nations and n.g.o.s operating in the area for the european union to do more and for membership states to share the burden of migrants that are currently arriving on the shores of lampedusa other italian islands what we are saying though is the situation in lampedusa is really our breaking point. the mayor of the tiny mediterranean island has said he fails abundant and the island feels abandoned by both the governments of italy and the european union. is that before too i say that nothing has been done to solve the problem of migrants
8:05 pm
because in italy we speak only and exclusively from the point of view of differing factions but this moment is more of a electoral campaign than a solution to the problem we have 2 factions one that shouts yes and the other that shouts no but they never set out on paper how to solve the problem and therefore the problem both in easily and in europe is very serious we need to face up to it in a radical way and will continue to witness everything that is happening on the island i don't understand why transfers are not carried out with military ships what are these military ships for given that italy is not at war with anyone europe has done nothing for lampedusa on the problem of migrants no one listens and there is a deafening silence from the european and italian institutions even those who a task. with taking an interest in the phenomenon of basically left alone well numbers of migrants crossing the mediterranean is continuing steadily it's a perilous crossing at the best of times as we head in to the autumn and winter

months it's only going to become more and more dangerous and require more and more people to muttley being rescued from the waters of the mediterranean the latest surgeon c. crossings to italy from north africa comes 5 years after a landmark speech by german chancellor angela merkel almost exactly to the day back in 2015 she responded to the concerns over the influx of migrants by saying this if you are going to enforce this and i say very simply germany is a strong country the attitude with which we approach these things must be we have achieved so much we can do it we can do it and when something stands in our way it has to be overcome it has to be worked on. according to official data almost 5000000 people have applied for asylum in the e.u. in the past 5 years italy france sweden and germany have taken in the largest numbers officially added germany has accepted more asylum seekers than any other

nation in the past decade according to the un refugee agency we spoke with petter by strain from the alternative for germany party he believes the inflow of migrants has been devastating for the country. everybody knows that the policy wasn't success if the target was not to destroy the german society we are facing a very massive rise of criminality. committed by didn't oh look at the both the brakes it was cost from a big part because of this migration krises and because of the migrants the european union saw and breaks it is the beginning of the end of the you so does this was a big big problem and you see also the pensions now between countries in the european union between entirely on one side and germany on the other side.

between the countries of the sugar our group on one side and germany on the other side said this this problem is making european union falling apart. china has introduced a new restrictions on tech exports in a move that could block the sale of tick tocks operations in the u.s. soccer taylor looks at why companies are vying to buy an app that until recently was the focus of spying allegations lying snooping and stealing if you believe the us these are china's favorite hobbies that after years of targeting our industry and stealing our intellectual property you should know there is enormous risk to america's national security as well that's left of american jobs and wealth. has come to an end and deny the chinese communist party access to the private information that belongs to america but in a twist only 2020 could provide it's no beijing he's getting touchy about its tack
8:09 pm
such an technologies will not be subject to export bans or restrictions meaning they have to be green that by the chinese government someone who would be doing a 15 2nd synchronized jig to celebrate this news byte daunts take talks parent company because all day rough couple of months involved a volatile in legal disputes talk about of an executive order we're looking at at 6 we may be betting to bear that the use of tech talk by all federal employees i don't mind if there's microsoft or somebody else a big company has secured a company very very american company by the chinese company has to sell off its u.s. operations because donald trump said so on because there is 100000000 users new u.s. company bond into that dominance the slip sinking free wild mess and given its basically a direct line to millions of young people right for odds research and data collection
8:10 pm
which don't worry is totally acceptable what america not the chinese communist party is doing at right facebook take talks about u.s. tech giants chomping at the bit i mean who wouldn't want to piece of this pie. bizarre as it may seem right that it's a gold mine and for some it really is whilst it's weight in gold. juggernauts microsoft and oracle said to be leading the race in a potential deal i don't want him to take out a room at $20.00 to $30000000.00 bill to dogs that way to ownership of the
8:11 pm
outrageously successful op i need not gas is also eyeing up a piece of this pot are yours microsoft or somebody else or it was the chinese what what the price is the united states could should get a very large percentage of that price and we think we deserve to have a big percentage of that price coming to america coming to the treasury while chumps teaming take top treasury may not be such a sure thing if i don't find it still roadblocks by beijing's new regulations even truman ties teenagers from new york to california straight to that photo as their identity either way it must be sad for a naing snooping and stealing app to talk sure how the knot of soup says and that willing to splash all kinds of casts to get it into bad you know there are many laws that are that have already been passed and so several more there are that are working their way through congress and certainly will be signed by the president
8:12 pm
that are banning chinese apps and chinese tech products but i think in one sense china wants to get ahead of that it's embarrassing and so you know by passing their own ban on cells. it's a way of regaining some of their national face what we're seeing now from the chinese side might prevent tech talk from selling to an american company like microsoft or wal-mart they see this as an attempt by the u.s. to basically force a fire sale of cutting edge attack that undercuts the value of the chinese companies but also gives chinese our u.s. companies access to technology that they don't have. another chapter in a long running saga donald trump's former national security advisor michael flynn has. lost an appeal for the criminal case against him to be dismissed flynn was convicted of lying under oath during the russia gate probe the charges were dropped on orders from the justice department but the latest ruling means that the case

still has to go through the district courts federal judges ruled 8 to 2 against flynn and his attorneys sidney powell called the decision disturbing split as expected a long line 7 from the tone and tenor of the judges said oral argument it is a disturbing blow to the rule of law some background to the case michael flynn was questioned by the f.b.i. as part of the investigation into alleged russian meddling in the 2016 u.s. election he resigned after initially pleading guilty to misleading the f.b.i. but later claimed prosecutorial misconduct at that stage his new layer produced the documents revealing that the f.b.i. had set out to entrap flynn and had no valid cause to interview him in the 1st place legal analyst and u.s. national security commentator jennifer to master believes the case against land should have been a nonstarter. not only the exculpatory documents that sidney powell did provide
8:14 pm
that show that this case should never have been brought not just that but the entire reason that the judge is holding this case out is because glenn pled guilty to a document that he has never seen so we have to think about that a document he has never seen that the public has never seen that the court has never seen that his original interview what they called the original 3 which sidney powell has been asking for so in most legal cases there's a process of discovery we need to see all of these documents doc just an edited version they had never even produced that original interview and i think their plan is to pass about november but it's certainly important hopefully they're going to be ways or methods where they can go that doing this to make this go through faster this is an absolute travesty of justice. international still to come in the program the people of ecuador rise up and protest over the country's economic collapse as it agrees to a huge relief package that story and much more after a short break. the

into joe biden's lead in the polls in the wake of last week's republican party convention the latest survey gives the democratic nominee a 6 percentage point lead down from 10 a week earlier both candidates are hoping to reel in african-american voters ahead of november's election because i have a great vice president at my side. senator kamel iris she knows about all the obstacles thrown in the way of so many in our country women black women black americans south asian american immigrants the left down to the left behind and i have done more in 3 years for the black community than joe biden has done in 47 years. and when i'm reelected the best is yet to come. biden's efforts to win black votes include choosing kamel harris as his running mate she is the 1st black woman on a major party's presidential ticket biden also gave an interview to robert carr to

be at a time when he has been criticized for sidestepping other media requests and some of his remarks about black people have been widely ridiculed. you've got a moral question of god so if you have a problem figuring out where you're from mere trump and you ain't black unlike the african american community with notable exceptions the latino community is incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different settings biden's approach to criminal justice has also alienated some of the black lives matter movement who wanted the police funded in june around 50 liberal groups sent a letter to biden disappointed over his pledge to help fund a federal community policing program his policies would also see an increased police presence in some black communities we heard from a human rights activist who says this all gives the impression that biden doesn't really understand the black voters. it was quite clear that the. troll

hello and welcome to cross top where all things are considered on people about economics as. the dismal science for reason it is often imprecise and almost always open to seeing what you want to see in many ways economics remains in our however the economic situation that sets us all now is much more than about our politics it's about the way we will live for this foreseeable future are we witnessing a recovery if so what kind of.
8:27 pm
discussing the economy and more i'm joined by my guest daniela de martino booth she is an daoist she is the c.e.o. and chief strategist for quill intelligence a research and a linux firm she is also the author of fed up an insider's take on why the federal reserve is bad for america as well as they call mr bloomberg view and in new york we cross to marshall are back is a research associate for the levy institute at our college and contributor to independent media institute as well as a member of america compass or a newly established think tank form to restore an economic consensus that into sizes the importance of family community and industry to the nation's liberty and prosperity right across up rules in effect that means you can jump in if you don't want and i always appreciate ok let me go to our national 1st in new york last week we came out with some new jobs numbers and it was quite surprising for
8:28 pm
a lot of people that was a row of jobs growth probably over 2000000 though there seems to be some all of the issues now which used interesting in itself. which gives people a reason to believe that there is some kind of recovery and i would really would like in this program to be politicized that i don't want to talk about who whose advantage it is ok because that's it's turned into a political football and we may be dealing with something that is it came to the great depression so i think we have to take it very. seriously so marshall i mean we in some kind of recovery or is it too early to same her recovery in some sectors and not others kind of you know unpack it for us you know without getting too political the look that the idea is if you if you go if you if you stop a car you know you're going 100 miles an hour then you stop a car then and it goes to 0 and then you break celebrate and it goes 20 miles an hour of course you know the car is moving again and. and so course it you
8:29 pm
that that's progress but you are still far from seeing that automobile move operated at maximum efficiency so leaving aside this is the goal legend and there are there is about and i'm sure we'll get into that yes there's been some recovery but you are still dealing with some you've still got some profound long term structural issues which i think are far from being resolved your opinion i mean it's one of the things that you know 2 a situation like 2 very sudden because this was this was self-inflicted it the heart of it was turned off it was a it was it a choice ok but as we come into this recovery it if you know the word recovery is. the a trying to reveal some of the structural problems that were in the economy in the 1st place and i think that that's something that we need to look at is well because i've long lamented people talking about these really big macro economic numbers
8:30 pm
that doesn't really always tell you very much about the economy or what how the markets are you know i mean you know you come out with you know these different various job reports and then the markets are soaring and they seem so disconnected because it really doesn't have much to do with the average working family. you know that's exactly right and i think that the reason that the economy was kind of on a weak footing coming into this year is why we've had the rebound in the. stock market that we have and that is that the federal reserve kept interest rates at artificially low levels for so many years that non-financial business debt in this country was allowed to double so it was an accident waiting to happen so to speak and once that accident did happen you know that the blackest of black swans then we saw a much faster underground filling in the corporate bond market and what would have been expected and that was just it was just a by product of them being as over levered as they were which prompted the fed.
