because of the. one sure deal. i. i. 4 people were killed in clashes that broke out from supporters stormed the capitol in washington the president elect and the violence with the incumbent urging his supporters to go home. threaten to the safety of duly elected officials. insurrection we can't play into the hands of these people. we have to have
12:01 am
peace so go. we love you. after the interruption congress reconvene to confirm joe biden is the winner of the 2020 lection those proceedings are in progress as i speak. world leaders have expressed deep shock at events in washington d.c. condemning the violence to some branding the scenes a disgrace to democracy. for the very good morning to you thanks for joining is a very busy morning here on r.t. international. 4 people have died amid the clashes that erupted when donald trump's supporters stormed congress debated certifying joe biden's victory he gathered in washington for a last ditch stop the steel rally in support of the defeated president according to
12:02 am
police one woman was shot 3 others died in medical emergencies and swung from america so the events unfold on capitol hill. well the atmosphere out here is absolutely incredible right now as you can see president trump is speaking addressing a huge crowd which is over by the white house but we're all backed up all the way to the washington monument we know that people were storming into the capitol we know that tear gas was fired and we also know that rubber bullets were fired but i was just showing video a minute ago it from inside the capitol of a young woman on a stretcher bleeding pretty proof usually she had a lot of blood on the side of her head on the side of her neck and. a. number of police and secret service were saying get back get down get out of the way she didn't heed the call and as we kind of raced up to grab people pull them back they shot her in the neck and she fell back on me and started to say she's fine it's cool and then she started kind of like moving weird and blood was coming
12:03 am
out about the neck and nose just behind me there are thousands of people there on the other side of me there are thousands of people so you know when when those folks moved from the from the trump rally and speech where we were before down at the washington monument and they began to move this way it's a sea of people. way up at the top of this building apparently there are still people attempting to break into the capitol building they are banging on windows up there. what we're seeing are a series of flash bangs that keep going off it's the upper part of this this platform area over on the left hand side back towards the building the young woman
12:04 am
who was shot in the neck or head area apparently was part of a 1st wave of people who pushed and you hear those why the way more of those flashes going off. so things are about to get a little bit rough here let's just pan over here next so we have the capitol police are coming through we've got to move on ok we're being told we have to move on by capitol police. it's a much quieter minus the police sirens you hear right there there are very few people out right now no you know last time we came to you all we got cut off because capitol police were moving everyone out what was happening at that moment was we saw the capitol police come essentially with their right shields.
12:05 am
can get more assessment of this now from a correspondingly paternity joins me in the studio violence is very dramatic scenes we'll get to them in a moment 1st of all let's get the very latest what is happening in congress because they all still working on their what's happening in congress right now well no you see the job needs to be done joe biden victory needs to be certified so no matter how unprecedented no matter how shocking and eye opening everything that we saw on the capitol hill and d.c. is we understand that congress god back to work and still you know even these crowds they wouldn't overrun the system so we heard the house speaker nancy pelosi say that the congress will keep go on for as long as it needs to and the vice
12:06 am
president who's clearly on the different side of the political front also sent a strong message to the protesters who stormed the capitol hill. to those who wreaked havoc in our capitol today. you did not win violence never wins freedom wins may god bless all who serve here and those who protect this place and may god bless the united states of america. let's get back to work. your knowledge. will not be interpreted. obviously mike pence the outgoing vice president above what is what has been the reaction from the incumbent president and the president elect joe biden well 1st of all i just want to mention
12:07 am
i mean we kept hearing pretty much from everyone that at this point how much the american society is polarized and divided that something unprecedented and there you have it perhaps this is the culmination this is the reflection of it all but then just to observe donald trump's behavior in this kind of situation that's of course interesting because the initial message from him was words of encouragement one point he even told his supporters remember this day forever in spite of the violence he later changed his tone but that video with these words of encouragement so to say it was deleted by you tube facebook and twitter in fact facebook and twitter even temporarily blocked donald trump's accounts for 24 and 12 hours
12:08 am
respectively and we even heard that his page could be deleted by twitter if donald trump continues posting things like that which is content that it's seen by the tech giants as something that violates their rules but i can tell you that at one point joe biden called all donald trump to go on national t.v. and call ms protestors down and perhaps this is one of the reasons when or why donald trump's tone changed so eventually we heard from both leaders both leaders but the president the incoming president that this has to stop and perhaps washington has seen too much of it. stormed the capitol to smash windows to occupy offices. the floor of the united states senate rummaging through desks on the capitol on the house of representatives threatening the safety of duly elected officials it's not protest it's insurrection the world is
12:09 am
watching like so many other americans we don't want anybody hurt it's a very tough period of time there's never been a time like this where. such a thing happened where they could take it away from all of us from me from you from our country this was a fraudulent election but we can't play into the hands of these people. we have to have peace so go home we love you you're very special. in the meantime in new york in times square pro biden protesters staged a demonstration of their own and they're not only demanding the president from leave the white house but they also want his indictment we've seen no violence there so far but we've seen banners. calling on donald trump to accept the results
12:10 am
of the election in november but any case 1st of all like i said the most shocking pictures are the ones that we were receiving from washington d.c. and at some point you look at it and this reminds you of some of these situations we've seen in other countries that are nowhere near the u.s. in terms of their history of democratic values and so on and so forth this is something that u.s. officials keep talking about as exceptional they want to set an example for different states in terms of how their democratic systems system works but what we have just seen as absolutely incredible and. it was that they managed to stop it at this point and like i said the certification process is on as we speak but that delay people storming the capitol hill this is really something that will be remembered for years and years and let's see what happens next because the this is
12:11 am
maybe not a game changer but definitely it will go into history books yeah i mean it's of the certainly we've never seen in our working lifetimes and it's going to need quite some discussion many thanks of. thing is rather today with me in the studio let's go live now to the founding editor of the online news site which couldn't be more appropriately named this can't be happening dave lindorff is the man in question it is happening and it is hard to believe it's happening and it's hard to even know what to ask and circumstances dave 1st of all that what did you make 1st the when you saw all this unraveling. well i mean i'm not surprised because you know you you take some people who are. you know fairly low wattage people who think that they are witnessing some kind of a saft of their rights and are told this by the man they they respect
12:12 am
demagogue trump and they you know they they really have very little banderas they came into town with guns they said they were going to come with guns the police were nervous and you know that i think that tended to. make them want to keep to cool it whereas you know had these been black lives matter people storming the capitol there would have been a massacre. by the police they held their fire they didn't want to get in shoot outs. and so we had this bizarre thing where you know and yet the sounds of people come in and then they didn't arrest them you know i've been on at protests at the capitol sit ins in representatives office the cops get called they haul you out they take your name they give you a ticket you have to go to court to clear it or pay a fine. you know they know how to do that they did not arrest these people they did
12:13 am
not you know when to take the people out the doors and take all their names take you know issue tickets that would cost them a lot of money why do you think it's not always the case dave and is this a slight reaction perhaps to the way that the police have been maligned so much in recent months for excessive use of force is this perhaps then saying well ok we'll give you what you want wait she's a more hands off approach. no i think the problem was that there weren't enough of them and there were all these people with guns they knew that these people you know most of the time protestors don't have guns. you know when when people on the left protest they don't have guns they they just come with themselves and so you know the police feel free to beat them up and cuff them and drag them off these guys were scary because they knew they were carrying concealed weapons they weren't
12:14 am
allowed to show them because then they would be arrested but they they you know they police knew they had them so i think it changed the tactics they had dia's the writ out sunny what the really important thing here that happened is that there were no national guard troops there and that's because trump would not authorized them to be there the mayor had asked for a national guard of the washington d.c. area to be to be ordered. out onto the streets and to boost the police and trump did not do it and the reason that the national guard finally were there but too late was because pence went to the pentagon and said to authorize the national guard he doesn't have the authority to do that so the fact that he did it and the fact that the generals listened to him even though they didn't get the order from the president who's the commander in chief trump
12:15 am
pence's not the commander in chief he's not the acting commander in chief he's nothing unless the president is incapacitated so for the for the fact that pence went in and said we need to authorize the national guard and call out some from some other states also you neighboring states to assist because they have an even more. means that something has actually happened and that is that gives. president trump is no longer the commander in chief for the last 2 weeks the generals are listening to pence that's amazing and that. i also would say is a very good thing because trump has been pushing for and doing a few things that are alarmingly suggestive of wanting to attack iran he really he ordered the nimitz to turn around it was being ordered out of the persian gulf and back to the states trump ordered it personally to turn around to
12:16 am
go back into the persian gulf so the aircraft carrier so. now i don't know what's happened with that order but. you know the fact that now the generals are listening to pence means that probably trump can no longer order on his own reliably order an attack on iran i think that the generals have made it clear now that they're going to listen to somebody else not to him. do you blame donald trump for what we've witnessed. that he encouraged the support and then kind of back until when things got out of hand. no not when they got out of hand he he he backed off after it was basically over he did not he he encouraged them to go up to the capitol he knew what he had told them to do coming into town to defend his election he he knew that they had come armed and he told them to go up to the
12:17 am
capitol and to defend the his his victory and so then when they went they did what they did and he was being called on by many people including many republicans to call him off he didn't call them off and only later did he tell them to be peaceful so yes he incited them like a classic demagogue these were the modern day brown shirts and you know and he was the one that they were listening to so yeah i think that. we're going to see the consequences for that you know impeachment can happen after a president leaves office so there's no rush to impeach him it you couldn't really impeach him and as people are suggesting in 2 weeks realistically but he could be
12:18 am
impeached after he's out of office and the reason you do that is because the punishment for impeachment in addition to being found guilty. of violating the laws of office you're you're not going to be removed from office because you're out but he would be barred from ever being elected to public federal office again and that would stop any possible lead come back of course that's exactly right they will have to wrap it up the fascinating to speak to that thanks for your analysis dave lindorff my guest founding editor of the new site this can't be happening. thank you for having me now one of the key states that term in joe biden's victory in this election was georgia where a runoff for 2 decisive senate seats has just been held they were won by democrats going republican georgia senators a plan to raise objections of voter fraud by and certificate debate but changed their minds after the violence that took over the capital and the scale of more
12:19 am
than breaks down the events that led up to that change of heart. how did we get to this point of all the chaos we've seen today on capitol hill well it started with the fact that the u.s. congress was scheduled to certify the presidential election results and set things in motion for joe biden to be inaugurated and donald trump called for a big rally of his supporters in washington d.c. to protest against that and perhaps try to stop that from happening at donald trump gave a speech to is supporters telling them that the election was rigged this is donald trump addressing his supporters just hours before chaos broke out on capitol hill does anybody believe that joe had 80000000 votes 80000000 computer votes democrats attempted the most brazen outrageous election set theft in this ever been a thing like this so pure theft we will never give up we will never get to see trump supporters are certainly the talk of the town the center of the action today
12:20 am
but if you look at the alliance of forces in the country they seem to have the deck stick pretty solidly stacked against them we're in a situation where as the chaos was happening the final results in georgia came in and the 2 senate seats in georgia have gone to democrats democrats have won control of the senate and so now for the 1st time since 2009 democrats will control both houses of congress as well as the executive branch that's a situation where the democratic party has a pretty solid grip on power meanwhile a lot of mainstream republican voices have been denouncing donald trump and opposing what happened today on capitol hill we have a situation where it seems like the country has been effectively polarized now polls among regular republicans show that among republicans 70 percent of republicans do support donald trump do want their elected officials to be more like trump however among the population at large that's pretty clearly not the case and
12:21 am
we've got a polarization where the country is. pretty solidly opposed to donald trump and that polarization has favored the democratic party the democrats at this point are set to be pretty solidly in control of both houses of congress and despite some pretty chaotic events on capitol hill it looks like for the moment as congress reconvenes and will go ahead and certify the election results donald trump and his movement has been defeated however it is unlikely that this will be the last thing we hear from donald trump or his supporters of course this is a global event and has been global reaction will it lead to his expressing shock of events seen in washington d.c. . on the scenes in washington d.c. this is not acceptable assaults on democracy and peaceful and orderly transfer of power must be ensured the violent acts against american institutions are a grave attack against democracy i condemn them the american people squeal and vote
12:22 am
must be respected disgraceful scenes and u.s. congress the united states stands for democracy around the world that it is not vital that there should be a place for overly transfer of distress to see news about drugs in and violence in washington d.c. orderly and peaceful transfer of must continue the democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverts its through unlawful protest i definitely disagree with the president elect of saying that this is not us this is not america this is exactly what america is it started with colonization of indigenous land genocide of indigenous people pillage of african bodies forced to work on stolen land continued with jim crow and then of course perfected with the southern strategy of barry goldwater lee at. water richard nixon a new king and manifested today in the form of trump is and this is so called america this is exactly who we are and it is
12:23 am
a call for us to really get introspective and to look at ourselves before we even have the temerity to go anywhere else on this planet to preach ideas of democracy and justice and righteousness we're hearing right now from european countries who are looking at this nation as if it was some banana republic and so the scenes are very very troubling but i have to say unfortunately not too shocking. the scenes of violence witnessed in washington smack of much this mean same throughout 2020 despite the pandemic the year was marred by large aggressive protests holkins takes a look back. 2020 has been the most surreal relentless and chaotic year in modern memory but despite social distancing lot of downs masks and curfews and global discontent still spilled out onto the streets that's right not even the strictest rules of stop protests which are actually growing in numbers compared to last year so which ones will go down in the history books what did they achieve and what's
12:24 am
next. george freud suffocated after minneapolis police officers knee was placed on his neck for 9 minutes months of us protests ensued racial tensions and riots in america are nothing new but this movement is different previously limited in scale and geography these involved millions of people of all creeds and ethnicities in all corners of the united states not to mention dozens of other countries around the world. aside from some symbolic statue toppling multiple police departments either states
12:25 am
and outs reforms in police tactics funding and accountability time will tell if the protests will be a real turning point or just another line in an endless list of race related flare ups. across the pond mainland europe also had its fair share of protests and not just talking about the perpetual yellow vests before the summer better roofs would have meant little to most in the west in august president lukashenko claimed a landslide victory and a 6th in office while the opposition cried foul what happened. it was unprecedented in better russian history.
12:26 am
to go i want to. be too much of it was little yeah it is i mean. hundreds of thousands took to the streets and declared strikes across the whole country using messenger apps to avoid police crackdowns literature and the holds firm while the opposition also refuses to back down. demonstrations last laments of me briefly stun security forces went back on the offensive the better with protests became a classic case of what i'll stop it will force meeting an immovable object while smaller rallies do continue however historic they've been changing the status quo
12:27 am
12:28 am
the protests the people are tired the pandemic seems neverending and the only thing to stop it vaccines for many are still unavailable or undesirable as governments bring in tough measures to tackle 2nd 3rd or is that already 4th waves vaccine passports fines and crackdowns on dissenters global frustration is set to rise and as we head into the new year hoping for a better 2021 how hard can that be with any luck the next 12 months will just pick up from where 29 teams left off let's just hope we stay safe and healthy whatever next year may bring. ok that brings up today thanks so much for joining me this morning plenty more to come here on out international lots more analysis of events in washington d.c. across the evening so we'll bring it out in about 30 minutes time.

the way of life for reindeer herding is leading a traditionally nomadic lifestyle tundra is similar to a parallel reality. that the men drive the women carry the weight of the household look on their shoulders to show them with their one also let the man. is thinking that's nice however in the vast expanse of russia there were a housewife could secure a regular employment status it's in the final. she's.

for years i had treated patients with heroin addiction with high dose methadone which is the appropriate treatment and so. i was thinking well i see how well that works for all these people and they don't tend to overdose on it or have a lot of side effects or have any problems so why wouldn't that be fine for pain patients i do recall individual young men who had a rough go early in life. without paulism was in alcohol recovery a number of back surgeries and i was in the middle of a tapering course switched him over to methadone for his other drug to ease his taper and using misguided conversion to.
