possibly track what we're doing. this is the one business show you can't afford to miss i'm going to washington coming up u.s. china tensions flare up at the u.n. general assembly as both president speak out on the effects of the chrono virus you may have noticed that prices are up at the grocery store but we'll take a look at what those numbers actually need and with co-host spence juan we have a lot to get to so let's get started. tensions between the u.s.

and china ramped up at the annual u.n. general assembly in new york while the coronavirus remains a global threat and has only made matters worse between the 2 countries in a speech chinese president xi jinping said his country is not looking for conflict and stead is calling for international cooperation. we will never see courage gemini expansion or spear of influence we have no intention to fight either a cold war or a hot one with any country we will continue to not narrow differences and resolve disputes with others through dialogue and negotiation. meanwhile president donald trump continued to blame china over allegedly mishandling the coronavirus in what he says could have been stopped from spreading. we will distribute a vaccine we will defeat the virus we will end the pandemic and we will enter a new era of unprecedented prosperity cooperation and peace as we pursue
11:33 pm
this bright future we must hold accountable the nation which unleashed this plague onto the world china. for more on what's going on in this tit for tat between the world's 2 largest economies they want to bring in don west coast christie i am author of understanding socialism and host of economic update professor richard wolfe professor as relations between the u.s. and china that they're continuing to deteriorate is a cold tech war really an unavoidable want at this point and if so how is this going to end. well i think it's a void of all i think what you're seeing is mostly posturing by mr drum for domestic electoral votes. they're saying china seems to be is our 8 year old what will gain games from kind of the order. it is crazy sure there is really nothing else like him to blame china for the failure of the united states to be prepared
11:34 pm
for a virus or to be able to contain it united states and forming a half percent of the world's people and 25 percent of the world's corona cases and corona debt other countries have been able to protect and contain in a way the united states has not the last time we had a endemic like this in the world 1800 the virus started in the army of the united states on a base in and says no responsible obligation holders the american virus this loyd by mr trump is a shameless effort and it is interesting to watch the chinese be as cautious be as moderate be as co-operative in their research. as they are they showing the restraint that is the little opposite of the rest is so full. of. well 20 because you're very much right on point there president trump is facing
11:35 pm
backlash for his alleged mishandling or his mishandling of the pandemic some say and accuse him of christie other countries are also getting increasingly nervous here and they reiterate that china and the u.s. they they must reconcile we're talking about the world's 2 largest economies how will they be affected if the situation escalates from here. you know so many other countries are getting increasingly worried at this current situations escalation and with most recently the u.n. secretary general warning that quote we must do everything to avoid a new cold war and then he goes on to say that the world cannot afford a future where the 2 largest economies split the globe each with its own trade and financial rules and artificial intelligence capabilities so smaller countries now they're especially terrified to be caught in the crossfire if things escalate with washington are hardening again assertiveness in the south china sea urging nations to be wary of china as well and wrote initiative as also follow as well so
11:36 pm
countries such as singapore who have deep deep economic ties with china and other south asian southeast asian countries who also depend heavily on china for goods and trade they may now be forced to actually pick sides so right now with their economies so severely weakened already by the corona pandemic and the slower demand they're not in the position to turn down any sort of trade business or support from china and there also is this going concern in india as well as the relationship between india and china continues to deteriorate they are reluctant to partner up with the u.s. but they also could find themselves aligned with the u.s. now with the border crisis and the united states is pushing its allies to to cut off ties essentially with china we're talking about globalization here something that's taken years and years to build and backtracking from that could be very the . and how a humongous a huge impact really on the global economy which is already hurting because of the crown of iris professor there seems to be at this point no real reconciliation in sight as chom continues to blame china for this chrono virus outbreak this these
11:37 pm
tensions that began to to ask away following this do you think it's likely that this could actually escalate into an actual hot war. at this point i don't think soledad damage that would be done to the participating countries and to the rest of the world makes one really wonder how much of this as i have said to us for months now how much of this is a cedar that will go away i want to remind you early on when mr trump was way the tower of trade war we would have this on again off again. to trim in terms of listed eighty's it was hard long and then we would hear about how we had a wonderful conversation with the chinese officials and they were coming to visit and then everything would get better and then it would get worse and that this is the way of it being a. position himself for the american market as an eye for the rest of the
11:38 pm
world as some kind of accommodation once the pressure of the election is over whoever wins will happen we seen all of this and then we will see much more clearly i am real this is and how important this is they made clear the mistake american market to live it especially because it seems like the scene seems to be a bipartisan issue or where both sides are wanting to to go after china and be pretty aggressive kristie the semiconductor industry it's now a most at risk of a supply chain disruption if this continues that. is actually a trajectory how are companies attempting to mitigate that risk. about a minute left. so this has been a difficult couple of years for the semi's industry as the macro policies seem to be changing literally every single day and so a lot of these companies they find themselves having to diversify so you have tech
11:39 pm
taiwan's dummies who's a big supplier of apple and announcing that they're investing $12000000000.00 to build a 2nd u.s. manufacturing plant in arizona and also recently have the video also trying to diversify its operation into other parts of globe by attempting to our arm so this i mean dentistry is becoming the latest battleground in the tech war prices are rising and they're along with the need times for procuring semi's and in some cases hicks double the time to get supplies of suppliers are only making them available for key clients so even if he has this diversification moving things back to us short for manufacturing that's not enough because the supply chain percent is so long that the components for chips could actually travel more than 25000 miles before completion and can cross the border more than 70 time or final product is delivered to an end customer ha kristie i profess or richard wolfe thank you both so much for your time today we appreciate it. but the crown of our shutdowns causing prices to rise in many different areas we are asking
11:40 pm
a very important question is inflation actually higher than 10 troll banks are willing to admit well the latest inflation statistics say prices have risen by only one percent over the past year but it may be that there's something wrong with these numbers will in reality life has become more expensive in many different ways and many of those factors are not being accounted for joining us now to discuss this from bus co-host and investigative journalist ben swan ben we know the lines outside of the food banks that we can't hide those have been reaching record levels and yet the numbers show that poverty lines have somehow fallen why are these numbers not whining here. yeah there's a couple of reasons for it one of the reasons for it is because even though the federal reserve says hey really inflation is not a problem we don't have an issue with this right now where they're not taking into account is what's happening with real people so as you said the cost of a lot of essential goods have gone up a lot we all know that right so if you go to the grocery store you buy milk you buy eggs you buy toilet paper you know that the cost of those items is much higher than
11:41 pm
it was we also know that if you e-commerce shop for that on places like amazon even companies like amazon themselves have greatly increased the price for that but even though that has been happening what's happening is the federal reserve is not really taking that in with to account when they look at inflation and they're also missing the fact that there's something else taking place which is that people are also having to substitute items so what they'll do with their shopping cart is they'll say why no i have to pay more for toilet paper eggs milk bread and meat and so in exchange for that they're actually buying less of other products new survey that's come out shows that 90 percent of people say they are buying less deodorant than they used to i just had an interesting idea because obviously you're not going out of the house as much right like this is an area that i can cut into but the idea that people aren't losing money or having to spend more for items is simply not true people are necessarily stocking up on things that they once did or could have but for its part much like you said the federal reserve is changing the way it calculates inflation now is that contributing to the sort of disconnect between
11:42 pm
what's really happening with consumers and what central banks are and are now claiming well there's definitely a disconnect there and one of the biggest reasons for that disconnect is because the federal reserve does not actually survey consumers i don't know if you know this or not and then for a lot of our viewers this is probably a surprising thing it's not a question of will the federal reserve is going out now asking questions of consumers and they're basing their data on this they're actually not doing that in fact the federal reserve bank and central banks in general don't talk to consumers there have been a number of studies done though by groups that do actually go out and poll consumers i was referring to one just a minute ago and what they're finding is that if you ask. consumer's is your life that's really different now in terms of your spending in terms of the amount of money that you have right now in terms of what it's costing you to be able to provide for your family by a vast majority of consumers are saying it's more expensive than it was before they has a less power than they had recently and it's hurting them and their families so that is an important point that the federal reserve misses when they just simply look at the rate and say well we're going to fudge the numbers on what the inflation rate
11:43 pm
looks like and they're not taking into account what it means for real people in their real life and remember they're ok with some inflation just not too much but many consumers now they're saying the prices they pay for most essential goods are higher much like you said not not just on the grocery store but essential goods how does that impact other spending. well it impacts across the board as i was saying because what you have is you have this basically it's called the shopping basket test right which is that a consumer when they go to the grocery store most people are on some kind of budget it may not be a super tight budget but everyone is on some kind of budget right what do you normally spend weekly on groceries well if now you're having to spend 2 times as much 3 times as much to buy meat bread as i said before milk and eggs and toilet paper if all of that is much higher then you're not able to just expand your shopping budget so you have to change your habits in terms of these other areas as well so you start cutting back on other household supplies and things like the odorant but i think what's really important through all of this is that the federal
11:44 pm
reserve is looking at the same hey we're going to probably keep things the way they are and interest rates to nearly 0 for the next 2 years right we're going to keep things this way and the disconnect is that they don't recognize that keeping interest rates low that's great but does that actually affect your spending power when you have to provide for your family that's the disconnect all that much like you're saying and people are at consumers actually watching what they spend and really asking themselves twice to i really need this or how much of this do i actually need but i must co-host an investigative journalist bence want to thank you as always for breaking this down so things. it appears the boeing $737.00 max could soon return to passenger service well the troubled plane has been grounded for more than a year after 2 fatal crashes were caused by the jet's faulty flight control system will for more on how soon we can expect the 737 max back in the air and how critics are responding let's turn to our team's trinity chad as he joins us live from our new york studio trinity. so are the boeing $737.00 has been grounded since march
11:45 pm
$21000.00 after 2 separate crashes in ethiopia and indonesia killed everyone on board but now it looks like the federal aviation administration could recertify the plane if it meets all required fixes and safety changes now as the aircraft remains under review the f.a.a. has asked for public comments on safety changes to this aircraft so on monday the allied pilots association which represents 15000 american pilots submitted comments to the f.a.a. saying fixing the flawed flight control software is simply not enough in fact the union says boeing must address the confusion that played out in the cockpit in both tragedies they went on to say that responding to emergencies must be committed to memory and not posted on a quick reference card that sits in the cockpit the agency points out that memorized procedures are most appropriate for emergencies especially when attempting to regain control of the plane a spokesperson for the a.p.a.
11:46 pm
said for runway stabilizer and airspeed unreliable incidents the items that will save your life should be memorized and not placed on a card that means it will take too long runway stabilizer and airspeed unreliable are non-normal conditions that can rapidly lead to the loss of aircraft control if not immediately recognized with appropriate corrective actions taken by flight crews the fatal crashes of lion air flight 610 and ethiopian airlines flight 302 were both linked to boeing's installation of that's the flight troll computer system which was not on previous. versions of the 737 however the a.p.a. recommendations that were recently submitted do not specifically address that troubled software sarah will turn to this interesting point besides enhanced memory training what else is the a.p. recommending. while the agency is also proposing steps that would allow flight crews to identify and pull a circuit breaker to disable the stick shaker that is activated during mid-flight
11:47 pm
emergencies when it goes off it fires off multiple audio and visual warnings that include rapid and noisy rattling of the control columns which is known as a stick shaker pilots say that it's extremely distracting and the a.p.a. says that it could hinder human response in emergency situations meantime while national transportation safety board has called the f.a.a. is proposed changes positive progress the crash victims families have said that boeing's changes to the cast do not address the underlying aerodynamic problems in this case all this as boeing boeing whistleblower curtis has urged urged additional protections sara are to correspondent turn each of us thank you for that update. time now for a quick break but stay here because when we return we'll take a look at the growth of the u.s. economy thanks to the hispanic community with our rick sanchez as we go to break here the numbers of the close.
11:48 pm
look forward to talking to you all that technology should work for people. a robot must obey the orders given by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the 1st law. we should be very careful about official intelligence to the point is to create trusts. to take on various jobs and with artificial intelligence will summon the demon. a robot must protect its own existence was only.
11:49 pm
segregated. by social class. and poverty. if you're born into a poor family. born into a minority family if you're born into a family that only has a single parent that really constrains your life chances people die on average 15 years younger than you born into generational poverty. it's a fight every day you meet your needs and the needs of your family. when you think of hispanics in the united states what do you think will you notice the media typically focuses on issues like immigration and crime let me tell you
11:50 pm
roughly 80 percent of all it living in the u.s. are actually american citizens and latinos are the fastest growing group of business owners in the united states over the last 10 years that number grew 34 percent as part of hispanic heritage month we want to have a broader conversation on how we make an impact on the u.s. economy so for more we bring our coach of the news with rick sanchez mr rick sanchez himself right good to see you. always great to see you when we think of hispanic heritage month i can't help but think of something that comes across as really weak sarah and i know i know you understand what i'm talking about it's mereology over metrics it's one month of the year when all of a sudden they look at hispanics and they you know want to give them some kind of attention but i think it's the wrong attention in terms of what we need to learn about hispanics was a business owner yourself help us break down some of these numbers how big is the hispanic community and really what's the significance of these numbers.
11:51 pm
this is very important to hispanic communities 18 percent of the population of the united states 18 percent of the population and on average hispanic in america is 27 years old that means of all the groups out there in fact i think we've got a graphic we could show that shows you exactly what we're talking about here it's pretty it's pretty amazing african-americans are 13 percent population in america there's a percent above alasia arabs 2 percent of the population so hispanics obviously are the biggest minority in the united states this but what's most important about that is on average they're 27 years old whereas african-americans are 32 years old asian americans are 32 years old the average non white hispanic in the united states means everybody except the hispanics are 40 wow 3 years old and my memory serves me correct so what does that mean think about it for a minute would you rather who fuels an economy somebody who's younger somebody
11:52 pm
who's old somebody who's young works somebody who's young pays taxes somebody who gets older less up to work more apt to be the beneficiary of the tax base that's being paid so that's important for an economy it really shows how diverse we could be looking at our future to be right. well there's no question if you look at hispanics in the united states the valley. you that they get here let me give you a statistic that's going to blow your mind especially people out there who've been hearing the sort of propaganda that is very untidy is panic for the most part in the united states. if this panics in america were a nation they would be between the 8th and 12th biggest economy in the world they represent a contribution to g.d.p. of about $1.00 trillion dollars that is a huge number you know you wrap your head around that and it makes you wonder and ask people so wait
11:53 pm
a minute trillion why israel and little move it seems often 1.7 trillion dollars that's crazy a number i would there be a move to to. why would why would there be a move to move against hispanics to move them out i mean you hear signs of i know it doesn't represent the general population but you hear people constantly saying you know leave the country get out of here speak english than the other and we get to do a lot of that stuff but it actually would be if the united states lost the economic engine that's being provided by hispanics in the united states right now but from an entrepreneurial standpoint and from a consumer standpoint it would cripple the u.s. economy it sounds like that 1.7 trillion and a lot of money people don't often talk about this right but i want to ask you where do with panics in next here did they over and act how do they over indexer and do they over and act as consumers. there's no question as far as shopping is concerned i mean i think we have some numbers that we can show that are regular shopping
11:54 pm
online shopping hispanics 37 percent compared to 17 percent of the rest of the population they like to spend money as far as using their mobile phones 56 percent to 33 percent of the population i mean that's a huge number if you've got a business and you want somebody to sell to that's what you want to target as far as shopping for new products right they again over index 31 percent to 14 percent of the population car sales in the united states ask any of the big car manufacturers ford for example had an increase of 96 percent in hispanic growth nissan 33 percent toyota 35 percent honda increased 100 percent in their hispanic growth and it was simply by targeting or doing more advertising to hispanics and then there's cars and then there's home sales hispanics most would argue have carried home sales for 10 years between 20022012 when essentially
11:55 pm
the number of hispanics who bought homes in the united states became homeowners what up. 51 percent these are really significant numbers and they're important because it's not about hispanic it doesn't matter what language or what you look like or what your skin color is what matters is what contribution are you making to the united states economy and you can see from these numbers the contribution to the contribution is vast it's clearly a huge contribution to hispanics are now making and and one of the top new generations that are you know being entrepreneurs and really business like and business focused and one of the problems that often lead to this resentment rick you and i have talked about this people in the u.s. often say hispanics don't a family fast enough if you speak spanish rather they often say you're in the united states speak english speak american when in fact hispanics actually assimilate like every other culture here in the u.s. . benjamin franklin once said the biggest problem in america was the germans
11:56 pm
there's too many germans and we need to get in the hell out of here because for one thing they don't assimilate and they're not speaking english fast enough that's true by the way look it up benjamin franklin criticizing the germans this is back in 8091 or 7090 something who the hell knows but you know it's a famous quote and it's the same thing you hear now it's the experience of some american or somebody who doesn't speak english or don't speak spanish then goes to a supermarket and sees 2 of whalers to you know old ladies as we say speaking spanish to each other and they get angry i get it they should get angry and it is weird when somebody speaks another language in front of you so we tend to have this attitude that oh well do you know hispanics they don't want to speak english there's no dominant language technically in the united states and there for. there is well there's no official language of the united states right then dominate english in the english right but no official right. there is the united states does
11:57 pm
not have an official language but that that experience that i just shared. with you as one that's been had for centuries in america it's the same thing that said about the italians and the germans and now the hispanics and let me share a number with you this is the massey study out of princeton university that came out not long ago the 1st generation hispanics 5 to 10 percent of them speak english 1st generation those are the ones who just got off the boat like me and 2nd generation 70 percent speak english how full of them do not do not speak their own language spanish and by the 3rd generation this fenix 95 percent speak english and very few speak their own native language that they came from their old mother country and it's what those numbers are exactly the same as it was for the germans and the italians and many don't want to teach their kids spanish either or other other languages because they say well you're in the u.s. that speak english and that's kind of unfortunate because you lose the language and
11:58 pm
i think that's important as well more opportunity as rick sanchez host of the news with rick sanchez thank you very disturbed. that all for the time catch the best on the man on the portable t.v. app available for your apple android devices and i think. americans are divided enough to find it's only white and use it you shouldn't design decisions are challenged ideologies become exclusionary and call it the supreme court is not the realm of chartists politics and worst of all. is there a way out of this downward spiral. time after time corporations repeat the same mantra sustainability it's very important to accelerate the transition to sustainable transport sustainability and more
11:59 pm
