greetings and salutations well we've been subjected to a lot of bad this week from the presidential sanctioned violence committed to peaceful protesters were basically amounted to a trump campaign photo op to the brutal uses of tear gas riot shields and rubber bullets on peaceful protesters and journalists in new york city in los angeles and almost every major u.s. city in between there has also my friends been some bright shining moments of beauty and good amidst all of that i mean you could you could practically hear a sigh of relief echo across the country with news that iowa congressional republican and universally agreed upon terrible human being steve king lost his primary race on tuesday night. good feeling to know one less racist in congress but these early winds of change my friends are not just blowing across the united states of america as n.p.r. reports u.s. protesters rallying against the killing of george floyd and kahless other black

americans are being heard around the world as demonstrators launch their own protests in the countries in countries such as the united kingdom germany canada iran and new zealand and many more but it's not only showing support for the racially and financially oppressed underclass here in the united states that has brought many of these global activists to the streets it's also the violence that law enforcement agencies have perpetrated in their own countries yahoo news reports that protesters are also calling for domestic chart changes in france there are demonstrations in response to the killing of black frenchmen the dhamma tarrar in 2016 and in australia protesters are calling for the government to re-examine the treatment of aboriginal peoples. and this includes our neighbors to the north and canada where toronto is currently reeling from the death of 29 year old black woman regis core chimpsky pocket who mysteriously fell to her death from her 24th floor

to our viewers what we know so far about the events leading up to this woman's death why were police called to her home and what were the and what are they saying took place that led to her to her death her fall. while what we're still waiting to hear from the toronto police services special investigations unit they usually look into cases like this where there's some discrepancy of what exactly went down but let me tell you something there's been a media leak from the toronto sun and this is basically the story that they are seeing of what they're saying happened here so miss package has had some mental issues in the past her mother called the police to come because of a domestic dispute when the police arrived what they did at that point is actually separate the mother and brother from this pocket herself to go inside to the bathroom couple police officers went inside the apartment with her somebody stayed outside with the mother and brother and then out one point she bolted for the

balcony according to toronto sun report she put some appliance to block that door of the balcony when a police officer saw that he basically ran to get to another apartment and book but she was trying to get from one apartment to another and before they could make it she fell to her death now from that account it looks like police were actually trying to help her. but the situation merits those some some interest in it this is a situation where you have somebody with a history of mental health issues it does not look like it's necessarily tied to racism per se that said we have had protests in the city because of this issue that we're tied directly to george floyd and what has happened in the united states and when you take it to that level again when we talk about merit this is not without merit seeing that we do have our issues here in this country we do know that racism is systematic in canada our own premier here in ontario doug ford. also said

that out loud after denying it in the beginning we do know we have an issue when you look at our prime minister justin trudeau in blackface just a few years ago and of course we have them the media picked up on that we do know we have an issue when a former opposition leader stockwell day is just basically dismissing this and just the whole way the conservative element in this country is looking in to what has happened here in the past it's like i'm saying systematic racism and we're talking about anti black racism this is the issue of the day we know we have the same issues with aboriginal communities and other communities but let's talk about what's on the table here all you need to do is go to social media see my fellow canadians on there and you recognize you can recognize right from the 1st point that there is race of the racism in this country as much as we hate to hear it. alex there's a lot to unpack here to help us with the current status of the investigation into the toronto police actions on that day. so what the police are doing right now they

were supposed to talk to the family of miss park at this week basically wrap all this up but with the toronto sun leak what police are saying is that they are pushing this further back and it looks like we will have some information by next week from the f.b.i. you itself as it stands and there seems to be some sort of you know there is looking at this report and there's something definitely there are people protesting we're going to see where that goes i mean if this does turn into something other than what this story is saying well then you know it's going to be just like in the states that people will have a reason to protest something that says that does actually directly tie to racism but i sense as i said as it stands right now that seems to have nothing to do with racism and more to do with the mental health issue of an individual something that also police forces need to be very sensitive to and that's when they're approaching people that have these type of. problems there life. thank you very much alex for

getting out right i guess. joining us now to also try to try to bring us a deeper look into the case that we were discussing earlier with alex relevance and how it has affected the community and try to as well as the world as writer activists don't miss out on great thank you so much for joining us i want to start and ask you what bothers you and others in toronto so deeply about the police's actions surrounding this park caps and death and what questions desperately need to be need to be answered at this moment. well unfortunately this is all too common. we have a gentleman by the name of angelo q who is experiencing a mental health episode and police were called to the building where he was that were and experience the episode shortly afterwards he was shot to death not for longer gentlemen but the name of the author of campbell wouldn't be a brampton area which is just outside of toronto suburban area it was also

apparently experiencing a mental health that the so were some sort of servants and when the police showed up and he was shot to death and now we see it again where the circumstances behind behind the packet steps are still up to the special investigations unit sit still and question right now the fact of the matter is police were called to the home of somebody he was experiencing went to hope it was so happens so. it's unfortunate that when people of the family member or friends or partners of some years' experience about the hope that with so it is going or going through them to have questions as to whether they should even call emergency services what can happen what could be the end result of that. and under-rate we know here in america that americans have a very long sordid in pretty troubled history with u.s. law enforcement not only for people of color but also indigenous peoples and we've heard time and time again that there is such a push to have these people often go to

a place like canada that seen as so much better in terms of its handling of race how prevalent is racism in canada law enforcement community. i don't even really know what to tell you when people say things like oh you know it's different to canada they don't have the same kind of racism that exists in the united states unfortunately it doesn't help when our elected officials are people like our premier doug ford of ontario which is the most a populous province in canada. france where they go the other premier. deny that stomach reaches them it's even a thing that exists but we know what that is because. the statistics bear it out that we're terrible it collecting data get it we're awful like collecting statistics but what we do shows step there are disproportionate about the police violence that are used especially on not on black people in the one in which in this people these aren't conjectures these are plain facts we've had marches in canada not only for black wise but also for indigenous lives we have had proof that there is a genocide that's been acted on indigenous people in canada the young men especially

from the genus communities do you think this report events of police violence so when people in the united states and elsewhere talk about racism being different in canada i have to ask what are you talking about that's a great question to ask you know i want to finish up we've got a little bit of minute left we see an incredible response across the globe to the black lives matter movement here in the u.s. in light of joy george lloyd's death why do you think that countries like canada other countries around the world are so embrace in this movement we're seeing protests all over the world right now. well this is this is putting a spark to the few black racism not only in the united states but literally around the world you know even can you can find replicate so that sort of racism that is the united states you can find it you know it can be done you can find it in the mainland europe you can find in countries like south africa still it's still a problem we like to believe that we've made strides of progress in that racism is the thing in the past and unfortunately if you if you talk to people from black new

on social issues go out be active in your community and that's the big difference is the fact they want their place speak out actually it's stuff curry was just out protesting in oakland with the protesters there so they're encouraging their players they actually have a the national basketball association established a committee on in justice reform with gold star or as head coach steve kerr and gregg popovich of san diego spurs both very outspoken on social media about this cause and getting out and let me assure their players are vocal about it and that is what we need to see in our professionally you need to see more of coaches and players and league officials be like talk about this please get involved in what cream of. jobar good lord i'm so angry about this you can hear it in my voice and he even came out and spoke about it so you need to see the other leagues the n. the n.h.l. the m l b the n.f.l. pushing their players that this is good to talk about this for the betterment of everybody absolutely and i think that in all of the leagues we need more. coaches like steve kerr live popovich to have the entirety of their careers being raced forward being the people who are just extremely understanding of what's going on this isn't new to them they've been true to this more decades know they they stand
