between the sea life and we'll share. this with you. america raise us for another night with more losing acid and police protests the violence in the wake of death we heard earlier from his. 9 year. old curfews are imposed across the dozens of cities in the united states though. leaving a trail of destruction with. shops. and protests have now spread beyond the u.s. with thousands gathering in london.
10:01 pm
hello just going 5 am here in moscow thanks for joining us in our teens a national dining hawkins' here with you tonight another night of violence in the city set ablaze amid protests sparked by the death of george floyd at the hands of police 700 people have been arrested across the united states. has imposed to stop the spread of coronavirus with america having the most confirmed infections globally in minneapolis where floyd died police have been struggling to maintain the curfew there with officers resorting to ever more heavy handed methods.
10:02 pm
these are the problems that. we need to fight for our law there is no peace until. meanwhile a makeshift memorial has been set up for george floyd some mourners have been paying their respects leaving flowers and messages aside has also become a place for peaceful protest against police brutality contrasting with the anger that has boiled over in other parts of the city and for the herald sun who's george floyd's aunt told us she never expected this scale of support. he was like the only family i say here and. i'm still trying to cope with the
10:03 pm
fact. you know lonely here because when we think you don't we play and think you know you know i don't overwhelm me. and and how much people cheer. i think i mean you don't look so much because to be killed everyone that was watching hated shia you know how you had to be who went down in front of you. and if you have 100. you know if you have a heart. to love you're going to your brain. it can't do anything for a change because there were people that told me he wanted to reach through the t.v. to stage. and you know i'm just so you know i'm overwhelmed but the response that we're getting to the love in sports. is trying to
10:04 pm
take it all in because we really like. my next world and to think he's still trying to change in the 21st century clean easy and i mean real and explore people used to hear him say oh we just. we're just we're just. now everybody get in shape see that video and watch and it doesn't matter why but i probably am but you come from you know the heart you know that was. noble and he has no by. any human being. who just is full of dirt floor for joy flows with being. convicted of murder. and this murder 3 that just planning to just trolling murder
10:05 pm
a murder spree just toying with the family call it 1st time call it what it is. that's murder. because that could be anybody sister brother. and what she said. mama mama that was my heart you can see was young i was just there to see. i'm just not. i just. don't tell us williams who says he worked in a nightclub in minneapolis where both stores floyd on the police officer discharged over his death worked as well showed his reaction with mccarron a little. i knew both of them pretty well i work with floyd as well we all knew him by. i was there welcome to club the day his 1st day coming in back in 2000 in my plea 15 something like that when he 1st came in he was there i was the head of
10:06 pm
security i wasn't aware i was in point it was hiring but the moment i saw him i knew i needed that guy florida who rose very genuine. what i mean that this guy would give you the shirt off in fact it was such a nice. game for being such a big star he was truly in touch i was so derrick saving oh say you also worked with him in a nightclub tell us more about handle. yes and let's be clear about this that people together it's a club because it's not like you working shoulder to shoulder because you sit in this park eyesight the building at the time you don't even know who's in the squad cars they show up they stay outside they don't come in they don't assist ok. just want to. come out so we don't really do that but we are
10:07 pm
employed by the same people ok so their children's relationship with floyd was very short because that was it except for the road that was. shot in. the world dale so i've been clear that i deem do you think they should even recognize floyd's during their arrest. it's possible that maybe. they did i was right in that moment because you think of my sister recognizes you in my business and security that usually gives you some type of insight but with that officer some type of time in level with that officer that usually helps you out in situations so you got called over. and you responding you newly off secret you work with the measures that can help you get out. so knowing the officer will usually help you now are you 7 i was going to say i don't i do not believe that there was any previous matches between these 2 and i would like to clear that up either but i do not believe so knowing both of these men how did you feel what was your reaction
10:08 pm
when you 1st saw the video. i was horrified. i was horrified. right away that this seemed to be just. that i was doing this i never looked like that so i was absolutely shocked and. i was. just. you know. we're going to take you live now to minneapolis minnesota where thousands of back on the streets this sunday evening despite an extended curfew bear until early
10:09 pm
monday morning lots of security forces then national guards have been called in to secure the city you can see some of them there alongside local police officers as well demonstrators of course are calling for all 4 officers who were present during that fatal incident to be charged we can see what is believed some arrests attentions of protesters being made there people with their hands above their heads could be arrested there for breaching that curfew area very much full of security forces as people are back on the streets so far though of course despite what the protesters are calling for only one is facing a charge of degree murder just romaji live pictures there we bring you of minnesota minneapolis this sunday evening in the united states. well joining me now is jeremy soucie an activist who's been demonstrating it in minneapolis itself believer you said jeremy 5 of the last 6 months you've been out on the streets
10:10 pm
there bringing some pictures to our audience live as you're speaking there what's going on just give us a bit of information about what's been going on what the mood is like the atmosphere how have things been there on the streets. so far it is very peaceful lot of solidarity. a lot of news reports have been going out about violence taking place at night. from the days that i've been out the only time violence erupts are aggression a show is when the police have come out and shown for us for the most part a lot of the protests are very peaceful their children and their families a lot of people sharing their emotions and their trauma with the public. i just can't really get over that the force that's being used out here. is just really
10:11 pm
heartbreaking to to witness you know the 1st person obviously to mention you know that the tactics used by police to say they've been justified heavyhanded have you experienced personally any of that yourself or what have you witnessed on the put the part of the police here do you feel they put on reasonable. yes i think they have on the 27th which would leave us wednesday roommate of mine went out he and i went out to the front. earlier that day public officials that spoke about the police needing to use restraint and not use this force meant a lot of people to 'd assemble peacefully. and that protests i'm not exactly sure the protests have gotten too close to the police's comfort but they began openly shooting rounds of tear gas rubber bullets into the crowd and it seemed to
10:12 pm
be like an open target practice. its intrigue eyes over you know i was struck in the back as i was trying to walk away from the from the protests. and like i shared with other people there's no notice that they're going to open fire there's no choice whether we want to engage them in that manner or not. it's just they just randomly do it without notice i have noticed now that the national guard is here get on a loudspeaker and they announce that we have to clear the area and they give us an opportunity to do that before they open fire now. we with was showing some of the photos come up which you've said it doesn't look at the pretty nasty mark you've got there on your on your torso just in terms of what the protesters are calling for in minneapolis obviously the main officer responsible for the killing has been arrested he's been charged the others have been fired they're under investigation
10:13 pm
do people all streets feel that is enough justice or do they want to see more of what is that. absolutely not it's definitely not enough and i think i think the path to peace is not this violence an excessive force they want all 4 police to be arrested and put in jail. as a normal citizen was to carry something out like this they would have gone to jail the same night 9 days later they also want. prosecution to come and because they don't trust the prosecution or the city government. i moved up here from new orleans louisiana 6 years ago and this is been long gone by. these wounds these people are trying to hit all as a community and each time that they make some progress something happens with this police force. my personal opinion i think it would be
10:14 pm
a good idea of the department of justice to step in and take over this this but we saw this department. clearly you can see that there's a hierarchy that they're still using these old behaviors and i think people need to look at the police union that is is protecting these police officers lots of them have been at pro trump rallies and white supremacy rallies. it's just like you know in order to make change you have to clean house and i think these are some things that you know the governor and the state can be doing not all. the people have made demands and they need to be met i don't think people will stop protesting and. activist who's been out demonstrating in minneapolis thanks for telling us your story today thanks for coming on good to have in the program today. thank you thanks for having me. from minneapolis to washington d.c. now these are live pictures we can bring you from the capitol where protesters are
10:15 pm
going to following various orders put on by police to stay off the streets to stay home of a coronavirus curfews the protest is curfews this is of course the day for tesa flooded parts of washington d.c. clashes have been reported in the downtown area of the capitol a crowds again swelled outside the white house you can see a bonfire of some sort being started by a protest is caught see too many police officers on national guards there in the pictures but the protesters do seem to be very much out in force with no intent to certainly. instructions from law enforcement talk all respondents. has been across the story. in cities throughout the country are bracing for these shifts night of protests now the situation in washington d.c. is particularly interesting because we have crowds of people assembling near the
10:16 pm
white house we understand the u.s. marshals and the drug enforcement agency is on the scene at the white house has been the scene of protests throughout the last few days there have been big crowds there we saw crowds up pushing on barricades down and quite quite big confrontations near the white house earlier now it has been revealed that on friday donald trump was taken to a bunker for his own protection he was taken to a bunker for security reasons this is the bunker the president of the united states are taken to in the event of terrorist attacks and such and for his own protection trump was moved to a bunker on because of the security threat posed by these protests and now we've seen donald trump on twitter lashing out at the protesters are we have seen various figures in the democratic party out in. meeting with the demonstrators now there has recently been an increased call for the protesters to be nonviolent and not to engage in and you know smashing property property destruction or looting or
10:17 pm
anything like that the calls for nonviolence up from those who agree with their their demands has increased but might it seems that the country is very very much worried now washington d.c. is has imposed a curfew and at this point we understand there is an effort to try and clear out these demonstrations on that many believe that it's after dark that these demonstrations become more violent and confrontational it's during the day we see more peaceful marches so at this point everyone is bracing for what will happen on this 5th night of protests following the killing of george floyd. a curfew 7 imposed in dozens of cities across the us meaning people are prohibited from being outside of the 8 pm that hasn't stopped the riots in new york city alone over 38 injured in clashes on saturday with around $350.00 arrests made. i.
10:19 pm
for this new york cabbie in carmel for a period on sunday but as the night draws in there are reports of some escalating violence the city's mayor has also called for an investigation which will look into the shocking pictures of n.y.p.d. vehicles ramming into protesters as following outrage over him initially defending police actions. and amid the protests trump has said he will designate the left wing militant group anti far as a terrorist organization blaming out of this for the current violence and destruction across the country journalist and t.v. host ben swan told the strong start so $94.00 could backfire. what a lot of pressure on the president to move against in secret for some time there are a lot of people who believe that it does act as a terrorist organization i actually think it sets a very poor precedent because what happens is even though there are a lot of conservatives in this country who would say well that's a good thing we need to label this group of that as a terrorism group but as soon as your guy is not in office more and you get someone from the other side that they will then want to turn around and label any protest
10:20 pm
movement on the other side also a terrorist group the establishment of the country is not sure what to make of these protests i think a lot of it has to do with it's impart a black lives matter issue it's in part a response to police violence against unarmed black men because we've seen this over and over but i also believe the more seen this in relation to the lockdown that happened in the united states there are a lot of people who have been frustrated with the financial system they're frustrated with not having jobs not being able to make money there's a lot that's going on that's creating frustration and then to see another blatant example of another black man killed at the hands of police officers and it's not just one officer by the way there's video that shows 3 other officers for some time around george floyd and the fact that there are 4 other officers in total who could have intervened and simply chose not to when protesters were saying on friday night and saturday night that their biggest frustration is that one officer has been charged but others have not been charged and they believe those officers should
10:21 pm
also be charged with murder you're seeing big coalitions of people coalescing around this particular issue which is a specific issue and an important one really to be protested but i think that there are other issues as well so i suspect we won't see at least for several days maybe even a week these these protests died out. thousands have been out in force across the state of florida after the governor called the national guard's law enforcement officials faced accusations of being too violent with demonstrators was joined live now by from florida alexis suarez who's in jacksonville thanks for joining us good to have you on today you've been out on the streets down florida what's the atmosphere been like where you've been. well i was out in the event today getting his face in st augustine very close to here in jackson hole i am a little independent journalists and activists and yesterday. there was violence by
10:22 pm
the police culminated in the streets of jacksonville they resulted in the use of the unnecessary use i say the 1st 10 i was a live video they are necessary use of tear gas against peaceful protesters people around me were peaceful and we received tear gas and i saw her tear us inhalation with my other comrades there. and you know this is a violation of international law you know i say some light on the nations of the world including russia has no respect for international law doesn't sign on the national on the preacher's international law to other nations but yes we suffered from tear gas and all types of of her oppression and in arrests in the ones that i witnessed were unjustifiable the violence was coming from the state from the police against the protesters are were yelling out slogans like black cars mounir trying to fight for their rights as african-american other minorities here in the united states and as a result i was going to an event today nearby as you know augustine and gave his
10:23 pm
speech exposing the interior use and the abuses the system is doing here. the the officer who was responsible directly for the killing he's been obviously arrested and charged the others have been dismissed there an investigation as well does this feel that is not enough to they want things to go further i mean what what is the main. goal the protesters are trying to achieve surely surely of my photos are to visually we need to have systemic change so it's not just a question of the judicial case and standing or the investigation that's pending in minneapolis or the cities where there's been abuses there are some pieces some of the changes to how police or fire how they're trained the whole system during this crisis was here in the united states from the house to be deep systemic changes and we need to find a consensus on the list of demands for those changes can be made. some people are concerned about this being the right time for turning out for mass protests i mean
10:24 pm
clearly what happened in minneapolis was a tragedy and people need to vent their anger vent their concerns surely though there is a case to answer that people are putting others at risk during coronavirus pandemic where hundreds or more people could actually die because of this. don't believe in conspiracy theories we wear masks we're responsible how we protest. and also of course the mass of a situations where tira straight as. protests and they've used pepper spray here they are violating the law using tear gas so yes we've been using mass and taking precautions and trying to social distance. as we can so we're protesting responsibly but again we're facing abuse and violence are simply unnecessary stayed in jacksonville and throughout the country. race relations with the black community the police they've always been tense in the united states going back to the
10:25 pm
protests of the sixty's and way before that decade centuries before that. do you feel the death of george floyd is a turning point kind of a some sort of turning point here or sadly can we expect this to go around in circles when there's a next case of justified police brutality yes initially turning point because there's a term that i use mostly she said hey. you know i feel sympathy more than i feel i'm missing and solidarity with the family of mr floyd who's a fellow minority an african-american. and yes i think that it can be a turning point the police can murder broad daylight on camera and on like the case in new york with a gardener who cannot breathe. in this case actually they're doing something in minneapolis but again there has to be systemic change throughout the country. activist who is that joining us live from jacksonville thanks for joining us good
10:26 pm
to have you with us today. bush. or ugly scenes have also been playing out in the city of chicago been reports of looting police say 240 people were arrested on saturday more than 20 officers injured during clashes with protesters goes mayor has strongly condemned the violence. i'm also hurt and angry if those who decided to try to hijack this moment and use it as an opportunity to wreak havoc to loot and to destroy. you should be ashamed if you are seeing us what you have done is to designer yourself your family and our city and we spoke with one on blues musician terrans o. kand on who's from chicago about how the protests have unfolded in his hometown. believe me the black community the minority community we appreciate the police and
10:27 pm
what they do and we know the job is hard but if they break the law they should be held to the same standards if not more than the average citizen that will hurt or kill somebody and if it was under your arm just you know if it was a maneuver or a tactic to kill someone on a serious shooting in the back they should be held to the same stand so i think a lot of that all of the riots and anger in attitudes towards police i think there's a mixture probably all of that people are scared enough. that they feel the no one cares. and this is the only way to lash out at the system. 'd they come from neighborhood this economically deprived it you know it's like you know you got to keep me low you going to. you know basically this system is near me on i'm there so now it's not time to get out it is and just do what we can to you
10:28 pm
know maybe you know get close to whatever i mean is wrong but i understand the anger understand you just can't control yourself anymore but that's what you put their lives and at risk of danger of being shot well being hurt you know something like that is i don't understand it from their standpoint because i'm 52 years old and i just don't understand breaking into something to move forward into or if i'm down is i'm poor i don't understand breaking into the school or going into this you know risking my life and risking the rest. the matter of atlanta's confound the 2 police officers have been fired for using excessive force during protests that all 3 of the law enforcement agents have been put on administrative duties havoc in the city so cnn's officials talk i said on saturday off the hundreds of protests the slam the media giants coverage of the fallout from george ford's death and i'm going crowd get descended on the outlets h.q.
10:29 pm
scaling and vandalizing the company logo. the. c n n's headquarters had already been attacked earlier this week as the protest over the killing of george floyd turned violent demonstrators them on a smashed windows and charted slogans the shuttle's also been facing for decision for apparently suggesting that foreign axes had a hand in stirring up but right. now c.n.n. it says that russia might be behind some of the rioting and. the acts of violence and destruction and i. i don't know there are go so far to say that it's russia's fault but i would say most of the peaceful folks and saying are my community members these are the folks that live here and i were to meet where are you demanding change it seems more. i don't want to say inside job but
10:30 pm
i would say not necessarily people in the community are destroying things or organizing the riots at all it's kind of. the core of the people on the outside minnesota closer states like michigan and stuff like that a lot of the kids who are arrested last night were actually. from wisconsin and other states around here i don't think that's possible because the people i see rioting they're not russian there are 4 blooded americans you know and just people who choose to stand on the wrong side and i believe that they come in to cause confusion and chaos so that they can make the protesters look like like they're bad people and we don't have a cause but what it really comes down to is when you look at that video of george floyd saying i can't breathe i mean you're not human if you can't look at that.
