9:30 pm
you see things like voter suppression building or prison you see gerrymandering all sorts of democratic iraq this is well in the world or well it's. a question that the. greetings and salyut ation all right let's start this party off with a bang with one of the most important news stories currently taking place in these united states of america i'm talking of course about the trumpet administration's deployment of armed fatigue clad teams of unidentified federal agents to major u.s.
9:31 pm
cities like portland and chicago under the guise of protecting federal property these agents have snatched u.s. citizens off the streets in the dead of night never used blunt force trauma chemical weapons upon mothers fathers and military veterans for simply exercising their right of freedom of speech and assembly and tragically it appears that the checks and balances that normally prevent one branch of the u.s. government from taking actions like these do not seem to be working at all on friday u.s. district judge michael mosley mn should strike down or going to turn a general allen rosenblum request for a temporary restraining order against the federal forces operating in her capital city according to judge muslin the state failed to show that it even has the standing to bring the case forward ruling that the suit involves allegations of harm done to protesters by law enforcement but no protester is
9:32 pm
a plaintiff here. and it is not seeking redress for any harm that has been done to protesters instead it seeks an injunction against future conduct which is also an extraordinary form of relief in other words my friends too bad state of oregon you don't get to protect your citizens from their government today. but the twisting of legal leaders to justify criminality in the by a lation of rights is not new to the american experience just ask all those poor souls who suffered torture sorry enhanced interrogation in guantanamo bay and the cia black sites all around the world under the bush administration in fact the white house the trump white house has apparently dug up and dusted off mr torture memo himself the one and only john yoo the guardian reports that the trumpet ministration has been consulting the former government lawyer who wrote the legal justification for waterboarding on how the president might try to rule by decree.
9:33 pm
the deployment of secret federal agents to cities across this country is not quasi fascism or authoritarian like my friends no it is fascism and it is authoritarian and that is why we must always be watching the hawks. in a city streets. that are so quick to see that as this. state . great city displays systemic deceptions please show which i would so please feel. welcome to the watching. a world with. boyle boy image a lot has happened since we last did a live show and i think the biggest news story is this you know these these i guess
9:34 pm
of homeland security agents of the most bunch of other top partment of justice agents showing up in cities like portman now chicago seattle and essentially just operating without any regard for due process or any regard for our basic rights and privileges that we have in this country it sounds so un-american yet it is the american as you could possibly get yes that is what we're seeing right now. is a massive amount of federal intervention into something take warning for instance that the federal government should never really been a part up because i think we talked about this earlier graffiti on buildings is not something that the federal government actually comes in for we have a president who's watching his poll numbers take who is watching consistently what appears even in swing states where he had the upper hand just a few months ago because of his response to comit 19 that steadily dwindling and he has seen and noted that the law and order message actually works in america when
9:35 pm
you create somebody or something for people to fear they become this rally around the flag type of group and i think that trump is taking advantage of that to the utmost in using these federal forces and making it seem like these cities are so chaotic so out of control that the only person in the only entity that can help save them and bring them back is the federal government is the top administration and what's ridiculous is we're seeing in the footage here in this is from portland what's ridiculous is is the protesters didn't care about the federal building until they put a fence around it until the feds showed up and started to tear gassing people until the feds sort of show up and snatching folks off the streets in the middle of the night for as you know for basically doing their protesting doing their 1st i'm practicing their 1st amendment right it's also interesting to note that the department of homeland security is in its own bit of hot water because look according to experts chad wolf the acting acting secretary of homeland security he's never been confirmed by the senate or congress and he is actually in violation of the federal bacon sees reform act the act clearly states that i'm acting
9:36 pm
official can only serve for 210 days he's now held the seat for 200 close to 250 maybe over 250 days he does and i mean can he even be legally his decision making has to be now a question because he can't even legally make a decision according to the law he should be out because the top administration has created so many laws and acts like they don't exist because he has 85 percent appointee. nonna point great when it comes to all of the people who are acting in this administration this one is a breaking news story just because of the acts of homeland security right now but we're going to see you know in the coming days should he extend this should he turn it into something that's more permanent i highly doubt it because the president has touted time and time again he loves his acting people but on that same token it's very hard for him in some cases to get certain people approved because not only that they come through or not necessarily have the experience they needed but also have some very interesting side note conversations be it whether they are all to racists be aware that they're anti-semitic there are
9:37 pm
a lot of things that have you know where his swim be appointees would have been extremely problematic and then i'm going you see images like this you know to me this is. this is a direct result of troops federal agents you know we're not we're you know without insignias grabbing that this is a direct result of that you know and so you're ramping that up and it's good it was it was amazing to see people kind of step up when you saw people out with tennis rackets batting you know tear gas back at them you saw people coming in. you know in the protests with with leaf blowers blowing you know gas about you know it's amazing seeing the response to this kind of thing but at the end of the day this isn't this isn't cities like i think you pointed out really these are cities that are out of control because they're already out of control these are cities becoming out of control because of the presence of the feds when you come in and you are being as a lawless as you possibly can you're not you know abiding by human rights you're not abiding by these people civil rights they're not getting due process you are
9:38 pm
treating them however you feel and then they're disappearing these are individuals who are many times getting locked up they're not being able to call family friends they're not being able to even call their attorneys so we're watching something happen right now that honestly people who are in the protest to begin with this is what they were protesting the whole thing about police brutality and the failures of our criminal justice system from beginning to end in all things in between then you see the federal government come in and basically do all of those. things at once and where is my libertarian brothers and sisters where is all those folks who said all we don't want to press the government and the 2nd amendment folks who say well we've got to stand up to a present government this is exactly what oppressive government is you cannot change that you cannot deny that this is what it's not it's not like authoritarianism as i said this is authoritarianism you can't it can't be any more clearer than this and what you're seeing in these images right now across workers across the country. code 19 cases are on the rise businesses are shutting down again schools parents and elected leaders are
9:39 pm
wrangling with the health risk associated with in class instruction and sending kids back to school yet many americans still seem to be ignoring some of the most basic coronavirus precautions like wearing a mask and social distancing. granted us president donald trump went around for months refusing to wear face masks as he visits factories who state campaign events attended roundtables and supported his favorite republican state leaders he even shouted out his support for armed men and women protesting against mass mandates and social distancing but my how the tables have turned and by tables i mean trump's reelection poll numbers his approval rating is taking a nosedive and in head to head match ups in swing states trump is trailing his democratic rival were vice president joe biden as of late trump has started to wear the mask for public facing the vents but photos and videos emerged of him at private fundraisers without a face covering and it looks like many americans are doing the very same thing despite there being massive mandates to enter stores restaurants and bars and
9:40 pm
several states people are defiant and hefty fines like washington d.c. is 1000 dollars for not wearing a mask are popping up across the country some states and localities even tried to take a much harsher route like indiana where governor eric holcomb wanted to make wearing a mask a class b. misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail 6 months so much more renewed commitment to criminal justice reform lucky for indiana residents members of their own party publicly questioned in criticize the complies ation of not wearing a mask as excessive punishment republican sheriffs even refused to enforce the mandate and with mounting pressure from fellow republicans hope to walk back his push for jail time where's the wearing a mask is an important covert 19 preventative measure do these types of mandates and fines go too far. it's hard to say i think maybe right now but i mean down the
9:41 pm
line i hate to say there's word down the line if things really keep spiraling out of control when it comes to covert then you have to look at that however criminalizing mask wearing is not it's one thing for you know a city or state to say. we need you to wear this it's criminalizing it's a whole other thing because as you and i both know i'm sure they won't be out there busting folks in georgetown or in manhattan for not wearing their mass properly they're going to go into poor communities and they're going to go into communities that can't afford to pay excessive fines or communities are already been thrown in jail numerous time for idiotic your crimes that's why they're going to go and you're absolutely correct and this is the exact same thing that happened with social distancing mandates before the before the reopening because in places like chicago new york even d.c. what we saw was a lot of patrolling going on in african-american and latino communities meanwhile if you go to the wider sides of town those neighborhoods were also throwing parties they were also not social distancing they were not wearing masks and there was no penalty for them so what we see consistently is that those fines and fees that jail
9:42 pm
time it happens for minorities it's not something that's equally applied across the board no no and it's mere reminds me a lie that's the biggest fear with this kind of thing is the i don't think we should criminalize not wearing masks depending on what the situation maybe is if it's like look like if you go in there without the mask on puts many many lives in danger maybe there's an argument to be made for criminalization of not wearing it in a specific instance maybe there's an argument i don't know but yeah to me this feels a lot like you know the enforcement would be like stop and frisk in new york you know nobody's stopping and frisking to find people carrying drugs or paraphernalia on wall street but they're doing it all day down in harlem and. it's just absolutely because you know do you believe should jail time to be used as a turn for about wearing a mask is that excessive absolutely not jail time should not be used and i would argue that jail time shouldn't be used as a deterrent or anything really what we're seeing in this country is this idea and we've seen it for now going on for decades where the strategy has been in order to
9:43 pm
you know funnel money to counties money funnel money to local government let's just lock people up because they look at it as a sense of this keeps a certain industry. employee and it's pressure rating because it does not do anything we know that it doesn't deter behavior it never has and it's not something that only works besides that there is something else to be said about there being a social strategy to getting people to wear masks we talked about for years there being a a me generation well we're seeing a whole me country we are the only nation on the globe that seems to not understand or not care about why we're in facemask is important because we're very you know individualistic that you i think you hit the nail on the head with that one that's but what's been one of the biggest problems we we had that american exceptionalism thing so codify in our brain that everything that we do is right nothing we do is wrong and we deserve the you know we deserve this the now this is what happens when
9:44 pm
you kind of raise a generation of generation now i think the younger generations jonesy more that i think a lot of them are getting it they've lived through enough and you know 911 financial crashes everything else to say let's just be safe but it's convincing the older generations we're not going to go with a president who only malware is a mask because it's politically convenient absolutely when you have the head of your nation deciding that this is all a hoax that he doesn't have to do this that c.d.c. guidelines throw them all to the wind i'm going to do whatever i want you can expect the nation not to follow suit he is someone who has to take responsibility for basically being the example for the nation and he's just kind of fallen short of that i couldn't agree more and a lot of other leaders will fall short of that i mean look we need to we need to wear a mask at the end of the day where the mask be safe you know we're both tested we both know we're clean but when you're out there be safe wear the mask it doesn't hurt anybody it doesn't you know wearing a mask to a supermarket and back doesn't hurt you it prevents people from getting sick and i just wish people would put all their lives outside of their own ahead of themselves
9:45 pm
. looks like we may be waiting for that for a very long time tragically all right because we caught a pretty good member that you can also start watching the hawks on demand through the brand new portable t.v. app which is available on all platforms you cannot avoid it you definitely need to download it coming up author and educator b. watkins joins us to discuss a overseas class back of him sexism in the language of abuse in congress and then we ring the bell on the reopening of u.s. schools under cobra stay tuned to watch. this thing is that when you have to have money printers in charge the act of printing all that paper money to hang around eyes themselves really fills their head with dreams of it's fiat's of primacy that's the ultimate form of supremacy is
9:46 pm
i print therefore i am and if you can pull the levers of political power with their fear of money if you can acquire assets with their feet that money it gives you that god complex that we have so much of around the world and countries and big corporations and now it's all going to come crashing down. on the sunday make no certainly no borders just to nationalities. you. know so much we don't talk with you we don't look like seeing the whole world needs to be. judged as coming every crisis what is the sentence in modern times we can do better and we should. everyone is contributing each in our own way but we also know that this crisis will
9:47 pm
not go on. every challenge is for you to respond. so many good people are helping us. it makes us feel very proud that we are in it together. toxic masculinity is something women are faced with every single day and if you're a woman of color the barrage of hate attacks and abuse rarely even raises eyebrows among onlookers or those entrusted to protecting america got a front row seat to this level of unmitigated male rage when congresswoman alexandria kazuo cortez was accosted on the steps of the u.s. capitol her colleague republican congressman ted yoho of florida called her crazy
9:48 pm
out of her mind dangerous and after following her a few more steps shouted the b word if you're wondering what that is i can't say it on t.v. after you know who gave a half hearted non apology declaring his wife and daughters reasons why he couldn't be by want more aggressive towards women i'll see gave the women's empowerment speech for the ages laying bare why men like yoho are dangerous how prevalent toxic regularity is in our society and what women particularly women of color are faced with even when they sit in seats of power. i'll see not only schooled yoho in her speech but every man who has ever attempted to diminish or devalue women and while we're on the topic of schooling it seems like public education in the area of code it is getting a bit more complicated some school districts are opting to remain virtual for the next few months others are offering back to school continue to plans with differing
9:49 pm
hours and class sizes and still others are doing a hybrid model where depending on what grade your child is in he or she will receive in class instruction where other kids typically older kids would not data shows most kids don't become seriously ill as adults from covert 19 but the bird to still out on whether or not they are super spreaders of the virus a large study in south korea found that children under the age of 10 don't appear to transmit the virus well that study is being echoed by america's brigham and women's hospital in boston joining us now to discuss these hot topics is d. walk ins editor at large for salon dot com welcome. we're always good thank you for joining us. will be toxic masculinity is a term that most men seem to get a little skittish about but honestly we see case after case similar to represent you know who is a tax on a o c man accosting women is
9:50 pm
a daily occurrence of the sun rising and setting what can we do to decrease these instances of male aggression and why do you think they're so prevalent. i think. men need to just cause other men i hope like even before you hold gate that terrible of policy because he wasn't sorry about what he said he was sorry that he got caught he was sorry the other people knew it and no one would have talked about it if it didn't become news then he probably know what the gate that sorry. i don't even want to call it an apology because the particulars it you just sitting here say oh no other broader other wife would do it so i can't be this way after you just barely were this way is horrible so i think maybe the car other men know it should just be a go see who gave a brilliant beautiful response so what happened with it she should be home it should be every man in congress every every politician every pundit and all of the
9:51 pm
people who have the power going to tell of this it about this issue should be calling him about it calling other people who do to same thing because it's not just of the women is something all of us to fight these battles and that comes from a man who has a wife and has a baby daughter so i'm going to trust your word on that the. big school leaders parents elected officials are trying desperately to figure out how to reopen schools safely new research is emerging showing that younger children might not be as susceptible to cope with 19 or spread as much as older kids do you think this isn't enough for parents to feel safer for kids to feel safe going back to school potentially this fall. absolutely not because even though this research stating it children may not spread the virus as much as adults you need a thought in school or at a school so the adults are going to be affected it's out there and maybe even passing it 5 years on to children who could potentially pass it on to their parents
9:52 pm
as a person who you know education changed my life education means everything to me i am a professor for that was that the chip that you know let everybody knows how i feel about school and how we need it. right now this is a terrible time in america this needs to own cause we need to just figure out how to play catch up next year because it's just it's just not worth it the numbers are going to go up even more this is going to be a bad decision we're going to we're going to regret it. i think about some very powerful especially coming from someone who has worked in schools so i'm going to follow up a little bit on what you just said do you think schools can feasibly follow the c.d.c. recommendations we all know what they are social distancing that requires you to decrease class size it requires them to change you know the regular go to cafeteria time decrease the amount of students who are in the hallways passing for any classes also use regular people in class cleanliness and things like that and other

tactics to reduce the spread of cohabit our schools acquit to even attempt this in a matter of only a few days since a lot of this country's schools would start would return and all these. best estimates that question i've been to over 350 schools in the past 5 years and schools with money can probably pull it off but the book the schools i want to camp look at how you're going to have social distance classes so where are these schools were failing before code we had when they were going to school the head 40 students in a class before cold that were acting like up into some of these schools i want to i want outspokenness knew about the city and i wanted to the bathroom you can was a hole in the wall we're students was using the bathroom in a war we're starting so it's like they have a big door but it was supposed to be don't you fork over it now this supposed to have all these none of this money these resources to create these places where people will say this is a joke this is only going to be
9:54 pm
a problem this is going to be this is going to go down there's already own big at the forefront of some of that because disasters since he became president that this is going to be the icing on the cake this is this might be the one that could turn . whatever is left of his legacy for ever you know i couldn't agree there more because i mean to me the big that's what everyone misses when you see these articles in usa today or time magazine or all these other talking about kids going back to school you can see that slant they're only talking about kids whose parents got a little money or kids whose ghouls are really well because they have a high income bracket and they sit in that tax bracket they're not talking about the school many other schools across the nation that don't have the money to do this look distance learning has proven to be a failure for many students particularly those with special needs younger younger children and those with disabilities how can schools keep these students safe when it's paramount that they be in a classroom like how do we balance that and bring it back home. we need to pause we
9:55 pm
need to just stop like we need to stop trying to open it so i let the bugs were already sort of the whole phenomena restaurants and just let the numbers went up so many restaurants and people exposed to the virus they all closed the can we need to stop people need to mask distance they need to follow the rules leaders who are promoted these rules you gazans are really you know jailing people for mad when best don't you know the people who gel the leaders who are making is serious money so they mask available to everybody if we follow the rules and i'm not even an expert in science but i know enough about viruses that know. that the transfer of different people they die follow the rules 23 maybe 4 months at most is they can be done if people follow the rules but they aren't and they try to open it and it's going to do anything and as a result people are getting sick and people are down and do you got to say thank
