i've been the good news is. not emotional when i meet with. compass humans few dollars come to me nobody goes from didn't you know just to see you just pull you through and call. someone come to me. you see him in the middle you come in this. thing they. come to you and this to you. so do you. think is the. i. love. america rages for another night with more looting also an police protest of

violence in the wake of the death of george boyd was speak to someone who used to work with both him and with the officer accused of his murder. relationship short i do not believe that there was any previous malice between these 2. curfews have been imposed in almost 30 u.s. cities but that didn't stop rioters wreaking destruction with more businesses and shops vandalized. on schools the new york city's matter resigned off that he defends police officers who drove that s.u.v.s into a crowd of demonstrators. and one welcome your washing off the international with me thank you erin. now another
4:02 pm
night of violence on cities set ablaze amid protests sparked by the death of george floyd at the hands of police 1700 people have been arrested across the u.s. in minneapolis where floyd died police have been struggling to maintain the curfew with offices resorting to ever more heavy handed methods. you know we got to love that we got to. you need to stand up we need to fight for our lives and there's no peace until there's just.
4:03 pm
a makeshift memorial has been set up at the place where george floyd died mourners come here to pay their respects leaving flowers and messages the song has also become a place of peaceful protest against police brutality contrast thing with the anger that has boiled over in other parts of the city octavius williams who says he works in a nightclub in minneapolis where both george floyd and the police officer charged of his death worked as well shared his reaction with us to what's happened. i mean both of them pretty we'll work with floyd is where we all knew him. i was there were going to close the day his 1st day coming in back in 2000 roughly 15 something like that when he 1st came in he was there i was there security i wasn't aware it was some point it was hiring but the moment i saw. i mean like i needed that guy
4:04 pm
from the rose there were genuine. but i mean this guy would give you the shirt off in fact it was such a cause. for being such a big guy he was a true until charlie rose so derek so even also you also worked with him in a nightclub tell us more about handle. yes let's be clear about this that people together it's clear because it's not like you working shoulder to shoulder 6 because you sit in this park cars are side building at the time you don't even know who's in the squad cars they show up they stay outside they don't come indeed on the service ok. just want to. come out so we don't really do that but we are employed by the same people ok so their children's relationship with floyd was very short because there was a click of the road that was. shot in. the world they also
4:05 pm
have it clear that i deem do you think they should even recognize floyd's during their arrest. it's possible that maybe. they did die in that moment because you know if they can my sister recognizes you and my business is security that usually gives you some type of insight but with that officer some type of time in level with that officer that usually helps you out in situations so you got called over. and you respect meeting you newly off secret you work with the measures that can help you get out of that ticket so no no officer will usually help you now are you i was going to say i don't i do not believe that there was any previous messages between these 2 and i would like to clear that up but i do not believe that so knowing both of these men how did you feel what was your reaction when you 1st saw the video. i was horrified.
4:06 pm
i mean when war. was in me at every level. it wounds was all. i knew who was this she really just didn't understood what he was doing this i never knew he was the people of course of the life. so i was actually shocked and. then i was relieved this is all back to you know. a curfew south been imposed in 28 cities across the us meaning people are prohibited from being outside after 8 pm but that didn't stop the rioters reportedly 75 cities or protests spill into the streets national guards have been called in at least 10 states meanwhile in new york city alone 30 officers have been injured in clashes with 350 people arrested.
4:07 pm
ok. how to. live here thank you was how. was. lip licking. the touch.
4:08 pm
for a long as journalist will what been reports from new york about what's been happening that on the now the u.s. cities over night. protests began around 3 pm the beginning where we saw a series of speeches by the local activists regarding the situation with the police violence and racism in the united states as the day progressed things started to get recently more and more violent we saw various crime issues between police and demonstrators and at the end of all of that go to class has made a statement jean new york has 2 and violent protests if you went out peacefully to make a point about the need for change you have been heard and change is coming in the city i have no doubt about that it's time to go home so we can all move forward but
4:09 pm
those who are out there simply to create violence those who are out there to express hatred towards our police officers we won't tolerate that if you're out there to commit an act of violence you're going to get arrested the bless you know when to defend the police officers who maliciously rammed the s.u.v. reoccur into lines of protesters and he said you know these protesters should have just got out of the way but the thing about motor cars i mean the really quite a remarkable invention lay can actually move backwards as well as forward so i mean that's a fact that's perhaps maybe lost on the math and this prompted outrage and outrage response from representative alexandria custer cortez who wins on to criticize the mass saying that defending and making excuses for the n.y.p.d. running s.u.v.s into crowds was wrong violent protests also them on all around the country as they have now for days in a row despite curfews resource of
4:10 pm
a long rest breaking out yet again in countries in cities with coffee such as los angeles philadelphia. cincinnati portland oregon and louisville. kentucky protests also flared up in dallas chicago seattle salt lake city where a an individual and she called up on demonstrators and attempted to fire on them with a long bar of all things before he was tackled to the ground by demonstrators as well as cleveland's we've also seen violent scenes in las vegas where police and protesters clashed along the main strip there were several very sort of violent scenes there along what is one of one of america's most iconic capitalist telescopes there has been much made about. by the establishment in this country of the i suppose it's outside elements being what is to blame here is not the fact
4:11 pm
that the police have a large number of races murders amongst them is the fact that people are upset and it's outside elements which of course in this apparently there's a lot of hype being made about. the new sort of radical supposed radical left brain behind this i saw members of their socialist groups intervene to actually protect police officers when they became isolated from. members of the police force so this directly contradicts what is being said regardless of this donald trump the president here has just recently tweeted saying that the united states is going to designate and chief as a terrorist organization and trump is very much in favor of the national guard being deployed and an increase in the militarization of the response to these protests the national guard has been released in minneapolis to do the job that the democrats could do should have been used 2 days ago and they would not have been damaged in place had cujus would not have been taken over and ruined great job by
4:12 pm
the national government no games as we have seen pretty desperate state of affairs over here in the states and it looks as if this violence is going to continue to have to take an exit. aeration that obviously the officer in question here with the killing of of floyd was has been arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder and manslaughter however certainly one thing the protestant protesters are saying where i was yesterday was that it was a manslaughter this was clearly a murder if you need on someone's necks and 9 minutes that's that's direct that's direct murder so i doubt that we'll be seeing any subsiding of violence certainly seems that curfews if anything or actually encouraging violence to spread more so it remains to be seen what happens next. we're joined live now by ben swan the journalist on t.v. his death and you joining us on the program ben at what has been to me the gains the ante for now. well there's been
4:13 pm
a lot of pressure on the president to move against in secret for some time there are a lot of people who believe that n.t.p. does act as a terrorist organization specifically they when they show up at protests as counter protesters and attack other groups of protesters but that being said there's a lot of politics starting to play into what's happening across the country right now because it's the establishment and the the story that you guys just ran which is pretty interesting the establishment of the country is not sure what to make of these protests i think a lot of it has to do with it's it's in part a black lives matter issue it's impart a response to police violence against unarmed black men because we've seen this over and over but i also believe that are seeing this in relation to the lockdown that happened in the united states there are a lot of people who have been frustrated with with a lot of right now frustrated with the financial system they're frustrated with not having jobs not being able to make money there's a lot that's going on that's creating frustration and then to see another blatant example of another black man killed at the hands of police officers and it's not
4:14 pm
just one officer by the way there's video that shows 3 other officers who were kneeling also for some time around george floyd and the fact that there are 4 other officers in total who clearly had intervened and simply chose not to and that's something protesters are saying too in atlanta where i live the protesters were saying on friday night and saturday night that their biggest frustration is that one officer has been charged but others have not been charged and they believe those officers should also be charged with murder and i think about this week by trump against anti thought is that began to fog covers a whole host of autonomous activist groups so is it even possible to label them all as terrorists same 1000 i fell asleep. i'm not sure that it is i'm not sure that it makes sense to attempt to label this group with a terrorist group but i actually think it's a very poor precedent because what happens is even though there are a lot of conservatives in this country who would say oh that's a good thing we need to label this group as as a terrorism group but as soon as your guy is not an officer or and you get someone
4:15 pm
from the other side is that office they will then want to turn around and label any protest movement on the other side also a terrorist group so one of the problems with doing this is that are they terrorists because they have committed acts of violence or are they terrorists because they're protesting because under our constitution they have the right to protest they have the right to speak out and so there's a big concern about that coupled with the increased militarization the reporter who was just on mentioned about national guard troops but it goes beyond that members of the 82nd airborne division out of fort bragg north carolina have now been deployed to minnesota to help with the situation there as well now we're told that those soldiers will not carry weapons to minnesota but they are there to provide a supporting role but when you do begin to bring military into these these situations i think you will heighten the response of protests. how do you expect the protests to die down any time thing. i don't know to be honest with you because
4:16 pm
you know after friday night we thought that they might die down over the weekend then they have flared up again and again you know the curfews are not working they're not convincing people to stay home one of the problems again as i mentioned is that there isn't an overwhelming frustration right now with the entire system of government that we have in place where people don't feel hurt i don't think these protests are simply about george floyd or even just a black lives matter issue i think it is larger than all of that i think it's a general frustration with the system a general frustration with policing and general frustration with people feeling like they're they're not being heard and so you're seeing big coalitions of people coalescing around this particular issue which is a specific issue and an important one really to be protested but i think that there are other issues as well so i suspect we won't see at least for several days maybe even a week these these protests died out so how significant a moment is all this happening right now for america do you think i think it's
4:17 pm
incredibly significant i mean you have to remember that again we have just gone through you know several months of what's these lockdowns with with coronavirus incumbent 1000 but these issues of policing and the militarization of police in this country the issue of people feeling like there is a greater deficit between those who have the bills and don't have when that is all taking place simultaneously i think that we are looking at a moment where people expect that change will happen not just to talk about it not just the protests but they will demand that change actually take place and i think they're unwilling to settle for anything less at this time since long journalist on t.v. has thank you for joining us on our national. my pleasure. on the u.s. president's residence in washington d.c. hasn't escaped the unrest either protesters have been gathering outside for days and clashed with secret security see a secret service agents from 60 personnel have been injured white house employees
4:18 pm
were reportedly advised against coming into work but was was ok. thanks. thanks. thanks. thanks thanks the police have been around for throughout all they do is corruption is corruption on top of the reference of a corruption they cause more problems may help. thanks. about taxpayers' dollars reapplying them were money to protect this is what this is about at the end of the day thanks to the protection thanks.
4:19 pm
was. or protests are now spread beyond the u.s. border with thousands gathering in trafalgar square in central london as well as in the german capital let's get more on the european reaction we're joined by our correspondent in berlin peter all about peter good to see you how how's your responded to george floyd's death row. well there's been outrage here over the killing of george floyd the video of the black man gasping for breath as a white police officer knelt on his neck ignoring his pleas has been seen by many people here and that's been seen in the demonstrations and the demonstrators that have come out on to the streets of cities like berlin we saw demonstrations on saturday and on sunday where they marched from the courts bowed region of the city to the u.s. embassy near the brandenburg gate holding up signs like silences violence hold cops accountable and who do you call when the police. emotions running high here in
4:20 pm
the german capital as well as what what has been going on in the united states. did not do enough. and. it. on the old berlin wall in mauer park here in the german capital a mural depicting george floyd has gone up over the weekend that includes his words i can't breathe which he repeated over and over to the police officer that was kneeling on his neck at the time away from germany in denmark there's also been
4:21 pm
demonstrations in copenhagen outside of the u.s. embassy and in belgium those words i can't breathe we're seeing spray painted by a graffiti artist along the side of a brussels train there's also being thousands of people out on the streets of the british capital in london scenes outside of the house of parliament to follow the square on the u.s. embassy there as well where we understand 5 people were arrested on sunday as part of that demonstration again people coming out and saying they're outraged at the killing of george floyd and what they see as violence towards black people in the u.s. from the police there. i was i was people being snotty in the streets of america with a b. you can be tom and i think you know was what she was she sees 96 to one year and i'm from miami right now and i mean it's like techno and i'm just proud that here
4:22 pm
in england they care enough about it that you should. see. well as we heard from contributions in the program so far who are in the united states this doesn't the violence certainly the demonstrations that are ongoing don't look like they're going away any time soon and we'll be looking to european leaders to be on monday to see what reaction they have to the ongoing situation in the united states peter thank you for those details the authorities correspondent in berlin peter all of a well let's go live to minneapolis now and to activist moulton as siana thank you for joining us on the program could you tell us more about what the atmosphere is like in your city right now. it's it's crazy. how most of it is on fire the police are now with us. it is just it's crazy it's madness
4:23 pm
a you were among the protesters who have been out on the streets and tell us about that experience and how you were treated by the police. my friends you know when out and we were peaceful i held my sign that was a city that was sitting behind me. we were americans while i was on the frontlines . just look at us. they had aimed shot rubber bullets at us. tear gas canister. it's just it's not it's not peaceful on there and and it's it's really sad has that deterred you from going back out again. not at all my friends and i have been out there we've been helping bring waters we've been helping people we've been bringing milk we've been doing all we can to keep people out there to get the point across correctly and. you know we've we've that has not stopped
4:24 pm
us we've we've been back you know we've been there. how would you assess the overall police response to the protests so far. here in minneapolis not you see other cities like kansas city and corgan north dakota where the police are standing with their protesters they understand that police brutality is a thing and then you see many applicants and it's like what are you doing why are you fighting so hard when the core of it is in your precincts. you know we have to be there peaceful protests but then we're also seeing the looting they also noticed do you worry that people like this are going to undermine your message a 100 percent it's already as clear as day people are misinterpreting the peaceful
4:25 pm
acts aspect and the looting aspect and and and you know the good side versus the bad i'm here to say i'm not. writing but i understand is this just a case of anger spilling over or are these different people are they groups of people who are opportunists who are you know to take advantage of the situation. i believe that it's a little bit of both. a lot of people are angry but there's no reason why i write anger when i go to the point of burning houses my city town i have witnessed people not of color who are out there looting and who are out there setting things on fire just because they want to be part of the cards and that's not that's not what we're here for at all. is there any concern about the pandemic i mean you know it the us has been through so much recently with with the coronavirus thing it's been hit the hardest out of all the countries in the world. people should not think
4:26 pm
about that anymore is it just an afterthought the most important now is that they protest not at all we have. all been wearing masks there is a bunch of hand sanitizer on the front lines we are constantly going by people and giving them hand sanitizer and making sure their masks are on and even with that being said i like to keep a social distance are not many people have and i have noticed but it is still serious. what's with these protests you say you're going to continue going out on the streets you your friends your family want what's the end game here the end game here is just. completely just for justice for fortunately we would love to see justice for the police officers involved we know. the one isn't just currently but
4:27 pm
we we need to see justice through all of what do you see that happening. realistically i can't i can't really say. we've already we've already made history with with how fast he was put in jail so. i said i'm also an activist for minneapolis thank you for your time thank you for talking to us. and atlanta hundreds of people gathered outside cnn's office to condemn the channel's coverage of the current events the logo of the company has been vandalized. the who. or what if it was c.n.n.'s headquarters had already been attacked earlier this week as the protest over the killing of children which turned violent demonstrators smashed the windows and
4:28 pm
chanted slogans the channel has already been facing criticism for the power and suggesting that foreign activists have a hand in stirring up the riots. you now c.n.n. that russia might be behind some of the rioting and. the acts of violence and destruction and i. i don't know there are go so far to say that it's russia's fault are the same also the peaceful folks and saying are my community members these are the folks that live here and i were to meet we're out here demanding change it seems more. i want to say inside job but i would say not necessarily people in the community are destroying things or organizing the rights of all it's kind of. the core of the people on the outside minnesota the closer states like michigan and stuff like that a lot of the kids who are arrested last night were actually. from wisconsin and other states around here i don't think that's possible because the people i see
4:29 pm
rioting they're not russian they are there are full blooded americans you know and just people who choose to stand on the wrong side and i believe that they come in to cause confusion and chaos so that they can make the protesters look like like they're bad people and we don't have a cause but what it really comes down to is when you look at that video of george floyd saying i can't breathe i mean you're not human if you can't look at that and see that's wrong it doesn't matter for to policeman another man. but this keeps happening over and over again and this culture has got to stop c.n.n. likes to make a lot of stuff up i really don't think that the russians would be down here doing all this it's mainly the writers and they're completely different groups from the protesters but you know everybody loves a conspiracy. meanwhile c.n.n. has published in our parents response to the criticism saying not everybody act on
4:30 pm
social media is personally sent that by russian president vladimir putin a cross also took to the streets in los angeles on sunday as protests turned violent people explained why they were out. well. on a sticky issues of trying to be a journalist but stop. there shooting are believed to be back and it's time to your type.
