global gathering world leaders to promote to discuss the most pressing international issues of both the g 7 meeting at the munich security conference predicts the question people most gushing welcome given to president biden the. moscow bulls the brussels is politicizing the fight against the pandemic as a. controversial comments from the e.u. as head costing all russia's covert boxing. spain it sees a 4th laws of the protests over the arrest of a cast about for accused of glorifying terrorism. i'm screaming the 1st that question on the freedom topic refound i am going to leave my cell. has begun all that really old accounts the former president's attempts to
11:01 pm
remain relevant cross to discuss the future of the republican policy up next in this here it was time to bring you the latest global news headlines all of the morning join us again that. hello and welcome to crossfire where all things are considered on people about the post trauma era has begun or has it what role will the former president play within the republican party by all accounts trump intends to remain relevant if this is the case what is the future of the populist wing of the party and in ortley if indeed the g.o.p. is now the party of the working class will the party leadership embrace this new
11:02 pm
direction. to discuss the fate of the g.o.p. i'm joined by my guests and martin in washington he's president of the national conservative organization that was schaffel eagles as well as co-author of the conservative case for trump also in washington we have she's founder of republican women for biden and a former republican strategist and in denver we crossed to ted harvey he is chairman of the committee to defeat the president stopped joe dot com or across the rules in effect that means you can jump in anytime you want and i always appreciate it because i was going to ted here 1st you know it depending on what you're reading on the internet or what cable station you're watching you know all is fine in the republican party or there is a massive division there's a civil war going on in the party and it's all revolving around one individual and
11:03 pm
we know who that is what is the state of the party right now. well i think it's a long term phrase that's been around forever i'm not a member of any organized political party i've been republican and i think that there's been division in the party forever and there always will be division in the party i think that there's a spectrum in the political world and there's the far far left socialists there's the establishment and both the republican and the democrat party who simply want to have power and then there are the conservative patriotic americans to just want to live their lives and not have to deal with politics and just go about with having their families and being having a constitutional republic and that's about it and there's a there's a lot of tension amongst those 3 wings of the political spectrum will we may lose the constitutional republic and that's really worries me here let me ask you because the let's really significant about the whole trump event in the republican party is that he ran as
11:04 pm
a populist and in my opinion for my taste he didn't really run much as a as a populist he was much more like a jeb bush like president that's a criticism that i have but there's no doubt that the the populous part of the party has made itself known and we've seen this all across public opinion polls there is a schism with the leadership and a good part of the base your assessment. well peer coming from the background of having done a lot of candidate recruitment for republican women particularly and in general looking to bring more new people into the republican party people who are new americans so kids of immigrants like myself as well as people under 40 women and people from different racial and ethnic backgrounds are really showing to that the values of the party fiscal conservatism largely are is for them and are the values of the future as well so so this is a tough question for me because it would be said that that tension has always been healthy in my opinion but in the past 45 years when i've seen something kind of odd
11:05 pm
happened in say it was there seemed to be an acceleration of that cult of personality and the embrace of that and there was always kind of there you know a great figure pops up on the scene and everybody's excited and wants to get behind this person everything they're saying is sort of on point and maybe this is a person that can expand the tent or you know bring those people i just spoke about into the party to be with our values i think now where we live with is this new kind of populism and to me this isn't exactly a bad thing because what i want is candidates coming in and figuring out that policy is for that america is for them and democracy needs and so they have to enter into the public sphere however they are and that's one thing that trying to show everyone is a you don't have to be this one particular thing of course we're going to see this whole crop of candidates rise and say i'm a business person i don't need outside money just come with me but then i think
11:06 pm
also there is a candidate somewhere in the middle those who just want to shake their fist as guy and as well the nebulous elite that has always been sort of perceived to control the republican party i'm going to agree with you on the nebulous elite and. you know because yeah i mean this is really the key here because a pop the populist wing has made it snow. no and and i think it's very clear and they and they want to say ok and but when is absolutely right there are people that just like trump but there are a lot of people that liked a lot of his ideas even if they didn't really play out very well during his administration go ahead yeah well look i mean as a record i liken this to the goldwater and people my smile and shake their head go at it and when i mean but go water had 26000000 voters there are a lot of people who went around with a button afterwards said the 26000000 club i'm a member of the 74000000 club 74000000 americans voted for this guy donald trump and they didn't vote as you point out for all of his policies in office they voted
11:07 pm
for a personality who was fighting on their side who believed that we could be america 1st we don't have to cater and world wars all over the world we don't have to be enemies to russia we don't have we do have to be enemies to china who's eating our lunch and killing our kids we can stand up and fight he i tell people he was like the captain of team america if you were an american on the team you loved it you lost a job some things you felt like he was fighting if you weren't on team america you looked a little askance and you know him from merkel merkel to to you know to kim to kim jong il you look a little funny here's the problem for the people that are talking about the establishment versus the report the base or public and it's trump republican party the people that are left like liz cheney and others that want to talk about the past they're the minority there's 20 percent 26 percent i say 74 percent is trump 26 on the other if they don't like it they have money and office but they can leave because they're never going to win a primary for president i'm sorry the idea that we're going to have my you know
11:08 pm
going to win a moderates i'm going to win moderate these are conservative by the way right wing or it's going to be a populist blend for talk of for president and and frankly good riddance to the people that want to go back to a career protists dominated republican party week that failed us and we need to move past that and we need to move past it emphatically ok when you're. you know the purpose and your description is perfect but ted well that happened i mean there we still have the connell's out there and liz cheney which i just i can't believe that she has still a major voice in the republican party after all of this again you know these are the things that really disappoint me about the republicans ok and of easily those that promote these endless wars ok maybe it's like lindsey graham when he was on hannity a couple days ago hit the ball out of the park but then when it comes to foreign wars that's why i say i can't be a member of the republican party it's still the tension there and it can that
11:09 pm
tension be resolved because how do you have 7475000000 people in mcconnell in the same party go ahead well that you opened up a huge pandora's box of questions there i think liz cheney is not a significant player in the republican party if you go to number 3. i live in i live in colorado just south of wyoming every county in the state of wyoming every republican party in every county in the state of wyoming passed a resolution condemning her i am pretty confident that she will not be returning after the 2022 election so she is not a significant player in the republican party but you keep going back to the president ran on all these populist things but he didn't do it and i just have to argue with that get you look at what he did on the southern border he stopped illegal immigration brought it to a trickle and that's with having a democrat house and a democrat senate for most of his administration and you look at what he did on foreign policy is the only president in my lifetime never to engage our forces in
11:10 pm
a new foreign war that's where we elected him today we're in we elected him to cut taxes and he cut taxes more than any president my lifetime if you look the picture over here ronald reagan over here ice got my political start in the reagan white house and i still would argue donald trump is the best president of my lifetime because of what he did on the judges and fighting for pro-life issues. in putting pro-life judges in place that's the reason why i backed the president and i know all this all i present there celebrate his president all fair points but let me go to rename it now what i'm getting at is that in the last 6 months 7 months of his president i was very disappointed that he didn't take charge on a stimulus package for working people for the middle class and he didn't do that there was such an amazing open forum there that lane nobody embraced it everybody stayed away from him he should have done that and i think we would be saying president trump right now if he had ok i think he put is he going to need
11:11 pm
a missile connel i think you put a spade the military is going to have its will climb cannot lead to hang on please please consider me no i want equal time for everyone going yet you and i i'm hearing all this and i'm shaking my head yes because there's so much we can agree on versus what we can disagree on and it's a fact that for one year we've been living in this in this new reality which i mean i can say if you double i really it's instead it's going to wreak havoc on the lives and i think just basic simple average american families who have to find a new way to move forward after this great distress nobody in washington was there to bail anybody out there to bail out big old bailed out the rich people happy doing out there corporate buddies ok i would not go hill when that when that those bailouts happen and as a real fiscal conservative i mean i don't think anybody's too big to fail and this is the problem is that we've had leaders in washington like mcconnell and even mccarthy that talk out of both sides of their mouth because they want to have it
11:12 pm
both ways i'm personally supportive lynne cheney but i'm hearing my my colleagues here and i and i get it i've traveled this country i've had the great pleasure of trial in this country as an operative and hearing from average republican voters who are not bad people i myself was the image opposed to the president did not find him to be a real republican when he entered that stage but here's the thing i never once vilified a truck because you. just don't get anywhere doing that there's no point in doing it we have so much that we can solve as a society if our leaders in washington had actually passed these packages or us actually passed relief for the average american they we wouldn't have had the. women from the workforce in which we had in december 100 percent of exits from the job reports were american women that really concerns me as a young moderates and the other 40 because those are might here. and this is this is the problem we need republicans to stand up and seize the moment we need to push back on this whole let's make the government bigger let's make the government
11:13 pm
smaller problems because we're going to see that from democrats over and over you me haven't resolved the problem here ed let me go to you because we republican party is a big tent but within the tent there is a lot of tension here and we keep going back to visit issue because you know you know i think a lot of of the republican base the trump base would have liked to see more stimulus happen to main street all the middle small and medium sized businesses which you know by the time these clowns now get around to admit it's over for so many people here and so that's still the tension there you know fiscal conservatism is fine ideologically but then politics is about action and doing stuff for people ok and do we have that right mix right now because it looks to me the democrats are going to bail out democrats with their problems going all the way back to the 1960 s. . well look i think we're time of the republican party right now i do think that this
11:14 pm
is a sort of growing pains right for for the 1st time in my lifetime we have a party that is really antiwar emphatically right anti at least and and then for the 1st time we have a party that's talking about working class issues if not enacting them i take your point but but to our ted's point we didn't have a party i was on the our and see if after the 2012 election the autopsy said. be nice to hispanic speak in spanish be nice to gay people and you'll win and i thought no the issue across the heartland is immigration an issue across the heartland still is immigration by the way an issue across the heartland is still the root of the 776 commission there's a lot of people that feel that culturally america is sliding not blaming one group that 1 may want to hold that point we're going to go to a short break and after that show continue our discussion on the future of the g.o.p. state party. the
11:15 pm
global markets approximately just under 2 trillion so certainly within a few months big vaulting over silver it's on its way and my believe in 2021 to get half way are so against the market capitalization of gold that it would be 4 trillion on its way to 10 trillion and then you know once it gets past all there's only $10.00 left. it's been decades since the fall of spain's fascist regime but old wounds still haven't filled. up until it was. only from you know. sort of the base of the 6 mean older than just the same question which we know. of newborn babies were torn from their mothers and given away and forced adoption i don't know the. fiesta. to this day mothers still
11:16 pm
search for grown children. for their parents. well that's across town where all things are considered i'm peter lavelle reminder we're discussing the face. of the g.o.p. . ok let's go back to what i want you to be able to finish your point that you know well they very briefly to really rina said earlier i mean people are going to rise up to lead meaning the national figures other than donald trump and i just return to my old mentor the late phyllis schlafly she talked about give us a choice not an echo we got a lot of echoes of the past we're seeing some of them come back around where they'll try again that the choice trump gave was
11:17 pm
a dramatic shift and i think the republican party to succeed is going to need to continue in that vein i gree on some of the policy fights but i but and by the way one less thing we've always been a party for example the pro-life plank has been solidly in place but there's always been pro-choice republicans in other words as long as you want to buy into this tent you know you where we're comfortable with that we don't judge them on the other hand if you're saying you have to expel the trump movement then we're same way we're the actual larger part of the republican party but it's going to be a to mulch us couple years as any party that leaves the white house finds is my my sense and you know conservatives are very unity ok fair about this nonsense of diversity unity will bring us together all of us together here ted i want to go back to a sore point that i've mentioned i want to continue with you is the g.o.p. now or if it wants to be the party of working people because i think we're headed to rubicon to have to decide one way or another going to 2022 go ahead. well
11:18 pm
i think the conservative side of the republican party has always been for the working man they have always been for free markets they've always been for the consumer they've always been for the taxpayer it's more of the establishment side of the republican party the money side of the republican party that is controlled the party for the last 40 years i think what you have seen with the tea party movement 'd and what you've seen with trumps election in 2016 is you've seen the conservative side the small business patriotic god very. pro free market side of the party rising up and taking over the party and that's why you've seen. conservatives win primaries all across the country in races for the u.s. senate whether it was ted cruz or mike lee or rand paul they were they want primaries in republican primaries as
11:19 pm
a conservative free market thinker and i think that that is what is happening in the republican party is we're throwing out those corporatist as ed said and the corporatists using their gnashing of teeth right now on the floor of the senate mitch mcconnell but the corporatism best by definition of the money ok you've always started our reporting we were talking about the the cost of entry to get into a primary ok you have to have a whole lot of money and we know it and i'm not i'm not absolutely convinced that the average trump supporter is thinking about free markets and and low taxes i'm sorry i think people are thinking about other things that the government may be able to do for them like a higher quality of education and things like this here i am i am not ideological i am but actually a populism i want people to succeed and people who are the answer it's not money money has been the problem for the last 5060 years you throw money at something that doesn't help it actually makes. worse. gotten out of me why i stayed in
11:20 pm
today's republican party and number one it's because i made my career here and not because somebody told me to or not because my parents were republicans not at all and i've talked often on this show about holy parents follow the letter of the law were legal immigrants here are highly skilled workers and we take great pride in that and so we are offended by illegal immigration and people wanting to skip the line they also do you think there are there are a humane ways compassionate ways 'd to take care of people who need a place to go there are refugees or people seeking asylum and we we have a responsibility to do right by them because of what's instructed our constitution have been great but mean it to be fair to be fair if you look at immigration policies all around the world right governments decide legislatures voters decide what country we want highly skilled people that can add to the economy most countries in the world do that and in this day and age of super super
11:21 pm
competitive environments for the economy i mean i have no problem with being picky here ok i mean considering in considering the god awful situation with their educating well 1st of all they're not educating all of the young kids now at all they're all locked down losing so much time you know it in her brakes my heart you start falling behind you may never be able to catch up ok let's go to peter and i don't want to make this all about immigration because i know we have so many other issues we can talk about but you know sort of coming from a tech background and engineering background was a you know just erecting a physical border i didn't think with the best option we have so many great cyber options nowadays to do you to do right with with this immigration system and how to keep people who are bad actors in that we don't want them coming over and i know that's going down the rabbit hole for a 2nd but they were the facts here and the bass majority of illegal immigrants end
11:22 pm
up staying in the united states by. overstaying their visas so we need comprehensive immigration reform done it really in a proper being and i don't think we've had members of congress person conversation on ok peter peter can i answer one of the early questions a tad real quickly let me tell you about let me tell you what a serious republican party that's about the working people would do one is radically transform our immigration system as you point out our immigration system is dictated by the cartels and zuckerberg and his pals not by what we need for our people like i had checked and the idea that indian citizens need to come here i'd like to see the proof of it and get paid less than americans and be on the visas that keep them as indentured servants like there are. rights they plan change jobs and exactly is like so so so lets be put in their car and empower their workers by saying we want to immigration system that's radically for our people number 2 you
11:23 pm
mentioned that we have to stand up and i in missouri where i'm from we got beaten on our school choice effort by the republicans in the rural counties who said the superintendents a most powerful guy in my town i'm not going to cross and radical for families forget the rich people and forget the middle class poor people are screwed by our american education system untether the system from the public schools give those kids money half of them screw up because the schools are shut or but heaven will get out of hell that's number 2 and republicans should be fearlessly for that here's another one we should stand up to the communist regime and when we do we should fund with our tax dollars instead of tax cuts for wall street and all this crap fund workers give them money i don't care what doesn't sound republican but it sounds like 21st century america and implement little but give them money so they can function for a while and see what we get because here's the thing. everybody in america under
11:24 pm
about 60 grand knows the system is rigged against them and every day they wake up and say my kids are so screwed and i'm going to sit here and say well and there's trump say and mitch you got a bad what he say got a bad you know grumpy or whatever and they look one guy seems to be on my side and as you guys know half the time he didn't deliver but the most of the time they know as i said that's what a populous republican party would look like everything else is was one place the graveyard lessingham say is big tech and big media are now using big government to stomp on we the people and the republicans like mitch are like yeah we'll do really well and when the senate come on we're in trouble with the size and power of what's happening to us while i think that's the opening salvo if you're not seeing 20 more presidential candidates and there's a good ok if they have the copyright to it so you go me up to the program sounds good ok ted i want to ask you is it the remaining time we have here what is trump's
11:25 pm
role in the party and i'm thinking about 20222024 i want to ask you all the same thing what's his role in the party what are the pluses what are the minuses ted 1st well what i hope he does is that he puts together a a media company that will compete with facebook compete with twitter and compete with the cable news networks and i think if he started up a twitter company it would make twitter go out of business 80000000 people in this country in the world went over to follow his twitter account on his twitter company twitter would cease to exist and i think the same thing would happen with facebook and i think he would be much more powerful on the outside than he would be at running for president of the united states but having said that he has the a huge stick that he can go after a lot of these establishment republicans and take them out of office in the next 2
11:26 pm
to 4 years. that will transform the party from being part of this corporatist political entity to being an entity that actually is sticking up for the workers and the consumers in america rather than sticking up for big business ok now we're going to get a dissenting opinion here marina. may you know that that's what we're all about freedom of speech and respect other people's opinions ok i don't always do it on my program and you're always welcome here but in your mind if i could you know surmise is it you think would be better for the republican party of donald trump were to sup aside go ahead what i mean he's already done i think the events of january 6th to me were very clear that we can't have somebody who's so unpredictable 'd and who's done these kind of actions to me that was clear incitement of violence and i just think he sees how he spoke and that appealed to a lot of people in the beginning because it was the plane that we so badly have created for so long especially in that the era of obama you know we were getting
11:27 pm
these oratorical sort of magnificus the speeches that were just out and didn't do anything in my opinion for for anybody that really was even had 10 minutes to spare so what charlie did in the beginning i think it just it went to direction that i don't even think he predicted it and so i'm glad he's no longer part of really the national conversation right now i mean yes he is he really going. i got i didn't really. know how do you know right now on the immediate treats joe biden everyone is just thirsting to know what donald trump things because our. quarterly totally embarrass themselves with their media since january i mean here in syria agree but this is a perfect time to start having a conversation about what we the people want now now i'm excited because we can get back to you know one thing i have to ask you i got 30 seconds and i wanted to
11:28 pm
finish the. trump in the future 30 seconds go there's never been in our history a more dominant political personality he will be the dominant player for that as long as he's alive and the downside of that is depending on what he's doing he'll be the dominant player on one on the political scene and some of and some good people will be out in the shadows so i don't think there's any doubt the media loves him they make money off of them oh he has come and he's coming back and he'll be the dominant character whatever he wants to do directionally will be the dominant political movement in the country and i don't think there's any doubting that and we'll see what that means yeah he's living in their brains rent free god all right i want to thank my guests in washington denver and in washington i want to thank our viewers for watching us here argue see you next time remember.
11:29 pm
