so i gave the sex offender who was not even which addresses were put on the other story this is simply an issue of. male sexual predators for the large part of whoever is there whether that's men or women. hello there i'm an electric and you're watching in question broadcasting from our to america's national news headquarters in washington d.c. here tonight's top stories 1st portland oregon police launched here gas on a crowd of protesters calling them rioters meantime hong kong police used water cannons to disperse so-called democracy protesters similar movements with very different labels we're going to discuss that plus a deal has been reached to settle 2 sexual misconduct lawsuits against the hollywood mogul harvey weinstein a full report coming up then should there be more flight regulations as most
5:01 pm
airlines move full speed ahead during this pandemic we're going to discuss that and more coming up all right it's time to include your view. today the chinese government has begun to scrutinize american media in their country outlets such as the associated press c.b.s. n.p.r. and the united press international have just one week to disclose details of their operations who works there their financials and a numerous bunch of other demands as a tit for tat in what the chinese government calls suppression of chinese media and some of that is due in part to the unrest in hong kong and how western media is covering it calling them pro-democracy demonstrations meanwhile back at home american media labeling b.l.m. protests riots so joining us to explore the press angle of all of this post. news
5:02 pm
with rick sanchez so rick is it a case that he who controls the narrative controls the outcome. well to a certain extent it is and you know the chinese government may have a point in their criticism that's not to say everything the chinese government does is correct they certainly are without fault but you know something is really interesting is going on when we do this dichotomy this tale of 2 protests right because when we woke up this morning the 1st thing we realize or been protest in 2 places in the world major protests in hong kong major protests also in seattle partly in portland oregon the way they were covered though and the way the stories were told was very different let's start with hong kong take a look at some of this video from hong kong now as you know these things have been going on for quite some time you original protests in hong kong were over an extradition bill were china was pushing to possibly extradite people who live in
5:03 pm
hong kong back to the mainland that resulted in protests as a result of the protests hong kong decided to pull the bill but the protests somehow continued and china kept finding out that there were western forces that were predominating in these protests and as you mentioned earlier they're called pro democracy protests pro democracy protests now that's an interesting use of words when you consider the following. peter go ahead and put me back on camera if you would because i want to explain something here that i think is very noteworthy and it's this there is something called the freedom index the freedom index decides according to the cato institute a conservative think tank which are the freest or most democratic places in the entire earth i'm going to show i'm going to share that list with you and it's going to surprise you especially when you consider that the people who are protesting in hong kong are called pro democracy protesters right while. would they be protesting
5:04 pm
for democracy if they live in the place that ranks right now number 3 as the most free the most democratic on earth i'll read you the list i just wrote it down because i want to share it with you new zealand is number one for us places on earth according to the cato institute switzerland is number 2 hong kong is number 3 then canada australia denmark the u.k. comes in at 14 the united states comes in at 15 so the forces inside our country and places like the u.k. and other western countries are accusing the protestors in hong kong of not being free and yesterday when that situation broke out in hong kong i counted this morning at least 54 different news sources newspapers or networks all over the world that were covering the story let's switch it around now something also happened at the same time last night in portland the coverage was minuscule comparatively in fact let's look at that video here's portland last night.
5:05 pm
what you're seeing there are protesters who had originally been downtown and then sometime around 11 pm portland time they moved to another part of downtown the police said you're not supposed to be here and police started pushing them back they resisted now that situation is being called a riot around 4 am last night the mayor of portland oregon beclouded a state of emergency so whether we find fault in the police or the protesters regardless of which side you may sit on here as to who did what to whom what you have are 2 different protests in 2 different parts of the world both of them treated very differ. really as well as far as we can tell both inside the politics
5:06 pm
of the united states and within the media that we would call the western or more corporate media and it's these are the kinds of things that i think are important to point out because in the end all we're saying is if nothing else they should both at least be covered in the same vein they worked back to you yeah absolutely right i mean i think the one thing we can glean from all of this video footage is that whoever is in power anywhere is not really into the people or the streets speaking up. well you know it's interesting because right now the protesters in hong kong are doing against what is a rule that the chinese government has a style which were there essentially saying what they don't want and this is all the rule says they don't want succession they don't want subversion they don't want terrorism yeah that's what it's against what does that mean you know i don't know
5:07 pm
we've heard words like terrorism bantered about and you sometimes flimsily but nonetheless that's what they're saying and they own own kong as $197.00 so it's a tough argument on both sides and you by the way you could also argue that the police have a right to push back against the people in this place where they were protesting where they failed to respond to the fully police command so sure there's many ways to look at this the bottom line is going to lie think there does seem to be a characterization of one protesters as being good and these protesters are the as the they're not being covered or about which is which and who gets to decide while i guess we leave it up to the viewers to rick to figure out figure it out themselves. and we'll leave it right there our friend rick sanchez thank you so much for weighing in thanks manilla good stuff pretty shit. at their news from across the nation a confederate statue. in richmond virginia now coming down that's what you're
5:08 pm
seeing there in fact the city mayor ordered the immediate removal of all u.s. confederate statues on city land today work crews used heavy equipment to remove confederate general stonewall jackson this as there was a crowd of onlookers there were some minor clashes among protesters too. and to the latest coded 19 numbers worldwide cases now topping 10500000 and 512000 reported deaths the top 3 countries with the most cases the u.s. still leading the way followed by brazil and russia here stateside 2600000 cases with 127000 reported deaths. and other news making headlines today the u.s. has purchased 90 percent of the world's supply from does appear that's the deal struck between gilliatt sciences to supply more than 500000 treatment courses to the u.s. until september does appear if you remember is the only drug so far proven as
5:09 pm
treatment for coke at 19 and reportedly speeds up recovery time for infected people . and right here in the nation's capital the senate reached a last minute deal to extend the paycheck protection program to early august just hours before the program was due to expire the federal loan program to help small business is also extended for an additional 5 weeks with more than $130000000000.00 in loan money left on spent the legislation now heads to the house which will also be adjourning later this week. check this out if you are looking for stress relief maybe you could do the trick like in bangladesh more than $700.00 police officers are taking part in yoga as you can see there the officers are social distancing they're wearing masks they're stretching and even running in place at times they've been on the front line of enforcing that country's lockdown with more than $10000.00 of their officers testing positive for coated. 3
5:10 pm
months after harvey weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault now another potential victory for the disgraced movie moguls victims artie's farrah fronsac reports. the man who gave rise to the need to have met harvey weinstein and his former studio's board have reached a nearly $19000000.00 settlement with 9 of his accusers in a class action lawsuit this settlement is for any woman who was used by harvey weinstein she need not have come forth for she need not tell her story in a crowded. weinstein who was sentenced to 23 years for rape still does not admit any wrongdoing and won't be paying the accusers himself rather insurance companies for a studio that recently filed for bankruptcy the settlement if approved also results also will cases against weinstein including one filed by the new york's attorney general who says quote after all the harassment threats and discrimination these survivors are finally receiving some justice it's a very very positive thing to come out of an incredibly complicated situation
5:11 pm
and it has the potential to really make a difference. a lot of women and women that were harmed by harvey weinstein attorneys who represent some of weinstein's accusers in lawsuits say the proposed settlement is a complete sell out of the weinstein survivors calling it deeply unfair saying it does not require weinstein to accept any responsibility and doesn't require him to pay money towards it they also say the director defendants will receive millions of dollars to reimburse their defense costs however those who settled the agreement that's nearly 2 years in the making say it brings victims some sort of justice there will never be enough money to compensate survivors of harvey weinstein's. but what we do you know today is that we secured justice for these men 68 year old weinstein was diagnosed back in march with corona virus just days after he was moved to new york's. maximum security correctional facility near buffalo to begin
5:12 pm
serving his 23 year prison sentence the district court and a bankruptcy court need to sign off on this deal which is set to be signed july 14th where women have 90 days to come forward. i'm here in front of a. great question for you should there be more flight regulations as the airlines move full speed ahead during this pandemic we're going to discuss that then over in sports regina hampshire is how one sport that's getting a jump on its call preparation there you go you might guess we're going to show you that remember make sure you keep up with all the latest news and anything you might have missed by downloading our brand new free app portable t.v. you can watch there 24 seventh's we'll be right back. i like it when the hosts get questions with them actually listens to the yes

5:15 pm
a new report from the government issued on boeing's embattled 737 max jets confirms what most of us already knew the company suppressed information on changes to their end cast software and didn't submit certain documents to regulators now the m cas was to blame for the 2 deadly crashes of ethiopian and lion air which killed everybody on board now the d.-o. t. went on to note that boeing presented the new software as just tweaks to a previously approved system all this as the max attempts recertification this week to get back up in the air so joining us to discuss all things aviation former n.t.s.b. official jamie finch jamie good to see you it has been a while but now that things seem to be back up in the air we're talking about this so the grounded max took to the skies in a test flight yesterday after more than
5:16 pm
a year being grounded how do you think this week's recertification flights are going to shake out. well it's a little early to tell but it's is a step in the right direction for boeing in the $737.00 max research education obviously and maybe some redemption or for f.a.a. and boeing through this debacle we're going through right now as far as what happened in the original certification so you know this is one of many flights and tests that are going to happen it's going to be the most tested plane of all time before this is all over and you think it will be safer to fly on these that other planes maybe. i think they're going to go through this thing with so many factors going to it's not going to be funny i mean they're going to be looking and it's is highly is there is a king and. in also i think it's going to be looking at other any other aircraft that boeing it's a few years so as the $71.00 you know the troubles are 7 x.
5:17 pm
that's about 3 miles just either cross-reference of problems that existed between the 2 aircraft and what the stereotype report was there anything new in there that we the public didn't already know from all those lyrics those previous investigations and what have you anything stood out to you. nothing really stood out as far as you know being shocking. into it we didn't really know what they're expecting the report but what was so shocking this sort of these were going to be it was never want to see it in print and it's pretty stark and good to go through the list like it and if a this report is not with recommendations it's just going to report. their findings report finding out what what happened what was there well what were they misled and you see were. lied to believe misled his or
5:18 pm
their way through this entire process and were them to be so manipulative of the the process and the system that in the rules is is just unacceptable that any well yeah certainly all their dirty laundry was laid to bare in this report. let's talk about the future of flying jamie that commercial carriers they've been hurt obviously really bad by this pandemic i imagine they are anxious to make ends meet again now that folks are seemingly less afraid of coronavirus and flying more and more now to that end are they rushing to fill faith to capacity putting the public health at risk. because they were going for at least those 2 mindsets going on here there's the there's the safety we've got to be very careful on making sure that we lived on a cool and we were coming back in 2 together. and there's the we've got to make
5:19 pm
money or we're not which exists i'm going to make money or a program for my family so there's there's there's a compromise somewhere in the middle there. and you know there's there's been a lot of confusion between the airlines because. the some of the airlines like american and united they're opening up the seats you have full capacity. now. delta row on the other hand there are keeping their their middle seats were 60 percent. percent of capacity that's it for the main job and it's up to her and the jet blue in july so it's there's something consistent but they have to they haven't done one thing to sicily which is that the airlines have all come together they're going to strictly enforce the wear your mask on the airplane. and it's a big issue recently i think we're going to see more and more public is probably not working. presented to people it's or it's what i've observed it what
5:20 pm
transportation lines going to be like because they're wondering instead they can make a decision on their own from the piece that we're putting together to see is are they comfortable with it or not yet while staying on that note jamie you already brought up a lot of the points i mean each of these independent carriers have their own rules their own regulations about who can board their planes they can implement passenger mask rules like you know like businesses on the ground who post those signs you know that say no shoes no shirt no service but is it time for the f.a.a. or for the federal government to step in and implement some basic guidelines during this pandemic as wolken municipalities have done for businesses on the ground as they began phase reopening. i believe that whatever you have multiple places or multiple authorities telling you different things in different rules etc and this confusion it only adds to the confusion and the
5:21 pm
frustration and people just start stop a story more of the rules they stop they become very frustrated that they they don't believe there's a problem and that you know self-defeating but there so. if the f.a.a. needs to step up in a give the airlines the airlines have them take the lead ok if you're not going to do it we'll do it ourselves and so. but maybe that he should be something that's more like the. recent consistency in that we have to come from. the right time to put more pressure on the f.a.a. on yet another subject jamie bench always good to have you thank you my friend. sure thank you. all right even amid the global pandemic space x. is launching now more than ever with its latest rockets blasting up this week as part of its 1st mission for the new us space force here's our to correspondent john
5:22 pm
hardy with the rest of that story. because. it. goes back a bit here and away goes the space x. falcon 9 rocket blasting off this week from cape canaveral florida and carrying with it the new g.p.s. 3 series satellite system up into orbit the launch was the 1st by space x. for the u.s. space force which was established back in december the g.p.s. 3 satellite is the 3rd in a new line of upgraded g.p.s. navigation satellite technology it's set to enter service in plain east slot 4 of the u.s. is g.p.s. constellation in space a position currently occupied according to space x. by a g.p.s. satellite launched way back in may 2000 well the new g.p.s. 3 provides more accurate navigation signals and a longer design lifetime of 15 years while also being compatible with japan's quads i seen it satellite system and europe's galileo network speaking of europe european
5:23 pm
commissioner teary proton told reuters that the e.u. is budgeting billions of euros for space missions including new technology to launch rockets and an agreement with a commercial satellite launch company aryan space saying quote space is one of europe's strong points and we're giving ourselves the means to speed up space x. has redefined the standards for launchers. so aryan 6 is a necessary step but not the old we must start thinking now about aryan 7 spacex launched its 9th batch of 60 satellites in june as part of its starling broadband network and of course who could forget the may 30th launch of nasa astronauts bob behnken and doug hurley aboard the space x. dragon spacecraft it was a historic mission heralding a new age of space exploration and collaboration between the public and private sectors and a new era of global space competition for r.t.

john hardy. and today israel's plans to annex parts of the west bank were met by several 1000 palestinians marching in gaza city for a day of rage the protesters waved palestinian flags and held signs calling the annexation proposal and desperation of war on the palestinian people despite such large turnout there were actually no reported injuries or breakouts of violence. and back here stateside f.c.c. officially designated wall way and as national security threats those tech companies will not be allowed to use the $8300000000.00 in a government subsidy program known as the universal service fund to purchase any equipment or services from the 2 chinese telecom giants nor to maintain or support them now while wait and see t. both deny claims made against them. partly due to hands over the sports h.q. working out for some sports it's never too early to start getting ready for the

5:26 pm
a mets agreed to buy out the remaining $5900000.00 on vinny his contract however instead of paying him that money at all they agreed to pay an annual increment of $1200000.00 for 25 years starting on july 1st 2000 the lavin due to his deal the $57.00 will be paid every year until 2035 will be 72 years old the nia played his last game for the mets in 1909 and last played in the majors in 2001 for the st louis cardinals the 3rd baseman a right fielder also had a 2nd deferred contract with the orioles for a payment of $500000.00 a year for 25 years those payments started 2004 but for those asking how does he even happen the message ownership at the time held by fred wilpon invested in a bernie madoff account that promised massive double digit returns but that did not work out and now the mets are paying good more than current 1st man pete alonzo if the wild when you read the details of that manila the fact that bernie madoff is
5:27 pm
tied to baseball and you have this guy who's 57 he's been out of the game for a while and he still just getting paychecks every single year i know i mean seriously if i would argue that that's is probably the best contract in m. and b. history because you don't have to go to practice you don't have to injure yourself at nothing you're just sitting there collecting millions exactly and you know especially if you're 57 you've already earned enough money when you played in the league after houses paid off. probably put kids through college if you have any so what do you do that maybe he's buying some yachts and private islands or right at our birth 300000000 from 30 yet or sit at home and elect to mill year that home i'll take that home i'll take home the right answer all right thank you for that regina what will be back with a lot more news at 7 pm once again the media is getting the public worked up on unverified evidence they say of russia's government actions against u.s. soldiers in afghanistan we're going to discuss that and things heat up and cut back us with that as well and president nicolas maduro expulsion of the european union's

ambassador are going to talk about that at 7 so stick around i mean el chance i'll see you back here at 7 get portable t.v. . the young who want to experience the they want to know where this is headed and they're doing the my hands are one i still believe going to get rid of what they don't want rapidly and they're putting themselves together they're working very slowly this pandemic is making them be even more careful they will continue to be careful and they made sure in at least a decade or new a generation more solid partnerships. the primary purpose of history is to understand the past as a guide to understanding the present and future history should not be deemed as feeling just because a lot of history is facing a change so how should we find the right is the true sign the life.
5:29 pm
i don't know crap. no shots. actually felt. right no it's to. switch your thirst for action. all these people press away and there's a lot more of this wall so people who have lost their life so early to edition yeah this is from akron we're just not going to treat our way out of this epidemic
5:30 pm
and the only way we're going to eradicate it is through education and prevention and stop the kids from using because we have seen people go through programs 10 to 12 different times and go to treatment and just never get it and end up dying tog masseur is a form a drug addict who now heads a private rehab center when. all the guy's been working on this themselves so the one guy up here he was a house monitor at new destiny treatment center and they found him literally dead like this ending up dead a guy appearing his girlfriend they were found in their apartment that they'd just gotten. cuddled up and they were dead for like 3 days holding each other.
