thank. you many just like it. you know when this should do in. you say stay ins of course in the way it's an experience we have there. and sing about what you have to. join me every thursday on the alex salmond show and i'll be speaking to guests of the world of politics or business i'm show business i'll see that.
9:31 am
greetings and sal you take. as i've stated before sometimes it takes a life or death crisis to reveal someone's true colors especially when it comes to our political leaders take us senate leader mitch mcconnell who this week showed us just once again how little he cares about the plight of the american people on a recent conference call with house republicans discussing the you know the latest 3 trillion $1.19 relief package politico is now reporting that the corporate job will himself promise the beefed up unemployment benefits and acted earlier this spring will not be in the next bill and then mcconnell said that republicans are going to quote clean up the democrats' crazy policy that is paying people more to remain unemployed than they would earn if they went back to work in other words promising that the unemployment benefits keeping millions upon millions upon
9:32 am
millions of u.s. citizens afloat during these times of crisis will be no more by the end of july. essentially forcing you back into the low paying workforce to face the distinct possibility of death by kobe would breather you and your loved ones thank you mitch but fear not because mitch did reveal that he has some heart left in that in that in that one husky calls a body his heart is just not 3 you according to common dreams on that same phone call mcconnell continued advocating aggressively for the inclusion of corporate liability protection in the next stimulus package in order to quote shield corporations from legal responsibility for workers who contract code 19 while on the job so basically the plan is to financially starve you into it back into your low paying jobs of adventure of servitude but if you can then get sick and die from
9:33 am
being forced back to work you cannot legally hold the company you work for accountable financially or legally. for you or your family members well being welcome my friends to the real new world order of the united corporations of america and their boot licking political sycophants like senate majority leader mitch mcconnell and let's start watching the hawks. what's going on a cd. player so let's see this is this you always stay sick. crazy sick this least systemic to sepsis show which. so you'll. welcome watching the hawks arguments i robot and i'm a nice across so a measure of lots of true colors being shown this week we want to take away your unemployment sends you back into work and you have no 'd legal recourse if you get
9:34 am
sick just work work. because if you die well you know so be it. out i want to say that obviously aggravated by it but i'm not necessarily surprised that it happened the pressure ation here is that a lot of individuals who will be faced with going back to work and not having any recourse are also individuals who don't have sick days and whose offices don't provide them any type of health insurance benefits and so we're talking about your you know your restaurant owners for many of those that are closed down both bar where thinking about a lot of the a lot of the barber shops and things like that these are typically lower wage workers anyway and now they're going to be thrust into a system where there's really no way out for them no there isn't because if you cut those unemployment benefits benefits we're taking away someone's docking someone's pay like $50.00 or 75 percent you know once you take that away and that's ridiculous to me it's like in a time of crisis we should be helping the american people we should be trying to
9:35 am
set up you know on countries around the world should be doing this and many are you know i've always said $2.00 to $3000.00 a month for coverage on health care you know plus a freeze on rent and mortgage and things like that and people don't want to believe that that's possible well guess what most european countries are able to do that most other countries around the world will do that for their citizens were like the last when it comes to actually providing any financial help during this crisis for the common folks for america to have always may consider the nation to follow and this is one of those issues of many but definitely where we continue to fall behind and i say that because you're right the majority of the belle of the world has bigger doubt a way not only to work through this crisis where their citizens are getting monthly monthly stipend their citizens are getting housing assistance a lot of things are happening to be able to kind of ease the blow 19 america is basically telling its workers bigger and out we need her tales to get back to the office but you know who's not who's definitely not feeling the blow of covert money
9:36 am
apparently the billionaires a new analysis released by americans for tax paranoia sammy institute. the studies of all places titled it's called tale of 2 strikes is a billionaire again as workers feel pandemic game and they found that between march 18th and march and may 19th the number of u.s. citizens piling for unemployment increased about $38600000.00 over the same 2 months the wealth of the united states billionaires has surged $4434000000000.00 an increase of teen per cent that's a massive number i mean we even recently found out was that the kanye became a billionaire during the corona crisis and he wanted to remind you of just how many billions he had once one magazine reported incorrectly off by $3000000000.00 the most interesting part about this is that there are always people who are going to make money off a crisis and right now we're seeing that the billionaire class has taken off oh you know it doesn't matter what's happening with the crushing of the middle class the
9:37 am
way deep poverty that we're seeing across this country and the children and families that are living in it the billionaire class seems to always fit single and keep going even amidst one of the most disastrous things that need seen in recent years in this country we saw david geffen right at the start of the lockdown of the state home orders to do that wonderful little instagram shot from his big in the middle of the ocean i mean when they ask this like to have sympathy for them it's hard to it's hard to but let's and you know the next time you see like the walton family. he's been the torrijos lately which he got about a 48 percent rise in his wealth during the last 2 months they're always out there tweeting like oh we need freedom and we need to open up the economy and all this well yeah you guys are suffering like you guys you know why you want the economy i mean they're making so much money it's insane that they then would want to feed people to the to the grill you know feed people to the meat where again that is covert 19 the other interesting thing to note the corporate europe observatory is now reporting that corporations aren't just fighting to put you back to work
9:38 am
they're also now looking at being able to sue governments around the world for any lock down. orders or any covert 19 response that kept them from getting profits i was that see i found that aspect completely enraging because there are protections for the corporations and we see those being created almost on a daily basis and they're not going to go under they're not going to have any they're not going to take any real blows but for the workers themselves if you are to go back and you are to fall ill and asked again with kobe 1000 it does not matter there is nothing that you can do not only to protect yourself but also in terms of a recourse should a business open before they have before they have all the steps in place to open safely it's crazy i mean the corporations are using this kind of little known system that goes by the acronym. it's investor state dispute settlement and it's when you have basically trade agreements between different countries the corporations get this backdoor loophole the observatory ports the quote in a written alerts and webinars law firms are pointing their multinational clients to
9:39 am
investment agreements vast protections for foreign investors as a tool to seek relief and or compensation for any losses resulting from these state measures this is absolutely disgusting and i hope that we don't see corporations suing because governments were trying to keep their population safe. all right everybody after seeing their season and playoffs cut short things to cope with 19 many and be a fans about to turn the n.b.a. 2 k video game you tubers like click productions to keep them virtually entertained but that doesn't mean that there isn't any n.b.a. news worth covering in fact probably pegs to the virus rooting the distraction of the playoffs in the finals journalists have been able to uncover this recent gem regarding n.b.a. and or n.b.a. owner tom gotos whose portfolio not only includes the detroit pistons but also apparently makes significant money get this off the prison industrial complex
9:40 am
joining us now with the stories are 2 america sports producer regina thank you as always. there are bad news every time i come we're like well you know i was going wrong in the sports world today because i feel bad talking about this because it's not like michigan and detroit hasn't had enough problems in recent years let's add to it. detroit prisons or in some doors is a billionaire who owns a sports team so you know normally nothing else really matters were girls gets his money from a company called was it secure technologies many of these and many of those incarcerated you know security of soldiers provides a phone service to something like 3400 person get wrecked about 1200000 inmates have access to this so gore is the guy you know he's the best he is worth about $5700000000.00 and he's part of that class you talk about the don't have to worry about getting thick because all tests all the time so he makes his money through platinum equity there's a 40 company portfolio and securest technology is this under that umbrella and it's
9:41 am
actually one of the biggest money makers for him so what happens is in prisons prisoners do make a wage it is not a livable wage by any stretch of the imagination and so when they make a phone call using curious technologies they are charging exorbitant fee offered some of the $20000000.00 sorry see me $20.00 or 1015 minute phone call they're not making that kind of money in prison you know so that other you get his money he's been touted as wonderful guy by bloomberg but you know we take that with a grain of salt but he's been touted as helping the city of detroit recover he's a pioneer for calling capper nick of all people but the hope obviously is he's trying to promote i'm this good guy image gave money off of african-americans hispanics in prison. which is the one of the things that happen it is fighting against so how can you be in favor of someone like this who makes money off of the suffering and sometimes false imprisonment of african-americans hispanics and then you know say oh i totally support this guy i'm behind his reasoning it's it's illogical it is pretty logical absolutely i like that you point those things out because it shows that you know there are 2 sides of the coin that is of course and
9:42 am
if this point i don't think that he. he who can stand by calling kaepernick or anyone who is fighting against criminal justice reform when he's someone who's profiting off of it so that in he is also profiting beyond the jail system in the prison system in terms of the phone calls he has been to his company has been awarded nearly 800000000 in contracts from customs and border patrol so he's actually making money hand over fist because of trump's push to get people out of this country exactly and that's the shocking part is that this is a sports owner we like i mean obvious for its owners they have make their money from other places just in the sports teams we all know that it's a common factor but when you look and you pull away that veil and you pull away that shield as the time with the sports now allows us to do you're seeing these guys are in is great you know you have mark you know as dallas mavericks he is a rare example i'm sure he has some not great things in his past as well but he's a great example of how to be a bennett a champion for not only his team but also his work on those people paying his
9:43 am
workers during this furlough during the time there is no sports is a great thing i don't think morris is doing that start and now if he was he's going with money of that he it was a blood money is not blood money but it is you're getting that money off the backs of people who are suffering and as a sports owner you want to maybe take a step back and look a lot of people on my team as an n.b.a. owner are black i am now getting money not only from prisons where there is a large afternoon population i'm also getting from customs and border patrol which has been 2 questionable lately for what they do with illegal immigrants and it's almost time set back if you're a shareholder in a sports team do you want to look and i want to be associated with this regatta layers to me i was once a money because we're looking at what's happening in the prisons there are a lot of people dying and being mistreated every day and we know that those who have been taken into custody at customs and border patrol also are dying we have those numbers so i would definitely say that do you think the government organizations team owner should be able to have this type of relationship with the government organizations where they are profiting significantly off of our taxpayer
9:44 am
dollars and government institutions. that's a good question too because they're also the ones who go to the government say please build a store stadiums all the l.a. lakers actually get some that protection money from the government to get it back they get there but they still got it bad part of the problem and you're seeing sports organizations like this is a tough time for everybody we understand we're all suffering financially but to be able to be like you know i mean over the government for help here not you and then you have owners who preach i am a champion of my people you know i'm champions of our fans of our players some of who are hispanic african-american you know non white players and you get money from government that pretty much don't align with what you're preaching is hypocrisy and they should be taken to task for it well i mean hopefully he does overly hopefully he sees the error and you know when you see the news reports like this i mean this was pretty you know it was about yahoo and other major publications and news like hopefully he will see that in the pushback against that from the community if that happens and the n.f.l. players coalition oh yes not forget about that too yeah i did forget about the
quote
9:45 am
n.f.l. players but we have to get absorbed on a time will get in the n.f.l. next we know that they're bad news for next oh i know i know n.f.l. is not doing good either but. i want to thank you so much for g.m. always a pleasure having you on thank you so much thank you right as we go to break remember that you can also start watching the hawks on demand or the brand new portable t.v. which is available now on all platforms and coming up we are joined by author d. walk ins to discuss his latest piece on highlighting the life and times of a very interesting to say the least corrupt in baltimore you do not want to miss this conversation stay tuned to watch the hawks.

we always like to say we do believe by golly it's time to do news or. baltimore maryland is known for its diversity both n.f.l. team and produces one of the best t.v. series a modern history the wire baltimore is also home to america's world renowned johns hopkins hospital but despite having many great traits the city has been plagued by scandal drugs and violence the police relationship with the black community is fractured at best gun violence has overtaken much of the city and the black and
9:49 am
blue divide couldn't be greater common ground or shared experience aren't typically things that come to mind when you think of black kids growing up in the hood and the white kids who grew up to believe them but dig deeper in a much anticipated new article 2 men from baltimore's rough and tumble east side one a young black man and the other a white cop crossed paths in an interesting way in his latest piece only a mile and a big world separated us author of the walk ins outlines his baltimore experience juxtaposed with that of describes baltimore police officer danny. joining us now is author and editor at large salon dot com dean watkins welcome. why don't we thank you for having me thank you always a pleasure to. so your article delves into some of the gritty it's parts of your life and upbringing in baltimore it paints a picture of life at the center of the world drugs what that environment was like for you and how you view how you were viewed by the outside world and you just
9:50 am
suppose this with her soul who grew up not too far away but had what you described as a system that traditionally rewards mediocre whiteness yet he had a tragic downfall where you excelled what do you attribute this to. the system you know everything that had it against me he kind of the head on for him so you know so my son my son a fair street one side of history could argue over you can go to jail for. up in the street and on his side. if he was going to jail or if you got out if you got a lot that a lot of times i'm going to go to prison and let's see a family discipline you where you have a clean record and one that you can be a lot guys like me. you know it's interesting because because i think just so people understand is what kind of a guy was her soul was a colleague what was he charged with what was he convicted of like who was this guy . so as crazy because talking to his family and talking to his friends i
9:51 am
think that he was a regular police officer type of police officer who wouldn't knock a couple of people off and before people want to streets maybe studio $50.00 makes them $100.00 of us but it wasn't something like that with these guys probably going to trace task force and then he started working out a way to teach is that you are. actually still real money he will knock you over that he did it 50 the type of guy who was looking 410-152-0000 i was so easy like a he's showing your record to your need to be a part of a criminal enterprise they hid behind a bad to use the bass to go out and commit crimes and the crazy thing of up at the backlash. aftermath of all this is a lot of people said oh this you bet it was bad it was and as i always say if it's a few bad apples you know where all these great cops out here scene with their
9:52 am
friends are doing and i decided he needed to defend step and you know there's like i decided to go through great pains a scribe or a sore for baltimore police officer turned convicted felon you humanized him in many ways in the are you know in the piece you also outlined the abuses police regular pose they're threatening behavior as you mentioned they are lawful searches at one point you mention a cop telling you that you were nothing nothing how did the other system that was personal how did this experience has shaped the lens with which you saw and in choosing to write this article what you saw or. you know screams even to you x. that because i could not write this article early in my career oh god now though i've been around enough i had a lot of conversations with officers billions for thai officers i got a chance to really look at my old life evolved journey through that lens of a guy you know i just went down i go you know i'm out and stuff so looking back at it i think that. early in my career what i wrote about
9:53 am
a police officer is i didn't even think about the human side because they were human were because of how to introduce me and are friends now that i'm older and i have more experience as i have the room has. to say to the way things happen to meet their force needs to make bad decisions and do bad things it's kind of similar to the same things that happen today force them to make bad decisions or do bad things it's like i've gotten a luxury of being a scholar of these different books and traveling to all these different places and studied different things maybe if and i'm not i'm that senate he gets a pass of what he did because i still feel like it's a terrible person but maybe academic. if you want to be able to have some of the experiences that i had then maybe the way he put their black the way he looks at black people would be different the way to look at is joe i mean himself in the context of what he's actually here to do will be different and you probably want to
9:54 am
be in general no. andy i've read this piece now probably 3 times and i think why reveal a new it's amazing quite revealing and you didn't you weren't speaking for like that out of out of corners you dug deep speaking about your own experience and participation in the drug game what was your motivation for including that part. because i think as a narrator it gives it gives me more credibility to being to talk about you know i'm not perfect i'm not a perfect person i can't sit on my perch you know because i sit back and i work with these young people and i do just really good work i can't sit back and act like it i've never done the wrong things so people need to know what i overcame well he's made mistakes and he realized the error in his ways and he works really hard to change that and. the difference between being a person is that he still he's nice he's a gentleman right now still writing letters to the local newspaper the baltimore
9:55 am
sun some of them that he's innocent even though the mountains and mountains of evidence a lot of which are sort of are he's guilty and that's just a difference of people need to know out what's coming from and. so he can really understand why i'm qualified to make these are you know we got a little bit of time what poor person was arrested the entire family based on a young you tube video he used his power to attack the black community unlike most cops he actually didn't get away with it as we mentioned he was convicted and sent to prison for schemes to rob people and cut drug deals and other crimes was this a level for police accountability was there any accountability that came away from from his arrest and incarceration. absolutely at the $43.00. bottom of the consent decree so this is like the big huge federal police reform that you put into cities to be to change to bring about change and herschel actually join you kind of the
9:56 am
country's task force where he learned how to steal money and over time in a more effective while we were on the consent decree so they absolutely positively marked nothing. while. he did this in reform. one glad that you pointed that out because a lot of people assume that once somebody gets arrested if you can get to that point where there is a conviction when there are you know crooked cops out there that that is something we should hang our hats on because that is a move towards accountability i like that you pointed out that there are still some significant issues associated with that as well. what do you feel is that they're going to be moving forward to where does all this go forward. as it as it stands right now and there's no way for it to go forward because the same system is continuing to eat it self we have the same leadership speak and used the same way with the still saying things like oh the outcomes are mostly good there's a few bad apples and no you know because the great comedian chris rock if you were
9:57 am
going to the airport and he said most of the pilots a good descent of bad apples that can't really when. you know some jobs you can't have bad apples and people are really and then i would approach in the truth and nothing can harm children the truth is the department is the best and needs to be. the change and until you dig up the roots of those problems you're going to continue to see the same thing that is that is not our i've already got breath already principal reason i was from is out and already that's not just baltimore that cities across the united states of america thank you so much for the good work you do d. it's very important people learn these things always a pleasure sir. thank you you guys have a blasphemer. all right everybody that is our show for you today remember one in this world we're not told that we love them up so i tell you all i love you i roll them too and i'm i'm a chicago keep on watching those hawks never great day and night everybody.

10:00 am
well coming up here is from around the world live from central london this is our to u.k. . the u.k. government is set to outline quarantine plans by international travelers for aviation experts warn it could destroy the industry. more than $100.00 people are feared dead after a pakistani ambassador jet crashes into a residential area in karachi as it was going to turn around at the seduced international airport. and the scientific group revising the u.k. government publishes its evidence for the reopening of schools in chile but only feels uncertainty among teachers and parents i'll be talking to
10:01 am
a top teaching boss. thank. god welcome to our 2 u.k. the government's preparing to unveil its policy on quarantining international travel is as they are right remains steady across the country between north point 701 k. shut epis dash to house the latest on this other shut it so what are these new quarantine proposals so essentially it's another step in the right direction to stop the spread of the virus and try and keep that number low so people travelling from abroad into the united kingdom will have to south korean team for up to 14 days now the home secretary pretty patel will be setting all of this back in the daily press briefing that is hosted by the government but essentially for now anyone coming to the u.k. from a port abroad could face a 1000 pounds fine if they fail to self isolate for 2 weeks as soon as people arrive in britain be it by plane ferry or train the have to fill out
10:02 am
a form with all of their contact details including an address of where they will self isolate otherwise accommodation will be arranged by the government under the plans health officials will also be able to carry out spot checks to see whether people are complying with the government's policy. c. but they will accept certain groups from the measures though including medical officials and virtual as well as those living in common travel areas like ireland and the channel islands now the new rules are not expected to come into force until next month but the government will look to review the policy every 3 weeks now by and large the plans are pretty much welcomed but for some the quarantine is absolutely bonkers and implementable because anyone traveling to the united kingdom all potentially have to use public transport to reach their ultimate destination and so therefore it essentially defeats the point entirely now this was an issue that was raised in the home affairs committee where the chief executive of the airport operator association also wanted to see evidence of the usefulness of
10:03 am
exempting people in the 1st place of course and then i was not going to fly a flight if there were 2 whole who are doing so will. you know and that's why we're concerned about the way that this will operate you may simply. shut. already you know. now unsurprisingly there's also been criticisms about timing and the shutter health secretary john ashworth said in some ways it seems like this policy has been implemented slightly too late especially as other countries have long been introducing a quarantine measures or from the borders really at the beginning of the lockdowns and for some there is an easing about policy at this point in time but for the united kingdom it is at the very beginning of it now the director of health protection at public health england has defended the government saying that all policy is advised by the x. parents. we have been providing advice into government and into sage
10:04 am
about the quart. pot happens when the ports may open again and indeed our chief exec is been in touch with the chief exec of you through about a trial of testing of a temperature test checking so quarantine for 14 days is an international standard at the moment many countries are doing it and government has taken advice from a range of advisors on this it isn't new by the way the idea of isolation for 14 days that was what we operate is joining the 1st phase when anybody was on well they were to stop isolation so we're familiar with if we're familiar with the process now these plans are aimed at trying to make sure that there isn't a 2nd wave or 2nd peak of this virus but it does come as it has been out for a 2nd week running they are right there are numbers now between 0.7 and one and
10:05 am
that as a reminder the right is the average number of people effective person will pass the disease on to at the height of the pandemic that our number was at 3 which means it's exceptionally high though since the lock down it dramatically reduced suggesting the restriction measures are effective even if the number is above one 3rd of the infection rate will increase and could lead to a 2nd peak so the government is absolutely adamant that it absolutely wants to ensure it's below one stays below one because if it is the outbreak will flatten out over time so the government says with the prevalence of the virus forming as travel quarantine will be very effective and will prevent hopefully the virus from being imported it is hoped to be just a short term measure but of course many people across the united kingdom it will be causing doubts for their plans potential plans for any summer holidays so it will try to thank you very much thank you. a pakistan international airlines jet has
10:06 am
crashed just before landing at caracas main airport there are reports of people on the ground being killed while up to 30 have been rescued from the crash site a spokesperson for the airline confirmed there were 170 people on board a stone affairs expert jahvid ron a spy to r.t. from the nation's capital it was 4 to a bit of him from the airport where this particular plane crashed or recently it was a very thickly populated area and at least as with 5 houses of this this crash happened upon which this crash happened and according to the little suppose 5 people from these deputies and obviously those are the residents of that if they have been taken out as alive they are injured. obviously there are the chances of more people who might have died the safety record has not been as good as it should have been but not as bad as that some people tried to portray these kind of incident the
10:07 am
record of the bucks an international airline particularly has more has not been good it is a primarily because of the fact that the airline has been in financial crisis since loan being steered on the government has not been able to manage it but in this particular it is i was told that the spleen was not all totally it appears to be a sort of technical fault. the scientific group advising the u.k. government on the coronavirus pandemic has published its evidence justifying the reopening of schools in england on from june the 1st the announcement of the modeling comes amid pressure from unions and councils to publish the signs proving it was safe for students to return or sage it said the advice given to the government modeled a range of scenarios including pupils attending classes on alternative weeks but the advice only highlighted the uncertainties surrounding the infection rates of
10:08 am
children compared to adults as well as concerns around social distancing when it comes as a survey of councils in england found only a 5th of those who responded said they would reopen for some groups in june 15 local authorities located mostly in northern england said schools under their jurisdiction would remain shut citing safety concerns a further 11 council said the issue was still under consideration while more than half said they were letting individual schools decide on whether they were in a position to reopen more widely meanwhile an alternative group to sage led by former chief scientific adviser david king says the reopening should be delayed depending on when the school reopened laying by 2 weeks observation been fiction elaine to september brings down the infection probability to much lower than them. well for on this i'm not joined by the general secretary of the association of score and cliff latest jeff barton jeff thank you for joining us is often

a that's the sage advice actually reassure teachers and parents to think. well i think lots of teachers and parents will be starting to pour over us and if they were expecting that what science would do is give a single definitive clear reassuring answer i don't think it necessarily does that i think what it does do is to push into the public domain the fact that this is about managing risks and it maps out some of those risks and it maps out some of those solutions so i suspect we'll find some people who. and others say well maybe having me brief other scientists lessard generally cautiously i'm reassured by you can save the real tentativeness in the way i respond indeed i mean although there is an uncertainty around the infection thinking they are right i mean countless studies have indicated that transmission is actually lower the on the 10 something . i think if you look at this in terms of the risks to children that's actually one of the laura shoring parts for sending your child to be with other children is to

be a relatively straightforward decision it's of course the fact that schools aren't just full of children you've got the adults in there as well and so what teachers and other stuff we're going to be reassured about is what is the risk to them now the scientific briefing which i had to put into the public domain the fact that there isn't any more risk of going to work in a school than there is in any other key work a profession let's work in a supermarket and so on nevertheless people will need the reassurance about what does this mean in the wider community and that's one of the things i think this age publication makes us think about it isn't just children being in school it's them travelling to school and that's probably why the emphasis is on the very youngest children who can be dropped off and collected rather than walking through high streets going to supermarkets newsagents getting on buses i think is that jeff until there's a vaccine there's always going to be a risk isn't that and we've got to balance education with house and also i think the wider economy as well. exactly and so there's a whole range of different things which need to be considered here including the
10:11 am
very big educational damage which will be being done to done to some young people who are not in an environment where they can work where they can get along with the go books conversation and so on and so forth so all of that needs juggling and i think well what i came out of today thinking is the direction of travel we would cautiously support i represent 19 and a half 1000 leaders they used to managing risks maybe not risks like this but they used to that process and this allows us to continue to proceed very cautiously looking at which children at what point might come in and what the conditions in school will then be like in the meantime making on the other side the independent science advisor suggest a 2 week delay or even a september or a start whatever the be acceptable to think. well i'm not a scientist in the sense of independence a huge group does make things more difficult because what they're saying is the same as we've seen in wales the same as we're seeing as you said from some local councils and i think ultimately this will need to be a public health decision in specific places because what we don't know is that they
10:12 am
are right in london isn't the same as the already in manchester and i think the public against the need reassurance that it's not just westminster calling the shots here the local people looking to the local scientists are getting the right advice and gardens and finally jeff what measures would you like to see in place before schools reopened. well what we were looking for is 1st of all reassurance against the the tests that the government has said one of the big areas for us was published a scientific god so we can start to build what the public confidence people will now do is to stop work with our members as to what bringing those youngest children into school looks like what the conditions are for them there and then we'll get a measure of public support where the parents themselves feel confident enough to proceed with i think it's a long way to go although strums they but there is now a long way to go until the school is a mentor to reopen and step up and thank you very much indeed for joining us thank you thanks. well let's look at how the virus is affecting the u.k.'s home nation starting with the latest figures the national health service in england has

reported 121 hospital deaths in the past 24 hours while the scottish 1st minister has announced a further 24 fatal it is across all settings wales has reported 7 deaths in northern ireland 3 with scotland's 1st minister has asked scots to exercise good judgment when observing social distancing as the country gears up to ease its lock down from thursday. where despite signs of loosening restrictions in england scotland and northern ireland the 1st minister of wales is taking a cautious approach while great food said no changes to lock down rules are set to be made just yet but he hopes he'll have something to say on that next week and in northern ireland more the 9 out of 10 teachers say they are worried about going back to school according to a poll for the ulster teachers union now let's turn to the global figures as they currently stand according to world wide data collated by johns hopkins university global cases have now passed 5100000 more than 333000 lives have been lost and the

10:17 am
a very good relationship with russia but russia didn't adhere to the treaty so our job they are here we will pull out but there's a very good judge will make a new agreement or do something to put that agreement back together when the the consul can support the americans the current administration and conceptually fundamentally have an aversion to any kind of control over american military activity especially when that control is exercised on or over u.s. territory with other countries follow the americans i doubt it europeans seem to me to understand that the agreement has added value as an instrument of trust and instrument of predictability transparency and that is how we see it while we see this time and time again from the top administration the president has never been shy in tearing up longstanding international treaties whether that's the paris climate agreement or the iran nuclear deal and very often the pretext given is that
10:18 am
conditions have been violated by someone other than the u.s. of course and this latest story got america is indeed with joran from the open skies treaty very neatly fit not worrying captain as most goes on attention to. unfortunately if it's the policy of the us administration i'm undermining old agreements in the sphere of arms control but it's not just russia's concern by this of course the open skies treaty is a major crucial point to state of control and it ensures transparency trust and peace between staci 5 countries as that wanted out to conduct a nod to the qantas its flight to each of these territories so that the other case they can treat this is a massive trail they see this as still a hugely beneficial course that must be kept alive at all costs it's probably on supply think that this decision was met by the international community the great

deal of concern and of course fat that it could well deal and major blow to global security we reiterate our concern regarding the erosion of the us russia arms control regime i think we can stress enough that this arms control regime has provided security benefits for the entire its entire international community by constraining strategic arms competition ending such agreements without anything to replace them could result in destabilizing activities such as a dangerous new arms race leading to possible miscalculation. a very much regret the announcement by the us government that it intends to withdraw from the open skies treaty the treaties an important part of the european arms control architecture by withdrawing the united states would significantly reduce the scope of the open skies treaty and weaken the whole regime the us government's decision will take effect after 6 months during this time we will work intensively with their relate mind and partners to make the us government withing their decision the
10:20 am
us withdrawal from the open skies treaty comes despite the feelings of the international community and china deeply regrets that this step by the united states together with recent action is to withdraw from a series of treaties is a return to cold war thinking a policy of unilateral action so clearly many see this as another step by washington towards instability and in not a move by donald trump to shed to restrictions on the u.s. let's not forget of course that last year donald trump withdrew the u.s. from a soviet era misao agreement that's the iron actually to it and just as we're seeing now that too he pointed the finger at russia and that triggered there's also a new arms race that of course the out the shocking with the trumpet ministration from the iran new gelati of. iran of course and all that despite widespread fears
10:21 am
that it could cause and not the war in the middle east perhaps when it didn't but shortly afterwards they started straggling iraq with sanctions so this is a clear policy from the donald trump government and one that is must be politically geared towards peace and stability while stateside somehow voiced support for the decision saying america doesn't need the open skies to be can get the same image at a lower cost satellite rather than act but that isn't actually widespread consensus . if this in ministration moves forward with a precipitous unilateral withdrawal from the treaty the united states will be less safe and secure open skies remains our only ability to get direct access to russian airfields in airspace and every experienced operational commander knows all too well the satellite simply can't do it all so that is a lot of criticism from all sides swelling around this new announcement there are also certain ministers of barrios potentially happening there is a push by congress at the moment they might even need to sign off on it so will the

following see how that plays out regardless this latest move from washington really and not the example of donald trump seemingly undermining global stability and opening up a new uncertain chopped and both os control and holes in u.s. for. leaked u.k. government report has revealed emergency responders are concerned about the prospect of a no deal brett said one of the report's contributors claims it's not the right time to be dealing with the potential in you crash out early in an unprecedented national emergency there will have health economic social and political impacts for years to come the responder community is exhausted floods novacek terrorism threats of preparations except for the last thing we need is a no deal bragg said if we are to do recovery properly we do not have the space to start scaling up or brecht's

a response to this needs to be fed into hate government thinking no this isn't pro or anti breck's it is about being sensible for the recovery process and the health and well being of our responders. the reports compiled by the c. 19 foresight group revealed the coronavirus response by local resilience forums or those a regional groupings of local emergency responders such as policeman and firefighters were 42 different groups on task with planning the response to national emergencies which range from disease to extreme flooding more than $200.00 local emergency responders were consulted the report concludes that failing to extend their breaks its transition period would only compound the covert 19 crisis or exit trade talks of going ahead in spite of the pandemic and the transition period is set to expire in december the government has repeatedly ruled out an extension despite warnings from europe that a free trade deal may be impossible to negotiate before the deadline the ministry
