my. mom as the country reopens there's an increase in coal but 19 cases is there a balance between economics and health to be found a member of tom's economic team is here to respond on this edition. dick it. wasn't a politicking on larry king as the country has gradually reopened there's been an increase of cold in 1000 cases in more than 20 states where's the balance for the average american stephen moore member of president trumps economic task force co-author of trungpa nomics inside the american 1st plan to revive the american economy stephen thanks for joining us today where i would you describe
9:01 pm
the stated he economy right now. well it's pretty poor i mean there's no question that we've done serious severe damage to the american economy through the shutdown . businesses and putting so many millions of americans tens of millions of americans out of work so it's sad to me because i really felt like going into 2020 in the 1st month or 2 of 2020 we had one of the best economies on 30 year or something with lowest unemployment rate low inflation wages recruit gaining and it looked like it was a good and we were in for a lot lot of prosperity and now we've we've just really been sacked so hard by this by this virus and of course the protests and riots have been a problem for the economy i do think we're going to get out of this larry but i think it's going to it's going to be as a law and slow travel a lot of this i think by the end of the year hopefully will happen on employment
9:02 pm
rate less than 10 percent right now the real unemployment rates probably closer to 15 to 20 percent as the president reacts to sloan too late. you know when you when you say slow to the virus do you mean yeah the virus. well i think that the president i'm not an expert i'm going to help expert but i do think that the most important and we will shut down the porters checking out where we do a lot of the case were coming in and that was very controversial at the time i think that saved a lot of lives some an intense and very thing we did to slowly it looks like we shut down the travel from europe to slowly although when donald trump did that he was white the criticized as being as you know flow and so on for shutting down the border. i think that what we need to really look at not some of the mistakes that were made. why was the c.d.c. not more prepared for us for a virus like this
9:03 pm
a why was the $98.00 sent our you know we spend over a trillion dollars a year on health care i don't i'm kind of upset that we didn't have more safeguards to deal with this kind of a virus that comes across you know we run into these things every 20 years or so and the government was very unprepared how does a president's mood he's proud he's trailing in the polls what once is a moon like i haven't seen a president late in 2 or 3 months because of the government 1000 situation and you know he's been relatively sequester but you know donald trump's always an up upbeat guy i happen to think that he's got to perform better and i'm a big fan of his but i think he's got to bring the country together right now in this time of division and i think he has to. meet very straightforward with the american people about what we're doing with the with respect to coronavirus what steps we're taking to try to not one campaign but resend if the ultimately defeat
9:04 pm
it but also i think that you know things like what happened last week with the with the oklahoma with this with this rally and our i think that was ill advised i think he's got to speak directly the american people not just his supporters but all the people calm people down so much we're going to get through this that were can weigh we we face challenges and we win and so i'd like to see him speak more to not just the supporters but all of the american people 'd. do you personally wear a mask when you go out. i don't wear a mask when i go outside if i'm out outdoors i do not wear a mask when i am indoors a fight we go to a restaurant or a store or some kind of place i do wear a mask that's my own personal policy i believe by the way larry that one of the things we've done that's been a state especially for parents out there to keep your kids indoors is
9:05 pm
a big mistake it's terrible for kids healthy it's terrible for their mood their learning experience so get people getting people outside and that look social distancing is support but don't keep your kids like to my house i think we get up for way to a lot and that's enough for repercussions should the president that he's the points of he support sending americans another round of stimulus check you agree. now so it should be some more shots yeah not one i support very kudlow supports the steep works of for instance the lapper supports that is the suspending the payroll tax for the rest of the year or for every american employer every american worker including me and you know we would get a 15 percent rate of 7 and a half percent reduction in our payroll costs it's arms of how much this withheld from our paychecks or every worker would get
9:06 pm
a 70 percent raise including minimum wage workers who are pretty employer which they are somehow percent reduction in their payroll costs we think this would create millions of jobs for the rest of the year we have to larry get our economy up and running we have to get people out of unemployment and indeed jobs and one thing i very strongly oppose 'd is this policy of paint people more money for not working not working i think that is a disaster i do think we should give people support if they lose their jobs but it is not there are people working hard for 40 hours a week to be paid less than people who are unemployed and then the congressional budget office now says the more than 3 out of 4 workers are going to get paid more money for staying not employed and going back to work that's a problem in think the president is going to has china for reparations for kovan 19 . i hope he does i think he will i think china is the big villain here i think china was deceptive and misleading to not just united states but the rest of the
9:07 pm
world i think china acted incredibly responsibly i don't think that this was intentional in other words i don't think that they i don't think the plot by china but there is no question that they tap ik i'm not just the u.s. economy but the world a part of me larry and de should pay a price for that and i think they should pay you know i don't know if it's to be on $100000000.00 or $200000000000.00 but they've done trillions of dollars of damage to our economy and i think they should pay a price and what about the thought that the european union is going to block americans from coming there well i mean i think a lot of that is just the kind of you know play out. but we've done a pretty good job not a great shot but we've done a pretty good job of containing coronavirus look the most important thing to understand the cad lines every day in the newspapers is not being reported by the
9:08 pm
media that has this this is the most important thing to understand about providers we have reduced the death rate from corona about iris from the all time high which was i think in late april mental late april that rate has really reduced i mean 90 percent let me say that again we reduce the number of deaths on a daily basis i 90 percent that is an incredible achievement we are winning the war against coronavirus we're not losing that we have workplaces obviously because we're doing millions and millions of costs. well when the president says we cut back on the testing that will help when he was kid the i think he was kidding. i don't know i think he says he was getting and i think you know he certainly should not accept that because testing is import we need to you know when i came into my office so i could do this interview with you larry the 1st thing we do is take the temperature to make sure that the person is that does not have to have iris and is
9:09 pm
not is not going to make other people sex so i do i think we should all use very safe procedures in terms of getting back to work and i also think larry this my own opinion not. that everyone should make their own decisions we don't need governors to tell 'd us what we can and cannot do people can make their own decisions about when it's safer that is go back to school when it's safe to go back to work when a safe to go into stores people have different different risk thresholds however you're a little bit older than i am i'm 60 but you're in you know you're more susceptible to coronavirus receive me than i am because you're older i'm older than my 12 i mean i had more susceptible at rest in my 25 year old son so we have to take those kinds of things into consideration we have to be smart about this. ok. the racial inequities in america have come to the forefront how do you think we're handling that. wow that's a tough question i'm
9:10 pm
a sadist larry i believe that. yet there is no country in the world that has. you know i have something policy when young people think america is the most racist country in the world we are not the most racist i really sincerely we are the least racist country i'm not saying we don't have racial pops in this country we do it there are racial injustice but you know the rate of improvement in terms of economic performance so black americans and hispanics americans and asian americans has been phenomenal over the last 50 years there is more economic opportunity here for minorities than anywhere else in the world that's the reason why every you know and every country in the world minorities boxes fanatics asians want to come to the united states because they know this is a land of opportunity and i think we make a mistake when we keep talking about racism racism racism and not dealing with the issues that really do i think negatively impact black americans in
9:11 pm
a bigger way for example the the terrible inner city schools in this country and forcing you know black parents to send their kids to abysmal schools if we could do something about the school crisis through school choice and letting you know low income black americans have a same choice that you and i as you know wealthier americans who are white do i think that would solve a lot of the problems for for blacks and improve their lives and their living standards considerably but the concern over police mortality is honestly correct in that. probably how i mean i'm not an expert on this is outside matter of expertise i would say this that there are a lot of bad cops in the united states no question about it and i'm up there i've been 1st away the victim of. police abuse so i know that this is a problem in america but also there are a lot of great cops made that we need them for our protection of our society yeah
9:12 pm
we need to do a better job of wording good cops getting rid of bad cops more was stephen moore right after this. america pretty much just doesn't do what it says it does. make cars the computers don't make computers they say they're doing all they're doing is they're gaming the system by getting a free pass from the fed if you're part of the privileged class. paydays for the executives. i think the biggest danger. to destroy us is its us highlighted issue. and i think one of the 6 education of the. changes access to the internet for educational purposes
9:13 pm
needs to be. and truly. need to be. heard from the regular more you know more your car. wash ashore psyche all those lucifer this. is not my achievement mr davis are a 5 year plans were conceived. and carried out by the people themselves if they would produce or even floor it with the idea of making a film like this probably be branded as crazy. now is the sentiment. that the
9:14 pm
soviets were brave resisting. that's going to change of course after the war once the cold war begins. people think that hollywood is a free place with is strictly. the business and the other side is ideology. how would i define ali is they call it the dream manufacture which i think true but i think equally it's a problem in the fact. secret prisons are not usually what comes to mind when thinking about europe however he even the most prosperous can be deceived we've been busy roads own the world to view the houses were allowed to leave prison was located and the only safe people had access to the story to investigators she held the uncovered the darkest
9:15 pm
dealings of the secret services but i mean they graded nor been talked on nonsense they could use some sort of p.c. maybe a sore knee for. crying for justice on oxy. welcome back politicking talking with stephen moore of the president's economic advisory team again what's going to happen in november. i don't i don't want folks to win the election and i know but right now that's not where the betting odds are but i think donald trump is in a went by basically telling the american people i read american economy or before i can do it yeah i'm the one who is going to bring jobs back to america i'm going to i'm going to fight against china now fight against you know the or open border crowd so make sure that we're going to come in this country illegally you know about it lately and i believe and want to america we're all people and what americans want is safety they what economic prosperity of most are the kinds of
9:16 pm
things that thomas welcome and we're not. well we have to do great in the debate. and well the question of course now is by that there will be debates but i you know i was and did not going to deny it yeah i guess so and by the way i would love to see us as the moderator of one of those debates but it was always there. you would be fair here that's why i love doing your socks are the tools we have for today so question about it the question about joe biden's you know mental capacity is a big issue right now for the couple 3 trump is going to have to make the case that the american people that he cares about and that he is. going to take every step possible to rebuild our economy and on the fact of way and know it so they will be important abates no question about it that i think they should debate as often as possible i think wait now they're talking about 3 events when they used to in the
9:17 pm
other argument again i'm advisors going to get back together with the president and it's not certain yet i mean they're still you know concerned about coronavirus and i thought the president you know maybe once a month or once every 2 months he you know he's almost always in good spirits when i when i talk to him he has a very specific plan in mind for the country you know i always find him to be upbeat and positive about america i think that matters a lot. stephen always great talking with us today well ok thank you thank you larry you to talk to sit in the house judiciary committee is presently investigating white house influence over the justice department one of the learned won't change anything with this president we're talking about that with our friend republican former congressman bill mccollum of florida who also served as attorney general of
9:18 pm
that great state he joins me from florida what do you make of the damning testimony today that about in a variance with the d.o.j. by the government what do you make of that bill well i think that it's something we have to take seriously when somebody makes an accusation like that alliance great confidence is the far i knew him when he was with president bush is that. clear that i think he is a fine attorney general and there are so. right now do we hear is response again late good july which is scheduled for the same. you think the donald trump understands oversight do you think he truly understands that the justice department is separate from the white house where he is understanding of things larry is probably a little different than yours i think is he goes a lot out of his hip pocket but the person who wouldn't step over the line in my opinion is bill barr so i really don't think that boarded anything that he did so
9:19 pm
what to do here and i think the believe was the right i have no idea what the president may have asked or communicated at any given moment you said it was of course in the room but i haven't heard anything more than you have but i just don't see that knowing the man knowing bill baroni is gritty i would be very shocked if they think came of this. concerning the race relations in this country we've always had a problem with it do you why do you think it's greater now do you think it goes back to the floyd killing. but of course part of war and killing the very brutally all of us in the country rusted and were appalled at clearly there was some something go on there and one would have to conclude there was bias there was animists there was some reason for that that awful and i think that there's been a long term build up of suspicion in the african community about a police job although i found his attorney general by state and where i sort of the crimes of the shared purpose of yours in crime rates that most american policeman
9:20 pm
across this country share it is an unfair but generally very honorable i don't believe there are racially motivated what they do but i think we've got a lot of issues out there right now one of them larry is that among the young african-americans who have come along since the days of the civil rights movement in the sixty's and become educated and got into the workplace find themselves in an uncomfortable settings by virtue of people who can things that are implicit bias that they don't even realize that they've said something. on syria action bilton done john bolton's book. but i think john bolton is a pretty precise guy he has an insight he has a bias john or at least is thought he's the right he knows the best and he's correct i've known him a long time and offered a great movie that looks very political coming out what it is i guess is somewhere
9:21 pm
right out and it would later but you know there's probably a lot of truth in that book bill given they have taken covert cases in florida how do you know how's a govern a handling this i think is the good job of it he is letting each jurisdiction each county each city make a decision if there's a tick significant in their area if there were to be a sufficient hospitalization issue to say in the county of miami and there were a lockdown it would occur probably only in that county or that city so i think that's the right approach you've got the panhandle you've got other parts of florida that are much different and not having the city so i think we need our economy to grow back where it came out and we need to take this at a pace to acquit so the cover likes to do the job a trump seems to be taking a pains from the nixon campaign in 1968 is laura noida you think that's going toward farm i think that the public generally does not appreciate some of the
9:22 pm
extremes that have happened the protesters find their perfectly normal but looting and the shooting weeks ago now this past week the number of shootings that many of our cities like is just of where it should be so we need laws or we need to get back to that and i think in the suburbs in particular in places rivers in and out of this republic as a bits and he's lost a lot of the past i think that's probably put very well where it will november who knows there's a long way away the election do you agree that the word order may be different for blacks them for a whites in this country. well it may be appear to be truthful if you go and talk to a black mother who's lost a child in a shooting in the city of chicago and i've done that in the past you will have a very strong response in favor of or so on with this person the african-american
9:23 pm
community you're talking to most of us realize that law and order is in order to have a free society and without a free society we're going to racial justice is a simple as that if there's really thinking or law most are going to recognize i think the current issue has more to do with the history of police stopping and many american community feeling that there's been too many killings of black and white police officers and too much unprovoked stuff shouldn't because they are suspicious of the black community than they do others think that that's generally been a problem and continues to be that so on the other hand there is a lot of crime in the urban areas of among young black males that has not stopped it's a problem with gangs it's the gangs the big bomb it was like in this 13 but also a lot of street gangs they get into and often it's black on black crime and it's
9:24 pm
murder death means that i think most will in that community fully appreciate as a problem a problem that they need or nascar has banned the confederate flag and its events do you agree i do i think a lot of symbolism that's been relegated to the confederacy in the past needs to i mean this point in our history it should come down before now i don't believe in tearing down all the statues in the country it took it you know andrew jackson statue the other day up at the capitol i in washington i can't i can't see it that way too far. marini and i think it is that a bit of the national monuments. the rich are veterans of the war is. excusable but with respect to symbols like the economy who is being weighed around the screen
9:25 pm
as i think that was a wise decision i've known jim france of the france family and more time and that's their decision and i know bill france a long time too he's a he's a good guy ok melle of you and a betting man who's going to win in november. a civil to see what's going to happen in november right now you know i have a bias and i would bet a truck at the end of that i think that would vice president biden gets out he's going to show a lot of weakness in the debates and that got a foot or more of the real issues voter turnout it always is the ship is that is there certainly there are 2 sides right now and the issue is the voters are in the critical precincts in pennsylvania north carolina and michigan with florida are they going to go how are they going to feel because they do not a lot of voters there do not personally like president trump is a lot of quote is that many of us don't agree with they're going to have to sit back and decide between that option and what comes with
9:26 pm
a new democrat that's much more inclined to go to the radical left nationwide political polling doesn't make sense in a country where you have individual states county in other words new york and california they don't count me election it's pennsylvania wisconsin right that's right is president you wisconsin michigan north carolina florida those are a few of the street you clear and there are arizona you can't do it trump one last time he can't afford to lose much of anything he's probably not going to win virginia bill as always thanks for your time today great talking with you good talking to you too ari. and we'll apologize to some of the connections with bill we got the gist of everything and thank you audience for joining me on this edition of politicking our member you can join the conversation on my facebook page and treat me at king's things don't forget use the politicking hash tag and that's all this
9:27 pm
edition of politicking. nuclear power plants have become a battleground in the u.s. in vermont people are demanding the shut down of a local plant from mike yankee is right now my focus because it's a very dangerous oh no clare power plant the owner is attempting to run the reactive beyond its operational limit this case just sort of puts a magnifying glass on where's the power in this country where is it going is it moving more towards corporate interests who or is it more in the idea of a traditional participatory democracy as powerline with the people this case demonstrates that struggle in very real ways our struggle on r.t.
