a question that bears to mind that we have to start looking inwardly at the fact that there are a lot of people who are homegrown terrorists who are getting radicalized right here in america in the cities across the country and we need to do something about it now to the extent that i think we might take things a little too far and surveilling individuals just because somebody says something or follows a group online doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to take arms and attack an elected official but i do think that there are certain groups who have exhibited problematic behavior that warrants more surveillance more and more it's interesting because of the interview with n.p.r. when discussing you know what lessons he learned in afghanistan. and how those are rare. when to stopping extremism here i mentioned him earlier robert green you stated the thrust of our campaign there was guest to hunt down al qaeda but primarily to remove the supportive environment in which they were able to live and to flourish and that meant fighting the taliban i think that is at the heart of what we need to deal with here. that's bothers me

while goals that end up actually hurting people in the long run but it's easier said than done in many cases the manipulation that goes through several social media channels but also outside of social media. these are things that we've been working at for a long time and still have yet to figure out i think that one of the toughest parts is that there is no real way or we haven't found a substantive way yet to determine who will read something and then take it into action because many people read crazy things every day and they don't go out and harm people and then there are some who do who gets radicalized and who doesn't based on the same information and that's a tough thing to be able to weed through it is and i think the way that you don't fight because in my mind is always like look it's better that people read something bad than take that bad thing away from them to read because then what happens is that gives it this credibility it gives this this new mystery that everyone wants to read or if you block somebody on social media if you take that away. you know then suddenly everybody mistreated i got to see what this person said it's

interesting too because a lot of would we see these procedures as they call them or you know giving law enforcement more power that doesn't mean that necessarily they're only going to go after people that we reversely don't like diyala schama some attorney with the center for constitutional rights she told the guardian quote an expansion of domestic terrorism won't mean more focus on white terrorism when you consider the biases that law enforcement has with its focus on black political distant muslim political distant descent palestinian or going to organizing it's not far from which to imagine that those are the groups that will be disproportionately represented in any so-called domestic terrorism framing yeah you know they're going to turn this around on the very people that we might be fighting they've already been writing for as they've already tried it we've seen it we've seen it with you know the push to label the black lives matter activist as a terrorist organization we've seen it historically with organizations like the back black panthers we saw to be labeled as a terrorist attack martin luther king jr who labeled as

a terrorist and yet one of the most peaceful movements in american history so i do think there's something to be said about about the government many times utilizing that terrorism tactic or label for individuals who are actually just trying to have their voices heard or you know humanitarian. needs of for civil rights and justice rarely do we see it placed on the groups that actually that label that is very true i mean look at the muslim americans after 911 and the patriot act has destroyed many of those communities. president biden entered the oval office with marching orders from progressive minority and 1st time voters they wanted radical change and a swift departure from trump era policy amid the backdrop of a nationwide racial reckoning the defund the police mantra and calls for police reform took hold u.s. immigration and customs enforcement ice became a primary target former president trying to utilize ice to advance deportations family separations and turn america's asylum laws upside down the expectation was

that back with a stroke of a pen now i think you're right there is a mindset here and i think that you know with as much credit as they get during the chump administration for some of the heinous things that we saw them do i have been ratcheting up these these you know terrible deportations for years now they also did it during the obama administration they got started during the during the latter terms of the bush administration and they've only gotten worse and they've got more expansive states are now using their legislative power to have injunctions that so that they can basically start circumvent buy and hold on deportations and when they do that guess who is ready to come in and ready to rumble ice and all of a sudden separate these families and you know the asylum asylum system all over it it's interesting because as you mentioned kind of the threat of him as the language of the intercept mention these sorts of like them using you know threatening these folks with you know exposing them to covert in the process of whether deporting them or holding them whatever you know what people might look at that say arm so

shocked how could these people be solaced people do that and actually look at them say you know what we use tear gas people practicing their 1st mineral rights which is a chemical weapon and you cannot use that on the battlefield so it does not surprise me with mine so i would say you know what yeah i'm a bright new with cold would not throw you into a tank with people who have. just because i don't like you and i think that's it that's a strong correlation because that's exactly what we're seeing happen these individuals these these ice officials know how it is running and even if the facilities they're holding them in what is already present as a matter of fact in prime prairie facility which is one that is also a it is owned and operated by a private a private jail institution a private prison they have 21 confirmed cases. now so when you're threatening these individuals who already are in many cases receiving treatment they already have and you're threatening people who you're trying to fast track in the process to throw them into an area where these people are already being isolated because they have covert 19 that's really scary because it not only pushes them to i guess obey your

command immediately because they're built for their lives but also you know it's it's a biochemical warfare to a certain extent because you know what could happen you know the potential and you're fully aware of the threat that you're posing to these individuals and when and when we've now given. these border security people when they look at people crossing the border they look at these people that they're training for lack of a better word is what they're doing they don't see. a lot of them of the train themselves not to see a human being they see an enemy. an enemy combatant for lack of better word. it almost makes the question upstream people raise this now do we need to just abolish ice across the border we need to get rid of this is an organization and start over and i think the more we see stories like this the answer is going to be a resoundingly yes because we've handled these issues before without we have to remember that i have not is still fairly young organization i do think that we need comprehensive immigration reform our asylum laws don't necessarily be need to be

changed we need to follow the laws that are on the books and that's not what we're seeing happen right now and to the point that we see so many people in the media when you're talking about undocumented immigrants when you're talking about asylum we rarely see black people the interesting part about this case to me is that they were cameroonians and haitians think that during the during the trial that ministration a lot of the ratchet up that was over a latino immigrants who for the most part latino immigrants and asylum seekers also did not deserve what we saw happen but i do think that there's something to be said that now we're seeing this happen in mass to people from black countries. i could agree with you more and you know while we're talking about the abolishment of ice can we also get in this plays into the original. can we also get rid of the use of the term homeland i think that just bothers me too we're supposed to be you know america we supposed to accept people of all walks of life of all cultures say come here try to make it try to succeed and yet we use this term homeland like like like we didn't take it from the native americans in the 1st place like we're not all we

people vote for you you couldn't you can you can be elected and i think those rules are very strong and they're good and should stay but there is a certain like you say there's a danger of what happens when you elect somebody who is mentally unfit or mentally unstable to hold office how can the united states kind of rid itself of the cult of trump or you know is it baked into the kind of collective psyche of the country now that we're going to with the we always kind of go towards these narcissistic strongman types in our leaders. well certainly mental pathology in politics can be very dangerous and so when a country is mired in partisan stright then it is important to have input from experts and so even though we don't have a method of screening. for mental fitness unlike any i. their job or position that deals with life and death matters in the country because every military officer law

of law enforcement officers and those who handle nuclear weapons have to go through its density psychological screening before they ever take their job but we don't have that for elected officials so the least that we could have is for experts to be able to speak when there are signs of danger and we have a professional responsibility to society not just to private patients and this is what the american psychiatric association blocked. in a sense to protect its federal funding and so to remove this kind of corruption and interference to allow. access to expertise for the public just as they have access to tax would go a long way in allowing sell through currently we've taken away a lot of power from the people essentially by not only blocking
