11:30 am
in chicago under the guise of protecting federal property these agents have snatched us citizens off the streets in the dead of night and have used blunt force trauma and chemical weapons upon mothers fathers and military veterans for simply exercising their right of freedom of speech and assembly and tragically it appears that the checks and balances that normally prevent one branch of the u.s. government from taking actions like these do not seem to be working at all on friday u.s. district judge michael mosley mn should strike down or going to turn a general allen rosenblum request for a temporary restraining order against the federal forces operating in her capital city according to judge mose when the state failed to show that it even has the standing to bring the case forward ruling that the suit involves allegations of harm done to protesters by law enforcement but no protester is a plaintiff here and it is not seeking redress for any harm that has been done to
11:31 am
protesters instead it seeks an injunction against future conduct which is also an extraordinary form of relief in other words my friends too bad state of oregon you don't get to protect your citizens from their government today. but the twisting of legal leaders to justify criminality in the by a lation of rights is not new to the american experience just ask all those poor souls who suffered torture sorry enhanced interrogation in guantanamo bay in those cia black sites all around the world under the bush administration in fact the white house the trump white house has apparently dug up and dusted off mr torture memo himself the one and only john yoo the guardian reports that the trump administration has been consulting the former government lawyer who wrote the legal justification for waterboarding on how the president might try to rule by decree.
11:32 am
the deployment of secret federal agents to cities across this country is not quasi fascism or authoritarian like my friends no it is fascism and it is authoritarian and that is why we must always be watching the us. what's going on a city street. there so let's see the crisis joyce state says. rice crazed city displays systemic deceptions leaks show which i will so you'll. welcome watching the entire world but for. oil boy image a lot has happened since we last did a live show and i think the biggest news story is this you know these these i guess of homeland security agents of the most bunch of other top partment of justice
11:33 am
agents showing up in cities like portman now chicago seattle and essentially just operating without any regard for due process or any regard for our basic rights and privileges that we have in this country it sounds so un-american yet it is the american as you could possibly get yes that is what we're seeing right now. is a massive amount of federal intervention into something take one for instance that the federal government should never really been a part of because i think we talked about this earlier graffiti on buildings is not something that the federal government actually comes in for we have a president who's watching his poll numbers take who is watching consistently what appears even in swing states where he had the upper hand just a few months ago because of his response to comit 19 that steadily dwindling and he is seen and noted that the law and order message actually works in america when you create somebody or something for people to fear they become this rally around the
11:34 am
flag type of group and i think that trump is taking advantage of that to the utmost in using these federal forces and making it seem like these cities are so chaotic so out of control that the only person in the only entity that can help save them and bring them back is the federal government is the top administration and what's ridiculous is we're seeing in the footage here i mean this is from portland what's ridiculous is is the protesters didn't care about the federal building until they put a fence around it until the feds showed up and started to tear gassing people until the feds sort of show up and snatching folks off the streets in the middle of the night for you know for basically doing their protesting doing their 1st i'm practicing their 1st amendment right it's also interesting the note that the of the department of homeland security is in its own bit of hot water because look according to experts chad wolf the acting acting secretary of homeland security he's never been confirmed by the senate or congress and he is actually in violation of the federal bacon sees reform act the act clearly states that the acting official can only serve for 210 days he's now held that seat for 200 close to 250
11:35 am
maybe over 250 days he does need i mean can he even be legally his decision making has to be now a question because he can't even legally make a decision according to the law he should be out because the child administration has created so many laws and acts like they don't exist because he has 85 percent appointee. nonna point great when it comes to all of the people who are acting in this administration this one is a breaking news story just because of the acts of homeland security right now but we're going to see you know in the coming days should he extend this should he turn it into something that's more permanent i highly doubt it because the president has touted time and time again he loves his acting people but on that same token it's very hard for him in some cases to get certain people approved because not only that they come through not necessarily have the experience they needed but also have said it there are a lot of things that have you know where his swill be appointees would have been extremely problematic and then i'm going you see images like this you know to me this is and. this is
11:36 am
a direct result of troops federal agents you know we're not we're you know without insignias grabbing that this is a direct result of that you know and so you're ramping that up and it's good it was it was amazing to see people kind of step up when you saw people out with tennis rackets batting you know tear gas back at them you saw people coming in. you know in the protests with with leaf blowers blowing you know gas but you know it's amazing seeing the response to this kind of thing but at the end of the bay this isn't this isn't cities like i think you pointed out really these are cities that are out of control because they're already out of control these are cities becoming out of control because of the presence of the feds when you come in and you are being as a lawless as you possibly can you're not you know abiding by human rights you're not abiding by these people civil rights they're not getting due process you are treating them however you feel and then they're disappearing these are individuals who are many times getting locked up they're not being able to call family friends they're not being able to even call their attorneys so we're watching something
11:37 am
happen right now that honestly people who are in the protest to begin with this is what they were protesting the whole thing about police brutality and the failures of our criminal justice system from beginning to end in all things in between then you see the federal government come in and basically do all of those things at once and where is my libertarian brothers and sisters whereas all those folks who said oh we don't. an oppressive government we in the 2nd amendment folks who say well we've got to stand up to a present government this is exactly what oppressive government is you cannot change that you cannot deny that this is what it's not it's not like authoritarianism as i said this is authoritarianism you can't it can't be any more clearer than this and what you're seeing in these images right now across workers across the country. code 19 cases are on the rise businesses are shutting down again schools parents and elected leaders are wrangling with the health risk associated with in class instruction and sending kids back to school yet many americans still seem to be ignoring some of the most basic coronavirus precautions like wearing
11:38 am
a mask and social distancing. granted us president donald trump went around for months refusing to wear face mask as he visits factories who state campaign events attended roundtables and supported his favorite republican state leaders he even shouted out his support for armed men and women protesting against mass mandates and social distancing but my how the tables have turned and by tables i mean trumps reelection poll numbers his approval rating is taking a nosedive and in head to head match ups in swing states trump is trailing his democratic rival the more vice president joe biden as of late trump has started to wear the mask for public facing the vents but photos and videos emerged of him at private fundraisers without a face covering and it looks like many americans are doing the very same thing despite there being massive mandates to enter stores restaurants and bars and several states people are defiant and hefty fines like washington d.c. is one $1000.00 for not wearing
11:39 am
a mask are popping up across the country some states and localities even tried to take a much harsher route like indiana where governor eric holcomb wanted to make wearing a mask a class b. misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail 6 months so much more renewed commitment to criminal justice reform lucky for indiana residents members of their own party publicly questioned in criticize the complies ation of not wearing a mask as excessive punishment republican sheriffs even refused to enforce the mandate and with mounting pressure from fellow republicans hopeful won't back his push for jail time where's the wearing a mask is an important covert 19 preventative measure do these types of mandates and fines go too far. it's hard to say i think maybe right now but i mean down the line i hate to say there's with down the line if things really keep spiraling out of control when it comes to covert then you have to look at that however criminalizing mask wearing is not it's one thing for you know
11:40 am
a city or state to see you. we need you to wear this it's criminalizing it's a whole other thing because as you and i both know i'm sure they won't be out there busting folks in georgetown or in manhattan for not wearing their mass properly they're going to go into poor communities and they're going to go into communities that can't afford to pay excessive fines or communities are already been thrown in jail numerous time for idiotic your crimes that's where they're going to go and you're absolutely correct and this is the exact same thing that happened with social distancing mandates before in the book before the reopening because in places like chicago new york even d.c. what we saw was a lot of patrolling going on in african-american and latino communities meanwhile if you go to the wider sides of town those neighborhoods were also throwing parties they were also not social distancing they were not wearing masks and there was no penalty for them so what we see consistently is that those fines and fees that jail time it happens for minorities it's not something that's equally applied across the board no no and it's mere reminds me
11:41 am
a lie that's the biggest fear with this kind of thing is the i don't think we should criminalize not wearing masks depending on what the situation maybe is if it's like look like if you go in there without the mask on puts many many lives in danger maybe there's an argument to be made for criminalization of not wearing it in a specific instance maybe there's an argument i don't know but yeah to me this feels a lot like you know the enforcement would be like stop and frisk in new york you know nobody's stopping and frisking to find people carrying drugs or paraphernalia on wall street or what they're doing down in harlem and. it's just absolutely you know do you believe should jail time be used as a turn for about wearing a mask is that excessive absolutely not jail time should not be used and i would argue that jail time shouldn't be used as a deterrent or anything really what we're seeing in this country is this idea and we've seen it more now going on for decades where the strategy has been in order to you know funnel money to counties money funnel money to local government let's just lock people up because they look at it as a sense of this keeps
11:42 am
a certain industry. employee and it's pressure rating because it does not do anything we know that it doesn't deter behavior it never has and it's not something that only works besides that there is something else to be said about there being a social strategy to getting people to wear masks we talked about for years there being a a me generation well we're seeing a whole me country we are the only nation on the globe that seems to not understand or not care about why wearing face mask is important because we're very you know individualistic that you i think you hit the nail on the head with that one that's but that's been one of the biggest problems we had that american exceptionalism thing so codify it in our brain that everything that we do is right nothing we do is wrong and we deserve the you know we deserve this the now this is what happens when you kind of raise a generation of generation now i think the younger generations jonesy more that i think a lot of them are getting it they've lived through enough from you know 911 financial crashes everything else to say let's just be safe but it's convincing the older
11:43 am
generations we're not going to go with a president who only malware as a mask because it's politically convenient absolutely when you have the head of your nation deciding that this is all a hoax that he doesn't have to do this that c.d.c. guidelines throw them all to the wind i'm going to do whatever i want you can expect the nation not to follow suit he is someone who has to take responsibility for basically being the example for the nation and he's just kind of fallen short of that i couldn't agree more and a lot of other leaders will fall short of that i mean look we need to we need to wear a mask at the end of the day wear the mask be safe you know we're both tested we both know we're clean but when you're out there be safe wear the mask it doesn't hurt anybody it doesn't you know wearing a mask to a supermarket and back doesn't hurt you it prevents people from getting sick and i just wish people would put all their lives outside of their own ahead of themselves . looks like we may be waiting for that for a very long time tragically all right because we caught a pretty good member that you can also start watching the hawks on demand through
11:44 am
the brand new portable t.v. app which is available on all platforms you cannot avoid it you definitely need to download it coming up author an educator watkins joins us to discuss a overseas class back again sexism in the language of abuse in congress and then we ring the bell of the reopening of u.s. schools under cobra state to watch all. of. the sudden fullest and illegal takeover of a government by a small group. rather than revolutionaries or soldiers in that small group the corporations when you have

11:46 am
we go to work. straight home. toxics met toxic masculinity is something women are faced with every single day and if you're a woman of color the barrage of hate attacks and abuse rarely even raises eyebrows among onlookers or those entrusted to protecting america got a front row seat to this level of unmitigated male rage when congresswoman alexandria kazuo cortez was accosted on the steps of the u.s. capitol her colleague republican congressman ted yoho of florida called her crazy out of her mind dangerous and after following her a few more steps shouted the
11:47 am
b word if you're wondering what that is i can't say it on t.v. . after yoho gave a half hearted non apology declaring his wife and daughters reasons why he couldn't be by looked more aggressive towards women i.o.c. gave the women's empowerment speech for the ages laying bare why men like yoho are dangerous how prevalent toxic masculinity is in our society and what women particularly women of color are faced with even when they sit in seats of power i'll see not only schooled yoho in her speech but every man who has ever attempted to diminish or devalue women. and while we're on the topic of schooling it seems like public education in the area of code it is getting a bit more complicated some school districts are opting to remain virtual for the next few months others are offering back to school continue to plans with differing hours and class sizes and still others are doing
11:48 am
a hybrid model where depending on what grade your child is in he or she will receive in class instruction where other kids typically older kids would not data shows most kids don't become seriously ill as adults from covert 19 but the bird to still out on whether or not they are super spreaders of the virus a large study in south korea found that children under the age of 10 don't appear to transmit the virus well that study is being echoed by america's brigham and women's hospital in boston joining us now to discuss these hot topics is the walk ins editor at large for salon dot com welcome. we're always good thank you for joining us. will be toxic masculinity is a term that most men seem to get a little skittish about but honestly we see case after case similar to represent you know who is a tax on a o c man accosting women is a daily occurrence as the sun rising and setting what can we do to decrease these
11:49 am
instances of male aggression and why do you think they're so prevalent. i think. men need to just call them and i hope like even before you hold gate that terrible of policy because he wasn't sorry about what he said he was sorry that he got caught he was sorry the other people knew it and no one going to talk about it it didn't become news did he probably know what the gate this sorry. i don't even want to call it an apology because it was particularly even just sitting here saying oh other broader dude i have a wife do it so i can't be this way after you just barely were this way is horrible so i think many because other men know it just be a go see who gave a brilliant beautiful response so what happened with it she should be home it should be every man in congress every every politician every pundit and all of the people who have the power going to tell of this it about this is you should be
11:50 am
calling him out calling other people who do to same thing because it's not just up the women it's up to all of us to fight these battles and that comes from a man who has a wife and has a baby daughter so i'm going to trust your word on that the. big school leaders parents elected officials are trying desperately to figure out how to reopen schools safely new research is emerging showing that younger children might not be as susceptible to cope with 19 or spread as much as older kids do you think this isn't enough for parents to feel safer for kids to feel safe going back to school potentially this fall. absolutely not because even though this research stating it children may not spread the virus as much as adults you need it in school or at a school so the adults are going to be affected it's out there and maybe even passing that box on to children who could potentially pass it on to their parents as a person who you know education changed my life education means everything to me i
11:51 am
am a professor for that was a teacher before that you know let everybody know how i feel about school and how we need it. right now this is a terrible time in america this needs to own cause we need to just figure out how to play catch up next year because it's just it's just not worth it the numbers are going to court even more this is going to be a bad decision we're going to we're going to regret it. i think about some very powerful especially coming from someone who has worked in schools so i'm going to follow up a little bit on what you just said do you think schools can feasibly follow the c.d.c. recommendations we all know what they are social distancing that requires you to decrease class size that requires them to change you know the regular go to cafeteria time decrease the amount of students who are in the hallways passing for any classes also use regular people in class cleanliness and things like that and other tactics to reduce the spread of cohabit our schools are quick to even attempt
11:52 am
this in a matter of only a few days since a lot of this country schools would start would return at all because. that's that's an amazing question i've been to over 350 schools in the past 5 years and schools with money can probably pull it off but the book the schools i want to camp of how are you going to have social distance classes so where are these schools were failing before code we had when they were going to school to head 40 students in a class before cold that we're acting like up into so many schools i want to i want outspokenness knew about the city and i wanted to the bathroom you can was a hole in the wall we're students was using the bathroom in a war where it starts to hit so it's like they have a big door but it was supposed to be don't you for kobe now this supposed to have all these none of this money these resources to create these places where people will say this is a joke this is only going to be a problem this is going to be this is going to go down there's already own
11:53 am
a big at the forefront of some of that because disasters since he became president that this is going to be the icing on the cake this is this might be the one that could turn. whatever is left of his legacy ever you know i couldn't agree there more because i mean to me the big that's what everyone misses when you see these articles in usa today or time magazine or all these other talking about kids going back to school you can see that slant they're only talking about kids whose parents got a little money or kids whose ghouls are really well because they have a high income bracket and they sit in that tax bracket they're not talking about the school many other schools across the nation that don't have the money to do this look distance learning has proven to be a failure for many students particularly those with special needs younger younger children and those with disabilities how can schools keep these students safe when it's paramount that they be in a classroom like how do we balance that and bring it back home. we need to pause we need to just stop like we need to stop trying to open it so i look at the bugs and
11:54 am
we're ready to hold a number of restaurants and just let the numbers went up so many restaurants have people exposed to the virus all closed to get we need to stop people need to mask distance they need to follow the rules leaders who are promoted these rules i really you know jailing people from out when beth don't jail the people who jail the leaders who are it is serious who aren't spending money so they mess about the books everybody if we follow the rules and i'm not even an expert in science but know enough about viruses that know that that transfer of the for people to a dot followed the hose to 3 maybe 4 bugs at most is they can't be done if people follow the rules but they aren't and they try to open it and it's going to do anything and as a result people are getting sick and people are down and do you got to say thank you so much and i got agree with you so much let's stop jaylen the people and start jaylen the leaders who failed the people i think that's
11:55 am
a great way to finish off our show today thank you so much of the walk ins editor at large salon dot thank you guys this. boy a boy and i liked. man jail the leaders who failed us not the people who absolutely i mean that was a great way to wrap that up love love that art everybody that is our show for you today remember everyone in this world we are definitely not told we love love so i tell you all i love you i am tyrone interrupt and i let me keep on watching all those hawks out there and have a great day and night everybody. donnie

welcome to our viewers from around the world of live from central london this is not a u.k. . the prime minister warns of an important 2nd wave of code 19 from europe a local code of infection spiked across northern england to get another town trying to avoid lockdown. for some good commutes use my broader continuation of the process. of the hour sitting down to secretly of course talk peace so when the bullets were used they don't believe you could get 6 of which is the most. the british treasury consider slapping on one businesses but they have to be levied to create a level playing field with a high street but the industry wants it just means higher prices for consumers are we talking to the c.e.o. of the partition independent retail association. the b.b.c.
12:01 pm
rules if we keep its own editorial guidelines in the document real protective kid children in the health service by not revealing the from the tickle background of one contributor we'll be hearing from a barrister. and also the son as a cat's becomes the 1st pets in britain to catch coronavirus to take a look at the risks and separate the fact from fiction. prime minister boris johnson has warned of a 2nd wave of corona virus from europe amid an ongoing right now of a quarantine in travel us from spain but that's a localized infection rates continue to rise across england as the northern town of black becomes the key coronavirus hotspot oldham brings in tougher restrictions to avoid a full lockdown or you can see saudi joins me now so he said the government is worried about imported cases. absolutely and you've seen this week the government imposing
12:02 pm
a number of restrictions on travelers returning to the united kingdom from spain including of course those measures to observe the 2 requirements in upon their return now that's obviously been opposed by people in spain in the spanish government also within the travel industry and it's led it's been led to fears that there might be a 2nd wave on the horizon on the consonance as a result of those rising figures of inspections now the government has also been giving warnings to business leaders here in the u.k. saying that should there not be a widespread observance of things like social distancing and other rules in the u.k. self could see a 2nd wave soon. i'm afraid you are starting to see in some places the signs of a 2nd wave of the pandemic and we all remember what happened last time it's absolutely vital that for that we make the necessary preparations here in the u.k.
12:03 pm
as we are doing vital that we all continue to observe the rules on social distancing washing our hands wearing mosques in in shops and on public transport and so on all of that being you know one meter with medications or 2 meters apart everybody knows what the the rules are that's how we'll help ourselves a but also it's it's vital that when people are coming back from abroad if they're coming back from a place where i'm afraid there is another outbreak they must go into into quarantine. now there have been polls carried out as to the government's handling of the lifting of lockdown measures and this poll revealing that 52 percent of respondents are skeptical that the government perhaps have lifted some of those measures too early and you've also seen 42 percent now people saying the government
12:04 pm
handled the crisis badly that's against 36 percent who think they've handled the crisis well you can trust that with the type of polling figures the government were getting at the beginning of this crisis and a definite shift in public opinion perhaps even dating back to the dominant cummings affair but we have seen if the government the british government is concerned about the potential of a 2nd wave on the continent of the potential of one here we have seen localized areas where such a thing has been taking place so blackburn for example continues to be the top spot with the highest infection rate of around $75.00 infections per 100000 lester's in 2nd place was of course the 1st city in england to go into localised lockdown oldham the rate is $48.00 infections per 100000 that's up from 11 just last week some more than 4 times
12:05 pm
a rise of more than 4 times and in him byrne and sandwell 39 percent 39 apologies cases per 100000 sand or 27.2 per 100000 these are smaller parts of england smaller areas yet they're seeing a rise in the numbers of cases there leading all to fears and that possibly while the government has been putting restrictions on travelers coming into the u.k. and maybe it's internally we should be looking and trying to damp down against any potential of a 2nd wave. thanks for that. one expert in emergency medicine dr vibe of there's plenty thinks that the spikes being driven by the public being complacent or sunnier clearly it's more like a continuation of the 1st we both are larger than seeing that the superhero started so in the 1st we use finish they don't live you can see it so it's
12:06 pm
a 2nd which is emerging i think it just a slowing down of the 1st really before he goes. public spikes it also might think and then are you actually certain that there could be this 2nd wave yeah i think so personally speaking i do strongly believe that considering the fact that the b.b. people are behaving like going to the beach is when the lockdown he's open the feel not fear and obviously we should not fear by the scene guy we should be. growing old not following the precautions which need to be maintained we have seen there are many times we use beaches if you simply on weekends so people think it's all but he's not what about the situation where you are in luton cases of almost half since last week so what has changed that yeah if we see there's only so when the person get exposed to the infection takes about one to 2 weeks to see the
12:07 pm
effect of it so what i believe is the last one we pick is this house by twice so that is because of. the loved one has been lifted up which has. we just student there in getting the count because the people are not following their the guidance as per their discussions which are how we look at many people in sound in the look only at this to like when they go to the public places at marketplaces in choc's not following the guidance as what we may be commanded. the u.k. treasury is reportedly considering a sales tax on all line businesses which have seen a boom during the pandemic and lock down while the government insists it's about creating a level playing field with the high street industry chiefs warn that any levy will simply be passed on to consumers r t k said it was dashed he has the story. well of course we already know the future is indeed online but the coronavirus lockdown pandemic has certainly accelerated
12:08 pm
all of that at the start of the pandemic the government's advice was to stay at home at that point nonessential retail shops on the high street were forced to close down doors and therefore that meant many consumers went online there we experienced a huge huge boom online and indeed home deliveries also skyrocketed however as these non-essential shops start to reopen on the high street open the door to the public they don't seem to be doing it too well at all and that's why now the government wants to try to level out the playing field with the online retailers and indeed the high street shops by introducing a proposing to introduce a brand new sales tax online now ultimately what that would be is quite a similar tax to value of property for the retailers that's where retail is a paying taxes based on the rental value of their property so it's trying to level out the playing field in that respect now according to the government just 2
12:09 pm
percent of tax could potentially up to 2000000000 pounds every single year but it is indeed raising concerns within the industry because that's already another burden on the already overtaxed industrial one that could ultimately hit consumers the hardest as big sellers may be hiking up their prices in stores now on a government level the chance to knock he said that this could provide a sustainable and meaningful source of revenue for the government as well as helping the bricks and mortar shops on the high streets however comments like that have really brought a lot of criticism in saying and suggesting that the government is really using this as a fundraiser to try and fit the bill that the treasury has been forking out for quite some time to try and mitigate the financial consequences of the 1000 pandemic on an individual level then many people are criticizing this scheme saying that it essentially will be punished. those disabled and those consumers that are
12:10 pm
housebound those i have no other choice but to shop online now earlier today i went out into the public to try and gauge their reaction it seems to be quite mixed so i want to see if there's an extra cost on internet shopping then it might make people go back to the high street which is needed at the moment now i don't think i don't think i can write stuff. i'm very proud one thing it will be in a way so i never have time to go to something. a little bit more online spending for perfume which is not the way to sell things might be if things were cheaper than the 3 people to go to so i shop a lot online so i don't see why i should pay extra for about i think the high street store in difficulty but they have been for a very long time and i think that they have found a way to come back online shopping and i don't know whether it's fair to be taxing the one sector of the economy that is actually booming in the pandemic so it seems kind of at 19 or not it looks like high streets have been shutting up shop for
12:11 pm
quite some time and a potential tax may not be enough to save the high street or indeed the treasury for more on all of this i'm not joined by the c.e.o. of the british independent retail association andrew andrew thank you very much for being with us now is this a fair tax because these online businesses don't have premises and yet they could be taxed to make it level with those who do. so i think the cost of doing business on the high street for a long time has been a real burden for for the traditional retailers and they've seen business drift online but of course the doing business with those operate to do so much less live in the playing field in this way is that is a statement i've often heard from other members of high street stores overseas who say we're already in trouble there before covered 19 that we need to support them rather than tax other businesses yes we do and. we've had support in terms of the fellow's game in terms of grounds well so shots have been closed and
12:12 pm
we would have liked to say maybe a changing of the 80 very as a as a given to the hospitality sector however that's not happened and what we are still seeing is a huge shift to among shopping i think now for non-food items 50 percent of all sales in june were online. now actively 15 years of previous growth of online shopping in the space of 3 months and so that the shift online it's seismic really and that's all because of that we address but short because of the pandemic isn't it yes it is whereas online used to be seen as easy to compare prices may be cheaper as a result it was seen as convenient as well it's now seen as safe and it's still a lot of consumers are very nervous about going shopping back to shops they even despite its addiction to face coverings so i can see why the online attraction is there and it will remain for sure a shopping habits change even when we come out
12:13 pm
a covert the habit will be fall and people will appreciate online shopping therefore saying what's going on line and we've $32.00 tax effectively being contributed by online businesses compared to your traditional retail is there has to be a solution where just be an instrument by wings by which means those businesses contribute more tax to the general economy fair enough you're being quite accepting in almost a fetus about the future basically all of the high street retain a very in line what's happening to online shopping but do you not have a strategy is not is that not a way to convince people to get back into the high street and start spending yes there is and the. i said i don't want to sound defeatist and my members would never forgive me for being that way. we have seen over the years we tell is be very agile very resilient and and we mean bent themselves to an extent and we see many of

helmand those combine successfully a stole with an online digital presence and that is the future really that they don't have to be substitutional it's about complementing and using digital technology to promote what you have available in your store and they need people to you in that way it may be done differently though it may be through clicking collective maybe doing through appointment only services but it is changing and we have to accept that change on the high street and that and ultimately there will be less retail on the high street but retail that survive if you'll be very good vito i'm just reading a headline right now that some large retailers report best sales more than a year after the easing of lockdown or strict restrictions as not looking too gloomy then i think put into context the best sales growth maybe more than a year and somebody tells a don't very well the essential business is that they continue to trade through lock down period many of our members are hardware stores and they've done very well is the non-essential businesses the fashion shops the shoe shops. still struggling
12:15 pm
it's hard work in those areas because if you would be take caution store people buy clothes and leave clothes to go on holidays to go to events like wedding parties. social events the horse racing and none of that's been available to them so there's a lot of market share that doesn't occur this year and so it's still very difficult so markets are benefiting not in others and if you look at the overall figure it's a false indicated because it includes the food sales and you need to look at non-food cells where the challenges really are andrew such authority thank you very much the 800 i.q. thank you. still to come this hour the b.b.c. covered 90 documentary investigating and that's the government findings in the health service. to. take a look at the risks and separate the facts from fiction. the
12:16 pm
thing is that when you have be out money printers in charge the act of printing all that paper money to hang around eyes themselves really fills their head with be out dreams of it's fiat's of primacy that's the ultimate form of supremacy is i print therefore i am and if you can pull the levers of political power with their fear of money if you can acquire assets with their feet of money it gives you that god complex that we have so much of around the world and countries and big corporations and now it's all going to come crashing down.
12:17 pm
we go to work. straight home. so what we've got to do is identify the threats that we have it's crazy going for indication let it be an arms race is on offense very dramatic development only closely and going to exist i don't see how that strategy will be successful very critical time time to sit down and talk. an internal b.b.c. review has ruled a documentary on shortages of protective kit in the health service during the
12:18 pm
covert 19 pandemic breached its own editorial guidelines 7 viewers complained about b.b.c. panoramas has the government failed the n.h.s. programme over the alleged left wing bias of its contributors the executive complaints unit found that one of the 6 dr sonja at a sarah simply introduces a doctor should have had her political affiliations explained she is a labor member and former party candidate in its own guidelines the b.b.c. states that it should raise awareness of its contributors affiliations funding and viewpoints when relevant the unit agreed that the nature and extent of the doctor's political connections might have been relevant but accepted that an early correction on b.b.c. news was sufficient response but it's not the 1st time the corporation has found itself in hot water of the background of its contributors according to a list compiled by blogger we dove forks guests presenters experts on science and cuba have also been revealed as left wing activists apparent gov appearing on its
12:19 pm
newsnight program was also found to be a labor campaigner while a staff nurse discussing the n.h.s. crisis on b.b.c. radio 5 live has appeared in a labor party broadcast well to discuss this matter further i'm joined by lawyer rebecca butler rebecca thanks for joining us now an internal review has found the b.b.c. broke its own rules and that's pretty damning isn't it. yes well it's another nail in the coffin for the b.b.c. as far as i'm concerned and it comes at a good time when the charter is being reviewed and the the issue of whether the license fee should continue to be criminalized is being reviewed so yet again the b.b.c. have shot themselves in the foot the question is when will they wake up and realise what they are doing to the reputation of b.b.c. on impartiality and bias but there's there's no issue with hearing from left wing
12:20 pm
views as it's actually all about making clear biases rather just introducing people as doctors and nurses indeed and you know if you can find an expert to say whatever you want you just have to look hard enough of there were particularly well qualified to speak on the subject to b.p. but they all felt personally qualified to criticise the government and what was really frustrating for somebody like me watching that program was that we had the b.b.c. especially has is very little britain attitude they only look within our borders you have to look globally at the p.p. issue to know that it's got nothing to do with our government the fact that there was no p.p. and it would have been more helpful for the b.b.c. to speak to somebody like dr ron daniels who's the chairman of the u.k. sepsis trust and it's somebody who fully understands people instead they troll up an expert who's going to have a fashion that the tory government because that is the b.b.c.
12:21 pm
editorial line in pretty much every program they put out and that is the problem that is to frustrate people have with the b.b.c. is the editorial line not be an individual contributors but one has to accept that everyone has a slightly political bias and that it or line don't they that must be a way for the b.b.c. to to mimic. this well yes under section 4 of the charter they are bound by the rules on impartiality and that's what distinguishes the b.b.c. say from our t.v. live because you can adopt your editorial policies and as long as they fall within or calm your in the clear so you have an independent ability to dictate your own terms of service the b.b.c. however has an overriding duty to the taxpayer namely the person who pays for it to be impartial and part of the impartiality balance is being open and honest
12:22 pm
about who the contributors are now in that particular program as i said earlier the contributors none of them were particularly well placed in the health service to discuss p.p. anyway you know the doctors were not senior doctors there was only one who was made up to a consultant by virtue of the coronavirus epidemic and that was it there was there was nobody's senior enough to really discuss what was going on in the world with the and where to be where the b.b.c. let's itself down is that it it never puts forward the alternative view and it never challenges its experts and says but how about what's happening in france why you criticizing the government when in fact a senate has a particular moment that's at fault or public health england that's old they just allow the government bashing to continue unabated just
12:23 pm
a quick final thought we're scrutinized this channel is scrutinized by of com we have bible of com rules and here we have the corporation investigating itself although it did recognize the mistake in b.b.c. news is that all right a corporation that investigating itself or does it have a conflict of interest is fine right now it has to investigate itself under the rules of the charter and you know as many of your viewers will have seen emily make mrs rant on newsnight. about dominic cummings that was just out an out blatant political opinion and we look to the b.b.c. to report news to report facts we're not really interested in what their thoughts are that is not their duty their duty is to provide impartial objective news coverage so they failed but yes their own internal reviews are good enough but they have to remember that they operate to a different standard to the other organizations such as your own that doesn't
12:24 pm
answer to our say senator nova scotia's good enough but but some might see it as a whitewash. well in this case it wasn't a whitewash so you might say that if the b.b.c. can find itself wanting then things are really bad and it is a high high time that tim davie the incoming d g actually cleans out some of the some of the plots and jetsam in the editorial department he needs to change the culture at the b.b.c. and he needs to serve the audience is far better than they have done over the last 5 years rebecca but that thank you for joining us live in an article that. a pet cat has tested positive for corona virus for the 1st time in britain leading to confusion about the risks involved or as modern andrew separates the truth from the scaremongering. the british reckon we associate says that there is no evidence that has been spread of virus or come become sick from it it's driven from human to human transmission in this business news travels and changes fast now it's emerged
12:25 pm
off the line friends can get the virus questions have emerged about how covert 19 transmits and in fact we set the scene of a very small handful of cases where cats appear to have been infected from people that had cable. and certainly that the higher the risk is from person to person said he at the moment maintaining good hygiene practice the u.k. government say this cat is thought to have been infected by its owners and not the other way around who had already tested positive for coated 19 the animal and humans have all fully recovered there was no transmission to other animals or people in the household and no evidence to suggest them or pass the disease to the owners or the animals can pass coverage 19 on to people but you can't be too careful professor joanne santini from university college london a suggested that the u.k.
12:26 pm
government starts up a mass surveillance program of all animals that we humans there is increasing evidence that some animals can catch up to from people and might subsequently transmit it to other people but we don't know just how much of a risk this is as it's an area of study that has not yet been prioritized but animal charities say that level of risk has been overstated essentially what you scientists is saying is that that kind of speculating on a situation that doesn't currently exist and we actually have no evidence will exist. so it's not intended as it's definitely not intended to make you know the normal people members of the public do anything different will with that of scientists say there is no cause for alarm but that hasn't stopped can see. about pets and covert jorian locked down animal shelters are at twice the capacity compared to this time last year even with this latest case some think it simply
12:27 pm
underlines how important existing covert 19 measures are just like human hair is that a risk could be on our pets so that is why it is supreme hodson's you're practicing these will be good hygiene practices so making sure that you before and after your income tax you while washing your hands the rate was so much now using hand sanitizer pet owners will unquestionably be worried about this latest development although all the data shows it's very rare and animals only gets mild symptoms but it does show that as more is discovered about the virus keeping an eye on our nearest and dearest including our very friends is more important than ever right andrew's are to u.k. like that of have more news we in half an hour.
