crowds that have been gathering every night today cleanup efforts now under way after things turned violent sunday night with tensions flaring up between protesters and police and stores being looted in a lot of major cities including right here in the nation's capital and that's where we will go live. outside of the white house there and what's it looking like like out there. parts of manila right behind my camera man j.t. we have a couple of 100 of protesters chanting no justice no peace chanting george floyd in black lives matter the reason why they're actually behind us all taking over 8 straight is because you can see behind. me is the white house and lafayette park has been completely blocked off and lots of security presence here guarding that park so this is actually the closest point that these protesters will be able to get to the white house unlike last night where the d.c. curfew was 11 pm last night but tonight it's actually scheduled to begin at 7 pm but just an hour before the curfew last night multiple fires in the area were

started including one of the historic st john's church right in the downtown just a block from the white house where actually many u.s. presidents have attended over the years and you also had other vandalism like what you're about to see here in d.c. is national mall or right outside the lincoln memorial it was written in graffiti ya'll not tired yet and at the world war 2 memorial written do black vets count. has called on the entire d.c. national guard which is made up of about 1700 soldiers to help control these protests metro police arrested around 18 people last night ranging from 18 to 34 and they're also actually posting pictures on social media with images of people caught on security footage asking for the help public's help and identifying them not today president he did meet with attorney general bill barr who is trying to fast track the george floyd investigation about truck also had a closed door video conference with state and local leaders governors all also with law enforcement and national security officials where there are reports from the inside that the president told him that they need to step it up one quote coming

out of that room from saying it's a movement if you don't put it down it will get worse and worse the only time it's successful is when you're weak and most of you are weak notrump also pointing out the minneapolis police departments the precinct being burned the city where the protests all started now trump has been very vocal on where he stands on the issue mainly saying that those that are rioting and looting causing violence there are members of. their yesterday he doesn't need it and as a terrorist organization tweeting i don't see any indication that there were any white supremacist groups mixing in this is an anti for organization now ago. that curfew is set tonight for 7 pm here in the d.c. metro area but there's a lot on social media they're actually calling for the gatherings last night to come back again tonight again we saw a lot of vandalism last night but as of right now we've got a few 100 protesters gathered right behind my camera man will get shots we will be monitoring the situation all afternoon but for now you can get the latest updates

and economic meltdown we're going to go now to the starting point were all of this has sparked up in the us down in minneapolis actually banks is live for us there actually what's happening. there manila so you're in the great knock things are pretty peaceful contrary to. everything. right now and i still got sick you know it's like. you know a lot of. you know a lot a lot of burning i'd like you to take a look here and see what happens in the shelling got in on a friday it's pretty dim and not you can still smell the burning of what you can smell the burning of electronics of food of last. sight and peaceful for a lot of people in this city so i got the opportunity to speak with me right up the owner of this shell gas and he let me know how devastated you was and how the owner of this shell got. to get these people who have been impacted already by clove it
2:14 pm
might be and where a lot of people are taken to the street because you think that got sick and they're not using their money to buy a lot of people as you know are waiting and so right now these people did not prepare or to take place and they did not prepare for these protests in the city so while i was talking to the friend of the owner someone else chimed in and let me know that they believe the people of minneapolis what not even. people who are coming from out of state they believe. just trying to find a way to make the protesters look. now last night i had to do a peaceful protest to the visual form. george lloyd there are about 200 to 300 people if they are. running. the pots. and everyone there they were just me to be there and they were just saying they had to
2:15 pm
break a united front too much or that justice is served all people want in this city it's basically for these remaining 3 often to be held a hell of a lot and for this 3rd degree murder charges. they want that to be the 1st. but i want to tell you during the peaceful protests last night a lot of the demonstrators were on so they were tense once again we were prosecutor feel while we were attending the protest they were expecting the not guard. and that's not well i was there luckily and people were able do you know whatever. you got. in chile and i want to speak about. the care here in the city where people were only protesting on i 35 less down there are a lot of people on the arab states and there was somebody driving to meet her and pull out through a group of protesters luckily no one was your time driver hotfooting no one's
2:16 pm
sure. yet right now around here. and they've been shutting down the highways different like the yemeni shutting down at 500 for them taking place at the time. that the person is actually guilty on. something. you know when they're all really quickly i just wonder if not more protests are. on the rest of the week as many people there are just frustrated and they're. seeing the killings happening want to mark martin. and nothing ever happened. this time around. i actually banks they stay. for us there in minneapolis thank you. and i say you know it all began in minneapolis but has since spread across the west and now the george boyd death has sparked global
2:17 pm
protests against police brutality and chanting black lives matter in london berlin all over europe and elsewhere all the way down in new zealand hundreds of protesters took to the streets calling for justice and joining the fight against racism to discuss these protests and the roots of racism and we will talk to our panel today former u.k. m.p. george galloway and pulitzer prize winning journalist host of on contact chris hedges is joining us so 1st over to george george we we saw protests across london all the way across to cardiff but those in the u.k. seemed peaceful were they and are there similar sentiment about police brutality over there in the u.k. as well. amongst black people there certainly 'd is no policeman has ever really been brutal to me but then i've got blue eyes and a white face that's not the lived experience of many of the black people in big cities in britain and that's true of course across the european continent saw the
2:18 pm
demonstrations in britain have been big even in my own home city of done deal a small city 180000 people which doesn't have a demonstration that i've known of since i left at 35 years ago has a demonstration this evening. a very peaceful place had a gigantic demonstration today this is all being free told for america's soft power in the world mandela the idea of might and donald trump giving orders instructions advice as to how other people in other countries should live and should run their own countries is actually laughable now of what one saw tragic there was a poor. today in europe 40 percent of the respondents said america was a very racist country another 40 percent said it was fairly racist country only 4 percent the america wasn't racist at all while i chris here
2:19 pm
domestically leading up to this we saw on the i'm odds are very killing we thought the briana taylor the e.m.t. killed in her own home and this was a tinderbox waiting to park wasn't it and george floyd was that spark why. because of the. systematic forms of racism and oppression. that have squeezed and put tremendous stress on the lives of the poor the working poor in particular those people trapped in what malcolm x. called our internal colonies half the country lives in poverty or a category called near poverty there the poor are priced out of the health care system the public schools don't function they don't have adequate food. we had
2:20 pm
rampant food insecurity before the endemic clean water constant vixens of the largest prison system in the world privatized utilities that can be shut off lack of employment a crippling debt peonage and of course the pandemic has exacerbated all of this or people of color dying it disproportionately higher rates and they get the message so the message is they don't count their lives are of no consequence unless of course they're locked in a cage oh where their bodies can generate $60000.00 a year for or for profit medical services food services money transfer services commissary services own services private prisons eccentric and i think that what we're seeing is. not just another rising up against the wanted and indiscriminate murder of a black man rumor 1100 people know almost all or people of color on our murder every year at least in this country but i think that you know finally people about
2:21 pm
enough i think that's what we're seeing and that's why it's rippled out across the country and george much of the mainstream media in the us reported the protests in hong kong as freedom supporters and especially glorified them in their cars but yet these protesters here aren't reported as righteous they're looters they're criminals is there a difference here. yes it was the war stymieing in political history when donald trump appeared in the rose garden to take a new raft of sanctions against china on the proximate cause of how china protesters on the very day literally the better day when from sea to sign shining sea of the united states was on fire this is what i mean by the death of american softball the idea of the people running america are fit to tell other
2:22 pm
people in the world how they should handle the affairs is no pay to me risible the point about these the straw that broke the camel's back of course is that you never know when the last straw came if you knew it was the last straw you wouldn't load it on to the camel's back but once you have loaded it on the camel's back is broken it can never be put to gether again now this didn't start with donald trump far from it in fact joe biden and barack obama made the lives of black people people of color in america markedly worse than they were when they came to power but somehow the. the nakedness of the u.s. administration in the face of this ugliness which the whole world is watching. really been particularly toxic effect never could
2:23 pm
a group of more privileged men be seen to be fiddling while their country burnt chris i want to pose the same question to you how do you look at the mainstream media and how they're covering compare contrast for us if you will the coverage of the hong kong riots or protests versus the protests or riots here in the u.s. . well that's nothing new i mean i was overseas for 20 years so when i cover the war now salvador we had catholic priests who were murdered by death squads or the salvadoran military backed by the reagan administration and it raised barely a ripple and then of course there was a priest a murder by the communist government in poland and he instantly became a martyr so you know states all states selectively use. human rights abuses in countries of their adversaries to posit themselves as moral arbiters you know i want to just 2nd what george said that this is
2:24 pm
a systematic abuse that predates trump even predates obama and what did the kleptocrats do in the midst of this pandemic they tossed a few crumbs out of the windows of their private jets and yachts and pull a shell homes and then handed 4 trillion dollars in fines and tax breaks to oil companies the airline industry which alone got $50000000000.00 in stimulus money and now says it's not enough the cruise ship industry the real estate industry private equity firms abhi groups this political action committees have given over $191000000.00 in campaign contributions to politicians and last 2 decades even corporations that have moved offshore to avoid u.s. taxes the whole you know 8085 percent of all of these programs out of the stimulus package has gone to the wealthiest now point one percent and we have
2:25 pm
watched it jeff bezos the richest man in the world whose corporation amazon paid no federal taxes last year alone and down 34600000000 to his wealth 443000000000 has now been added to the wealth of the billionaire class since the can down the endemic began and i think all of that that. you know that myopia that inability to respond is also an important part of what we're seeing in terms of these uprisings and real quickly gentlemen i want to pose this one last question to you both we've seen in recent days when this sustained protest movement happening all across the country russia is being brought into it george what are your final thoughts on that . well i wondered how long it would be before any television station in the u.s. made the laughable allegation and predictably it was c.n.n. the very person of creation of big news from the mouth of the susan rice
2:26 pm
form our ranking official. of the united states she literally said with these straight face that this was coming out of the russia playbook i'm surprised that trump isn't claiming it's coming out of the big ging playbook by the way this obsession with russia and with china on either side of the aisle in u.s. politics just makes the whole thing even more ridiculous i'm afraid these problems were grown in america and grown centuries of gore in america and they should be addressed and solved i pray that they are solved in america it's about time america stayed home and fixed its own problems chris final thoughts on russia being a part of this well of course the ruling elites are going to accept responsibility for their. going after empty for which on the spectrum of violent terrorist groups we're going with boy scouts after russia. they will look for any scapegoat they can
2:27 pm
and they will widen the social and cultural divide which is largely racial. pitting white vigilante groups against anything to deflect responsibility from their own complicity and let's be clear the complicity of the democrats and the republicans in creating this state and orcus for good i tell all right gentlemen thank you both for weighing in on this subject george galloway chris hedges thank you gentleman. all right we'll have a lot more news coming up for you in the 3 o'clock hour we'll have more live coverage of these nationwide protests over the death of george floyd including a live report from downtown miami all that and more coming up at 3 pm but that's it for right now make sure you keep up with everything and question at all times by downloading our brand new free app to catch that 247 portable t.v. go check it out on me on twitter at military and question one thing about.
