if you. take. the newly inaugurated american president joe biden for unity in the country should you do at the same time big continues to deep love for the individuals in even cutesie their competition and still others are calling for trent supporters to be. really. in the headlines this hour the russian and u.s. presidents hold their 1st phone conversation since joe biden's inauguration covering a raft of topics from weapons production to the pandemic. iran approves russia's covert vaccine are now plans joint production the exclusive interview with r.t. the country's foreign minister tells us why iran's bankings but may be.
3:01 pm
separately india says it's nearly ready to approve the russian vaccine with the country's most go envoy saying he's already have the job. be expected in the next couple of weeks. think regime after is that it. will be available for use in india. spares vaccine vexation between britain and brussels are there still aching around whether supplies these the u.k. call out to the e.u. supplanted tightly controlled medicine exports. very warm welcome for my team here in moscow you're watching r.t. international with me he. thought about putin and joe biden have held their 1st
3:02 pm
phone conversations since the new u.s. president's inauguration and they touched on a number of hot button topics let's go live to caleb moore put in new york for more details now caleb what came up in this 1st top level conversation. well it was the 1st phone conversation between the new president of the united states joe biden and the russian leader vladimir putin now the phone call from what we understand was initiated by joe biden joe biden did make the phone call and much of the conversation focused on renewing the new start treaty now this is one of the important nuclear arms agreements that was signed at the conclusion of the cold war and it was set to expire on february 5th and from what we understand biden and putin have agreed to extend this treaty the new start treaty will be extended now a number of nuclear treaties were set to expire and did expire under the trumpet
3:03 pm
ministration the i.n.f. short range nuclear treating the clear skies treaty did expire this was actually the last of the important nuclear agreement that was preventing a new arms race but biden and putin did reach an agreement we understand that putin has now put forward a bill to the russian russian duma the russian legislature to extend the treaty for 5 years there was a statement concluding and summarizing the phone call from the kremlin here's what we heard the president's expressed satisfaction on reaching an agreement on the extension of the strategic arms reduction treaty in the coming days all the necessary procedures will be completed to ensure the further functioning of this important international legal mechanism for the mutual limitation of nuclear missile. now we understand that president joe biden did emphasize the need to hold russia accountable for what he referred to as malign activities and he also raised the issue of the russian oppositional figure alexina valving now there's also been
3:04 pm
a statement from the white house summarizing the phone call and take a listen to how the white house described things. president biden made clear that the united states will act firmly in defense of its national interests in response to actions by russia that harm us or our allies the 2 presidents agreed to maintain transparent and consistent communication going forward so it seems that there is a difference in emphasis here at this point of the white house seems to be emphasizing calls for holding russia accountable putting russian pressure on russia cetera however russia is celebrating the fact that it appears there will be an extension of the start treaty the treaty that would prevent a new arms race and after a number of nuclear agreements expired under the trumpet ministration this is certainly a change to have these start treaty be renewed is certainly
3:05 pm
a change of pace as as there were a number of nuclear treaties the did expire under the presidency of donald trump so a difference in emphasis between the 2 leaders and how they're summarizing the interaction that they had but the phone call did take place and it seems that the new president of united states is engaging with the president of the russian federation. thank you for the state house that's been speaking to his life from new york but with us next to see what we might be able to read into the conversation let's go live to retired u.s. air force lieutenant colonel karen create thank you for joining us on the program the carrot it all sounds like a cool deal starts cannot momentum continue to do you think. well it would be nice if it would it's not clear to me. the advisers that joe biden has around him they are recycled from the obama administration and their season it was 4 years of anti
3:06 pm
russia propaganda or hype or whatever you want to call it when they were attacking trump of course for 4 solid years from 2016th to the present so these advisors may not be as flexible they may not they may be more biased than what we have seen in the past and so it's not clear. how that biden ministration will emphasize things but it's certainly good news to hear that they're extending for 5 years this last treaty and i think maybe they'll look into maybe really refreshing and maybe rewriting a little bit the 2 treaties that expired under the trump administration oh well joe biden himself has been an outspoken critic of the russian president in the posse even calling him a k.g.b. thug didn't that relations can get past that kind of thing go does it signal there's a lot of diplomatic ground today. well there's certainly a lot of diplomatic groundwork to do and i'm not sure that the staff around biden
3:07 pm
or by them biden himself is really capable of that kind of sophistication that would need to be applied. very much the messages if you could see from the u.s. and white house report of that phone call the emphasis was we're going to hold you know we're going to russia is not going to mess with us russia is going to be held accountable for all the evil deeds that they do. that's a message for the domestic population which honestly. you know he's feeding his he's feeding meat to his dogs. and that is not a sign of a sophisticated foreign policy certainly the phone call this early in the stage of the game is a good sign and it's interesting how the statements issued from the 2 countries off the phone call deferred isn't it the kremlin and for sizing the cooperation that was discussed but the white house focusing on differences division and aggression i
3:08 pm
want to put that down to. well this is ministration the new good ministration and joe biden in we have been told that over 80000000 voters of you know affirmed. his election that means he's very popular president with a great strong mandate. the problem is the reality doesn't seem to be there he doesn't seem to have the mandate that you would assume that he would have he's very old. he's he is. he has made so many missteps even in his own campaign that i don't think people have a high sense of trust in his leadership certainly and foreign affairs so he's going to deemphasize that as much as he can that is that is going to be a we carry for him he has also surrounded himself with recycled obama anti russia. type advisors and again these folks are in the prime they are in they are not 70 years old they are in their prime and they will push hard for. an agenda which i
3:09 pm
think is recycled america on top which. those days are gone. i think anybody that that studies empires and studies our country's history and the direction of the world can see that biden's people do not see that so in a way they're struggling they're making an uphill battle to create enemies where maybe those enemies either don't exist or just don't matter on a positive note the prolongation of the star 3 arms control treaty wasn't was the much anticipated what does it mean for international security. well it should be a good thing all of these treaties are very old and as i've said before on this program and elsewhere i don't think that the sides the signatories to these agrees to the treaties in the past have totally abided by them i know the united states has has stretched the limit of interpretation of what those treaties allowed and
3:10 pm
didn't allow for actually the intermediate nuclear weapon in this these we have stretched delimit so there's i think that goes on on both sides so i would like to see. a lot more talk a lot more new maybe new treaties that really are adapted to where we are today and 2021 and where we're going to be in 2030 as opposed to recycling these from you know 20 years ago but it's still a good sign because if the communication stays open and we send our bureaucratic teams to to work with the russians a bureaucratic teams to come together with new language and new commitments towards limiting and controlling these weapons that would be a good thing and. i think even obama's advisors will see that they can make a name on that and they made they may be good with that but at the same time the name calling the really what i would consider to be very weak intelligence that
3:11 pm
points the finger at russia on a number of issues this needs to be straightened out and i don't see that i don't see that happening in a biden ministration i hope it does but i don't predict well let's hope for the best retired u.s. air force lieutenant colonel karen quick thank you very much for your time. thank you for having me. another one of our top stories now iran has become the latest country to approve russia's sputnik the coby vaccine and hopes to play a part in manufacturing the medicine to an exclusive interview with r.t. the iranian foreign minister explains why his nation has chosen the russian vaccine over the western alternatives here's some of the interview which airs in full here on thursday i think it was a public health problem with some political can considerations about the intentions of the united states and the lack of trust which is which is very clear we have
3:12 pm
a very bad experience with another western country that i do not want to name they send to iran. blood. white us. and so a lot of people needing blood transfusion didn't need to investigate it further but that was certainly a major public health problem in europe we will get. russian the russian ric's vaccine we will get the chinese rock scene you're in close touch with all of them be real good in the end of a vaccine but our own iranian produced vaccines went through the 1st cycle of human. clinical testing and we hope by june we will be able to use our own way. well separately the mexican president has described the job as evidence of scientific progress adding that his country hopes to get millions of doses within weeks. we spoke with the president of the russian
3:13 pm
federation vladimir putin and he was genuinely affectionate i invited him to visit mexico and thank him for the decision to send us 24000000 doses of the sputnik vaccine over the next 2 months. well meanwhile in india the final stage of sputnik the clinical trials are well underway in the country's ambassador to moscow as they say he's already taken the job himself i took it last week. the 1st also sputnik roxanne i feel perfectly ready many of my colleagues in the embassy have done so as well and i'm. absolutely certain that this is part of the normal. precautions that we take her during the pandemic situation just as we were at a mosque we have sort of distance but it is also good to pick scientifically proven back scenes and of course the sport piggybacks ian is one such works in. approval
3:14 pm
of sputnik v in india could come within weeks once they complete the trials and dia is also considering making the job on its territory for both domestic and global demand the country's envoy to russia told us why new delhi got involved doesn't come as a surprise that we have a such a long tradition of cooperation between india and russia their cooperation continued during the cold print of me so grand the idea. was to kill the material for approach the indian authorities or the testing of the sputnik alexy this was really come to an india the space to close off for picnics you have been completed history commenced and be assured that us we are still very clear to your proofs are given in india it will be available for use in india. i am used to finally. cover the rocks
3:15 pm
a nation of 300000000 indians so it is one of the largest wrecks the nation programs in the world but at the same time we wish to reach out to your friends and neighbors and we have done so be have given the nation doses. supplies have been sent by air to an apollo booked on bangladesh myanmar shows maldives and this is just the beginning we do not believe in vaccine competition we do not believe in vaccine nationalism we believe in rexy and cooperation and friendship and we intend to extend our hand of friendship will support for the explanation programs of a number of countries. who are in need of and in the book who are going to double the ritual as people and i'm sure in the weeks ahead they will be cooperation between india and russia on the global vaccination programs and there will be great
3:16 pm
potential for cooperation because a number of the vaccines that are produced in india will also be used abroad and they're really include the russian sputnik rock scene that would be produced in india. has been in touch with a number of very good indian companies to take this forward and we expect in the next couple of weeks sputnik rocks enough to use the regulatory approval or will be available for use in india and also for export to russia and other countries. another lens and a 3rd night of anti lockdown riots on monday is so fires lit police vehicles burned down the windows smashed in protest as some of europe's toughest private restrictions which included an overnight curfew.
3:17 pm
more than 180 people were arrested in the latest on rest in amsterdam and watertown where shops were vandalized and looted local officials and the prime minister have condemned the violence as a criminal some fearing the unrest puts the country on a path to civil war. but meantime a sponge over vaccine supply is rumbling between the u.k. and the e.u. britain's vaccines minister has his house of brussels decision to control exports calling it vaccine nationalism and wrong it stems from european politicians accusing the british swedish drug company astra zeneca of diverting probably vaccine supplies to other countries here's our europe correspondent peter oliver. governments across europe are struggling to bring down the number of cases of
3:18 pm
covert 19 and the number of fatalities from the fire that's the spy putting in place lock downs and restrictions on people like those that we've seen in the netherlands that have resulted in on breasts they're the latest issues that we're seeing a regarding the logistics of getting the vaccine where it needs to go there simply isn't enough being produced at the moment to put into people's arms that a spot is a rope thing between the u.k. and the b u which is ended up with the u.k. vaccines minister accusing the european union of vaccine diplomacy vaccine politics whatever you want to call it he's got a name for it vaccine nationalism is the wrong way to go we've got to make sure we protect our own people and then actually you know put our you know leaning as far as we can to protect the rest of the world to deal with the shortfalls in the number of vaccine doses available the european union has said that it wants
3:19 pm
pharmaceutical companies to inform brussels whenever vaccines manufactured inside the european union are to be exported outside of the block well that really could end up resulting in delays to vaccines arriving in the united kingdom that's the concern in london despite 10 downing street playing down the idea of a vaccine war it's clear from what we just heard from the vaccine minister it is causing some concern now there's also concern over vaccines coming over way earlier on we heard from astra zeneca the past oxford based part a year based pharmaceutical company saying that they were going to cook the number of vaccines expected to be delivered to the european union in the 1st quarter of 2021 by a whopping 60 percent that did not go down well in fact it resulted in. and the european commission president coming out and saying that well they needed to
3:20 pm
get the vaccine that they paid for she also data is ations that perhaps some of these vaccines may be going to the highest bidder as opposed to those that it signed contracts like the you to get them in the 1st place lash sums we're invested to build research cap acid teas and production facilities early europe invested billions to help develop the world's 1st covered $1000.00 vaccines and now the companies must deliver they must honor their obligations. and this is why we will set up a vaccine export transparency mechanism make no bones about it the european commission and fund the line personally extreme scrutiny across the european union for the way that the vaccine program has been dealt with what we have is a situation whereby the vaccination program in the e.u.
3:21 pm
is being late silly slow if you compare it to countries like the united states and the united kingdom which has done particularly well it isn't looking too great the way that vaccines have been rolled out across the book and there are a lot of people asking a lot of questions why that is the case it's unsure of course whether the between the e.u. and the u.k. is the way to solve that particular impasse. on the way thousands of kind of banks seem doses are wasted in spain as the country faces the last confessional syringes to extract old times that is from each vial and some of our story still ahead on international stay with. us we'll see who would be most impacted by having on realized gains tax the so-called wealth tax would they not be incentivized to do agree style collapse
3:22 pm
and property from the credit default swaps but on america we always said that once they were successful in destroying greece they would move on to other countries in europe and it would eventually get to the u.s. is that day now approach. the world is driven by a dream shaped by. dare's thinks. we dared to ask.
3:23 pm
welcome back the hate speech acts has fallen on another social media presence this time facebook taken down a group called patriots against joe biden it was allies to the conservative new science this scoop whose founders have also had their personal profiles permanently banned here's how facebook explained this decision. patriots against has been removed for violating our terms of use page is that a hateful threatening obscene not allowed we also take down pages there's an individual group or the sits on authorized individual the big tech purge ramped up a gear earlier this month when donald trump and some of his closest allies found themselves silenced by twitter facebook and other platforms many conservatives
3:24 pm
flocked instead to twitter rival parlor but that to sell foul of the internet's gatekeepers 1st it was dropped by apple and google's app stores then armisen pulled the plug on hosting the website on its cloud service facebook bans the page of a group for disillusioned democrat voters or relative new kid on the block telegram is under fire now to an incest safety campaign group's making legal moves to get apple and google to drop the messenger app saying it's failing to filter out extremist activity the man behind the scoop website told us that social media bans will only see people move elsewhere to share their opinions. we made the patriots against joe biden group after the capitol riots several days after and we had a strict clause in the about section of the group this group is about peace we reject all violence they still say it was extreme they shut down the group and they banned me from facebook permanently the scoop we're small organization we're doing
3:25 pm
well but we're not big funded media and we need to depend on these social media companies to make money we've barely ever gotten any strikes on our pages and this is pretty much our 1st warning and we were taken down i think it's just because the social media companies want to defend joe biden they're so terrified about what happened happened in the capital and they're using that as cover to just purge all conservatives on social media is there a clear distinction between energize free political speech and the aggressive and dangerous tribalism which any civilized society would expect it to be neutered online you know the problem is very difficult i understand that before social media when we would have discourse it would be in person with the shelter of the internet it obviously allows for people to have cover and be a lot more extreme in what they say i don't know what the solution is but banning people from social media because you think they're too extreme is not the answer people are moving to platforms like telegram to parlor if you ban people for their speech and they don't think they didn't think it wrong there to keep on moving to
3:26 pm
other platforms. despite an overdose so to vaccines many doses of the pfizer job in spain have been wasted that's because the country lacks the special so when just need to to extract a low dose is from live via a medical experts broke down the problem in a bit more. they have already talked about the 6 and even 7th toes it's not possible with all the royals. we have to be prepared for that and use more expensive syringe just and usually it's a lot of money and records more cautions just. so while the 165000 doses of the fine is the shots have been given so far in the counseling region an estimated 10000 doses have been wasted on the shortages could it be worse had it not been for the fact that some we do have the right needles the country is going through some of its toughest times and our 3rd wave of the pandemic daily infection rates hit a new high last week salvador payroll again stays the shortage of vaccines has
3:27 pm
outlived 5 the problem. the main problem is that the number of vaccine supplied under the agreements and procurement of the european commission is still very small and i believe that until new vaccines are allowed their numbers will be significantly lower than we and the rest of the european union needs now the european mouth since agency is changing the technical detail induces per hour as soon as the labels changed they're going to give us 20 percent less those of us than we should have because any mistake means a loss of dos i think what this really means is a 20 percent increase in price. thanks for joining us here on r.t. enter national day of it you can have your say on any of our stories by following us on instagram and in your comments that we're back at the top of the hour see that.

right now there are 2000000000 people who are overweight or obese it's the 4th little to self and thirty's and sugary and salty and addictive and it's not at the individual level it's not individual willpower and if we go on believing that would never change this obesity epidemic that industry has been influencing very deeply the medical and scientific establishment in the us and what's driving the obesity epidemic it's corporate profit.

i'm max kaiser this is the kaiser report wow. you know what margin debt is racing to new all time highs what's going on here stacy gray max remember those days when we spoke in often and that was when we had the bond vigilantes on the gold vigilantes and what they would do is they would battle the government about you know how much the government could spend and then the bonds and gold vigilantes disappeared but they've come back as leverage hits vigilantes they're front running all of the disasters that they themselves create as a way to make money it's an easier way to make money than trying to force the government to behave you force the government to go crazy right time to worry about stock market leverage again another what the heck signed the zoom has gone nuts
3:30 pm
margin debt the amount of money that individuals and institutions borrow against their stock holdings spiked by $56000000000.00 in december after having already spiked by $63000000000.00 in november by far the 2 largest month to month increases on record to $778000000000.00 according to finra which regulates brokers and exchanges since march this measure of margin debt surged by nearly $300000000000.00 of rice 62 percent margin debt and margin requirements of course are something that you have spoken about often as a way for the fed to actually if they really wanted to regulate bankers they could raise margin rates right well going back to the crash of 29 of course that was caused by margin right so people were allowed to put down 10 percent and buy stocks and so when the 1929 crash happened it started slowly but it caused margin
