from across the globe welcome to. your company. russia is expanding its. nation program the aim is to get 60 percent of the population this year with more. tens of millions of people constantine. the vaccination point here is up and running and as you can see people are lining up for the naki lation i think there are at least a few dozen here but before i give you a quick tour around here let me take a moment and just to point out that this is probably the nicest place in moscow right now to take a jap i mean after all this is a russia's iconic most famous department store right in the heart of russia's capital now let's get inside. all right we're in so this is the
2:02 pm
reception desk morning and this is where you need to show your passport and that's about all you need to do to get a vaccine here the entire procedure should take around 45 minutes so 1st doctors need to verify you're in good health you're feeling well and then if you're on qualify for the inauguration then you should follow to that room over there i'm fine i just have a nature throat perhaps you just need to drink some water yeah i'll read you have i feel better now. or have you already thought about how your life will change once you develop antibodies. i hope it will change because i work in a museum we have lots of visitors so i hope my life will get better. i thought it was hurts more after the injection because this vaccine is supposed to be more serious than a flu job but i feel no difference it's just like every of the scheldt history i decided to get the job
2:03 pm
a while ago i was just waiting for the opportunity honestly i should have been inoculated in the local clinic but i just wanted to speed up the process because i want to be immune as quickly as possible. you know my husband and my friends took the job i have no reservations so i want to get it as soon as possible i think the more people that get it the greater impact that summation will have in the end this is where they are getting the vaccines to the people and the lady over here and she's just getting ready to receive a vaccine countries they're just going to say they need see i didn't know what show was day yet. you know our eyes are she's about to get the vaccine but she is. i think is he asked about that by the way this metal box over here at this is where all the doses are being kept the temperature is minus 35 degrees celsius and that's what you need for a spot nicky by the way there are 2 vaccines that are available in russia right now
2:04 pm
1st one called sputnik b. then there is another one called epi corona both are developed by russian scientists according to russia's health care officials the main goal right now is to develop herd immunity before the next fall because the jewish certainly it would love to have everyone get the shot and thus have no problem so far we have not been able to me nice people on such a scale from any type of infection but the fact that we will be able to get 60 percent of the overall population in the uk you late it in just the 1st year is a big achievement mass vaccination started in russia last december and according to those in charge are rolling. the jobs there are over 1000000 people here have been already taken a job health care and essential workers for the 1st to receive the vaccine and now they're trying to expand the list to get more and more people involved. as healthcare ministers said that the country is planning to run public scene distribution in other regions by another 2000000 doses of spot meat.

production. is being ramped up to make global the money we look at who's ordering later in the. health officials in california meanwhile are warning providers against using a bunch of vaccines from the farm. after a series of 'd allergic reactions in america's most populous state or u.s. correspondent kill up and told me more. vaccinations are in full swing in the state of california but from what we understand at this point the mcgurn of vaccine injections they are being halted and this is due to higher than usual adverse effects take a listen to what's going on in california fewer than 10 individuals who required medical attention over the span of 24 hours we are recommending that provide its use of that and they build accident density and pools the administration of

vaccines until the investigation by the centers for disease control and prevention food and drug administration madonna and the state is complete now all the incidents are said to have happened at the same community clinic and they are reportedly this clinic was closed for several hours after adverse reactions to the vaccine now what we're hearing from the state epidemiologist of california is saying that less data exists on adverse reactions to the under in a vaccine and that modern a is now reviewing the incident but it is rare for vaccines to trigger serious side effects now it's important to note that back in december there was an incident in boston where a physician he received the vaccine and within minutes started having adverse health effects allergic reactions that was back in boston so that incident is being looked into so when it comes to the state of california the numbers are worth looking at we've got 2900000 cases of coded
2:07 pm
193-3392 deaths so far daily deaths are in the hundreds from coded 19 this is how hospitals are dealing with it. i mean here 21 years that i've seen more people passed away last week. in the past couple of weeks really than i'd almost hate combined in all of my career as a nurse you just see them die they just die and then they fight dying and. so sad. yes i'm angry yes i'm upset but the only thing that we can do is 'd give them the reality of the situation which is that there is no room inside the hospital that we
2:08 pm
are making tens outside the hospital. now millions of americans are quite anxious for this pandemic to reach its conclusion so the vaccine is believed to be very key in that so basically any news about adverse effects are allergic reactions to the vaccine is something people take very seriously but at the moment vaccinations are in progress not just in california but around the country many hoping that things in the united states can start to move toward some notion of normality just continuing with this story i spoke with infectious disease specialist william schaffner he told me the cluster of allergic reactions in california to the mature in effect seen needs to be fully investigated. we know that these m.
2:09 pm
oron a back scenes are associated with more allergic reactions the last number i saw from the c.d.c. was 11 such reactions for every 1000000 doses so still rather rare but a grouping in one clinic that deserves further investigation did something unusual happen in that clinic or was indeed it that vaccines reported adverse reactions gives pause to some people but i think by and large 'd the vaccines have been shown to be safe and are wonderfully effective so across the country at the present time we have more demand than we have vaccines and so our program is rolling out and becoming more efficient we're trying to vaccinate more people more quickly. i want to bring you a related story to this a video of a woman suffering convulsions allegedly after receiving a cruel

a virus job in the u.s. is causing widespread shock and warning some viewers may find the following images the story being brant griner a resident of louisiana filmed his mother after she'd partly received a pfizer job in early january he claims that she hadn't suffered any serious health issues before taking that shot and speaking to our t. here is mr greiner. she said that the day afterward she woke up with a headache and she's had a headache every day since until today today's the 1st day she has had 8 but she started noticing. seizure like movements in a way your left leg 1st and it was 3 days afterwards and she was admitted to the hospital before days with she had no control over her legs when she was trying to walk doctors said they think it's the medals and the vaccine. is causing her to have the neurological reaction pfizer has said it's launched an investigation it's
2:11 pm
not the 1st time concerns have been raised over the safety of the job norway is currently investigating the deaths of dozens of elderly people who had recently received the pfizer vaccine brunt brunner ses their response he received to his video suggests his mother's case is not unique i've heard of other cases since i shared the video on facebook. thousands and thousands of people message me comment an average myself personally i haven't read all the messages but i read hundreds of them myself personally if people tell me their stories their daughters or sons their mothers or you know all member members of their family have had reactions share their vaccines our plot of some of whom you had a lot of messages that are negative say and this is your mom or you know you're lying or whatever negative comments you know it's it's not really something they're not trying to entertain too much i don't know want people wouldn't trust they want

a code vaccine to take away coded stains and get back to normal. let's bring it to britain where a group of researchers there published some alarming findings on krona virus patients according to the report one in 8 people hospitalized in the u.k. with coping 1000 delhi of related complications within months after being discharged well nearly one 3rd of patients who recover from the virus are taken to hospital the study also reveals some severe long term effects of covert including heart problems and diabetes we spoke with one of the scientists behind the study. not only does call it a virus. can cause death and most people are mission but there are clear signals here of associations between medium. affecting the lungs affecting the heart affecting the liver and also the kidneys and we need to get better at seeing and stratifying who are the people that we need to act ideally we need kind of our

suspension if we have it we need to make sure that we treat underlying conditions and we're monitoring these people to see if they develop and if they do develop for example diabetes or kidney disease we need to do more research to see how that progresses over time. argentina has received their 2nd birch of the sputnik the vaccine it comes as more countries across latin america opt for the russian covert looking into why that might be r t study a hawk and. whatever the science behind the covert vaccines other factors are at play politics being a key one it's no surprise that vaccine approval and distribution has been like a parliament divided along party lines countries are mostly sticking to their own before selling all of their neighbors north america and europe have made their own pitch while competing vaccines have been subjected to increase the skepticism
2:14 pm
scrutiny and smears so it may come for some was a surprise that much of latin america is leaning towards the russian option being the latest to sign up reduced ration of sputnik vaccine in paraguay proved the increasing interest of latin american countries in a safe and effective russian vaccine against corona virus we expect more countries in the region will also approve it soon and ready to create new partnerships to pool their foods in the fight against the pandemic. joins argentina bolivia and venezuela in placing orders and cuba are in talks to start local production with mexico peru and brazil also potential customers yes sputnik viz easy to transport and store it's also competitively priced but could there be another factor let's face it as far as the neighbors go do it politically north and south america are pretty much like chalk and cheese take venezuela and bolivia pushed into pariah
2:15 pm
state status over the years or cuba really designated a state sponsor of terror it was a matter of when lot if south american nations would start looking for friendlier countries to hang out with the 1st thing we have to look a here is the blockade against the malaccan american country in a case of benefit or york and a very limited i can we back in economically in the u.k. back in the american made back in there out of read you can be levied by work in that country. we can think of the the russian companies are far less think. the us unit of measure. in them from the us. an increase in the possibility to trade in with partners like venezuela countries traditionally closer to the united states such as mexico or costa rica have already opted for western designed vaccines brazil is there on the fence while plans to launch production of sputnik

v. are in place regulatory approval as been delayed moscow says it's just a temporary issue in connection with unreliable information that appeared in a number of media outlets about the refusal of an emergency registration for the sport make the vaccine in brazil we clarify that the national health surveillance agency has requested additional information regarding the sputnik the vaccine which will be provided shortly russia plans to expand sputnik the corporation in the region for many countries on the continent it seems like the best choice practically and financially and whatever the global politics at play in the upper echelons of power latin american nations agree and a pandemic like none of us have ever witnessed is protecting the people which comes 1st. naturally these issues are being politicized by many sectors personally or with washington who are politicized their distribution of the height of act into
2:17 pm
that country the pressure here in latin america but this is of course counterproductive to the interests of the people who are essentially looking to get the cheap vaccine quickest to safeguard their health and improve the health care system of the country so as i think of the some extent it was inevitable that the distribution of the rocky was going to be a political bite that the but i get this in order the detriment of the people living here in the continent. uppal is under pressure to block the messaging up a telegram seen as a leading alternative to what's up a washington based campaign group ers filed a lawsuit against the tech giant claiming the service is being used to spread extremist called telegram currently serves as the preferred new not see white nationalist communications channel fanning anti semitic and anti black incitement during the current wave of protests across america. the coalition for a city for
2:18 pm
a web group claims telegram violates up bills guidelines on user generated content and that it was used by the activists on rioters who stormed the capitol building earlier this month the group is planning a similar action against google to get telegram which was designed by russian entrepreneur public durand's block devices this all comes after a couple google took the social network parlor offline the accuse the platform which was popular with right. wing violent content telegram seen a surge in popularity since the capitol hill chaos the ups creator last week reported 25000000 new users in the space of 3 days that brings the total user base to more than half a 1000000000 on the heads of state at least 10 countries including brazil turkey france and israel are known to use telegram well to discuss the issue we're happy
2:19 pm
to welcome on to the program michael wrecked in malta author and former professor of liberal studies at new york university lauren chen host of the pseudo intellectual podcast jennifer muster attorney terror expert you're all very welcome to the program jennifer can we kick off with you the money leading this lawsuit is marc ginsberg a former u.s. ambassador he's claiming anti semitic content on telegram puts him in pearl as a jewish person and calls his emotional distress do you think there's any merit to his case. there's no merit at all to this case again this case is going against it's trying to utilize the law to go against the 1st amendment that's the freedom of assembly now you know a lot of these social media platforms and a lot of the people that are supporting the blackout in the shutdown of conservative voices are pro-choice voices or other voices that have been more conservative or more supportive of president trump the mash up down of them.
2:20 pm
resources not only like telegram but a parlor of others a lot of the people that support that have been stating that this is completely this is because these are private companies private companies are allowed to do this but the truth is that this is because they were merely outlets they were they were public aid they're not public they're not publishers but they're supposed to be platforms and they're not they're not acting as platforms anymore they're acting as an assembly place where people can come together they are very much going against certain kinds of narrative certain kinds of ideologies now in terms of this lawsuit it doesn't have any merit because it's trying to limit the freedom of speech is trying to limit that and while these are private companies there are still people that are able to are able to create unable to do that i don't see any other legal any legal theory where they can prevail in this lawsuit you know it's interesting some of the views michael about jennifer brought up there let's try and
2:21 pm
maybe on tongue some of it the group behind this lawsuit is saying aapl should treat telegram the same we're treated parlor but aren't these situations pretty much totally different telegrams an encrypted messaging up not a public social network. i mean there's they're similar in the sense that what we're witnessing here is the attempt a concerted effort on the part of this unit party democratic machinery to consolidate media in the hands of approved democratic party apparatuses this is a gesture that is part of a concerted effort to do this to consolidate all media and information platforms that to make sure that they're completely in compliance with the you know party messaging and that's really what's underway we see very similar things going on even on cable news now they're trying to get one american news and newsmax thrown
2:22 pm
off of cable t.v. networks here so all of this is part of a concerted effort to consolidate media such that we have a you know party state apparatus that is presenting a singular viewpoint and nothing else let's just pick up on that point from like oh do you think the tech giants are perhaps just trying to protect themselves on this stage anticipating antitrust action from the incoming democrats who are going to control congress. well i think that big tel for a long time now has absolutely been acting like a cartel we see coronated efforts being taken by amazon and google to take down for example parlor which was a main competitor to twitter and when we see them now kind of circling over other apps like telegram and now even mines which is another competitor to facebook and youtube you know they'll claim things like oh it's about safety it's about trying to take down violent threats i think that is absolutely i'm sorry but bullcrap i
2:23 pm
mean don't forget that on platforms like facebook there have been murders rapes and suicides live stream g. mail was infamous when it was being used by islamic terrorists to actually plan attacks by going into drafts and not actually sending messages this isn't about protecting anyone's safety or emotional well being this is about big tech trying to control the public discourse and actually going forward i would say that big tech is is feeling pretty safe and comfortable right now which is why they're taking so many actions against their competitors because i think they know at the end of the day that by an administration is going to be very friendly with them because they say they toe the same party line jennifer is this a dangerous game that we're seeing being played out essentially between democratic . want to call it the upper office but essentially the operetta loans of the democratic party and big tech could this come back to bite the liberal side of the u.s. when the conservative side have more of
2:24 pm
a say maybe in 4 years down the line they're not going to let this lie there could be a bug back. absolutely not only there's is there going to be a blowback from the public as a whole but there's going to be a bloke like in many respects 1st of all one of the things that they've forgotten with this entire big tech takedown of everything not only of apps of businesses of personalities of voices of their livelihoods is that we've forgotten the difference between subjective and objective and under law objective things are things that we can measure they are facts this actually happened you stole something from somebody whom it belonged to subjective is what they're trying to shove down our throats that is well this is hate speech or what is hate speech that's why america has been more reluctant to pass and he speech laws because now you have president trump they can say go and peacefully assemble here and that's what that's called inciting violence and so all of these themes are subjective so when they say as my colleague here said that that it's for the public safety it's all subjective so it just
2:25 pm
depends on whoever controls the reins whoever has the power at some point that pendulum is going to shift and now you've already set the precedent to allow anybody in the future to come back and say you know what we don't like your speech for shutting you out and by the way you're not going to be able to raise an income earning for your family because we will take you down that's the danger that michael just returning to telegram there are there are claims about a certain stages that became the preferred means of communication for terrorist group ngs including islam expats were found to have used that european police worked with telegram to take down a cunt associated with the group in 29 doing a much pause for concern does not give you. well i think those kind of groups should be taken to mean that the constitution ited states for example the 1st amendment does not protect speech that incites imminent violence that is absolutely not protected speech but that's a different thing than taking down those groups and taking out an entire app on the
2:26 pm
basis of these groups and then there's so much double standard here i mean there's 5 months that is constantly paraded around twitter and facebook these apps these platforms that are notorious for left wing threats and for inciting violence and for we're going to ising. and other groups black lives matter which undertook a man month rampage across the country and actually committed real world violence and yet nothing was done with them so this is late in apocryphally a double standard and it's really about consolidating media control and the ends of the you know party system lauren we did see in years gone by big tech attempt to fight back trying keep themselves independent it appears that was a road a little bit perhaps people working for those firms decided that they had more of a political bent down they made public before where does this and is there
2:27 pm
a merger between big tech political groups or will there be a concerted fight to keep the independents. i think we're going to be living in a world very soon where the political establishment and the big tech oligarchy are really one in the same and actually we see that already if you look at the upper echelons of for example facebook we see that some of the people on their trust and trust and safety team are actually former democrat staffers and i think the same can be said for places like twitter and google as well and of course you know a lot of these affiliations are never made public but they do exist so right now we see that the establishment is kind of i guess putting their fingers into every means of control that is available to them including big tech and you know i really have to cut the trumpet ministration and the g.o.p. for not taking action against this sooner we've heard a lot of talk about oh antitrust this and you know federal probes that but at the end of the day nothing has come of it and now unfortunately i think we may be at a time where it's too late to take meaningful action against these mega giants that
2:28 pm
are really controlling the public discourse not just the united states but for so many countries ok we have a rather minute left if you'd if you'd like to offer up a few final thoughts to feel free jennifer. just to say that we have to be careful because now that the upper echelons the political elite the political establishment and a lot of people in america i think would now say that there are g.o.p. years that are still part of that same establishment regardless of what party affiliation you have but the democratic elite the political elite that even some of the g.o.p. elite but we're looking at these same ones with these tech giants who are trying to silence voices and i think i think now we're seeing a greater danger than we thought before because if these people had these entanglements have these and then they can set the rules because as my colleague here said earlier there is there is there is not protected speech for inciting violence but again that's subjective and so when they know when the elites know what that is and they can absolutely go against it and say you know what we're going to tell you we're inciting violence just because we don't like your opinion
2:29 pm
that we are right i'd of time thank you all very much for a spirit of the scotian learned a lot as always michael wrecking wall author former fester of liberal studies at new york university lauren chan host of the search to intellectual podcast jennifer to master attorney to terror expert thank you all thank you had always a story will be following across our social media channels to live from moscow this is r.t. goodbye for another. join me every thursday on the alex salmond show and i'll be speaking to guests of the world of politics sports business i'm showbusiness i'll see them. seems wrong. just don't. get to shape
