i don't think you. greetings and salutation. well we've been subjected to a lot of bad this week from the presidential sanction violence committed on peaceful protesters were basically amounted to a trump campaign photo op to the brutal uses of tear gas riot shields and rubber bullets on peaceful protesters and journalists in new york city and los angeles and almost every major u.s. city in between there has also my friends been some bright shining moments of beauty and good amidst all of that i mean you could you could practically hear a sigh of relief echo across the country with news that iowa congressional

republican and universally agreed upon terrible human being steve king lost his primary race on tuesday night. good feeling to know one less racist in congress but these early winds of change my friends are not just blowing across the united states of america as n.p.r. reports u.s. protesters rallying against the killing of george floyd and countless other black americans are being heard around the world as demonstrators launch their own protests in the countries in countries such as the united kingdom germany canada iran and new zealand and many more but it's not only showing support for the racially and financially oppressed underclass here in the united states that has brought many of these global activists to the streets it's also the violence that law enforcement agencies have perpetrated in their own countries yahoo news reports that protesters are also calling for domestic chart changes in france there are demonstrations in response to the killing of black frenchmen adama tarrar in 2016

and australia protesters are calling for the government to re-examine the treatment of aboriginal peoples. and this includes our neighbors to the north and canada where toronto is currently reeling from the death of 29 year old black woman regis core chimpsky pocket who mysteriously fell to her death from her 24th floor apartment balcony after police were called to her apartment so today my friends let's examine the black lives matter movement outside of us borders as we look at canada's reaction the police violence against minorities as we start watching all this. what's going on in a city. you want to. see that rises you always stay safe always. great seeing desolate systemic deceptions so which. brings up the guilt as.

well we're going to watch in the dark so i am tyrone benton out of the 6 joining us now to discuss the latest on the mysterious death of 29 year old black woman regis cortes inskeep after trying to police were called to her home is our correspondent in toronto alex male a bitch thank you for joining us alex thanks for having me so alex please explain to our viewers what we know so far about the events leading up to this woman's death why were police called to her home and what were the and what are they saying took place the that led her to her death her fall. well what we're still waiting to hear from the toronto police services special investigations unit they usually look into cases like this where there's some discrepancy of what exactly went down but let me tell you something there's been a media leak from the toronto sun and this is basically the story that they are saying what they're saying happened here so miss package has had some mental issues

in the past her mother called the police to come because of a domestic dispute when the police arrived what they did at that point is actually separate a couple police officers went inside the apartment with her somebody stayed outside with the mother and brother and then out of one point she bolted for the balcony according to toronto sun report she put some appliance to block that door of the balcony when a police officer saw that they basically ran to get to another apartment and looked like she was trying to get from one apartment to another and before they could make it she fell to her death now from that account it looks like police were actually trying to help her. but the situation merits some some interest in it this is a situation where you have somebody with a history of mental health issues it does not look like it's necessarily tied to racism per se but that said we have had protests in the city because of this issue that we're tied directly to george floyd and what has happened in the united states

and when you take it to that level this again when we talk about merit this is not without merit seeing that we do have our issues here in this country we do know that race some is systematic in canada our own premier here in ontario doug ford has also said that out loud after denying it in the beginning we do know we have an issue when you look at our prime minister justin trudeau in blackface just a few years ago and of course a number media picked up on that we do know we have an issue when a former opposition leader stockwell day is just basically dismissing this and just . the whole way the conservative element in this country is looking in to what has happened here in the past it's like i'm saying systematic racism and we're talking about anti black racism this is the issue of the day we know we have the same issues with aboriginal communities and other communities but let's talk about what's on the table here all you need to do is go to social media see my fellow canadians on there and you recognize you can recognize right from the 1st point

that there is race about racism in this country as much as we hate to hear it. and alex there's a lot to unpack here could you help us with the current status of the investigation into the toronto police actions on that day. so what the police are doing right now they were supposed to talk to the family of miss pac at this week basically wrap all this up but with the toronto sun leak what police are saying is that they are pushing this further back and it looks like we will have some information by next week from the f.b.i. you itself as it stands and there seems to be some sort of you know there is looking at this report and there's something definitely there are people protesting we're going to see where that goes i mean if this does turn into something other than what the story is saying well then you know it's going to be just like in the states the people will have a reason to protest something that's that does actually directly tie to racism but

a mental health episode and police were called to the building where he was exterior that were and experience the episode shortly afterwards he was shot to death not for a local gentleman but name of the underage campbell wouldn't be a brampton area which is just outside of toronto suburban area it was also apparently experiencing a mental health that the so were some sort of servants and when the police showed up and he was shot to death and now we see it again where the circumstances behind behind the packet steps are still up to the special investigations unit sit still and question right now the fact of the matter is police were called to the home of somebody who was experiencing mental hope it so happens so. it's unfortunate that when people of the family member or friends or partners of some years' experience about the note that was so is going or going through them to have questions as to whether they should even call emergency services what can happen what could be the

end result of that. and under 8 we know here in america that americans have a very long sordid in pretty troubled history with u.s. law enforcement not only poor people of color but also indigenous peoples and we've heard time and time again that there is such a push to have these people often go to a place like canada that seen as so much better in terms of its handling of race how prevalent is racism in canada law enforcement community. well i don't even really know what to tell you when people say things like you know it's different to canada they don't have the same kind of racism that exists in the united states unfortunately it doesn't help when our elected officials are people like our premier doug ford of ontario which is the most populous province in canada. france where they go the other premier deny that stomach reaches them it's even a thing that exists but we know what that is because the. it's a sick spirit out that we're terrible it collecting data get it we're awful like collecting statistics but what we do shows step there are disproportionate about

the police violence that are used especially on the on black people in the one in which in this people these aren't conjectures these are plain facts we've had marches in canada not only for black lies but also for which of those lives we have had proof that there is a genocide that's been active on just indigenous people in canada that young men especially from the genus communities do think this report events of police violence so when people in the united states and elsewhere talk about racism being different in canada i have to ask what are you talking about that's a great question to ask you know i want to finish up we've got a little bit of minute left we see an incredible response across the globe to the black lives matter movement here in the u.s. in light of joy george lloyd's death why do you think that countries like canada other countries around the world are so embrace in this movement we're seeing protests all over the world right now. well this is this is putting a spark to the few black racism not only in the united states but literally around the world you know even can you can find replicate so that sort of racism that is

voices. but the solidarity doesn't stop there the race issues in america are also receiving support from professional sports coaches and players too even international in v.a. icon michael jordan known for his effort to get into action in social justice movements is taking a stand and an interesting show of protest support also came from n.f.l. commissioner roger goodell the same goodell that made sure colin kaepernick would never play again after taking me just a few years ago here to tell us more is our team america sports producer regina him i'd like to bring good news monday i would just one day and we're waiting for it we're waiting for the day what we're doing on the n.f.l. is currently under fire for its response to the protests over the death of george floyd especially since it essentially blacklisted collin capper nick who's still is not able to be employed by the n.f.l. for taking me or that the national anthem what are some of the comments teams have made and how is the league's response being received overall oh the league oh the league you know you're playing devil's advocate you're gone you're at least you

said something like if they hadn't said anything the i or they would have drawn would be immense but you know the n.f.l. said they're saddened by the tragic events across our country the protesters reactions reflect the pain anger and frustration that many of them feel many of them interesting considering there's only 4 non white coat head coaches in the league one nonwhite owner and 2 not my g.m. and then the broncos coach vick then gio he decided to chime in and got himself in some hot water he said that the n.f.l. is a meritocracy i don't see racism in the n.f.l. at all i don't see discrimination in the n.f.l. at all and of course as you can imagine many of his fellow coaches and other players only kind of when you need to check yourself if you think there's no races in the n.f.l. this is the same lee that blackballed calling cabinet as a as much as you said where are you saying this is a totally fair you know league that we're going in. with all why why and why

not i don't know that our city isn't there yet no you're pretty much like a crime in an oreo cookie there's a lot of frosting and one crow the broncos coach is trying to keep his job and you try to apologize he did he try to do that i realize i said was wrong but didn't say he that the problem didn't exist so if the n.f.l. is under hot water and your brain is decided to add fuel to the flame saying that he doesn't agree with any way to disrespect the flag including somehow aaron rodgers aside in a cavern and so it's been a weird stance in the n.f.l. and you see them kind of sticking their status quo nothing's changed if we switch over there's a there's another major sports league in the united states that actually has been making some pretty good strides in terms of what since all this started the m.b.a. has been praised for that only supporting players who protest but also make strides towards legitimate changes within their league in terms of how they treat black athletes how this is out of their comparative the n.f.l. with what their players and coaches are doing you see

a lot more support from the top down in the n.b.a. you see adam silver the league's commissioner talking about how you know they do require players to stand for the anthem but they push your players go out and talk on social issues go out be active in your community and that's the big difference is the fact they want their play speak out actually it steph curry was just out protesting in oakland with the protesters there so they're encouraging their players they actually have a the national basketball association established a committee on in justice reform with gold star or as head coach steve kerr and gregg popovich of san diego spurs both very outspoken on social media about this cause and getting out and i mean sure their players are vocal about it and that is what we need to see in our professionally you need to see more of coaches and players and league officials be like talk about this please get involved cream of. jobar good lord i'm so angry about this you can hear it in my voice and he even came out and spoke about it so you need to see the other leagues the n. the n.h.l. the m l b the n.f.l. pushing their players that this is good to talk about this for the betterment of everybody absolutely and i think that in all of the leagues we need. coaches like

steve kerr live popovich to have the entirety of their careers being race forward being the people who are just extremely understanding of what's going on this isn't new to them they've been true to this more decades know they they stand by what they say they stick by their morals so much for bringing us this news from the sporting world always a pleasure from. ordering tear gas attacks on peaceful protesters in the nation's capital backfired for us president. it looks like his last minute photo op in front of one of the oldest church is holding a bible wasn't the right move not only is trump facing criticism from the bishop of the local diocese of washington religious leaders throughout the country elected officials and concerned citizens troops top brass have spoken out to u.s. military advisor james miller jr resigned from his post in a strongly worded letter directly calling out secretary of defense marc answer in the letter esper is accused of by leading his oath to defend the constitution

through his support of troops use of the military on peacefully protesting civilians joining us to shed more light on this developing story is r t correspondent. good to have you once more i'm so you were there moments before the now infamous picture was taken on monday and then the next day you were also there with protestors what was the energy like in difficulty up heighten the protests you know it's funny to me so my photographer and i we were just minutes in front of where those canisters were fired so had we waited 5 more minutes we would have been in the thick of it all and the next day as you mentioned you know when i was with those protesters we also saw tons of religious leaders from all faiths coming out they were praying outside of st john's church where our live shot was set up to announce that we're trying to even have catholic priests going to the protesters and sprinkling holy water on that now these were some of the photos that i happen to take while we were there but it's monday's photo obviously that's the big issue that james miller has with the defense secretary marc esper who actually published. his resignation in the

washington post writing to asper president transactions monday night violated his oath to take care that the laws be faithfully executed you may not have been able to stop the president but you could have chosen to oppose it instead you visibly supported it. you know it's interesting because now you have a whole lot of backpedaling going on since the spota war at the bottle started it seems like james miller's seeing what everyone else saw what is the trumpet ministration you know our other excusing what of it what leg are they leading on today reisa tyrrell so when when you think about when you were a little kid right and you got in trouble what's the 1st thing that little kids say i didn't know was going to happen right that's exactly what mark esper is now saying in fact trump is actually mad that he's backpedaling now but as for says that he was told that he was going to be doing just 2 things the 1st was just looking at the damage of st john's church from the night before because they got spray painted it was part of the basement caught on fire and talking with the troops in lafayette park which is directly across the street from the white house

he also did push back on the media though saying that what was reported was actually an accurate listen to this national guard forces did not fire rubber bullets or tear gas in the crowd as reported. second guardsmen were instructed to wear helmets and personal protective equipment for their own protection not to serve as some form of intimidation. and we also have another person who was on that walk the nation's highest ranking military officer echoing what asper just said and you also have attorney general bill barr he's coming out saying that it wasn't trump who ordered the gas canisters it was him trying to take all the blame off of trouble so again it's rewriting history or is it protesters reporters getting the facts wrong who's to say. that's a good question to ask very good question. fair and i got to say thank you so much and thank you for bringing that report to us live and thankfully you weren't caught in the middle of a very dangerous photo op by our president thank you so much always
