develop an effective covert vaccine. and taxis it could soon be taking to the skies over moscow as a russian startup tests its latest innovation our correspondent to point out 1st then. city traffic is no longer an issue instead of driving along congested highways this taxi should take you from aids by. broadcasting live direct from our studios in moscow this is our international i'm sean thomas certainly glad to have you with us and now 2 of spain's most populous regions have halted their covert vaccination campaigns over an e.u. wide supply shortfall madrid and catalonia have used up almost all of a global supplies and local officials believe brussels is partly to blame. we must
6:02 pm
stand up to brussels and demand more doses we need more vaccines and more tests and everything that distracts from this tosk will prolong the fight against the virus or madrid and catalonia have administered almost all of able doses and all remaining supplies are needed to provide 2nd doses to people who have already received a 1st shot head of spain's vaccination association says it is a nationwide problem so. the number of doses we're receiving has been significantly reduced the vaccine is not being delivered to the rate that we anticipated it's a real problem for the national vaccination plan and it means a ton of us regions will have to review their strategies the supplies who do half will be needed to give 2nd doses to those who have already started the vaccination process so we will not be able to knock you other vulnerable and increase groups that were identified in the original plan it's a difficult and uncomfortable situation the czech republic has halted its

vaccination campaign for 2 weeks over a lack of doses and it is a picture playing out across the e.u. we're just 2 percent of people have been vaccinated far lower than the numbers in the u.k. and u.s. and with vaccine makers pfizer and astra zeneca reporting major production delays there is no solution in sight the spanish vaccine chief again thinks the e.u. should have done a better job of securing early supplies from the pharma giants. i do not like the lack of transparency with regard to the contracts that the european union has concluded with pharmaceutical companies we don't know about of them we don't know the purchase price we don't know anything at all and i think that's wrong of course we're concerned that apparently those countries didn't purchase vaccines in a higher price than the european union have not experienced such delaying delivery we are not at all satisfied with the current situation. that's where the british

prime minister is facing renewed scrutiny over his handling of the pandemic after the country passed a tragic milestone of 100000 covert related deaths boris johnson has admitted to government missteps but so far resisted calls for a public inquiry there to be no doubt it has been no doubt that either the government take full responsibility for all the actions are you've taken we've taken during this pandemic to fight this disease the u.k. is the 1st country in europe to record 100000. we also the deepest recession of any major. us calls clues on how borders are open my biggest concern is that the prime minister still hasn't learned the lessons of last year and i fear that as a result we'll see bull tragedy of more grit milestones in the past
6:05 pm
week alone more than 8500 people have died from covert 9000 in the u.k. and the government is rolling out ever tougher restrictions the lockdown has been extended for at least 3 weeks and people cannot go out without a valid reason all public gatherings are banned and police are getting tougher on those who step out of line but as a partridge explains sometimes the rule breakers are the officers themselves. the coronavirus pandemic has changed just about everyone's professional lives and the police are no exception the u.k.'s on armed forces have repeatedly come under the spotlight for trying to do their job which these days include cracking down on illegal gatherings under the lockdown wards these range for raves to birthday parties whiting's and even baby showers. baby showers. are. provided for because you're all here so obviously you're breaking covert roles we can't fight every adult here every single one of you 2 under par that is london

metropolitan police chief superintendent stephen trainmen condemns the party goers and warned there would be consequences london's police are almost daily posting videos of officers shutting down illegal gatherings oh oh oh 0 7 000-0000. oh i thought the british really do ok for you. they want to be one of the sisters very surprised as examiner certain stores are ok because of their national logs are aware of the you know exam to google to a little circle with all the people the aim is to publicly shame people and prevent others from doing the same except that message doesn't seem to have reached 31 of their own officers caught flouting the law while on duty just to get a haircut if you're eating their superiors and seeing each of fending officers slapped with a 200 pound fine it is deeply disappointing and frustrating of my officers have
6:07 pm
fallen short of the expectation to uphold covert 1000 regulations i hope this action proves that police are not immune to enforcement of the rules more embarrassingly for the met it happens barely a week after 9 officers were fined after being spotted having breakfast together in a london cafe since march the police have issued $32000.00 fines across england and wales penalties row shoppy jury indians november looking to. almost 6500 penalties were handed out as police move more quickly to enforcement find started 200 pounds in england in northern ireland but the government intends to increase these to 800 pounds for illegal gatherings of more than 15 people but with crackdowns getting tougher police federation's are calling on the government to ensure that officers are at the forefront of the facts the nation roll out the public expects police officers to put themselves in harm's way and i believe that it is only fair to expect that these same frontline officers get prioritised for vaccination over the
6:08 pm
last 2 weeks alone 5 london police officers have died from corona virus the pandemic has left millions frustrated anxious and impatient months of isolation mean people want to see family and friends and to let their hair down and the police are being left with a very public tosk of not only ensuring everyone else is safety but setting the personal example of how it should be done while i think the police across the world are in very difficult situation with this so with the codes restrictions because it's it goes against the grain completely for police to interrupt parties and things but of course those are all the laws and the legislation and police officers realise that no pay to do that and i think that's what's happening it's it's a really weird time this goes against all the all the training all the things that we we over many over a century or so have tried to do which is give people their freedoms but people act
6:09 pm
within the law but of course these loaches to this legislation has put them in a very difficult position meaning that they've got to interrupt such things as baby showers and wading and other things which goes really against all the things that they've done over the years i thoroughly believe that police officers should be vaccinated because they are being asked to not only be around lots of individuals themselves so that they're out there in colleagues they have to be in bands were. colleagues they have to be in the police station but they're also risking people in the street and in people's houses so that our forefront. and needs to have a decent society that they they have the vaccination as early as possible france was once the world leader in vaccine development now the failure to develop its own covert shot has become a source of shame for the political establishment parties charlotta been ski reports. france has a little in famous history when it comes to vaccinations i mean after all the
6:10 pm
so-called father of even your logy is louis pastor the french microbiologist so it's been a base of a blow that the institution that bears his name failed to find a viable vaccine it's described its own results as disappointing in these trials involving the 1st administration to humans the vaccine candidate was well tolerated but the immune responses in juiced by the vaccine were inferior to both those observed in individuals who recovered from natural infection and those observed with the vaccines currently authorized for covert 19 the vaccine they were attempting to produce was less effective than no natural immunity who hits hard and it seems the french are really feeling it the fear yes indeed it is real because when pester it cannot get out a dose of the vaccine that is amazing so i think it is incompetence it's everywhere or maybe there are too it's a competition between different trades well they didn't find the right immediate
6:11 pm
solution yes it's a shame but hey it's live that's a key x. and they will do better communication i'm not sure after all it's more important that everyone in the world has the same objective it's true there are concerns about making money on the vaccines and things like that politicians too are crying out with worry that france is losing its standing in the world it's a sign of the decline of the country and this decline is an acceptable but this decline is not because france isn't producing will cost scientists know it's because of the brain drain so it's not acceptable that our best research or the most brilliant of our researchers are sucked up by the american system i was blaming reductions in public funding for vaccine research so there is that people in paris think to towards the middle of the crisis they finally woke up. they put some resources aside but there is still more that can be done by changing the
6:12 pm
economy a little especially at ministerial level they could save a little there are probably things that can be done to simplify our system so that there is more funding probably we could remove some administrative flayers that have accumulated over the years given the money where you will to spend in other areas armament and all that i would be surprised if it was a fund and problem i think its management issue may be more than a funding issue meanwhile what's been called france is the last major pharma group sanofi is struggling to bring to the market its vaccine can did it which won't be available before the end of the year for now sanofi is helping libels pfizer bio tech manufacturing more of their job so it's even ski r.t. paris levanon has been gripped by a 3rd night of anti lockdown unrest and hundreds were injured as rioters torched and vandalized property in tripoli.

military police fired tear gas and water cannons in response as the protesters threw stones and tried to break into government headquarters lebannon hasn't been on total lockdown on round the clock curfew since mid january the country's caretaker prime minister earlier said the restrictions are vital to curb the spread of infections local journalist omar was at the protest for. what about if there were lead at this end it is the 4th day of the protests in tripoli a lot of protesters have gathered to trying to march to the local administration building and storming as happened on previous days and security forces are using tear gas grenades to stop the protesters but it's not stopping some of the protesters from throwing the grenades into the windows of the provincial headquarters and some officers have been hurt as a result of protesters have been dispersed from the square with tear gas and some of them are trying to hide in the surrounding areas the lebanese army has
6:14 pm
surrounded the area but for now the army is not taking any action yesterday it got involved after one person was shot with live rounds his funeral was held today right now the situation is stable and there are some small clashes from time to time and it seems like the army is waiting for serious clashes to get involved some time ago it used armed force to and block the road to tripoli. the head of the lebanese red cross had told us how tough life is right now. many years you want to do it and you do that we have to get back we got a call. and people are fighting crime gardening they need to be there to help them to see how they can manage. today no hospital. and. you have not get to spend at. the end there have we had facing

welcome back this is our to the international the us computer games retailer game stop has seen its share skyrocket recently despite bets against the stock from wall street to trading companies the rally has been driven by a large number of small investors the company had seen its shares falling for years which drew the attention of wall street traders betting on a further drop however last autumn a movement started on the message board read it to alter the trend a large number of small investors started to buy call options which led to a spike in the company's shares not resulting in the stop jumping 12 fold in just 2 weeks but after wednesday's drop many analysts are anticipating a further decline in the mean time the volatility has already cost billions to trading companies and while regulators are looking at possible rules violations the situation has also drawn attention of the highest ranking u.s.

officials. interesting if. i understand that they had measure a shift taking and left the f.e.c. is taking a look at what that is. but we'll all be breaking it but that interesting. let's cross live now to peter c. earl fellow at the american institute for economic research thanks for being with us here on r.t. international. reading this is an incredible story by all accounts came stops shares skyrocketed over the just the last few days however they dropped today when markets restricted trading why did they put on the brakes so this was the this sort of the classic short squeeze they actually happen all the time but this was an extreme one. as you mentioned it ended today and game stops stock decline mostly because i think a natural home of the point was reached that point seems to been hinted about $500.00 a share maybe for $90.00
6:19 pm
a share early this morning and it really has to do with the limp 3 limits that were the 1st just limits of capital are only so many people buying for so long and now throughout that that source of capital which will stock up gets exhausted the 2nd is profit taking since if you push the stock up and you just hold it long eventually it's going to reverse or stunt people start to sell of their profits and the masters of fear of government intervention or brokerage fall so those 3 factors may have made it such that today was sort of arresting point or maybe that will read maybe to represent the ultimate high in this short squeeze so trading apps now have blocked users from buying game stop and several other companies shares while regular regulators review the matter is there any real reason to suspect foul play or insider trading or anything like that. i don't think so you know on the brokerage firms are well within their rights to restrict trading in certain
6:20 pm
securities during certain market conditions. you know public utilities or private companies and if any of those firms you know robin hood is one that's really mentioned there are a few others if they're self clearing they may have legitimate worries about their net capital requirements which is the amount of capital they have to keep on hand as required by regulators so they make mr trading because. brokerage customers who either. generate margin calls or their skills to deliver can expose them and also even if those return british firms aren't so clear the firms are clear for them may require them to keep a certain amount of liquidity on hand so. i mean the only thing i could imagine is that it turns out that some of the brokerage firms brokerage firms dave certain customers access they shouldn't have or they gave them you know any sort of preferred auctions or something that may may be an issue but i don't see anything right now i don't think so it's interesting that this little store has become almost a fortune 500 company now the case has drawn the attention of congress and the
6:21 pm
white house what action can we expect from the government side anything the government does will be in the grandstanding or generate unintended consequences this really should be an issue between exchanges and brokerage firms and i mean i'm compelled to mention that short squeeze of going on for a long time but what used to happen was. the long side in the short side would be privately a negotiated next surprise but here we have the involvement of we have a lot of grandstanding it's amazing how what's really fundamentally just a stock actually has become this hyper politicized issue now is this showing that internet platforms are actually changing the game on wall street can we expect more such examples in the future. well i mean all my bro bridges have been around for about 25 years technologically they haven't really changed in about 2 decades but what makes this a really unique situation in my mind is really 3 factors that are currently we still have a lot of people who are at home under unemployed because of lock down to stay home
6:22 pm
orders which are now starting to be lifted but they're still in effect the 2nd is that stock valuations are strongly high even overall not just because your stocks but overall partially because of the infusion of trillions of dollars own through the federal reserve's. attempts to liquefy the economy when things start to fall out of bed in march and april 2020 and in this particular case you have one or 2 hedge funds that were they were asleep at the switch the rich green was short in an illiquid stock and they got caught and that's just how i would go if you that's if you step in and you might get punished it's interesting that maybe boredom came into play when you mention the pandemic and that everybody has a little extra time on their hands but how much of a chance to small investors have though against large trading companies when it comes to changing the market does this show that the big wall street firms won't like all follow the house rules to be changed easily or is this going to be a trend of the future. you know so this will definitely wakes people up their
6:23 pm
government in some securities firms each to decide to change either. what actions they allow i mean i don't see a lot of changes on the long side i definitely see firms that clear for hedge funds watching them on the short side changing their risk models for how long they allow hedge funds to give short uncertain terms it used to be that they would only allow them to get short words say you know a day or 2 days average trading volume but some of the best exceeded that but in general if securities firms whether it's the firms that execute trades or. are programs for hedge funds or all my brokerages changed the rules even overnight at fairplay again they're private companies they're private firms have to protect their own interest as well as those of their other customers who are all ultimately joined by the capital of the firm. but if governments change rules overnight it usually winds of b. to tilt the balance to rip a powerful interest which is
6:24 pm
a different issue i. learned a new phrase from the in the an ounce of the short squeeze peter see earl interesting thanks for helping us walk through this very interesting situation all right thanks for having me. all right now the science fiction is becoming a reality as moscow may get its 1st flying taxis within a couple of years flying cars we've all been promised these russian urban air mobility company has started testing so-called passenger drones archy's constantine roscoff was 1st in line. and just like that city traffic is no longer an issue instead of driving along congested highways this taxi should lift you up and take you from a to b. by a or. by the way there are no paddles or a steering wheel i mean the whole thing is supposed to be controlled by
6:25 pm
a person remotely or by computer programs the only thing i can do while inside is to pull the red knock in case of emergency can babble it jacked it parachute. of course using it as an air transport transport for passengers like air so to speak in the big congested city is the 1st thing that comes to mind but it also might be useful for various city services like ambulance for example and russia's health care ministry and emergency ministry are reported to be extremely interested in this invention the safety is the idea of the flying car of the holder the idea
6:26 pm
of don't fix it is by what's inside it and just sit there choose the point on the map and the flight and that's all for the flying drones market has been booming for the last few years with many developers in europe china and america creating prototypes and chinese company hanka for example made an aerial vehicle that can not only fly people but also how to put out fires and there still might be quite a few bombs. on the way of this particular area taxi before the project can take off well 1st of all it needs an investor who could start mass production and 2nd that city authorities must figure out where to allow such vehicles to operate as for now moscow considering devoting certain areas within the city limits for outdoor task bringing hopes moscow could be one of the 1st capitals to use the catch phrase of doc brown back to the future deal or an inventor of.
6:27 pm
the. i've been promised flying cars since i was a kid that started for this i'll be back next hour with more news to do with. right now all the. people who are overweight or obese it's profitable to sell through the seas frenzy and sugary insult and addict it's not at the individual level it's not individual willpower and if we go on believing that never change this obesity epidemic that industry has been influencing very deeply the medical and scientific establishment. so what's driving the obesity epidemic it's called for profit.
6:28 pm
let's imagine that everything that we learned on the world shoots not right so as we learn more and more because we are learning more and more you silent grow now as any good island the island is surrounded by the ocean in this case is the ocean off the unknown most stuff we do not know the right and a paradox of learning and this is why the boy did just that as the island grows. why jesus known and what is not known he's also growing. but there's a lot stand for today not long ago to let stood with working people and civil liberties not only peter supreme court's ice age and the cherry intelligence issues we hear the word would be a law but not a policy and is there a place for mayor you know politics.
