greetings and salyut. you know while most of us have been distracted by a presidential election temper tantrums covert vaccinations and senators mark warner's and mitch mcconnell's rather tepid efforts at pretending to actually do something to help the american people through the people stimulus package the slow creep of their surveillance state has not relented and has been steadily rising across the country over the last year you see it appears law enforcement agencies have been busy buying up and implementing surveillance state goodies that allow them to see you when you're sleeping know when you're awake and know if you've been battered good like some sick kind of orwellian santa clause take jackson
7:31 am
mississippi for instance where and b c news is reporting that city leaders here are expanding police surveillance powers to allow residents and business owners to send live feeds from many types of security cameras including popular doorbell cameras directly to the city's real time command center so it's sort of like batman and lucius fox's use of cell phones to catch the joker at the end of the dark night except they use your ringer home security cameras instead when describing the city's new surveillance tech jackson mayor talk while the mumba told local media that quote. what we'll be able to do is get a location draw a circle around it and pull up every camera within a certain radius of someone who's running out of a building we can follow and trace them of someone says i want my ring door camera to be used well we'll be able to use it i mean come on later jonah what could possibly go wrong with that idea i mean the police would never ever ever misuse
7:32 am
surveillance technology. we all know that it would just as the good people of baltimore recently discovered that the police outright lied to them about their use of a spy plane that flew over the city for 6 straight months vice news reports that according to the policing project review baltimore police were using air imagery to track individuals over multiple days and watch houses belonging to relatives of persons of interest and all of that contradicts the b.p. dees claims that quote the images from the surveillance planes are to be used to track suspects to em from crime scenes not to take a look at what's going on at a suspects mom's place and that's just the 1st lie of many about this plane my friends the surveillance state yeah it never sleeps which means we must always be watching the hawks. if you will go and they see you straight.
7:33 am
there so you. see this is this you always see a. great city this least systemic dissent says so which. so brings up the old. welcome everybody to watching the hawks. and i'm of the chicago so major look at this we've got 2 examples of the surveillance state has definitely gone to sleep in is definitely alive and well as we head into the new year now absolutely and i think that you know talking about and putting a spotlight on jackson mississippi full disclosure my father is a police officer there. it's interesting because they're trying to manage what they see is an uptick in violence a lot of gang involved a lot of drive by shootings things that have to do with the sale of illicit drugs so i get to a certain point why they would want to however this goes above and beyond when we
7:34 am
talk about the privacy of individuals well and the think the thing that's insidious about it is it's kind of that like maneuver that we've seen corporations do when they want to violate your privacy rights or your rights some general and even the government where it's kind of like well look we'll get you to say it's ok to use my you know we'll get you to say hey it's ok for you to violate my 4th of my 4th amendment rights and things of that nature by agreeing to let us do this rather than us just doing it absolutely and it's easy when they do it the populations that you agreed have people who have been robbed he would've been carjacked all of these things so they went around basically with a p.r. campaign about why bring it so important so that it be able to collect this that in this information well they didn't tell people is that for those who have had ring in the ring has been out for over a year that information was already being collected by police officers and not only police officers the f.b.i. and all types of other law enforcement entities and i think you brought up a great point there that is that great point the fact that you know usually when
7:35 am
they try to take your rights they'll do it when you but agree by the outside by the force whether it be crime or terrorism or whatever is that you know $911.00 patriot act whole countries like oh man this is nuts and then they came in hey here's the patriot act hey here's this we're going to take a whole bunch of your rights. in the guise of safety and you're never really going to get them back and i think that's what so and so you saw this but then when you look at baltimore you realize that the police will lie to you all day long about surveilling him and here they had a plane flying over this you know the head of baltimore that could literally see 90 percent of the city at times and they just i mean from what the from what these researchers say just lied through their teeth about what the plane could or could not be used for. and this is something that privacy organizations as well as they feel you and other organizations knew efficiently when baltimore police department actually announced they were going to use this type of technology because they were trying to get the community to rally against this from the beginning because there's no way to know whether or not what this type of information is going to be
7:36 am
used for after it's collective but they do know that historically speaking when surveillance is used in that fashion there is no stopping these governments only into these police departments are using it however they want and also tracking people who have nothing to do with any type of criminal activity exactly because you know here's the thing it's like they will tell you all day all we need to stop criminals but again like you pointed out a lot of the people they're following their suspects they're innocent till proven guilty they haven't you know you don't have them you're not following the guy like you know it's an episode of 24 some cop action show where they're running out of the bank with the gun and the money is flying out behind them you know they're following someone suspected of doing something not someone caught in the act and the bigger issue with that is that these people who are thinking of doing something are often people who are already over police are individuals from low income communities this is your black and brown community members these are folks who are being followed by cops all the time who aren't guilty of anything so now they've just added another layer of it it is really ashley gorski a senior staff attorney with the a.c.l.u.
7:37 am
is national security project told motherboard quote this technology crosses the rubicon in terms of total izing surveillance and it superchargers the surveillance abilities that already exists the data itself is incredibly revealing and there are serious concerns about how it can be used now and how it can be used in the future and that to me is one of the biggest things that we have to as a society stand up and say no more of this we've already dealt with. you know steel and cell phone in france we've now we've got no we've got police departments with airplanes surveilling us i mean how much worse can it get there has to be a point where we just say enough is enough in a point where security doesn't also invade us having protections when it comes to our personal privacy. your. body cameras they were heralded as the change the police department needed the answer to criminal justice reform and putting in to police brutality by cameras were supposed to make police officers accountable and reduce abuses but case after case show us that's just not
7:38 am
happening in my hometown of chicago the police department is now is no stranger to abuses and atrocities committed to its citizens last year and jeanette filed a freedom of information act where requests for access to police video came footage to show the public what happened to her the video in question was released yesterday and it's horrifying the innocent woman was scared for her life when police officers forcefully and wrongfully entered her home they had their guns equipped with scopes drawn on her young was thrown against a wall and handcuffed make it as she screamed cried big in pleaded for answers the recently released video was finally made public after a court forced the chicago police department to turn it over as part of young's lawsuit against them evidence now shows that hours before the video was released a new stations the city of chicago tried to suppress it they were unsuccessful this disturbing video showed that on february 21st 2019 nearly 2 years ago 9 body
7:39 am
cameras were on as a group of male officers entered the home of an innocent black woman around 7 pm the woman a license social worker had recently finished her shift at a local hospital and was getting undressed in her bedroom within a matter of seconds police broke her door down guilt starch morning and hands up before proceeding to arrest the unclothed woman. her out the cops were responding to a tip from an unnamed source concerning a male suspect with illegal weapons in the home. but known lived alone the address was wrong and the male suspect they were looking for already had an electronic monitoring device on his ankle. young remains traumatized and lacks feeling of safety in her home following the wrongful actions of c.p.d. and is said to be leaning on her church family for support. from briana taylor not to this woman how many more instances do we need to show was. that we can't trust anything informants say at what point will police department start saying you
7:40 am
know before we send over people with guns drawn busting in doors raiding kick ass and take names maybe we should actually do something called police work 1st to see if it's the right place to go because it's a whole lot easier to take somebody else's word for it when we find with informants and this is been going on a whole lot longer than briana taylor employment for now going on for decades is that you have people who have died on death row people who have been sentenced to life in prison people who like this woman were brutally attacked by police officers without any recourse for them or their safety and then not being guilty of anything and not even being the person they were looking for all because they went on from somebody to do that background police work this actually happens in policing entities a whole lot more than it shows up on the news and the bulkier part here is that all of these individuals actually have body camera footage and many of the cases they don't even if they're not wearing body cameras or the cameras are on or whatever every officer who entered her apartment had a camera and
7:41 am
a camera was on and the frustrating part is c.p.d. the chicago police department knew that they were at the wrong house obviously they they didn't they didn't proceed for any criminal charges but this young woman however no one on that force he busted into this woman's house actually suffered any type of replication even though we thought all police protocol go out of the window when they were in her apartment i mean not allowing someone to get dressed you're throwing a blanket on them like. just like you know a ham covering them when they're not she's not the suspect you're looking for a male with guns this is a woman who's a social worker just in her home getting them that's a big difference of personality right there if she's saying i don't know why you're here at what point do you not stop and say common sense tells me that this woman who is a social worker is now who are looking for you would think because this is a black woman a think that and we see in this case after case there was no care concern they weren't listening to her throughout the time of that video she said multiple times
7:42 am
she's asking them why they're there she thinks she lives alone she's always lived alone she doesn't know about this suspect she doesn't know who they're looking for there were no signs of a male inhabitant in the in the apartment at all like shoes clothes nothing and if this woman's apartment and have her standing there and you know they the person you're looking for has an ankle bracelet and they're constantly monitored all you have to do is share information probably across the aisle from you walk over to the next door cubicle and say hey i'm looking for this guy oh you know by the way we got him out of the article but really the whole falls in the lap of the mayor and all of them and like their dad their neck deep in this it absolutely does lawyer lightfoot black woman 1st black woman mayor of the city of chicago 1st mayor of the city of chicago she got a lot of 6 a lot of media praise when she came in as being this progressive and all things about her show that she is not right now the city of chicago is embattled in one of the largest police lawsuits we've ever seen in this nation's history in $29000.00 alone they paid over $175000000.00 in taxpayer dollars out to families who have
7:43 am
been aggrieved by police officers over the past decade it's been over 524000000 dollars this is a woman who was when i was trying to suppress this video because she was fine trying to protect the police department the police department that is in need of massive reform and consistently they deny that to the citizens of chicago and when people always ask it all deform the police and things like that well i'm sorry but when you have numbers like $524000000.00 over the police had to pay out. the city had to pay out because of police negligence and outright you know the hurting of citizens essentially that number should be the huge red flag to say you know what maybe reforming the police is a good idea absolutely every dollar spent means not about what is going to clinics going to hospitals going to schools going to mental health institutions they're just giving it away based on the fact that they would rather do that than reform the police department absolutely ridiculous all right as we go to break my friends remember that you can also start watching the hawks on demand through the brand new

democratic presidential candidate and outgoing representative gabby recently introduced a bill that would effectively banned trans women and girls from female sports a controversial bill would dictate title 9 protections for female athletes based on their biological sex the gender assigned to a person at birth. this viewpoint has been attacked for being transpo big in discriminatory representative gabbert who isn't running for re-election to her congressional seat introduce the protect women's sports act according to god's co-sponsor of the bill representative mark way mullan hyland on was designed to give women and girls an equal chance to succeed including in sports allowing biological males to compete in women's sports the missions that equality and takes away from their original intent of title 9. if the bill is implemented it would deny federal funding to schools that allow trans individuals to participate in women's and girls sports. on a more positive front a new rule change in the u.k.
7:48 am
allows more gay and bisexual men to give blood a much needed resource while the globe continues to battle a pandemic the new will spoken on individual behaviors not blanket regulation that previously restricted blood donations from men who'd had sexual intercourse with men in the last 3 months the new walls dictate that all donors have potential to cure infections reducing the stigma associated with gay sexual relations the focus of the new rules is particularly able sex because it carries the most risk of sexually transmitted infection the new language and regulation ship smartly landmark changes in blood donation that allow more people to provide lifesaving assistance to those in dire need the changes come on the heels of a decades long global outcries against the homophobic nature of blood donation regulations joining us now to unpack all of this is preston mitchell policy director with the unite the reproductive engender equality welcome preston. you
7:49 am
should thank you so much for having me back it is always great to see you. preston we know that these attacks and the trans agenda have been a while the anti trans agenda has been around for a while but who do you think is behind the trans agenda and supports women and girls is this even an issue for college leadership and if. it is it's not an issue and middle place to actually have more expansive protections in particular states there are about 18 of them we have not seen because of evidence that actually extend that somehow expanding and extending more rights to transfer it somehow all undergirding gender equality in sports we've never seen that be the case i don't know who's behind it or give it a go organization for sure but it is interesting that representatives holds the governor wants a democratic nominee for president is the person that's actually behind the super bowl's $61.00 it's no surprise that she introduced below during the lame duck
7:50 am
session and during a time where she decided not to run for reelection in 2 there is also no surprise that the other leads off there is a republican governor has never been a progressive or a friend of the democratic party and i'm letting you know and it's closer for the person she truly is you know there's a guy isn't mentioned gabbert is on her last leg in the house of representatives you know she's pushing this this controversial bill that i again i have no concept of why we even need a bill in the 1st place on something like this because it just seems like it audix to me. and but the interesting thing is she's pushing this controversial bill that's also quite similar to one sponsored by the embattled embattled georgia kelly locklear you know i will make money off the covert issue what do the stocks you know what do these competing bills mean for the landscape of l.g.b. t.q. rights and inclusive of the country. just to be clear any time you have a bill that specifically emphasizes biological sex rest assured it's transfer there
7:51 am
is absolutely no reason then to create this why here. particular when you're talking about equity in sports between biological sex and what they're discussing here trans women are women that also means that transforming are covered under title 9 protections so what's really interesting here is that the argument that somehow trans women are not protected or entitled to tottenham protection is the is a contradictory and hypocritical actually to the foundation of what we've been all about. it's also when you look at title 7 the supreme court and all sports across the country have decided that title step and protection in employment discrimination actually apply. because the base the effect of ice between i don't want to actually talk. a little upwards and also at the government what's the difference between evidence i don't mind they're both federally protected mandate over about federal funding so there should be not to think that they're trying here and from calvert tried it on i mean that's. that's
7:52 am
a really good point thanks for raising that when the 2nd part of this was that me u.k. is changing its blood donation rules to become less the sprints or a 2 game and specifically the language is now more broad affectively pointing towards all risky behaviors among sexually active groups regardless of who they choose to have their relations with do you think this goes far enough in reducing gay stigma. you know i don't want to look at it because i guess what i'm going to. what i've always found interesting that that so many governments including the united states have continually like chipped away from what it means for people to actually make sold you know a couple of years ago for people to donate blood it was like this completely overhaul right so at 1st it's then that if you were to have sex with another man you can't tell me they went and so what you're abstinent here and you don't have sex with another man. and now we see they doing the same. old friends all.
7:53 am
that there is some how it's shorter period we're not being able to have sex. right like you were actually in our early on to be sexual freedom sexual liberation it will suit you don't have sex with all the information of me to be able to do that is what's really interesting is that they think it's it will not cure or homophobic for that matter they're targeting you. now listen i've been straight senior but one of the things that i actually do recognize is that the world that you were a little bit repressed when it comes the words and the birds and so we know that can single things i do not charge it's going to ridicule people in the markets or and i guess the legislature of our beat our meat it's not what the like so tried to not targeting we know and no matter what matter. and you know if you're going to
7:54 am
do these kind of things you know based on sexual act you know if you're going to put people say like oh people can do this based on who they sleep with things like that to make it across the board make it say ok nobody who is out sexual activity in the last 3 months can donate blood you know and then you'd see real outrage suddenly coming from all call light weight watch we can do this you know and if you're going to it's your money that's going to be all around and you know when it's going to have well actually anal sex that from our right it's like that they know that we have an overhaul that's. there but it's already in the meat now we. are going to get are we know where exactly i want to ask you very quickly is what advice to recommendations would you give to health care organizations about how to root out homophobia in their policies and procedures so moving forward we don't have to have you know these kind of ridiculous conversations we're having right now . i appreciate the question because it's something that many organizations don't
7:55 am
distrust and that's not always right. intense work there that's the impact. so it's interesting because people look at that you take all the thinking and say you know on its face equitable you know it's just hard it's actual activity it's actually targeting. you actually look at the impact actively going to be most impacted by these regulations but when you start to its impact and impact it's actually much more i talk a more black and it's color it's more like it's one more. look there and that's when copper really starts to boxer in the regulation regardless if your intent was to be discriminatory if you're in fact it's just it's a minute or an hour well definitely i can't thank you enough as always coming out and educating our audiences the way you so brilliantly do thank you so much for joining us today. thank you
7:56 am
a lot and you know how folks are. you know they bring up some really good brings up some really great points especially when you're talking about the difference you know with title 7 entitlement exactly i think that that was one of the things that hasn't been highlighted in even some of the some of the critiques of those 2 competing bills because that's already said and done this supreme court has already decided they would you cannot discriminate based on sex and let's be honest at the end of the day this is really just this isn't an issue that's really affecting americans across the board or anyone else around the world across the board this is purely a political invented issue because i think it gets clicks for right wing groups and they can say oh look at their star come in for girl sports absolutely it's not when the coaching staff is calling out anyway it's not when the unthinkable a is calling out anyway this is literally based on conservative groups and what they think will get their boat or simple all right and what about is our show for you today remember in this world we are definitely not told we are loved enough so i tell you all i am tyrone for and i'm amused to keep on watching all those hawks
7:57 am

in the day's headlines donald trump refuses to approve a covert stimulus package negotiated for months by congress the president said the spending plans focused too much on foreign aid at least for provisions and don't provide enough support for americans congress found plenty of money for far john trees lobbyists and special interest. the bare minimum. people. and also this hour the french government backs a bill to introduce a so-called green passport under which movement restrictions would be placed on people not vaccinated against the run of virus. and israel's coalition government falls after the knesset failed.
