we're part of the global news promptly to participate in the published works and video which. hello there i'm an old you're watching in question broadcasting from our to america's national news headquarters in washington d.c. we want to welcome our viewers from across the nation and all around the world our top story america in chaos. we begin this hour with breaking news out of buffalo new york that is where 57 police officers that's right 57 have just resigned in response to the police department suspending just 2 officers now those 2 officers are being investigated
5:01 pm
for injuring an elderly man during a protest and a word of warning the video you're about to see may be disturbing for some viewers on thursday and once he had the pavement the officers just keep walking by the man was later rushed to the hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition a spokesperson for the city initially said the elderly man had tripped and fell but after video surfaced the police commissioner ordered an internal investigation and the immediate suspension of those 2 officers now the union that represents those officers say the 2 suspended officers were just following orders. and over to minneapolis minnesota a wounded city still dealing with the death of george floyd at the hands of 4 police officers there and the massive protests that followed today there are several developments in that city actually banks's on the ground with this report.
5:02 pm
i am here at the site where george boyd was killed by former officer and derrick chauvin and as you can see behind me there are a large crowd of people with here just trying to remember his a life you can also hear music people are grilling and handing out free food they're handing out free water there just how be that these 4 officers have been charged and of course they're waiting on at these convictions now just moments ago the city i'm now also it will ban a troll cold and it's basically requiring police to report and to intervene if they see any excessive use of force taking place now this is just one change that's come in the wake of george boyd's death but there are many more changes to come take a lot more. in the wake of george lloyd's death minneapolis city council has called an emergency meeting today to discuss possibly disbanding the police department reclaim the block and other grassroots community groups have been demanding this for years due to black and brown residents experiencing police brutality the city council president says they plan to replace the department with
5:03 pm
a transformative new model of public safety jeremiah ellison the son of minnesota attorney general keith ellison and a representative of the city's ward 5 weighed in tweeting we are going to dismantle the minneapolis police department and when we're done or not simply going to glue it back together we're going to dramatically rethink how we approach public safety and emergency response it's really passive do many organizations have already cut ties with the city's law enforcement including the university of minnesota minneapolis public schools minneapolis parks and recreation board and law firm dorsey and whitney officials say this list could grow in the coming weeks floyd's family held memorial services yesterday at north central university many were in attendance including rover now sharpton benjamin crump the lead attorney for floyd's family eric gardner's mother's 70 year old went car kevin hart master p. a ludicrous well delivered. in the eulogy river asked the congregation to stand for
5:04 pm
8 minutes and 46 seconds the amount of time former officers showed and kept his knee on floyd's neck and back although all 4 officers involved in floyd's death have been charged peaceful protests will continue here in minneapolis and across the nation as people want to see convictions and reforms not only with the minneapolis police department but across the nation. and thursday's memorial service actually was the 1st of 3 i'm hearing for floyd's family so what's next for his family members. now treatment to avoid body it's going to go to north carolina where he was born for public viewing and private family service on saturday and then after that the public viewing and funeral will be held in houston and next monday and tuesday back to you ashley banks there on the ground in minneapolis thank you. and we are on about the 12th day of nationwide protests over
5:05 pm
the death of george boyd including demonstrations right here in the nation's capital and today d.c. is mare is sharing a strong message and making a bold move just steps away from the white house that's where we can find are too scared she's on the ground with more. the middle so you could say that d.c. mayor marion kind of all did herself in this message writing the letters black lives matter that take up this entire street where i'm standing right now we're at that black lives matter but you can see in the distance behind me it's literally just a block away from the white house trying to send that message this is video actually from twitter this morning where the crews were actually painting and finishing the finishing off the thinking touches on the black lives matter bureau that stretches again as i mentioned for almost 3 blocks leading up to the white house now once the crews were fenice there was a ceremony and a moment of silence retorts lloyd right in front of lafayette park where actually the 16th street side was actually taken down and. this area we're standing in is
5:06 pm
now renamed black live so matter was up you also had bows are posting on twitter a letter that she sent to donald trump ending the state of emergency in d.c. saying the protesters have been peaceful and that the metro police didn't make a single arrest thursday night which is why he's calling on trucks to remove any federal law enforcement or military presence in the city now you had trump earlier today visiting maine where he had a round table and he visited a high school along with a plant that's making personal up protection gear for the covert 19 democrats still going on but you also had him talking about the paycheck protection program flexibility act of 2020 but before that he actually responded to bows or while he was in maine saying this tweet the incompetent mayor of washington d.c. who's budget is totally out of control and is constantly coming back to us for handouts is now fighting with the national guard to save her from great embarrassment over the last number of nights she doesn't treat these men and women well that will bring a different group of men and women in and again so while he was and made before
5:07 pm
that in the rose garden he announced the paycheck protection program flexibility act of 2020 taking a victory lap after the government actually reported surprising job numbers for last month seizing on the data to predict that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic and its economic disruption was in the rearview mirror now will trump the dodds all in any questions when it came to race relations or police brutality but he did mention george floyd's name to listen. to george is looking down right now and so he was a great thing that's happening for a country there's a great day for him it's a great day for everybody is a great day for everybody this is a great great day. in terms of equality. and again with those 3 moment those 3 things with bows are actually you know calling out the national guard to leave renaming the 16th street as is the black lives matter plaza and these letters sending quite a big statement to donald trump. this afternoon. what about the protesters here do
5:08 pm
you see what's next for them. so the big plan is tomorrow is actually at noon protesters plan to come back here in front of the white house and they're going to hold those 8 minutes of silence again for the representing the number of the amount of time that the officer had his knee on george. but again with here today it was a little bit different than how it was monday because again monday it was people marching and chanting you can see behind me it's almost like a block party there is but dance breakouts here or you know all over the place of music blasting so a real message of unity and also one of optimism coming here today from these. protests on the side of back to you certainly more festive mood there on the ground for us thank you. over in the u.k. a strong showing on the streets of birmingham in solidarity with the new west black lives matter movement and the death of george fluent and then over in france police there have banned a black lives matter demonstration from taking place tomorrow in front of the u.s.
5:09 pm
embassy in paris police say the band is due to the high risk of social disorder and health dangers from large gatherings because of the pandemic. despite a number of harsh threats from u.s. leaders quite doe has yet to take over the government of venezuela and the country is still working with an ally that has also been the subject of harsh sanctions themselves from the u.s. army's rachel blevins is joining us now to discuss the latest on that so rachel where exactly is why i don't know and what's going on with his whole situation what's actually unclear exactly where one is right now in this week president nicolas maduro accused him of hiding in a diplomatic location he suggested that it was the french and be seen in caracas however france has now come out and denied all of those allegations altogether and they actually released a statement which came from a spokeswoman for france's foreign ministry and she said mr one by joe is not at the front residence in caracas we have. peter gleick confirmed this to the
5:10 pm
venezuelan authorities now france is one of the countries that joined the united states and saying it recognizes as the president of venezuela and there's been an ongoing dispute in the last month paris accused the venezuelan government of harassing its embassy in caracas and even cutting off water and electricity from the ambassador's residence after migiro accused him of meddling in venezuela as affairs now ritual is there evidence that the venezuelan government is actively trying to arrest quite oh well last year the government told that if he left the country he would be arrested and since then he's gone on at least 2 international tours which include a visit here to washington d.c. we saw earlier this year now there were a lot of questions about what was going to happen when he got back to venezuela however he arrived in the country without incident now why do i sense laid low as the country responds to the coronavirus but the government has not forgotten about him and venezuela's foreign minister called
5:11 pm
a fugitive from venezuelan justice he then went on to say mr goh idea was indebted to the justice system and the venezuelan people so the public ministry and the judiciary will take the actions it has to to take according to its good judgment but at the same time we have to remember the troubling ministration has threatened the venezuelan government that if it targets were they will receive a very harsh response from washington and when they talk about their response they often use the phrase all options are on the table and he's got quite the bodyguard there the u.s. has warned venezuela and iran against working with each other what's the latest with that friendship right will iran and venezuela are known as 2 of the countries that are being hit the hardest by u.s. sanctions right now and washington has even come out and threaten more sanctions and even use of force if they continue to work together however that hasn't stopped them working together so far now despite the threats that the u.s. was considering said. troops to interfere see iran sent 5 tankers carrying more
5:12 pm
than $45000000.00 worth of gasoline and supplies to venezuela and they arrived without incident last weekend now it is expected the partnership between iran and venezuela is going to continue so not just remains to be seen what the u.s. is going to do is it going to stick to just the harsh rhetoric or is it actually going to use its military to try to intervene apparently all options are on the table richard levins thank you so much for that update thank you. and the saturday marks the anniversary of d.-day on the beaches of normandy but unlike the previous years this one is going to be very different because france is still dealing with the corona virus the pandemic is expected to keep government leaders away and of course the elderly frail veterans from visiting the site and seeing their fellow comrades on june 6th 194-415-6000 american british and canadian forces landed on beaches to retake france from the nazi invasion. and back here

did 19 continues to spread worldwide numbers continuing to grow cases now topping 6700000 with 393000 reported deaths the u.s. still leading the way with the most confirmed cases followed by presumed russia taking a closer look at this country there are now some 1800000 cases and 108000 deaths and over in florida the state is reporting a spike and coronavirus cases as the state enters phase 2 of its reopening raising concerns about whether this is the start of another wave of infections as the sunshine state and the rest of the country try to get back to some sense of normalcy this as florida governor ronda santas is floating out the idea of hosting the republican national convention in his state party correspondent john how do you is joining us live from miami so john what's the latest there. but let's start with what governor of the center this is saying you know he's basically saying that.
5:18 pm
florida would be open to the option of hosting and see in august depending on the prevalence of the coronavirus here in the in the state and basically what the what the virus is doing what the infection rates are the hospitalization rates all of that so on that note let's talk about what you just talked about in the intro this spike in the number of cases so the florida department of health is reporting that right now and this number has obviously been going up there more than 61000 cases of. throughout the state with more than 1400 cases being reported thursday alone that's the highest spike in cases in infection since march when really it started getting bad here in florida and the 3rd day this week that the state's daily total of new cases surpassed one thing. 1000 so far there's been more than 2600 reported deaths attributed to cove and 19 and more than 10000 hospitalizations statewide but
5:19 pm
here's the thing state health officials are attributing the increase to more testing being done the increase in testing and the option and the ability for people to get the test done and not necessarily an increasing infection rate that's because while the overall number of positive cases has spiked the past couple days the overall percentage of positive kovan 1000 tests out of all the results being reported has actually declined over the same period of time as the state tests more people so as far as the number of tests being done if you look at the numbers more than 1100000 people so far statewide have been tested for coronavirus of that number 61000 have tested positive but one that 1073400 $52.00 have tested negative with an overall positivity rate of 5.4 percent out of
5:20 pm
that number when you look at the overall population of florida close to $22000000.00 that's a relatively low number and overall the trajectory since april has really been going down with the exception of this recent spike because of the more testing in the number of tests coming in and i can tell you this i'm one of the people who's been tested basically anybody and everybody who wants to get a test can get a test done whether it's going to the med ride the urgent care centers or whether it's going through the miami dade county or the city of miami you can get get the coven 1000 test or the antibody test on i tested for both both you know fortunately for me negative that said you mentioned this in the intro as well flo started phase 2 of its reopening plans today with bars and restaurants allowed to operate with a greater capacity meaning more people retail stores and gyms are allowed to be open at full capacity and personal services like tattoo parlors and spa. cars are allowed to partially open now here's the thing the city of miami and i did on miami dade county are doing the slower phase one started last week face 2 is supposed to
5:21 pm
start on monday here in miami that's because the overall number of cases the highest number of cases of coded 1000 have been in south florida and particularly here in miami and miami dade county which is reported the most cases close to 20000 total cases thus far you know behind me one of the restaurants here american social this is a bar restaurant this is actually the 1st time i've seen that many people sitting here at the restaurant up until this point it's been takeout delivery orders only sell things are definitely changing beaches were supposed to open on monday but as i reported yesterday because of the ongoing curfews due to the ongoing protests resulting to the drug resulting from the george floyd death and the nationwide protests as long as the curfew remains in effect here in miami dade county the mayor of miami dade county county parliamentarism police officials say beaches will
5:22 pm
remain closed so that will likely continue miller going into the weekend and perhaps next week as well will have to wait and see who will have to wait and see also what the protests are going to look like here in the city of miami going into the weekend it's supposed to be a washout were expecting some heavy rain this weekend but look things are getting back to some as you talked about some semblance of normalcy i can tell you this bars you know the restaurants are reopening malls are reopening big mall around the corner has reopened that started last week and the businesses are being proactive in order to go into this business businesses you have to wear a face mask i had my hair cut yesterday the 1st time in a couple months i'm not going to say how long but before i even went into the salon you have to be wearing a face mask you go in take your temperature you sanitize your hands and then everything is clean thoroughly so some. or at least what's being called the mill about to absolutely important thing is you stay healthy get your hair cut john
5:23 pm
hattie thank you so much for that their report you. are right a demonstration in mexico turned gruesome the video you're about to see is extremely disturbing on thursday protestors poured some flammable liquid on a police officer and then lit him on fire this happened outside of the government palace and got a lot of other officers were able to come to his rescue thankfully protesters were demonstrating after police they were arrested and allegedly beat a 30 year old man for not wearing some protective face mask during the pandemic that me and later died of brain injuries. and the medical journal lance set retracted a large study that raised concerns about. the reason they cite potential flaws in the research data the initial study found thousands of coded 1000 patients who took the drug had a higher mortality rate and increased risk for heart problems the result of the study led several governments to ban the use of the anti-malaria drug despite
