a beating again 20182019 were marred with protests and demonstrations from teachers parents and local leaders teachers strikes during that period where the largest the nation has ever seen from chicago to l.a. in virginia to georgia teachers protested over pay the need for smaller classroom sizes more special education teachers counselors and other commonsense needs and by the looks of it 2020 is launching more teacher advocacy the los angeles teachers union recently released a white paper outlining new calls to action the demands range from defunding the police placing a moratorium on charter schools increasing funding from the local state and federal government as well as a wealth tax the white paper entitled the same storm but different boat is gaining traction because it outlines the way vulnerable children and communities are continually under-served and how coping one team continues to lift the veil on systemic racism today teachers principals superintendents local school councils and

parents are fighting the white house and united states department of education secretary betty to bus over the safety of students returning to school with out a plan during the pandemic there's always room for one more class alone in the car for the trumpet ministration and folks in walk through divide us. schools should do what's right on the ground at that time for their students and for their situation there is no one uniform approach that we can take or should take nationwide. president trump is tweeting and yelling at anyone who will listen that it's time for students to return to school he's even threatening to cut school funding if they aren't reopened as if schools are already struggling financially trump dismissed the centers for disease control and prevention guidelines calling them quote very tough and expensive which he said ask schools to do impractical things

impractical things mr president like what social distancing reducing classroom size to stop the spread providing better cleanest and say material measures what is impractical about that. absolutely nothing if we actually cared about the youth of america but you know i'm just what we have is if we actually care about the children and their schooling or at least cared about the ones who are giving their money to private schools and but you know we care about kids in public schools that then you would see action but i don't i don't really think they do you know the i don't think there's a there is there might be lip service of our own but at the end of the care you're absolutely right again this goes back to politicians having priorities in word but in action not so much. somebody who never should have been department of education secretary she doesn't have a background in education she's not someone who's ever served in any education capacity as a principal as a superintendent as any type of school leader as a teacher nothing assistant teacher somebody who volunteered in

a classroom to go on down the list she's never had the experience but she is someone who is wrote big checks to charter schools and we've seen over and over her you know need for privatization of schools but there's something else that is an undercurrent here when it comes to the priorities because as you know there are several acts that were designed from the federal level to give more money to public schools the cares act the heroes act being among them those were never fully funded so k. $12.00 education is lacking a lot of funding from the federal level the local level and the state level and right now estimates show that it would take up to $500000000000.00 in allocation just for the special education needs of students to be met alone right now you know they're asking for $500000000000.00 they're not even getting 1000000000 wow it's amazing too because as you said you know you always hear you know politicians running whether federal or state talking about education and that's what they run on the campaign trail more money to education all that stuff but it's amazing when you look at the actual percentage of members of schools who are being funded

absolutely 87 percent of schools in america are not funded adequately at the state level and that means that where where do you pick up that huge shortfall in the budget at the local level and they do that by property taxes and if you're. somebody who grows up in an impoverished or poor community or community where there are more runners than there are homeowners your schools don't have that funding those property tax dollars are a lot lower and that helps to set the standard between schools that are in wealthier areas or upper middle class areas versus those that are largely under-served underprivileged or areas that are black and brown and the free market is going to change because as we talked about on this show as you've talked about most lenders aren't given out home loans to folks who live in that area to begin with the so they're being go there is no that's not going to change anytime soon unless people get together as a community through the government or through the elected politicians that we that we lead to aware of these things and want to change these things for real that's the only way we're going to see that change absolutely so it's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy but you know who is still funded

a very high levels regardless of being in black and brown impoverished communities and the police. these school districts particularly we touch on l.a. but as they are looking to push towards a lot of the deep on the police narrative because they're seeing how many billions are thrown to policing districts at the behest of these school districts that are begging for dollars for basic things technology books that are up to date they're begging for it you know that these that they have around $1000.00 we're talking reducing classroom sizes you can only do that if you have a space that is the bailable for you to have enough classrooms for reducing from 2535 students to 12 and many places just don't you know it's really incredible to me when you talk about the l.a. teachers exist one of the if not the biggest teachers' union in the country and the fact that they're saying hey we're onboard to fund the police the park they introduce like hey we want to wealth tax like that that is speaks volumes about where teachers are at you know obviously one union doesn't represent everybody but

the biggest union saying this is where we stand that's a pretty big statement exactly and their white paper to its credit goes to great pains to talk about and point to research as to why you know they deep on the police movement needs to be taken seriously. what these things could go towards in terms of more special education funding in terms of more teachers aid and assistance particularly looking at counsellors because what you need to recognise is that a lot of people are dying during kobe 900 and there are young people who are still going to school after the loss of their parents grandparents violence in certain communities homelessness homelessness is a huge problem in l.a. a lot of those kids come to school and they don't have a home to go back to so they're also looking towards relief for that that's incredible i mean more power to the teachers union for standing firm and saying no this is what we want and i hope that sets a precedent for other unions across the country to say hey look at what they're asking it's not pile in the sky it's actually what would potentially work to revitalize our public school educators absolutely and with the protest movement i think that they just might be able to break through the noise so all right

in this election bill you've been a big big advocate against those accusations that were made during the russia gate fiasco what do you make of these latest calls from the left and others of potential russian interference in the 2020 election. again and even their alleged interference in the 2016 election was was put into courts in the terms of the rosenstein indictment and at least one of the people they called trolls for the russian government who was you know trying to interfere in the election they came over and sent their lawyers in saying we are not in any way connected with the russian government this was the internet research agency out of st petersburg russia and so the government had to prove that and they failed they couldn't have they had no proof and so the judge really gave it to them say you were never to mention this it's people it's true because you can't prove anything and that's exactly what the entire rosenstein and you will report on the case they knew that we had forensic evidence it's pretty good most likely was artist cia but it was an
