the u.s. election is in full swing and business is up bracing for potential chaos with the prospect of a drawn out foot count and civil unrest. that is which are driving americans to come shops in droves meeting historic boom in firearm sales. and as the familiar claims of foreign meddling hangs over this fight and clash we hit the streets of moscow to find out who russians are reaching for. the famous. i can see trouble. here too but i don't see biden. by the us that's the.
5:01 pm
always had to make sure you have the big stories this is all to international thanks for choosing us this new about the. well because it is november 3rd ballots are now being cost all across the u.s. and the most divisive presidential battle in the country's malton history it's certainly the most expensive election of all time and it's actually happening in the midst of a pandemic that's claimed almost a quarter of a 1000000 american lives well what you're seeing now the latest pictures from polling stations in 2 of the key swing states that's wisconsin and north carolina 4 years ago donald trump took both son taking wisconsin what's considered a tipping point for the president giving him a crucial lead in the editorial college count front things could be very different this time around some polls pointing to narrow victory is for joe feiten impose those tuesday. and a sign of growing anxiety business owners are boarding up their windows and
5:02 pm
preparing for the wost there are widespread fears of a disputed result with some security experts predicting street riots in washington d.c. many offices and stores have ramped up security while teams bence one is called boots on the ground tells us what's happening in fact. this is the scene all across downtown washington d.c. from the white house fanning out for miles if you have a shop or a business it's getting boarded up that is what is happening across the city and it's basically every business this is a wells fargo bank but we're talking basics we're talking restaurants we're talking office buildings if it has glass windows or glass doors it seems like there is plywood going up over it there are dozens of these crews all around downtown washington d.c. putting up plywood it is a patient of what go in then to subpoena should of violent protest as a result of selection are going to do a couple of these businesses and asked the store owners and the shopkeepers what are you guys expecting why are you boarding up now keep in mind most of these folks don't own these buildings are owned by landlords but they're telling me they're
5:03 pm
boarding up in anticipation of in their words quote whatever happens in anticipation of whatever happens now keep in mind we have in this country. 200 years plus of peaceful transition of power that takes place so this is a very unusual sight to see that during a us presidential election that washington d.c. would literally be boarded up in anticipation of possible violence but of course the other question that's coming up here does this become the new normal the new normal when there is a presidential election buildings board up in anticipation of protests against whatever the outcome might ultimately be i did talk to one store owner who is a liquor store owner he told me that during the george floyd protests his business was broken into his windows were smashed so he's putting up the boards himself most of this work is being done by professional crews but i did ask him what do you think any of this has to do with the election and he said your guess is as good as mine over at the white house there is another set of our cautions being put up so aside from the plywood being designed to stop protestors and unscalable fits that's
5:04 pm
what it's being called unscalable fence has been set up here at the white house to protect the president and the white house from any protesters who may try to get over this initial fencing and the multiple layers of security what makes this fence different than these others is actually made of mesh and so there's no room for fingers or toes to be able to climb up and by the way some media organizations have been mislabeled in it claiming it's a white fence on the other side of the white house made of wood it is not it is this mesh fence that has been confirmed for us by the secret service today the big question surrounding all this really comes down to the question of is this is the new normal for elections hard to believe but with more than 200 years of peaceful transitions of power we're now talking about possible massive protests on the night of election night and again new layers of security at the white house it's also about what happens in the next 4 years 8 years and into the future. meanwhile gun sales have such to record numbers in the u.s. in the spring following protests for racial justice in california customers will
5:05 pm
see 90 not a gun stolen is city of los angeles and the shop and says the demand is just so we're going up. to the store our 1st time purchasing is probably 50 percent about how some of the people that come into our shop are 1st time buyers and that's a big deal you know they fear the worst to come after you do you like and you have it people are going to do you know riots and stuff like dad after the election i think it's going to get probably the worse you know and people once they start breaking down houses in the mobs get bigger you got to be able to protect yourself there's a lot of people getting whatever they can in their hands. when let's go live now to use a new york. now polls saw just placing in a few hour was how has the vote gone today so far what's the picture. well here in new york we've got just
5:06 pm
a few more hours of the polls being open voting has been in full 'd swing no major problems reported we're not seeing the long lines that other states are experiencing because of the early voting procedures that were in place here in new york now there was a report of people voting under the names of the deceased people who had died and were still on the voter rolls had individuals showing up and trying to vote in their names that's according to the new york post however a fraud of that made nature probably won't have a big effect on the results because new york is considered to be a stronghold of the democratic party the electoral votes here are expected to go to joe biden so it probably won't change the results very much if this kind of fraud is taking place and it's not clear how widespread it was this is only one report according to the new york post now a federal judge however recently ordered the u.s. postal service to inspect several processing facilities in swing states and one of them is in the state of pennsylvania and as
5:07 pm
a result postal ballots could take several days before to count even after the voting has ended so as a result of that in the state of pennsylvania a key swing state we may see a delay a very significant delay of several days in results this is the supreme court ruling and now during his election day visit to the republican national convention annex donald trump commented on this recent development and he said that this undermines the transparency of the election this is donald trump. winning is easy losing is never easy enough for me it's not you have to have a date and the date happens to be november 3rd and we should be entitled to know who won on november 30th and if somebody comes along and puts a ballot in wally which a very dangerous decision for this country what they did with pennsylvania. now pennsylvania is the state where joe biden recently ended his campaign now as
5:08 pm
tension is rising across the country we've got police on standby people boarding up their businesses in anticipation of protests it was quite interesting to ask people if they could name the policy differences between the 2 major candidates we took to the streets here in new york and we got some interesting answers take a listen. carnival . from from the other here in your dream job government experience. for them for housing near 0.0 so you destroy them from the work says we want most is your heart and let me see as opposed to you. from the truth is you. really.
5:09 pm
should sit back. and i'm going to say don trump but it could be provided. now the new york city police department is quite visible on the streets tonight as there is anticipation of protests that have already been called if the results go one way or the other now a number of stores have boarded up their windows just quite a bit of glass covered up if you look outside furthermore we've got a report that apparently one high end luxury and apartment building has hired armed security guards so many people very very nervous about what could happen as as there have been indications that neither candidate may concede the results that the result could be contested you know many people worrying that these election results could turn into a potential explosion here in the united states. well certainly it's one of the most interesting if not exciting elections that we can remember in malton history
5:10 pm
that was caleb maupin reporting from new york. there's been an online campaign urging voters to vote against trump even if they're not particularly keen on the alternative and it's got a very catchy slogan subtle for byington arties going underground spoke to us comedian jimmy door who explains why the left isn't sold on that democratic contender. joe biden is going to move to the right he's already said but promised he's bought out he's going to veto medicare for all even if it passes the congress and 80 to 90 percent of the people in the country are for it is already vowed to do that and why did he vote to do that because he's in the pocket of wall street and the health insurance companies his record is not ever being able to be moved to the left is record is he moved to the right and then farther to the right he's not moving to the left before he has your vote the idea that he's going to move to the left after you voted for him is as just nuts it's him it sure it's ridiculous and
5:11 pm
we've got to snap americans out of this idea because once joe biden gets elected we just have another problem to fight you know what they're saying is it's the equivalent does i'm going to go buy a car after i give the car dealer all my money that i'm going to negotiate the price and he's going to give me some of my money back that never happens this is which is why joe biden is never going to move to the left which is why these people have trump derangement syndrome to think that joe biden is anything what an exact warmongering fascist neil liberal who's going to workers and take care of the billionaire class at least 100000000 americans have already made that choice he's saying and pos not and and ballot as you can see twice as high as and the last election now as they take longer to count it's likely to mean significant delays and there are different rules so in some states cannot be opened until election day and to the pennsylvania north carolina they can even be excepted
5:12 pm
several days off defecting has officially ended and donald trump has claimed the system is vulnerable to fraud and suggested he might not recognize the result and the democrats well the hinting saying thing. the only way we're going to lose this election is if the election is rigged remember the only way we're going to lose and so look for joe biden should not concede under any circumstances because i think this is going to drag out and eventually i do believe he will win whatever the end count is but on the election that occurs on tuesday he will be elected on january 20th he will be inaugurated president of the united states. while teams don't call to has more on the complexity and the potential pitfalls of america's out of toral process. for as long as anyone can remember washington's been helping people around the world fight wars change regimes influence elections all in the
5:13 pm
name of democracy but in 2020 america itself seems to have a crisis of democracy on its hands this is going to be a fraud like you've never seen our democratic institutions threatened like never before i think the choice in this election is whether america remains america is our democracy and dangerous this is a democratic emergency talk of democracy being in danger has become normal for both democrats and republicans and there's more than just one reason as to why we could start with the fact that the actual popular vote doesn't even determine election outcomes we're the only democracy in the world that doesn't kill the popular vote and the bitter irony of america's winner takes all system in which the outcome could literally be the opposite of what most people voted for is that it's called the electoral college. and.
5:14 pm
so no matter who you vote for it's unlikely to make much of a difference unless of course you live in a swing state and these states the popular vote is usually up in the air meaning they almost always determine the election outcome to give you an example no republican has ever become president without the critical swing state of ohio iowa michigan minnesota and north carolina are among those no less important swing states it's created a political situation where candidates will go to any length to please these specific voters i will be calling on the florida attorney general to launch an investigation into mike bloomberg. potentially engaging in bribery and vote buying in the state of florida bloomberg raised over $16000000.02 pay the legal fees of
5:15 pm
nearly $32000.00 black and hispanic felons in florida the democrats know how important a swing state is but so did the republicans at a recent florida rally trump demanded votes from the residents of the nearby island of puerto rico i'm not going to say the best but i'm just about the best thing that ever happened to puerto rico you better vote for me what are you going to unfortunately for trump he clearly didn't know they can't vote the caribbean island still has the political rights of what many consider to be a 1900 centuries calling puerto rico's 3200000 u.s. citizens aren't the only ones who can vote for the country's president american samoa the northern mariana islands and u.s. virgin islands are also vote lists u.s. territories even many people who live on the mainland have the right to vote but faced serious obstacles something human rights groups are calling a mockery. now we are and will to exercise it because they're all these barriers not enough centers missing from voter guides that are
5:16 pm
complicated to say you don't live in a territory and voting booths are accessible to you it's not like there's much of a choice everyone knows 2 parties run the show in american politics and even if a 3rd one does end up on the ballot it's not like it would have much of a chance to compete the polls show that about 2 thirds of the american people would like to see another major already an alternative to the 2 major parties that we have now and despite all these problems with america's electoral system washington still claims the country is the world's beacon of democracy. well we're lucky to be joined now by bruce marks he's former republican state senator from pennsylvania bruce welcome to the program thanks for taking the time to speak to us now we know that the supreme court allowed to state starts pennsylvania and north carolina to count ballots cost before the election but received days later why did they allow it and why specifically those 2 states. well
5:17 pm
that's not exactly what happened is to pennsylvania in pennsylvania despite our law which clearly states that the ballots cannot be counted if they got received by 8 pm on election day our supreme court changed the role of the republicans challenge that it went to the u.s. supreme court and the u.s. supreme court voted 4 to 4 is before amy. barrett became a justice not to change that ruling but they have indicated that they're willing to reconsider that ruling after the election and they have ordered or that it's been ordered that the ballots that are received after 8 pm today the segregated so that if the supreme court rules that it was unconstitutional for the pennsylvania courts to change the law in those ballots will not be counted and so we're waiting on pins and needles here in pennsylvania to see what happens no i'm generally i think it's going to be a pretty successful night for your state but on. these prolonged deadlines why is
5:18 pm
it that trying if you can't. well there's no reason for the long deadlines you know elections have rules it's always been the case of the united states with the exception of military ballots from you know armed service people who are overseas we have a deadline in life we have deadline so if i want to vote at the polling place i have to vote by 8 pm on election day if i want to open mail there's no reason that i can't either drop my ballot off or mail it in time for it to be received by 8 pm people who vote by mail shouldn't get special rights and allow their ballots to be counted if they're received late it's up to the voter get your ballot in by 8 pm and that's it the other problem is that in pennsylvania our supreme court said that you could still count the ballots even if it's not postmarked so how do you know that somebody hasn't put a ballot in the manual after 8 pm on election day which is received the next day or
5:19 pm
2 days later that's wrong too because those people were then being allowed to vote after the deadline. how do you think the extended vote count could effect specifically the results in pennsylvania i understand it's purely a speculative question but anyway also last year you could ask a speculative question how and i'll give a speculative answer i think that the vote is going to be very close in pennsylvania there's been a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for donald trump he's had 5 rallies a day in pennsylvania for 3 of the past 5 days i think he's he's going to get his voters out today we've had wonderful weather. but if the race is close and ballots that are received after 8 pm on election day are allowed to count that's going to benefit joe biden because the democrats have been voting more by mail than the republicans the republicans believe that you should show up at the polling place we've had no problems in election day i was going to 40 polling places here in
5:20 pm
philadelphia black neighborhoods white neighborhoods neighborhoods they were all open they were fully staffed and they were only minor lines and that was only in the morning. i had last riley biden tried to sort of walk back his comments all about phasing out fracking which is something that he unfortunately ended his debate on the 2nd presidential debate but do you think that that will convince people that yes you know what he's a he's not going to do that on the so going to go with biden or do you think that will tug people towards trump. well his last rally was like 3 people. you know donald trump gets 304-0000 people at his rallies but the short answer is no there was video of joe biden saying that he was that he was against fracking and he's against oriental in favor of i don't know windmills or or maybe electric cars or something pennsylvania is a oil producing state it's
5:21 pm
a coal state which of course you know a book by i didn't you know opposes to i think the voters in pennsylvania who live in these areas i grew up in pittsburgh which is a fracking in a coal area thank you they don't understand understand joe biden's position and i think that's going to hurt him in nice what we call the red areas of pennsylvania where people are you know employed in the energy field a lot of people obviously spent the time talking about the swing states the battlegrounds why do you see potentially any surprises do you think that's going to be anything unexpected today and more. you know i forget who it is who said you know expect the unexpected i think that everybody expects it's going to be close in tensile vein yeah i heard you talking about florida a little bit earlier another key state is arizona. but it all depends on who votes you know polls don't vote and as i say we had wonderful weather here in pennsylvania. it's you know i use fahrenheit so it was around 55 degrees
5:22 pm
today clear skies that's the kind of weather that favors donald trump because his voters are going to be able to get to the polls while i hope you enjoy a while thought i hope democratic process we will all be watching as those results roll in and through pennsylvania that was bruce marks former republican face on to from pennsylvania thank you so much for speaking i really enjoyed me too thank you . but according to mainstream media it is very important to know which county that is preferred and most guy. takes well a tongue in cheek cloak. big bucks being splashed on campaigns the electoral college swing states none of this matters as long as the american vote is being decided. right there by the op she says.
5:23 pm
you'll never be able to find out how exactly it works behind these red walls plus the fact that it's russia that's deciding can easily be felt outside the kremlin too. so i start walking down the are about street in the heart of moscow and the 1st thing i see pretty much. stealing the u.s. alike ship deciding instead of the americans you want to see what it looks like this is what it looks like. the famous photo office i can see from. here too. but i don't see bidens. below us yet. but they're full from the more. sophisticated now about something that makes a difference right. i mean he's still down when you see this
5:24 pm
joe biden's wife showing up in the same dress as the one our teas editor in chief was wearing while interviewing sergei lavrov. so it's time to hear from the russian total bullshit different from. the 59 you wish. to gosh look at them but actually there are some of them but if we can see in them go. to sleep or school for you jason stay. when the night full. is the scheming put on police can now. go to issue number. one if the stories deal. the way we've. always. been
5:25 pm
a feeling of the future for the good of the. night or day rushes taking over. but let me be serious for a 2nd i'll tell you what most russians barely know when the american vote is happening and to be honest with you most people don't care at all i was going to get every bit of stuff. it was a libertarian you could sure we wanted to get uppity to tell you that. but they are you certainly make you the least of. these problems. but i'll still buy into that before but i. think i'm going to hear you. well stay with us throughout election day and beyond for more what about mainstream coverage of the vote for the big seat in the oval office
