donald trump cries foul finding a little suit to hold the vote counting in michigan and pennsylvania and demands a recount in wisconsin joe biden me was confident he's creeping closer towards the white house. after a long night of county it's clear that we would do no states to reach $270.00 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. fall out from the night fetch election could potentially drag on for days or even with neither side willing to concede. so we'll be going to the u.s. supreme court we want to. voting just. as you're prepared for
5:01 pm
any efforts republicans make in any court and you key states to advance the absurd theory that the president spells last night. hello welcome this is a tense national blood can chose us today from the whole team and i of i will welcome to the program. well let's get started the fate of the u.s. presidency rests in the hands of hof a dozen states still counting votes right now results that hang in the balance on could still go either way donald trump's team is already demanding a recount of ballots in wisconsin and is fighting a little suit the whole vote counting of both michigan and pennsylvania at the same time joe biden believes he's almost in the white house well joining me live now is caleb moore penn state of team biden says we're almost at least you know that's what he said in his speech just under an hour ago is it
5:02 pm
a bit too early to celebrate. well we just heard from joe biden and he gave remarks that might seem a little bit contradictory he said that he was not there to declare victory but he believed they were on the road to victory and he said that they essentially believed they had won but he was not there to declare victory now he acknowledged that the united states would come out of this 2020 alexion as heavily divided this is what we heard from joe biden. once this election is finalized and behind us it'll be time for us to do what we've always done as americans to put the harsh rhetoric of the campaign behind us to lower the temperature to see each other again to listen to one another to to hear each other again respecting the
5:03 pm
care for one another to 9 to heal to come together as a nation. now that theme of trying to heal the wounds and divisions that he sees in the country was pretty prominent in joe biden's remarks he specifically said that he intends to govern for all the people of the country regardless of whether or not they voted for him take a listen i rewrote campaign as a democrat. but i will govern as an american president. now this is as we're facing a situation where the trump campaign has just filed a lawsuit to stop the counting of votes in michigan and in pennsylvania they're arguing that there is an issue with transparency in how the votes are being counted
5:04 pm
in those states now we also heard from donald trump on social media arguing that he essentially feels there is foul play involved he tweeted out last night i was leading off and solidly in many states in almost all instances democrat run and controlled then one by one they started magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were were counted very strange in the poulter's pollsters got it completely and historically wrong he's also raised concerns about votes in pennsylvania etc now these tweets from the president have been labeled by twitter as potentially misleading and disputed about a civic matter or an election in order to see these tweets you have to actually go to the president's page click on a disclaimer in order to see them they're not showing up in people's feeds twitter has made the decision to suppress these statements from the president of united states. now at this point many democrats are saying it's pretty clear joe biden
5:05 pm
has won however many in the trunk camp are saying that they agree with the president they see foul play here now there are many democrats who are pointing to the fact that they say this was trump's plan all along that trump was going to declare victory before the mail in ballots were counted there are all kinds of all kinds of disputes and contentious things being said on social media right now the country is still basically the left holding its breath as both candidates seem to have a different narrative about what has gone on in the voting there is talk of this ending up in the court. trump has invoked the possibility of this going to the supreme court it is the day after the presidential in the united lection in the united states and it's not clear who the next president will be for the following 4 years the country is watching and waiting it's not clear if the vote counts will continue in pennsylvania and in michigan and everyone is watching and waiting no
5:06 pm
clear answer and outcome to the u.s. presidential election well as she was to we were just speaking just came in that trump has announced that he has won pennsylvania georgia and north carolina that is of course despite the fact the vote counting is still underway there are no official results but don't know trump seems to have claimed those 3 states as his own so we'll see how that plays out that was created more pain reporting from new york. while we spoke to human rights lawyer dan kadlec he believes biden's speech touched on an important issue in american society i'd like what he said at least to the extent that he talked about trying to unite america and that's just one country one nation and you know we need to keep that in mind we have gone through a lot particularly the share in terms of divisions between people and i think. that we do need some healing and some reconciliation and i do think for all of the
5:07 pm
shortcomings in the as many that biden is probably better poised to do that than donald trump when either donald trump nor joe biden seemed to be willing to concede as we just heard from trump piece claiming those 3 states and i can say friends are very to fraud and threats to take them out to the supreme court only placing father stress on already existing to visions in american society i discuss the current political climate with artie's my cast have. well that they're claiming that they would get with an election this close with an election this close well where you've got to wait until the final hours to see who voted for whom who is actually leading you need to set a precedent g.d. to create fear and you need to make noise to make sure that when it comes when it comes in for a recount perhaps or a challenge to the supreme court you can say that over remember i was shouting about this or i was i was screaming about voter fraud there this was unfair so what
5:08 pm
about sitting in creating a precedent these this was an ugly campaign the situation the streets in america is ugly people are completely divided and it's a 2 cabs and this wasn't a blowout as polls indicated after all this was a much cusa election suggesting that there's still a lot of americans despite everything that the united states has been through this year that support trouble and they're all b.s. the good to be very unhappy if there's a beaut president in the white house so now trump is creating all this noise shouting and screaming about the fraud and you know illegal activities and errors in vote county you had him tweeting about 128000 votes magically appearing for biden 1st of all it's worth segues balance that was likely a reporting error to twitter immediately sense that the comment but it's everywhere now and this is this has been trump's tactic you know if you create new ways then
5:09 pm
in the future you'll be able to point out that this was you know trouble point and here we have a situation in which there's all sorts of crises in every state as you know something that either side is unhappy with and now they're claiming that they're going to go to the supreme court we want. to be used in a proper manner so we'll be going to the u.s. supreme court we want to. voting just. we don't want them to find any ballots at 4 o'clock in the morning in the list. so you're prepared for any effort republicans make in any court in any of the states to advance the surgery. last night where there was such a mixed reaction to trump's speech at 2 am that when you came out all smiles but saying this is far from over and it's not the blue wave as many we're protecting as
5:10 pm
you're quite right and sad but i mean still a lot of people thought you know what pre-election this is just a lot of people saying all that we're going to fight about but they didn't maybe expect it to actually get to this point always surprised that i actually got to a point of 2 presidential candidates saying we're going to go to court well 2020 and all that of course there was a new put it this is the worst case scenario if one of them had more than a blue at the polls indicated you know it would be far it would be the sword the new president the other would be forced to concede the clues are these the mall worst case scenario it is because there's no room to contest the election i mean there were 50 c. observers for the entirety of the united states though there was no you know there's no outside 'd observers who you could then ask. people who have you knew bush neutral you you could ask is this fair with business for i mean some of these allegations if this election was in ukraine or in russia the shouting and screaming
5:11 pm
about how unfair and unfree it was 'd here it's completely different the mail in ballots as well the early voting it all skewed the balance of what was expected and what wasn't with with the with the letters being counted obviously they favor biden because he had called it as worthless malin rather than a ted with trumpet it was the opposite and with different states having different regulations you know different vote counting mechanisms and procedures it's just all sort of confusing to the point where you can say anything which is what both candidates have been saying you know you like. and you can tell the people he won anything you want your supporters they'll support you just because of the color of the hatch you've got on your head other supporters you'd of stabbings it from the white house to the white house today i mean people are taking out their disagreements. oh mon another i mean this is this is the president and he just to
5:12 pm
shoot how the now divided the united states is more so than at any point in living memory and this is something that the dog has reported on significantly that the united states now is as divided as it's never been before. it was all high hopes and big promises back in 2016 when donald trump took his place in the white house the nation was already divided by race gender class you name it and the country needed a hero now it's time for america get behind it of division have to get together. republicans and democrats and independents across this nation i say it is time for us to come together as one united people turned out trump never came to be that night in shining armor.
5:13 pm
20 twentieth's presidential election seasons looks more like an all out war on the streets more than anything mishandling of the pandemic response and the economic crisis but most significant was the brutal killing of george floyd that sparked outrage across the nation and even calls to de-fund the police altogether. and instead of trying to unite people america's divide. lines became part of both parties political strategies on the one hand biden then the democrats sold themselves as allies of the so called peaceful protests which let's be honest were not so peaceful problems in this. peacefully protest.
5:14 pm
not a bad way to dip your toes into the more radical left and black voter pools but on the other hand you have trump who decided to play the tough guy calling anti racism protesters vandals and anarchists trump sent federal troops to put down uprisings in cities a move that won support from a number of police unions and people who didn't want to see their white picket fence neighborhoods ruined now the law and order doctrine also embolden some of trump's more radical supporters so that seeing armed right wing militias and then freely walking around the streets of american cities became a new reality and what have both candidates done to fix all this point the finger it is what it is is a rasie what's going on and he doesn't want to see a lone order because he can't because he'll lose his radical left supporters proud
5:15 pm
about who is stand back and stand by but i'll tell you what tell you what somebody has got to do something about anti fair and the left because this is not a right as we move them is there is a direct this is a guy who not quite sure why this is the radical left would you she wasn't on both sides of the political spectrum we've got armed groups white nationalists proud boys right wing militias and tea for the whole bunch so what exactly will happen when the election is over weld everyone just sit down and decide to accept the results. what is going out live today for dental office founding out so. the online news site this can't be happening i actually just want to start off with something justin claiming pennsylvania georgia north carolina as the results despite there being no official results and even suggesting that he would claim michigan if they aren't cut the quote secretly dumped ballots a part of our white reports about what's your take. on the back foot scrambling for
5:16 pm
truth. got you he what he's saying is ridiculous if you look at a county by county counts of those states you can see each county election tester and you can see how many votes they cast and how many are left to count and it's very very clear that all the uncounted votes that that in the big numbers are in urban districts that are voting democratic so all of those states that he's talking about you know particularly minnesota wisconsin pennsylvania my own state although all the votes are in places like philadelphia and pittsburgh and and detroit and so he doesn't have the states he's lost those states and nobody stealing votes and nobody is floating it's all counting right now so what he's trying to do is so distrust in the result but actually most people i think are pretty calm about
5:17 pm
accepting it you know the the the violence that was predicted did not happen and so far and he's trying to stir it up but you know this is a man who is afraid to lose his job because there are so many prosecutions out there awaiting him which he has you're alluded to in read reports that he said he knows he faces a lot of prosecutions if he leaves office so you know a strain of this best to try to avoid that now both times has a sad that that right it's got supreme court all the way and 'd to think that what we wealthy and upset saying this select said kind of entitled ted long criminal proceedings i really don't think so i thought so did because it seemed like everyone was saying that pennsylvania was going to be the issue and you know the republicans have made it so in pennsylvania and in. minnesota
5:18 pm
in wisconsin and. michigan that you can't count ballots before the election so the hope was among republicans that these normally democratic states would not be able to get the ballots counted because there would be a deadline put on them which doesn't really exist for counting after the election but it's counting ballots that were already in and you know we have a long tradition of doing that we just didn't have as many ballots as we have this time but most states you are allowed to go including a lot of red states republican states you could go in and start looking at the ballots that were mailed in you could start finding out whether the names were correct in the addresses were of actual voters and then you could take them out of the envelopes let no piece of paper so that it could go into a seat be fed into a counting machine but you know at escalate scanner and count the votes really fast
5:19 pm
that's why florida could count their ballots really fast they were able to do that same with north carolina but not in pennsylvania you're not allowed to miss the republican legislature simply refused to change the law to allow early what they call canvassing of the ballots so it's their own fault that the ballots are being counted late and now trying to strain to use that and it was a strategy to use that excuse to then say ok we got to stop the count the way they did in 2000 with bush and gore and hypothetically i want if it did take the supreme court. given that there are more republicans than democrats at the moment 63 do you think that would give something upper hand. yeah that would be like venezuela you know where they packed the supreme court and we complained about it now trump tracked it and he made it very evident that he wanted his latest judge
5:20 pm
to help him win the election because it's so transparent you know the very things that we criticize you know russian elections venezuelan elections you know. we're doing it in spades right now but i don't think it's going to work because we're probably going to get an answer tonight or tomorrow in michigan which is very close to finishing their count and it's going to be. you know that and also in nevada so when those 2 states which are definitely going to be majority democratic you can tell by looking at the counties and how many votes are out it's not a mystery. when those are going to be $271.00 votes which electoral votes all together so biden will be over the top when those 2 states pass and we won't need then to mania i don't think at that point that the supreme court is going to stop the vote because it wouldn't change the outcome and they're not going to want to
5:21 pm
look like they're trying to at that point for no benefit to the republicans to stop the election in pennsylvania so we probably will end up with and still being it also being declared for biden while some want to wait for those still millions of votes waiting to be counted that was david until found out some of the online sites this can't be happening thank you so much for speaking to us thanks for having you. well with the wild still waiting on tad to hope for the final result europe's been reacting to the situation my colleague entre from a discuss the response well these are the in london sort of defense they have paris on pluto i'm ballin. heard from a few senior figures within the e.u. bush notably the prime minister of slovenia of all places yet is has said that he's already called it basically for donald trump and mike pence. his tweet was followed up with one from the chief spokes person of the e.u.
5:22 pm
commission who said that the democratic process was still underway yet in that there was still chances things could change but we've also heard from munford verba who's one of the most senior peas in the european parliament saying that we should look here in europe towards the united states and if we don't sort out our problems in the e.u. we could end up as divided as america with that's been pretty much the message as well for mayor in germany from one of the country's main tabloid newspapers good look mr president whoever it is on the front page of the build saying that this was the most important 'd vote in the world right now that was going on what we heard from senior figures though here in berlin from angela merkel's cabinet is that whoever is in charge of the united states following this election the problems that are in existence between berlin and washington they are going to go anywhere. like the german government and defense ministry we have to deal with any reality on the
5:23 pm
ground in the us regardless of who gets to point the administration points about the need for more german and european defense spending north stream to relations with russia have also been brought up by the democrats the time is different but in principle the demands are just as tough from that party prior to the presidency germany have been one of the united states' closest allies politically economically and strategically some of those issues have been spawned in a new way. with berlin in washington it polar opposites when it comes to north stream to a pipeline bringing gas from russia directly into. many say it's a new start everything you can to try and shut that down including putting in place sanctions against german entities involved in it something that would have been on thinkable in the past then it's the relationship between donald trump and chancellor angela merkel it clearly well it's clear they don't get on a lot of senior figures in germany in the political sphere. a bite in
5:24 pm
presidency not because the problems would go away but because donald trump has demonstrated he's willing to the public that perhaps would be done behind closed doors under a by presidency. the u.k. has this special relationship is it keeps a with the united states what it said given that the election is hanging in the balance in the united states so-called special relationship between the former imperial power the u.k. and the. sun if you will. and that's what was called in by winston churchill many years ago and it has survived. in the relationship recent years perhaps some strains creeping in on the donald trump you've seen differences on things like the 5 g. system here in the u.k. with trump pressuring the u.k. to lessen or completely kick out chinese influence in the 5 g.
5:25 pm
system differences with regards to the iran deal and perhaps all of those reasons why the foreign secretary told me that rob was somewhat circumspect saying that it's not really important who the president is because he believes that special relationship will overcome any ups and downs depending on who's in the white house they're always slightly different controls of the opportunities and the relationship but come what may i'm very confident that the bedrock ties all security cooperation and shared values will mean that the friendship the strength of economic ties cultural ties the shared interests i'm very confident that the relationship. all of these don't exist in a vacuum the united kingdom itself is really cling to wards and no deal briggs's the coronavirus because men hard enough as it is the u.k. were banking on a trade deal between the u.k.
5:26 pm
and usa but we've seen previous democratic president barack obama saying that the u.s. is priorities would be a trade deal with a big block like the e.u. the u.k. would be to the back of the line remains to be seen whether biden words take a similar stance to that of his democratic colleague but then on the other hand you have donald trump say that he does want to strike a trade deal with the united kingdom so many people here watching those election results very closely to see what it means for the future of the united kingdom we're hearing pretty much diplomatic responses so far but the election hanging in the balance is that the story too in france president mark owen has been incredibly tight lipped on twitter in regards to this election but we did have one slip from the minister of the economy he's treated in the last few hours that what ever happens in the united states states europe must strengthen politically and economically in the face of not just the united states but also china so a sense that regardless of the outcome of the election over the other side of the
5:27 pm
atlantic france and europe will be more to that. when president michael was elected hey back in 2017 trump was already in office in the u.s. he invited trump to come and spend pasty day here in france and it did seem as if the choose genuinely go sold with each other but that quickly soured and they have been big problems in the relations over the last few years let's start off with the paris climate accord president trump said he was going to leave the paris climate accord which might present michael was very unhappy about there was also the iranian new. clear deal which again trump said he was going to leave not present micro-loan was trying desperately to keep that to rein in nuclear coolant. trump is the winner of this election we can expect that there will be a bumpy ride over the next 3 years now if boyden is the winner of this election
5:28 pm
perhaps doesn't change too much over some of the issues but biden has been clear that he would take the us back into the parish climate accord the suggestion that he might go back to the new seating table over the iranian nuclear deal and as i said the e.u. is holding off on those retaliatory tariffs because they think if it's a boy didn't president see they might be able to open those negotiations and smooth over the issues but let's be clear if boyden is the winner he is going to have a lot to deal with on his own plate domestically so regardless of whether this is a trump or a poison when of course the administration here in france will work with that new administration in the u.s. but it doesn't seem like it's going to be easy sailing. or just wrap up let's take a quick look out the latest situation different ports are coming from the key states that are still counting the votes at the moment both candidates have claimed victory michigan which is still great hasn't been updated yet only
