do know horror and shattered by digital. in this episode we explore the ignorance and greed that led to our current crisis one of the 1st in medicine is do no harm. said that hypocrisy is was the 1st to say this and what that means is that the cure for any medical problem shouldn't be worse than the disease that you're trying to treat big chunk
6:31 am
of america is in chronic pain and pain meds back pain pain arthritis minutes real and it affects people's lives and they would like a way to live their lives to take care of their families without being in this name what the brain is trained is that different brains in their brain that's not in pain people have it in their hear there's a feel for something gardasil whatever modern iranians there's something out there is going to you know when there was this new miracle drug it's going to lemonade all your brain inside the company and the drug came out they received so many letters from people who had been suffering for years with no relief or finally felt like through oxycontin they were getting to be alive again in a way they hadn't for years and that they considered a miracle drug is the best thing that happened to me if i wasn't on this medication i just wouldn't be able to do the things that i'm doing now there's no question the best strongest and most of all the opioids have serious medical side for patients or just a.t.m.
6:32 am
machines some more you go back to the patient or you push buttons the more profit you can do the pharmaceutical companies all so we're not entirely transparent about the addictive effect of i'll be away and that peers were told they were non addictive when in fact they were and we don't get taught in medical schools. about the misses that we induce we only get talk about illnesses that we're supposed to cure we also grew up thinking that doctors are always right so if you have a prescription it's functioning and we talk about opioid painkillers we are centrally talking about heroin polls the drug companies are the great tell. doctors are the pushers. breaking news here and now it's a source from top to all programming but we've just heard that julian assange she's been denied by by a london court it does come after his extradition to the u.s. was blocked on monday. so let's get more on this now from our party's correspondent
6:33 am
shelley at. the call 1st. this news just in that bio has been denied many people will be surprised by this but others of course the seem to be strong arguments for both as. well and just the last few minutes also we have got the confirmation that bail has been tonight to achieve results really that he will be heading straight back to. prison as soon as everything wraps up over here it really did feel like it was going to go in a positive way for unison to specially considering that monumental decision that was made on monday the 13th to say that your sons would not be extradited to the united states so your silence then appealed for this bail that happened today obviously that has nothing to night but the united states still hasn't officially looked an appeals process or everything still seems slightly up in the air fortuna
6:34 am
so what we do know is the united states did try to extradite your results to the united states for what they call his alleged role in one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the united states they wanted him to face trial for spying and publishing classified documents relating to the war in iraq and afghanistan plus one of conspiracy to hook up a computer to publish these files and if you were found guilty of all of those charges he would have had to face 175 years behind bars so you're in a zone spared from the u.s. as most notorious prison for now but certainly not spared from the u.k.'s most notorious prison if this appeals process by the united states gets under way it could be a process that last years and years and years it could go on for quite some time so it is a devastating blow here for tuna's songes supporters throughout the legal proceedings here today we heard much from judas on this team saying basically the decision to deny extradition changes everything giving a huge motivation. unfolds here in
6:35 am
a staunch to stay in the united kingdom to respect the bell conditions they also serve as the appeals process is not concerned on the part of the united states is the president elect may not choose to go through with the procedure anyway plus of course on monday the key motivating factor for future songs the decision not to action due to the songs was based on his mental and physical health they noted that unison should enjoy good psychological torture over the last few years especially being out belmarsh prison but only if it really does come down to the fact that he did to someone just legal team says he would not be a founding the conditions he'll only face on the fact that we have a family here in the united kingdom stella morris is part of a very young children with 2 years a son and she says her children need their father. as long as julian has to injure suffering and isolation as an unconvicted prisoner in belmarsh prison and as
6:36 am
long as our children continue to be the rest of their father's love and affection. we cannot celebrate. we will celebrate the day he comes home. but they face a very tough challenge indeed in the court because the judge has already refused bail application twice already the 1st one of the united states he said that he just started going through a dream an extraordinary lengths to avoid extradition so of course i'm referring to the fact that cheered us on skid row by going into london's ecuadorian embassy where he stayed for a whopping 7 and a half years they also said that they were quite worried that he would try and leave the united kingdom as well noting the fact that mexico had granted. political asylum as i say one of the stars follow this month monumental decision on monday as if they really does feel like a devil. especially taking into consideration the fact that yes the judge on monday
6:37 am
ruled that the son would remain in the united kingdom but only based on medical grounds completely taking the side of the united states government in terms of the political. motivations they said they was not politically motivated and that he would face a fair trial in the united states under the u.s. as constitutional law and they also noted that his actions were not in the public interest many many activists outside of the u.s. mr mallock magistrate's court here today said that the narrative of criminalizing investigative journalist let me also say that this 10 year old deal what it does it has a chilling effect on journalism worldwide and has essentially succeeded again today and intimidating journalists worldwide. and not it while you were there are no one i spoke to on monday when the extradition was brought jubilation outside because very different today. actually it wasn't so different we had
6:38 am
a very positive and really to pollute for following on from that really did follow through and today it really felt like many people were hoping for a better outcome for julian assange and as soon as that verdict was announced today pretty much all of the supporters suddenly drift off the police immediately try to remove them from the vicinity so it really does feel like it's definitely a devastating blow for sure we'll hear from supporters to. call while that he was going on. over the last few minutes but for now we'll leave it there but of course we'll come back to you throughout the afternoon the big breaking news here is that has been denied to. found as you mentioned his extradition to the u.s. a monday was brought course america. charges and is expected to appeal that to.
6:39 am
but that is the light. the americans then the shooting of course in connection with we can leaks revelations about us war crimes. i. play. does the owner of say any of the millions of.
6:40 am
wiki leaks he walks like a hospital told us sort of talks like a hot cold turkey. ok well to discuss this further than i would join in the. good afternoon obviously the us has been doing this for a number of years not giving up the case and they were opposing today's by a lot and they've at least one battle just run through in terms of background why they are so intent on bringing the u.s. for trial well 'd it goes back to president barack obama's 1st term and if you look at the espionage act which is basically behind all this which was something that many journalists suffered from when it comes to the u.s. justice system. it is really this some would say destroying america's image with
6:41 am
all the classified documents that julian assad once revealed from the war in iraq from the war in afghanistan everything that the entire world saw as a result of leaks revelations this was really something that infuriated you was politicians this was something that never changed under donald trump because we know that so many things president donald trump was doing completely opposite as opposed to the decisions or the things that were said by barack obama but in this particular case nothing changed and we remember the expectations by many people who were probably possibly hoping that president dollar trump might perhaps pardon julian assad at least at the end of his term we remember calls from the likes of edward snowden that never happened then and this led to the situation
6:42 am
that we're in right now so basically it's a limbo when again on the one hand we have the decision by the british judge not to extradite julian a songe to the u.s. but then at the same time he is not being released on bail but let's just look at the reaction that was coming from u.s. officials to the decision not to hand julian assad over to america. while we are extremely disappointed in the court's ultimate decision we are gratified that the united states prevailed on every point of law raised in particular the court's rejects of all of mr sanders arguments regarding political motivation political offense fair trial and freedom of speech we will continue to seek mr sanders extradition to the united states but just going back to the things that i was talking about before the stance of u.s.
6:43 am
leaders to key decision makers in this process we do realize that soon there is to be a handover at the white house and if we look back at what joe biden said back in 2010 when he was vice president in iraq obama administration he called julian assange a high tech terrorist so for a 3rd president so to say in a row in the u.s. we're not expecting anything to change and of course we understand that there is. likely to be an appeal from the american side when it comes to julian songe case and they perhaps will be pushing to the very end to get joyous songe to go through all these horrors as doing a sort of scheme a saying of the u.s. to a justice system we remember that he could be facing 175 years behind bars for revealing the things that you know war. that eventually ended to
6:44 am
this kind of situation for him. ok thanks that was just a bang ground to what happened and certainly why the u.s. has been in pursuit if you knew sanch over the last few years now right after i think we can actually get more reaction with a geopolitical and. patrick thanks for coming on short notice just firstly what sure reaction to the fact that has been denied by. i think it's completely outrageous considering the circumstances of his personal condition mental and physical but not only that just you know where he stands in reference to other similar cases so if you look at precedent law you look at other cases even in the british courts there's just plenty of examples that would say you know he needs to be granted bail right now there's terrorists that have been in the exact same position in terms of extradition proceedings who were tagged with ankle bracelets
6:45 am
and allowed to go home and you know basically have a fairly normal life with their family although somewhat confined and also tracked by g.p.s. tracker so i mean the arguments made by the judge vanessa berets are they simply don't conform with reality she's characterizing his flight a decade ago from what she calls absconding but in fact he was legally according to all international law and treaties recognized by the british government he was seeking political asylum which is your right so what this ruling says i think one of the big takeaways is is that the british court today has basically signaled that it no longer observes this part of international law or treaties on political asylum i think that is a major shockwave. should be reverberating right now people need to realize the
6:46 am
gravity of that ok was the u.s. wasn't that oppose this by an application and they were saying that look. a song has to go to great lengths to avoid extradition in the 1st place when he took refuge at the ecuadorian embassy was that the 7 years say you know why should we believe that he would do it to anybody with conditions. well again it's this is all about language and reframing of course this is this is the universe the ecosystem of legal ease in the courts and it depends how you characterize i think these songe legal team from the beginning from last winter when these proceedings began and while it's crown court in belmarsh prison they made an absolutely convincing case you know really adhering to all international treaties and laws in the u.s. prosecution has sought to undermine that at every turn and appears to have been really supported by the judge in vanessa berates or in their views so i mean you
6:47 am
can make you can make the argument from the u.s. prosecution and that's their job is to make that argument and to did not you know their client is the u.s. department of justice of course they want to keep him on ice and have him rendered to the united states but it simply doesn't conform with precedents in british past british decisions with other similar cases and nor that nor does it conform really if you look at the genealogy of this case with international norms and we are we constantly are told that it's a rules based international order it seems though those rules seem to be only applying to certain people at certain times and it really at the pleasure of whoever is really you know presiding is as the most powerful actors on the international stage in this case that's clearly the united states and its partner in the special relationship britain what i think many of his supporters will find strange is that all monday the case for blocking extradition was
6:48 am
a little genius on just health and the judge actually said it is a suicide risk if he's in prison and yet today he goes back to a high security prison. well quite quite right you you've illustrated the point perfectly not only that on top of what you just said there which is a very valid argument and certainly it's one that the defense is making the fact that under the guise of covert 19 under the the the atmosphere of the pandemic there are no visitation rights or right now i believe for belmarsh prison i may be wrong on that but i'm pretty sure last time i checked that's been suspended so he will not be able to see his family. in the near future for the 1st seeable future so i mean there's that plus you know certainly they'll be appealing again and then there's the issue of will he have access to his legal team which he has been denied
6:49 am
access to proper legal team to prepare for his defense at every turn really in the last couple of years that's also going to continue going forward certainly his defense is going to be appealing every every bit of this in terms of legal motions but but yes or the health issue i mean you have the extenuating circumstances of of cove it and that's going to increase their mental condition that the judge as you pointed out is ruling on just just yesterday so i don't understand really how this you know how this makes any sense it doesn't and again you've got a man who gave his own remand things not he's helping convicted he's home and then he's back in a high security prison that well that's another thing this is unprecedented it's going on now a year and a half unconvicted in a maximum security prison so again we're comparing him to serial killers murderers terrorists you know bombers and things like this he's definitely been classed in
6:50 am
that position so you know from that point of view the classification how the court is how the judge how the prosecution is framing joyce aunt is that of a high tech terrorist is that as you're. previous commentator stated just a few minutes ago and also that wiki leaks is framed as a hostile foreign intelligence actor and and indeed the prosecution just this morning brought up the point and made hay about the fact that wiki leaks had supposedly aided edward snowden in his flight from hong kong. to silent in russia and somehow that factored in as an argument so you can see the u.s. as you know trying and trying to push all of these sort of things that really have no bearing on the actual decision or how the court was going to decide today but they threw everything in and the kitchen sink in order to create this monster again that so not much has changed really that's the rule of the sad parts about the
6:51 am
decision today is there's you know the ball hasn't moved that much down the field in terms of his staunch defense and also in terms of how the media is framing him i mean there has been some positive coverage in terms of lot of people coming out the high level liberal left wing journalists and editors and people that were normally silent on this for a long time they've come out in his defense recently some papers like the guardian have broken ranks and finally said no he's probably not good for him to be extradited to united states but you know decide besides that the general framing of him by the legal system hasn't changed and so he's been treated as such as he's been labeled as a terrorist wiki leaks as a hostile foreign intelligence actor when in fact they're pretty much changing their proper classification which of course in a normal setting would be a press outlet would be a member of the 4th estate he would be a publisher and
6:52 am
a journalist and then would be afforded all of the rights. under under that title by the law that's recognized throughout history but that's not happening and so this is why we're in the situation we're in yeah i'm over also. in an indefinite period of time because how long will it be full and the pale will be good then how long will that a pale take over while isaan just sat where he was yet for the last time he is probably on monday he was thinking to himself i could actually walk free within a couple of days but all of that is being removed again psychologically it must be it must be told i have sure sure it absolutely is and not only that but it again the court of course the us prosecution but the british court is viewing his time in the ecuadorian embassy as absconding as a sort of an it illegitimate attempted asylum and quite amazingly in unprecedently the government of record or reverse their decision which is clearly documented it's
6:53 am
fairly well proven under political pressure there's no really argument that that happened so i mean he does qualify as a political prisoner under so many different bits of evidence and not only that the u.n. special repertory on torture has has weighed in has documented has ruled multiple times that his time in the ecuadorian embassy should be viewed as arbitrary detention and again his the last 18 months of his stay in belmarsh is an extension of that in fact even harsher detention and really he's been convicted he's like he said he's indefinitely on remand that's completely unprecedented for someone who's you know playing the role that he's playing in reality which is journalist and a publisher but has been reclassified through language and reframing as something else as a national security threat as a terrorist as
6:54 am
a flight risk in that sense so if he was a terrorist he was a bomber and he did you know he's guilty of some terrorist offenses somewhere and you know you are in this situation. and you know there were actual lives have been lost and so forth and he was deemed to be a pub if this was another person you could see how these arguments could be valid from the u.s. prosecution but but in fact of in the case of julia they're not nobody can make a sane argument that they would be so i think there's a lot of this is happening within the bubble within the confines within the what increasingly looks like a vacuum of reality within the legal system that doesn't really add here to you know what the realities are outside the court and i blamed part of this on the mainstream media who have been basically absent without leave for years on his own yes that is change patrick is just into the med because you know if you were
6:55 am
breeding age type is just about 5 years 6 kids there's a lot of support for change in the songs and then it just changed. yeah you know if you go back 10 years massive support and it changed and the reason it changed is clear it's because of the case that was sort of what looks to be a fabricated a sex crime case against a songe which was done documented now there was some degree of collusion between the swedish prosecutor's office and the british c.p.s. so i mean that's been leaked and that's documented now so there was some coordination there that didn't need to be dragged on but the fact that that sex case dragged on turned the entire left wing turn the feminists against julian songe a lot of journalists newspapers and people just didn't want to touch him in fact some of the people who are defending him now and it's great that they have stepped up but just you know 2 years ago they they weren't defending him some of the even
6:56 am
the high profile people because they felt it wasn't safe because they didn't want to ridicule from their peers and political cohort so they all backed off then obviously the worse the situation got and belmarsh a lot of those organizations which one could name they did step forward and they did sort of say ok this is a serious case i think they did that because when sweden finally dropped the sex case then a lot of it was kind of a green light for a lot more support to come flooding and thank god it did because you know i don't think he would have got the decision on monday that even the decision that the judge braids ruled i don't think that would have happened if not for the 2nd wave of support that's come for julius onto really in the last 12 months since the wall that proceedings so you know that's that's a testament to every single person who's come out to support him he's got an
6:57 am
increased they've been incredible support grassroots support base they have come out really that some people have been out there for years candlelight. vigils in front of the ecuadorian embassy right right the way through to you to now it's absolutely unbelievable it's a real grassroots movement and if there hadn't been the pandemic last spring and lockdown policies you know you would really see some serious crowds outside these proceedings right now i mean it would be thousands so it would be great as so i was going to just jump in that patrick and say there is a quick way out and that would be for a pardon from trying to be full generally the 20th. sure and this is a big question that a lot of people have is that going to happen what is that realistic politically i mean that would be sort of a parting shot from donald trump should his election challenges. fail this week and next week he's making a last stand in that regard that would be sort of
6:58 am
a parting shot to the establishment but of course he would be roundly ridiculed and probably forever branded as aiding a russian agent if he went and did that unless he's willing to take that hit i don't know if that's likely or not if that's possible if he's going to do that but certainly that would be. that would be a solution too to everything but that would really set the national security establishment probably large swaths of the pentagon establishment maybe some of his own support base within that establishment could possibly turn on him not because of it's a right or wrong issue is because they they themselves or even people within the u.s. permanent state is it as it were in washington a lot of them have been brainwashed by the same media misinformation about julius on ch over the last few years that the general public has a lot of the senators and congressmen in the us their views on a songe and wiki leaks really reflects their public their constituents views which
6:59 am
is really determined by mainstream media coverage so you can see the cycle of propaganda the cycle of reframing as it were on this issue in the public it's going to be reflected in the legislature as well and so there are that's how the u.s. census we're going to have to wrap it up there when you get to get your insight into all of this patrick henderson political analyst thanks for coming on. ok what's. the saying the colts and london tonight. just bring us up to date that. well always heard in the last few minutes the service of the church has denied bail for due to the sounds of course it is a devastating blow for his supporters and campaign this is just a statement from some of his greatest supporters including wiki leaks editor in chief chief christian to rest and he said it's a great disappointment not to release all the bells it's on just an honest they
7:00 am
said that they will appeal as soon as they can and of course the ruling few days ago don't i start you to songs such as you know i just think based on his mental health is deteriorating mental health thing at breaking point the fact that he has talked to the side of tennessee's numerous times every single day makes no sense to such in fact that very prison cell is inhumane and logical this will save us from the morrissey's a pot of tuna so just because this is happening to great defeats and even today because he said there was no closer to the break until he was grow apart and this is a really devastating cut off to just a few days off to what we had a monumental event for his campaign to hold it's not just a do this on to this office but also because this is worldwide right now i am sure trust for me to pay our respects to shrink murray to i believe.
