tragically most of the time it's used as click bait a way to lure independent thinkers and activists to a site or article by appealing to their very real fear of losing our very precious 1st amendment rights of free speech and assembly to an overbearing government it's also been used quite quite often as a tool of the ego test you know how many times have we seen the pampered and privileged claim that their free speech is under attack whenever they've been forced to face the real world consequences for their actions and words yeah everybody loves to claim censorship when suddenly faced with you know having to take responsibility for the idiotic and cruel things they say often times in situations or conversations that any logical caring and tactful person would realize it's best to keep the 1st shot or choose your words wisely if you're going to say something stupid tragically these instances watered down actual moments when free speech is truly being threatened like this week when reason magazine reports
2:31 am
the us congress members from the house on a s. show and jerry mcnerney sent letters to the presidents of comcast 80 and t. verizon cox dish and other cable and satellite companies implying that they should either stop carrying fox news want to american news network and newsmax or pressure them to change their coverage in the letters the representatives at show and make mcnerney right to our knowledge the cable satellite and over the top companies that disseminate these media outlets to american viewers have done nothing in response to the misinformation aired by these outlets this political political pressure from capitol hill comes on the eve of february 24th house and energy commerce committee's hearings on traditional media's role in promoting this information and extremism. apparently congress feels it's time to go after cable and satellite
2:32 am
providers for misinformation the same way they went after facebook twitter and other social media companies which means my friends you know what i know what the world knows that it's time to start watching the hawks. on a city the streets you want to. see see this is joyce state see. graves see this sleaze systemic deception is to late show which. brings up the old. welcome everyone to watch i robot and i'm obese across so mieses appears the congress released house representatives on this committee are sending letters to the cable providers saying hey what are you doing this stop you know this disarmament because from a nation of misinformation and you know fake news or facts we don't agree with you
2:33 am
know opinions we don't agree with things i have my own issues with the cable company if they lead comcast and they're horrible customer service but the issue here i think is that we're taxing or congress is taxing the cable companies with a role that they don't actually have they don't determine the concent that individual networks decide to produce decide to actually air or the talent or the people who come on their shows and they never really have this isn't their role this is a very tight think on the congressional side on the one point i do understand that there is a feeling across this country right now that the incitement of violence on january 6th was greatly propagated by some of the some of the conspiracy theories we heard on networks but also you know across social media channels and they're trying to reel that in but i don't think that this is the way to do it any it also presents a theory reality that if pushed far enough we could end up looking like the things that we've always had a problem with in america in comparison to places like china where there is so much control over what people see what the. well we and that's
2:34 am
a theory flipper reflow that's kind of how i look at it too like yes. store a t. and t. or dish network or whatever of these companies if they decide to not carry a channel that they have every right to do that they're a business they can do that they say you know what i don't like fox news i don't like amazon b c anymore you know that with these channels i don't care even what they can do that that's their right however congress putting pressure on is one of those things that i do disagree the same way i did disagree with when congress was putting pressure on social media companies well known and i guess i do say it's up to facebook and twitter to decide who they want on their platform and i disagree with a lot of the times when they censor people on the left and the right because i believe in the free sharing of ideas and thoughts i don't think we should be you know disallowing people from sharing them but at the same time i do understand it's their right to melt congress stepping in and doing this is absolutely ridiculous because it shows me that congress once again doesn't understand how these things work like you said these days and the cable provider does not talk with h.b.o. and says hey h.b.o.
2:35 am
what you put in on that and when you know how it goes also the big difference between cable and local channels is they do have a little bit more leverage in terms of their content in terms of you know the language that hughes and things like that but these are these conversations are done with cable news executives they're not done with the cable companies themselves they have absolutely no leverage over that and even when it comes to the cable news executives it's up to honestly market pressure to decide whether or not they take things off as long as people are watching it they're going to keep producing it exactly and look fox news issued a statement they declared for individual members of congress congress to highlight political speech they do not like and demand cable distributors engage in a viewpoint discrimination viewpoint discrimination sets a terrible precedent actually it's sad that this thing is making me agree with things that fox news says but i do i do agree with that because where does it stop like if you don't like the news that you know even if it's garbage news if you don't like the news that one station is putting out do then turn around and say you know what cinemax i don't like that fictional program you put. because it says
2:36 am
something bad about the republicans or says something bad about democrats or says something bad about a political figure that i like you know when you get into that world of censorship the only way to really make this work is to call out the consumers who actually watch this and for them to change their minds but also to call out the ads these these these shows don't get any air space if they don't have the advice to keep them on and let's be realistic if you really want americans to stop falling for this information or fake or all the rest you know actually invest in the education system of this country actually invest in getting people true ability to raise themself up out of the muck or raise them so far up economically because that's actually how you get a better import in form populace that's not so easy to fall for these don't go after the messenger go after and try to educate and help the people who are receiving this information to be able to tell the difference between the good the bad and were very far from the age of enlightenment or. the us president joe biden hasn't had the easiest go of it his electoral win was overshadowed by conspiracy
2:37 am
theories of voter fraud his inauguration took place just a few days after the january 6th insurrection at the nation's capital and biden has an error it amiss a pandemic that has claimed the lives of more than $500000.00 americans not to mention a vaccine rollout disaster he is charged with fixing any commie in shambles and race relations much akin to those things at the height of the civil rights movement in his 1st town hall since assuming the presidency biden went on c.n.n. last week to address many of the issues facing americans and how his administration would tackle them there were moments of levity reassurance passionate answers and of course the charm and the biden is known for when dealing with traumatic situations but one moment stood out. biden was asked how can we be sure that we don't over legislate police officers so that they can do their job to protect law abiding citizens who live in these high crime neighborhoods and yet train officers to police with compassion. now there are several problems inherent with
2:38 am
the question itself it's a dog whistle but the bigger issue is biden's response biden went on to say quote if you ever want to know where the american public is look at the money being spent on advertising did you ever 5 years ago think that every 2nd or 3rd ad out of 5 or 6 would turn out biracial couples. kind of cringe for biting racial progress the thing interracial couples on t.v. it cheerios laundry detergent car commercials you name it. forget the fact that our blood lies in the streets of this country that housing discrimination runs rampant that having a black sounding name often gets your resume throw in the trash that blacks are dying at rates up to 5 times more than whites from code 19 and even though there is a vaccine we don't have access to it forget the very system of democracy that put by the office was threatened because black people dared exercise their right to vote and did so in a mess but for biden t.v.
2:39 am
ads featuring a black woman in a white man are proof positive that we're moving in the right direction america's issues with race what we saw back t.v. that said based on white comfort we need policy to meet activism if white supremacy is to ever be dismantled. or boy then this is a fascinating fascinating subject matter because it is biden just seems to always walk into these remember the typewriter was the record player but it was on the campaign trail that you didn't write into these things are you black people in latino is not knowing how to use computers like charlemagne was a challenge or you said like well if you don't vote for me you're not black in the new things that he's never actually even know about i have to trick him into the candidate opens his mouth and these things fall out that are really uncomfortable in cringing and the thing about that question specifically was that biden actually has a strong record since you know his inception the white house on race relations he
2:40 am
has policy programs to work that he has put susan rice in charge of leading it he appointed lloyd austin at the defense department and he's created a position singularly there that is designed to weed out racism and white supremacy in the ranks of the armed forces if 1st series of executive orders they focus on housing and equality they focus on black small businesses and getting them back on track maybe look toward building you know a base of pharmacies and other interests that are able to get the vaccines in the arms of african-americans who weren't getting them through the regular routes all of that he could have mentioned during that he could actually touched on why that question was problematic to begin with. all right handsome in here in your shoes oh yeah instead he chose to take this leap of stupidity in the land all commercials it's a very white answer because you know for a lot of white people who don't really understand the issues of race in this country it is that it is really that shallow it's well i mean now that i'm seeing more black people represented on t.v. or in t.v. commercials or whatever it may be well that must mean the racism is over in this
2:41 am
country look see it's on t.v. you know and that and that to me is how easily we fall in this kind of capitalistic system of like we're just going to dump ads at you all day and then that's going to tell you what your culture is exactly and i think that part of the response from the media world in general was to push out more black content to kind of know the way the fact of what's going on in the streets it's ironic to me that we could have had this summer of uprising where people across the globe were actually marching in the streets black lives matter because of what was happening here in the united states and yet we have a present the united states whom i personally supported who gets on live television and talk about the fact that because we see in a racial couples on t.v. that that means you know that's racial progress it doesn't in a racially couples in real life does that mean that there is racial progress at all that's a great point you know here's what i want to ask you those what's interesting to me about this is that you know biden got some good pushback you know he got pushed back for this comment but imagine i also think about it's like imagine of donald trump would have said this to what is the difference why is it kind of you do see
2:42 am
no we know all of donald trump's real problems with race in this country but why is it just because of the policies that you mentioned earlier that you don't see biden being crucified as much for a statement like this which is a pretty derogatory and short sighted statement and i think it's the policies also think it's because the majority of black america doesn't see biden as racist they see him as this colloquial old white man who says can do things but i don't see him as someone who's perpetrating racism they think this is just one of those other patterns of biden that comes out and is ignorant and this is a teachable moment but i don't know how many of these statements biden can have. and it still will be haha let's move on after a while it is does this man actually think that these are signs of racial progress or what are his markers because he's got a lot of black people around him right now they'll say something like that is really disappointing it truly is and you know i have to say it is when is that is are we going to see that shift between the. 70 year old guy that we put up with it was like our 70 year old grandfather or so some stupid stuff in the family or
2:43 am
something where we got to stop it actually it was let's do we've got to do something about this because we don't get it only time will tell and things like every few weeks something else comes out of the south that makes the everybody go ok we need to rethink that so we get when we elect 70 year olds all right when we go to break remember that you can also start watching the hawks on the mat on your brand new portable t.v. it's the premier portable t.v. up which is available on all platforms coming up my friends we delve into the rise of all alcoholism the covert with infectious disease expert and girdles dr barbara stay tuned to watch in the. l. word for word from talking to you all that technology should work for people. i really must obey the orders given to human beings except where such a conflict with the 1st law. just that we should be very careful about our national

2:47 am
reopening schools the c.d.c. guidelines had a glaring blind spot ventilation as a precaution in a letter sent monday a group of over a dozen experts called on the by the administration to take action in making workplaces safer from covert 90 we know that the corona virus can be passed through droplets that linger in the air and that limiting airborne transmission could be key to stopping the spirit especially in high risk areas like meat packing plants and prisons the letter calling for the c.d.c. to set new air quality standards in the fight against covert 19 was fit for leaders and biden's covert team including infectious disease expert dr anthony fauci though biden has already said that some recommendations a directive for the occupational safety and health administration osha regarding ventilation and mass they only mandate standards set by the c.d.c. and called 900 seems to have people running to their local liquor store into the high cost of the pandemic on the social lives employment and mental health of

americans has them turning to old friends like jim beam jack daniels their favorite rock vodka and anything else they can get their hands on but all this drinking has negative accumulating effects in fact according to the kaiser family foundation liver disease has gone up 50 percent since the start of the pandemic doctors say people are literally drinking themselves to death and as long as a pandemic is raging the drinking games showed no signs of stopping joining us now is infectious disease expert dr bob arnot welcome dr. i mean the greatest subreport of all dr it's always great to have you and i know we've had you on several times before and you've spoken out about inhalation air quality on this show numerous times it seems like experts are just now catching up with you on this one why is mental ation standards so important and why do you see the c.d.c. stepping up do you think the c.d.c. stepping up including workplace guidelines specific to been elation because when i think about it this could possibly up in the workforce considering
2:49 am
a lot of buildings just aren't equipped currently to meet this goal. you actually write the kenya now as we know this is an airborne virus so the virus gets out in the air and can travel over distances there were times so for instance you might have been here 3 years 3 hours ago what effect would i could have walked out never known you were here and become infected every day we're losing 3000 people who walked in the equivalent of a burning building you want in airborne virus nobody wants what's been disappointing about the c.d.c.'s approach especially to schools as an example is they have this long 100 list of things like washing your hands but i don't think you have any impact on total or cleaning services the bottom line if you have any one virus you have to wash out that virus that means fresh indoor air and that means monitoring that space with c o 2 so the upper limit of normal is 80600 below you probably have little if any
2:50 am
virus so we found fantastic places like the traffic on the lot right here in a still vermont green mountain in with incredible indoor air balloons you know they should have gas allowed in there they should allow more guest in their city you know it's safer for me to go there but it is to eat in my own home but i think that it's terrible to add the school guidelines without saying you must have that in poor air at say $600.00 parts per 1000000 of c o 2 or below because that's the barrier you know in my t. said distancing in masking it simply is not enough and with a very poor degree of masking poor mask worn poorly you know you have a massive failure again runs only over 3000 deaths a day so when reporting on this but i'm very disappointed we are working on the since this summer and have not been able to get them to pay attention and i hope these experts were really in fact in the city used
2:51 am
a step to the right you know they're it's not they're barely you know they're very good. it's easter valence but these kind of recommendations aren't something they traditionally do very well but that's what i want to ask your next is that it's been look it's been widely acknowledged for some time now that air droplet some transmission a covert you know are coming through inhaled aerosols that linger in the air and what i have the question is why didn't the c.d.c. act on creating ventilation standards you know a year ago and look i understand we didn't know a lot about the disease when it 1st came out but we knew it was airborne why haven't why hasn't this happened sooner and this doesn't only protect doing making these standards doesn't only protect against code but couldn't it also protect against other airborne environmental health hazards prevalent in places like factories and things like that. what you're i'm working with the department health care the state of vermont they've been very adamant about this to very good they set standards at the end of the summer and we're now i've had c o 2 meters that use it every hallway bathroom classroom throughout all the local
2:52 am
schools here many local businesses we found a number of classrooms that were way way out of limits we brought that within limits so yes you know business is getting you know up and going safely drove what i think happened is that you know last year you had tremendous political influence and those were like you know it doesn't matter how many people died it was just throw everybody back in the schools everybody and back at work you know because we want to get the economy going again it was a terrible move 'd because the way to get the economy coming is to have fresh indoor air so people are confident they can go back to the most restaurants that in fact are going you know we could have had the economy up and going a year ago with much better ventilation standards in quite quickly bring fresh indoor air inside out to our air inside to make everything safer so you get right to the huge part of this is political and the other is the c.d.c. at least a long laundry list of standards you know the shotgun list as opposed to taking you know a very targeted approach which would be fresh into our air great mask in which they
2:53 am
still don't have any of this recommendation of a double. masking the other day you know put one terrible mask on a mediocre mask as opposed to having something that's been in 95 jo-ellen from harvard call the doctors in the brigham and women's hospital and harvard they've all said look we all need to have the equipment or the and $95.00 s. there are good breathable ones but they call a substantial quote switzerland korea that not it states but why is the standard 95 percent for the vaccine to prepare sent for some of the math makes no sense especially given that it's right that we have a great observation and dr people are drinking their sorrows away historically across america this it happened basically every time there was an economic downturn we saw during the great depression during times of poor crop yields performers the 2008 housing crisis and now coping 1000 in its record unemployment unemployment coupled with social isolation things to be driving factors for heavy alcohol
2:54 am
consumption what are some of the long term effects. of what you know when you look at it too you'll see that which has been an effort to now have anxiety depression up to 30 or 40 percent of the population and they're self medicating with alcohol they're not going to alcoholics anonymous you know you have a death creating some of these practices from people just destroying their livers i think the most important thing to say is that with code you have people with heart attacks not going in early so you know usual heart attack you can don't open the vessel up with a balloon right away they're waiting too long to be able to do the strokes it's the same thing mutability to go in early and clean it out which only drinking here i mean i just i think it's just terrible you know alcoholics anonymous and i use that a good job of trying to get these to you know these post up meetings online but it's hard you know the in person has made a huge difference in terms of trying to get people off of alcohol but the bottom line i would say is this and there are tremendous departments of psychiatry like if
2:55 am
i was arguing that there's just a general hospital there doing tell psychiatry across the country. the solution dan zeidan depression is not alcohol so if you're drinking frets you're anxious you're afraid of being thrown out of your apartment and your job looks like it's gone away you know it breaks you know it stays 1st and foremost what it. it's ok not to be ok and then you have to address the problems not without but with you know good psychotherapy with 12 step meeting interesting very effective it with good psychotherapeutic supposed so sign to recognize that this is ben you know you some of the very 1st people reporting this isn't an unrecognized tragedy it's part of this world and demi that is it so many was this a river when it's a new and different way that being pretty tremendous attention to which so important for anybody in their family or maybe selves that they need to get help
2:56 am
most definitely and that's the best most important thing about you know trying to trying to beat that beast is asking for help in months that we have to drive home for people that it's ok to ask for that help thank you so much dr bob for coming on american i want you to do great work and prejudice so much that i have a great day. well well well we's always informative having dr bob arnot every time i mean he's he's very real and i like that he keeps pushing that you know that old king in 95 matthew not a bad match to be available to everyone bottom line bottom line came 3 towns and if i believe all i'm asking to make a difference expect me already that is our show for today remember in this world we are definitely not told we love them up so i tell you all i love you. and i'm the mystic i'll keep on watching all those hawks out there i'm a great band member. we're
