always been somewhat of a lightning rod topic for some reason parents choosing to remove their kids from government
8:38 am
run institutions and provide education at home is seen as apocalyptic and a force that needs to be stopped what could those kids possibly be doing at home are religious zealots training the next generation of intolerant domestic terrorists are these kids ever going to have social skills obviously these quo. and those like them are really offensive what we know is an overwhelming majority of homeschool students are light years ahead of their traditional school peers they excel in reading writing math science foreign languages their regular pictures and national spelling bees and other competitions they're also except that the highest levels into the nation's top colleges and universities institutions like harvard university yet the elite college seems to have a bone to pick with homeschooling parents in the 3rd published article in less than a month the hard part is that most recent assault on this form of school choice is titled a warning on homeschooling and it elizabeth bartholet that a law school professor and faculty director of the child at the advocacy program at
8:39 am
harvard law spews a lot of nonsense she argues the following homeschooling is unregulated and emphasizes conservative christian values the homeschooling lobby is more powerful than the gun lobby homeschooling can lead to increases in child abuse and neglect essentially homeschooling could in the world as we know it the issue here is there are so many fault lines in her reasoning that we can't even begin to list them all and she's not the only one at harvard with these issues in a harvard has that piece published just last week another author tried to make a connection between home school students and racism because you know learning at home is a recipe for a future k.k.k. member harvard is going all out to assail homeschooling parents ask yourselves why . that is a good question we should be asking because to me i don't my person in i don't like you when you go after an entire group of people because of that you might see a few bad cases here and there you know about me is not what you should be doing
8:40 am
with home schooling i mean you know you have 1st hand knowledge of homeschooled youth i don't think it's that i mean if people are educated enough to teach their kids at home and they follow i can understand like an idea of like hey do we want to maybe regulate this a little bit make sure bones get taught correctly i can understand why attack entire group of people absolutely and i think that there are there are some issues with her lines of attack but in addition to that the comparative analysis she seems to be trying to make to traditional public schools is also problematic because if you're someone who has been educating the public school system or has worked in the public school system you know that there's several fault lines within that system in and of itself from the school to prison pipeline to lack of adequate funding to resource allocation when it comes to the amount of special education students teachers you may need to serve students english as a 2nd language overcrowded classrooms and the list goes on and on and on so there's not a you know haven of sorts for students even in the traditional public school but we're seeing more and more of these aggressive anti homeschooling articles and pieces
8:41 am
come out now because folks are very afraid that during this time of coronavirus where a lot of students are at home there are going to be some parents who decide to homeschool indefinitely or to do it you know longer beyond the extent of schools being shut down well and if they see their child excelling and they have every and they have the ability to do it i mean that's the biggest thing to me is it's like if you're going to raise questions about home schooling you make sure that the parents actually have the ability to do it not just the mental ability but also the time of day and the hours needed to really be good on school parent i mean there's a responsibility there but a parents want to take on that responsibility to home school their kids because for whatever reason they don't like the public school education system they have every right to do that but we're also talking not talking about a large group of the population that actually does this absolutely not. and we in america 4 percent of our school students are home school and i mean home schooling not what we're seeing right now during kobe 1000 so i think that there's a very there's a very important distinction to make here because homeschooling typically is
8:42 am
a parent or ringback a tutor who that parent has higher is working with to work with whoever the kids are in their household specifically this is outside of the public school system in most cases what we're seeing right now and probably 1000 is distance learning distance learning is actually a administrators school authorized issued authorized person who is literally posting curriculum online who also has b.t.o. for the students who is passing along coursework grading that coursework the parent is they are essentially said help them log on but they're not the person who's actually providing that teaching mechanism homeschooling it's the parent or carer or is that going to have hired to do it you know what do you think is like the most ludicrous attack you've heard so far on the homeschooling group because to me i mean there are some criticisms that i could make of like hey you know and i'm sure that they've figured out ways to kind of keep this cool but the biggest thing to me is like how you have social skills right being in public school being around all those kids it bourses you to deal with a lot of social situations that you're going to need later on in life and valuable learning lessons that to me would be the biggest criticism i could go for
8:43 am
homeschooling i mean beyond like ok. if you have bad parents woman you're going to get a bad student but that's the same with understanding that you had a bad teacher going to get a bad students are going to you know that kind of across each other oh so i get i come at it from both sides because i've worked in the education sector i was also home school k. to 8 and then went to a regular traditional public high school so what i can say about the social skills is that right now home schooling is very different than it's been you know historically there are different clubs different activities you can be involved in sports leagues that most home school students or just what people think of a kid sitting in a basement or something just with their parents for hours on end or whatever is in the time they were getting the light of day you know they're actively involved in a lot of sports they are actively involved in a lot of community organizations and their. doing other things as well so i think that that argument kind of falls on it's basically the most interesting one to me though was the one that involves around racism because again these these arguments are led by liberal elites so the idea is that
8:44 am
a lot of the folks who are pulling their kids out traditional public schools are doing it to fight and notion of a lot of you know more liberal teachings or understanding so they think that they are empty been jellicoe right wing folks who are now you know indoctrinating their young people into those ideologies as well as racism i'm here to tell you that as somebody who also went to public school or led a race as kids who have never been in focus i would have made a lot of good point good point to bring up all right as we go to break remember that you can also start watching ox on demand through the brand new portable t.v. ad which is available now on all devices coming up led by us to preserve the one or more members of the u.s. congress are now are asking for accountability regarding the pentagon's actions of africa but is that enough find out the state to the watching the.

with it at all seem so a lot to offer viable decide to make it right when i get out on the farm saw you don't want to take my son to their next meal so he can listen and hopefully bless her experience. 54 jets and more than 1300 military personnel are headed to air force base in alaska where is that to say come on i'll show you what's the reason for any type of enhanced u.s. military presence in this area russia. what is it suddenly about the south china sea that makes it so the did 11000000000 barrels of oil. take a look at this map who really owns what kind of says no it belongs to us india says no we claim that that belongs to us both of these countries have nuclear weapons
8:47 am
capabilities there is reason for concern so that's why we're going to drill down on this story for you today right here on the news with rick sanchez where you know as we always like to say we do believe by golly it's time to do news again. welcome back 3 since 2007 the united states africa command or more commonly known as africa has been deep in the so-called war on terror operations against al shabaab an al qaeda supposedly al qaeda linked group operating in somalia these war on terror operations that would include everything from air strikes to drone strikes and even boots on the ground special forces operations and surprisingly you don't love this according to africa statistics in all of that time only 4 yes only
8:48 am
4 somali civilians have been killed in all of those operations i yes for is apparently 2007 to today the pentagon yes they would have us believe that in 13 years of war on terror. operations just 4 civilians have been killed in somalia as a result of the daily beast reports that the difference between the number of civilian casualties declared by africa compared to those recordable organizations like amnesty international and the air wars is so vast that it has prompted members of congress to write directly to the american general in charge with somali born u.s. representative a lot omar leading the charge in this letter writing campaign but many feel that simply writing a letter is not nearly enough to reign in the afrikaans dangerous operations in the region one of those is today also so who is they on the african team of the black alliance for peace and as a coordinator for baps us out of africa network he joins us now to discuss
8:49 am
afrikaans operations in somalia and his issues with representative omar's response to the pentagon's moves in the region thank you for joining us today. thank you for having me 1st just what have ben i mean let's get this out the way 1st what do we know have been the cut the casualty rates from u.s. operations in somalia since 2007 and what has been the effect of afrikaans presence in that country in the region. africa is essentially the colonization of africa by the us in a part of the us and scramble for africa which is pretty similar to what the european power is very close. in 800 so. i guess their war is in any of the international reporting where the since 2007. there been any between 71 and in the united states was there were it's numbers and then in
8:50 am
a sea international says there have been 21 civilians killed since 2018 so and that's only what they've been able to track that there could have been many more what we've seen is african lights to painting civilians as enemy combatants so that not those numbers are way understated. we would find the. there are. affected africa on a constant is really just to do similar and more. free flow of natural resources because of africa it's a brutal war it's devastating effects on. the little church as a country like somalia. and. many are there and she's become this base that is all over the constants that we see it is imperative that there is a massive one. after compromise for the us to be.
8:51 am
we. couldn't accept that there are only before casualties since 2007 is not really how us operates right amidships have absolutely and representative omar along with adam schiff and 5 other house democrats sent a letter to africa general stephen townsend that basically demands the afrikan clarify how it investigates civilian casualty allegations and according to the daily beast reminds africa that providing clarity about the reasons for discrepancies and defining who the military considers a combatant is required by recent legislation and while this seems like a good oversight on their part many including yourself are pointing out some underlying problems with this attempt at africa accountability what are those problems. so that's a good question we still need. as an attorney to legitimize africa. and. revive it some sort of.
8:52 am
better accountability in. the u.s. africa command takes announcer asking how an answer is to be present only talking many of the congress. and we don't we don't see that as the right approach and all we think that the older gentleman to. its spirit the u.s. in africa shut out. and yet i think it will just paints africa as active benevolent organization once it's clearly not. so i think that that's what you have is we have to work towards the dismantling and the middle rather than demilitarization the african continent. and that should be the i couldn't agree more it's really interesting how we just kind of accept nowadays that like the u.s.
8:53 am
military is just going to be involved no matter what corner of the world we're am you know i mean it's kind of sad to see the bats just ok you know one of the interesting things you point out in this in a recent article that you wrote about on this issue is that al-shabaab certainly not you know been a joyous submission to the region united states and its military operations or of actually done more damage than the terrorist group how has the u.s. contributed to the issues that are affecting somalia today through africa arms actions. it's a good question. especially al-shabaab is the current you would see it was they should. they. were formed in $1007.00 and. their. presence on a somalia and throughout the consonance do any. of. us. earth. essentially joining the u.s.
8:54 am
. war occupation of somalia that. we really need in the government made it harder for them to. power and do a fine against forces like al shabaab and. a lot of the radical east radical radicalized in their. place and the interest people enjoy in their organization was driven by our just us in the region. so we really see. a biding. u.s. presence in the region and i don't think it's really needed there the attention of u.s. forces that is a. completely remove our al-shabaab and we. are working in. using al-shabaab presence. for their facilities.
8:55 am
natural resources and promoting u.s. interests in the region settled excuse that like we'll have there's a danger and if there's a threat there then you need us to be there if there's no danger and threat will then you know everyone looks wrong as well why are you still here us you know i think that's a really great point that you bring up where there and i and i want to say you know thank you very much for the good work that you're doing and getting these messages out there and really looking at this kind of the geopolitics taking place in africa from a place of peace as opposed and solidarity and trying to lift african nations up as opposed to what can we get out of it we don't see enough of that today thank you so much for joining us today to me. and he barely. a stay at home orders are being lifted in cities across america and the child administration places the woes of big business over the importance of saving lives the common 1000 threat is ever present. and the populations at the highest risk are
8:56 am
the ones often with the most need america's homeless could never shelter in place how can you stay at home when you don't have one but thankfully for many good samaritans care a lot more about them than our government a georgia based nonprofit love beyond walls has been setting up dozens of handwashing stations in areas visited most frequently by the homeless parents lester the founder and a former homeless youth launched lokes think in campaign to support people in the deepest poverty during the pandemic loping on walls has been able to scale up their operation beyond atlanta and are now in cities like birmingham boston columbus new orleans baltimore and new york. now see that bad to me does more to buy the rights individual rights of a community than people showing up on the doors on the capitol steps with guns in their hands absolutely building things for people to watch and stay credit we should've been doing that long before the virus ever got here and it's got you know a guy didn't used to be homeless we aren't seeing it from cities and state leaders
8:57 am
though somebody had to do it that's really tragic good in that i mean that's really what really hurts me a little bit is that wow so no one wants to step up on the state or legislature side to say hey let's take care of all those people instead you got to get. well good for this man very good for this man all right everybody that is our show for you today remember in this world we are about told that we are loved so i tell you all i love you i robot and i'm in the chicago keep on watching all those hawks out there and have a great day and night everybody. thanks . thanks thanks thanks. thanks guys. that's mid-town.
