even at a gas station lately to fill up your car i bet you've noticed that gas prices are definitely rising in fact the national average price of gasoline has risen $7.05 per gallon in the last week averaging to $2.72 a gallon today now the national average is up $30.03 per gallon from a month ago and stands a 30.6 percent per gallon higher than a year ago so now imagine taking that rising cost of your vehicle and apply it to a fleet of over $500.00 trucks and tractors and just a few extra dollars bogus what that can turn into millions but who's going to pay that price well my cooch are ski who is sick owner and vice president at j. casey trunking out of chicago joins us to talk about how the rising gas prices are going to impact many areas of life some of you might not even realize thank you so

much for joining us mike. thank you for having me on the show you know 1st of all before we get to the curse and i want to talk about the past and the state of the transportation industry over the past year you know we just finished being a pandemic we're not even finished yet how did that affect your business over the past year. well being in the pandemic of the code bent on the spectrum of transportation is going to change most likely forever of food in america and it has shut down all the restaurants hotels casinos closed the food food service completely team to a screeching halt we lost over 50 percent of our volumes that we used to haul it were it was left went to the market went to the lowest bidder so it's really affected us and then time in the. uptick in volume as we come right back down so it wasn't happening transportation markets it's just been a roller coaster it's been getting worse and worse and people will say well it can't getting worse and it is getting worse now especially with our operation going

up and the gas tax as you say well it's interesting you bring that up because obviously the demand stayed the same because people still needed the goods that you're trucks transported and obviously your people were there transport i don't know if we talked about the coronavirus and the impact actually had on the driver's health physically but what was missing was actually what could go in those trucks the production of those sorts of goods that needed to go in those trucks now you come to this point you're finding out guess what you overcome that you're still in business now they're raising your gas prices which can be very very detrimental to your business but do you actually take on the costs when gas prices go up. well we do and what we do is increase the cost to whoever hires those what's going to happen is that's going to end up to the end user which is the american people we all need products so you can see in a grocery store all your favorite items going on in the restaurants or charge you more because we have to charge more so you cover our costs and business to these

goods and only hurts american people well and that's why i think people don't realize it's not just about what you're paying at the pump it's also when you go the grocery store and that continues to turn to jumble into other parts of life and you're already seeing when you go and you look at the price of milk bread every day household items you've already seen those go up those dollars every week add up at the same time people are losing their jobs it's like we're in a hamster wheel right now so you know when we're talking about gas prices that's what i want to have you on for you know there's been a real challenge these past few for years trump was wanting to make america in a dependent but obviously we have to care about the environment now you have the by the mystery taking on a whole new new role there you know they're wanting to actually go back to how it was underneath obama that being said i think it's more cost effective to have oil produced here locally at home or to import from overseas there's a lot because it's not just literally just taking it out of the ground and putting it in your car there's a lot more that goes into it in my opinion and its previous experience of course

using the oil that we have here is save money you know and it's everybody's my industry and everybody else travels and that's the thing and that's when you look at it obviously it obviously gets more people on the road but these new regulations that are being interested in this not just the trucking industry aside the various industries are all under the umbrella of climate change and obviously taking care of them vironment are there any on the trucking industry specifically and his ass and what is the result does it actually help the environment as the goal is to be. well let me bring this up yeah they're trying to transportation is very heavily regulated especially with the e.p.a. every year when the seasons 2008 they came up with particular filters on diesel equipment to help it with with the smoke and the particulars going in the air recently spec through the engine which is great for the environment but when they implement this technology wasn't really tested and what was happening is we're on

the road we're astley breaking down having shutdowns engine failure is blowing up engines because the technology wasn't ready yes it's gotten better now but it still needs a lot of. tweaking in my opinion because we're still working on the road and we've taken the road these costs you know these are additional costs are coming to us to keep them i am and clean you know i support you know keeping them i mean clean but we have to do it because they you know it works for everybody not not just a fax business is because somebody decided hey we've got to do this as soon as possible ok we're talking about coffee talk about you know efficiency and cost is there a point when gas is too expensive way again gets too much it just doesn't make fit for good to be transported via vehicle anymore and they look to other ways of transportation which actually might not be as effective or as efficient getting to the product to the consumer quick enough. so the other way or transferring product

from product is going over the rail but the problem of the rail the rail is also overwhelmed right now with. with product everybody's you know using as a backup plan or as a primary plan and there are the try to turn on a rail is usually 2 or 3 times worse and with this cold weather that happens for the trucks freezing and houston or all over the country the real most shut down and you can get product anywhere so it's. the real you can choose the real or you can choose freedom both bowls or free is very costly and the real is not the solution because it's even slower and longer. and i like that and obviously getting it off the ground immediately when you're trying to get it to act in it still even if you did rail would have had a vehicle to take it from the railway station to the grocery store themselves and that's for any part that we're dealing with little things like that logistics which actually can make such a difference on the side of you know i was going to say thank you because well so

often we forget to say thank you to those that say goodbye to their family for long periods of times just to supply the needs of our own here in america and around the world so i want to thank you and your drivers and i hope you guys continue to stay safe and hopefully we'll be able to work out this gas situation soon so your group's report thank you. well now there's a reoccurring story that we just keep hearing it needs to be addressed as a social media platforms are continuously changing the world for their users and this happens with little or no advance notice it's actually very frustrating accusations of bias censorship and even pushing one agenda over another seem to be happened consistently these days so why there's so many different standards for what is and isn't allowed in social media platforms help us understand as media and legal analyst lionel lionel thank you so much for joining us on this issue because you're very active on social media as i know at times i've never been kicked off or a per se censored maybe you have the problem is not just don't know the rules keep

changing so you know is this something that needs to be addressed via legislation is this is something the government should get involved in. well 1st of all if you have been kicked off for demonic ties or shut up and you're not doing something right if you never you only take flak when you're over the target so if you're saying something correct remember the only ban you for saying something that's true never something that's false but what they'll do is one of the reasons why they'll tell you why you're being banned for example is that you are being you are providing this information let me ask you this question this is the most important it comes down to the government actually passing legislation that would legislation sign a pen can reassign genders the mandate masks it can do anything and one of the things we have to do scotty is to we have to understand that these devices that we use are critical to commerce business social speaking communicating so they're not

just this cute little quaint social media toy let me ask you this question whatever this comes up this argument comes up without fail these are private organizations private concert private companies twitter can do what it wants facebook can do what i want look if you don't like facebook nobody's making you could have facebook facebook is free or whatever it is years ago they tried this scottie when it came to civil rights when they told black folks you can't come into this restaurant you can use this restroom you can sort of this counter and when they said you can't do this one of the business owners say it's ours we can decide whatever we want if you don't like this restaurant go down the street go someplace else well as we say in the south that dog don't hunt and the passed legislation which made these public accommodations have rules and scotty that's what we have to

do now to recognize that these platforms are in effect public communication accommodations you know what line of attack they're really interest. take on i haven't actually thought of it cause i was one of those who said you had the private company you don't like it go start your own you don't have to be on twitter you don't have to be on facebook but you're right when you look back in the past of society there have been times that said you know private citizen you can do what you want but it wasn't right and in this situation what this is and i think that's an actually good take on it that not many people are looking at it this does become a way of communication it's not just about updating your status there's a lot more these days that go into it but then that brings the question do we really want a government and i say one government the federal government getting involved we're seeing it's happening over in australia right now other governments are saying you know had social media you want to do this right we're going to get more involved in your daily life because it's obvious you're involved in ours is legislation even legally possible right now to address the idea of the move that obey and do you do

monetize or limited. absolutely listen i want and i think we want the government to come in and say let people speak back off remember one of the best things you can do like with life if you don't like something don't watch it but one of the things also was a consider scotty to look at these as utilities i ask this question all the time what if you were talking to somebody let's say your family or your friend and all the sudden your phone went dead and your carrier said you were providing misinformation or you're saying something is pro trump or add to buy or whatever you wouldn't you were you would be you you would be so livid you could say you can't tell me what i can and can't say on a phone well let me ask you if that's true then why does twitter tell you you can't mention hydroxy chloroquine and by the way i've got to mention this before we run out of time there are parents right now and children trying to get obscene

materials off of various social media platforms and they are met with the by a deaf ear they're not being spoken to they're not being addressed and whenever they say listen you're telling me that you're going to monetise me if i say something let's say were i god forbid were to question the last election but you allow images of children yes now you see here that want to explain that one to me because i can't i don't understand it and that's going on right now because when kids find themselves on the phone and they submit a photo to somebody that they think is a friend or somebody appear and there's some 45 year old guy who just sold that image try getting that off. you can't they won't talk to you but if you dare say something remember people were knocked off because the much and i proudly call rep women and this idea that we as american citizens cannot contest an

election what if they told thurgood marshall years ago listen you better stop going to court because we've already answered this segregation is you know it's american to keep fighting so this is only done by legislation now and that's going to be the call for it who actually is going to be able to do it because we are as you know big tech has some pretty big dollars up on capitol hill and their booth thing that every single chance they get we have learned it back in 2008 the big tech can help win elections or help you lose elections as in they have the last one not getting the word out in the question and you know once again it's kind of like i don't know if i have more hope what do you think are good have a better chance of getting term limits or monitoring big tech where do you think we have a better chance of getting some sort of legislation out of lionel well i think you know you know we never people say you have automatic term limits built in by not voting for that question i think term limits are almost basically presumed hospital

you've got the cartels running things it's very violent it's very it's a lot of corruption it's a it's the kind of place where if you're a good decent catholic you know mexican or central american from whichever country you allow your kids to have to grow up in that so i i think for the parents even though it's difficult i still think that there is. it's willing they're willing to take that risk because i think the alternative of staying there is very difficult now i look at immigration very black and white you know i got very upset when donald trump would get attacked for having the audacity of trying to do what the rest of the world does which is to enforce their borders you know he was called as you know phobe in all this other kind of stuff which would be absolutely ridiculous but now the 2nd part of your question why is it spiking now it's hiking because joe biden is running around putting it out there that america is going to legalize $11000000.00 illegal residents so if the russians are there are going to be

a lot of people coming in trying to sneak in trying to be part of that 11000000 that of ventura gets a pathway to citizens well and that's the thing larry right now we're talking about a $1.00 trillion dollar bill that's about to pass just for code relief alone we are trillions of dollars and debt here in the united states there's now an estimation of our 117. 1000 unaccompanied minors will cross the border this year major expenses in taking care of those miners and limitation that they're not going straight to beverly hills or to the upper east side in new york they're actually continue to go into these communities that are already stretched to resources you know should there be more of an outcry from those even specially those elected officials of those cities and guess what we can't take care of we can't even take care of the citizens that we have right now whether we're talking about education and health care so why isn't that causing calling more people to say listen we we love you but we need to take care of our citizens 1st why are we not seeing some of those outcries from those communities already stretched on resources. you know i

can't answer that i think that doug probably has something to do with the way that the media attacks you know attack president from for all these years for having the you know being an american 1st president and calling these things out for what they are i mean i think that people are kind of seemed or bullied into just seeing like what we have to do these do do all this stuff these are you know our 1st world problems as americans and you know what do you even if it's you know the detriment of their own children i think it's ridiculous quite frankly i mean i can only imagine what it must be like now in some of these communities i went to you know public school in mentor reschooling in the inner city and i remember being in a discrete there were 36 kids in my east grade class with one teacher and that was how many tens of millions of probably only legal immigrants ago so i can only imagine how bad it must be now and how can we afford it you know the other very surprising and issue that's just come out today is have been confirmed border patrol released 108 illegal immigrants who tested positive into the public and

texas officials came out and said they don't have any authority to prevent those migrants who test positive to traveling to other parts the country in fact they don't and they're doing it just on good faith that they'll return for their actual hearing you know i love it when i can't go anywhere here in washington d.c. until i get a negative test on a p.c.r. test or i'm going to face a major find is this fair to american citizens right now that we're having to live under these restrictions when those who come here illegally aren't even having to abide by them. it's absolutely ridiculous scotty has 2 sets of standards it's rewarding lawlessness i mean that i don't always believe that that was a whole oxymoron the law abiding illegal immigrant i mean you're pretty much breaking the law from the moment you step out american soil you know illegally so i don't know why we're treating these people in this manner i think it's ridiculous i think that obviously i think the big set up your now that it's you know they have total legislative control the democrats have the upper and lower chamber and they
