selves lost in the grip of archaic cold war era thinking and spending and now where is that and nowhere is that more prevalent than in the united states obsession with nucular weapons common dreams reports that in the in a new report separate publication next week the federation of american scientists has found that not only is the us government planning to spend $264000000000.00 tax dollars on some brand new nuclear missiles but that the quote construction and maintenance of a new nuclear missile are mostly being fueled by intense lobbying from the powerful weapons industry not rational or human strategic objectives. of course they are and what is even more chilling is that according to the guardian the federation's report will soberly point out that quote it is becoming increasingly clear that there has not been a serious consideration of what role does cold war era weapons are supposed to play
12:31 pm
in a post cold war security environment meaning my friends that the united states government and its puppet ears in the military industrial complex don't really even know why they're building nuclear weapons just that they must build them. china russia jobs freedom security and national defense although most likely be the excuses we will hear spew forth when military industrial visuals are given their usual free air time on our news networks in order to sell us on just how important nuclear weapons are in an age where the biggest threats we face is not from warmongers abroad but from unbridled narcissism within which means my friends it is time as always to start watching the hawks. in a city you street want to see. there so you can see that this is joyce
12:32 pm
state. great city slaves systemic deceptions late show which were so good you'll. welcome everyone to watching the hawks i am very well and i'm on the ship and a major cross i've got a really fun factoid to tell you today are you ready for this currently 400 nuclear minutemen missiles are spread across 5 states in the united states colorado montana nebraska north dakota and wyoming doesn't it make you feel nice and warm and cozy when you go to an area under some people and secondarily when we just saw all security forces speaking before congress just last week about the greatest threat to america the greatest threat to our security it's a homegrown terrorism a white supremacy so how does this stop any of that that is the big question that
12:33 pm
everyone's asking and why are we spending you know 260 some odd 1000000000 dollars to essentially build new ones when a lot of people are saying well if we already have the old ones why don't we just retrograde the old ones or why don't we just get rid of the entire idea of a new coal nuclear arsenal at all because this is the 21st century we're not talking about you know communist russia and the arms race and all that why do we need so many. the current estimate is that the basic acquisitions cost to kind of rebuild our nuclear defense structure that's that's where you know missiles flying out of the ground intercept is about $100000000000.00 while the total cost is 264000000000 and it's projected lifespan when done with all this would last until 2075 yeah. i want to read you this quote this is interesting you even a former secretary of defense is up and coming out saying i don't know if this is the correct course former defense secretary william perry told the guardian quote i think they are going to make the wrong decision these arguments in favor of maintaining the triad have been so grown into us through the years it's very
12:34 pm
unlikely that they will find a way of rising above that is that one of the problems i mean we know lobbying in those efforts from the military industrial complex are a big part of it but it's the other problem that we have just the sort chaotic way of thinking about certain things in this country that we cannot move into the 21st century and i think it is but we only employ it for ourselves we have absolutely no problem with telling other nations that you know have nuclear weapons that they should get rid of them they should not you know they should not not only not be proliferating but they should have them at all and they are all about dismantling the nuclear weapons they currently have in their in their nations however here it seems that is absolutely ok to keep them and we don't really have a necessity with them at the end of the day we've had these conversations time and time again that is the method of war that we have almost a list of lee agreed is something we do not need to be using just because of the detriment it causes to communities to families that may have nothing to do with any attack that may happen on us personally and we always forget we're the only nation in the history of the entire planet that several actually used them in battle twice and but you know who's going to wildly disagree with you is is the one and only liz

cheney. yes dick cheney's daughter who lives in the state of wyoming wrote represent a wanted to actually last summer cut about a $1000000000.00 from the ground based strategic nuclear deterrent and use that money to fight code would she jumped all over him saying quote i don't think the chinese government frankly could imagine in their wildest dreams that they would have been able to get a member of the u.s. congress to propose in response to the pandemic that we ought to cut a $1000000000.00 out of our nuclear forces i mentioned wyoming right well guess what wyoming hosts the minutemen complex at the warner air force base that's big money that's big jobs that's big lobby and we know why she has that kind of loyalty to the red white and blue liz cheney have been a warmonger for a very long time but in the interesting thing about that quote is that she mixes it in with what the pandemic and for the average american there caring about how to paint how to pay their bills how to keep a roof over their heads when you think about the cost of preserving the and what it
12:36 pm
could actually go towards me just all the you know stimulus package and its passage but surely with this is that we're going to let them out of money spent on something that has nothing to do with pandemic relief at all and when they bring up china i want to end this just to give you a look people will food for another when they bring up china on the threat of china right now china has an estimated 320 nuclear warheads we have an estimated 3800. i don't think we have not going to try to put it off but i think china is rightfully scared of us we're the only country that's ever dropped them. the business of news just keeps getting more complicated more polarize and less objective. the promise of a new network that would focus on just the facts bringing you the news that mattered most free of opinion and bias that shock waves across new circles this idea paid homage to the original big 3 c.b.s. n.b.c. and a.b.c.
12:37 pm
in those old days of walter cronkite but it seems next hours news nation isn't living up to its lofty ideals and key staff departures and infighting over the abrupt shift in the direction the channel is taking is raising concerns the channel previously known as w.g. in america confirmed on tuesday that jennifer lyons t.v. news veteran who led the launch of news nation last fall has resigned her post as v.p. of news this comes as several production staff writers editors and others quit just last week after learning that bill shine the former fox news executive and former white house deputy chief of staff for communications with the station to the right though shine doesn't have a formal role with next star or news nation he does serve as their consultant his past role in shaping fox as a hard hitting right wing haven and his influence in the truck white house doesn't exactly make him the poster child objectivity or facts news nation started off with
12:38 pm
well intentions but even before the shine shakeup those intentions weren't met with fewer enthusiasm in fact the network fell below the 100000 viewer threshold and in some cases as low as 2000 viewers can do youtube videos on plato war the net but even with boiling viewership nexstar added more time slots to news nation. and on the print journalism side buzz feed recently announced deep staff cuts and layoffs to the hope post newsroom 3 weeks after flying acquiring it from horizon media the merger itself calls some frustration especially for young journalists that continue to see their work utilized but their time at these companies devalued . but 19th swept through like a tornado in the media industry resulting in low ebb hiring freezes and layoffs in a statement busby c.e.o. jonah peretti said quote the buzz feed is a profit of a company we don't have the resources to support another 2 years of losses. the
12:39 pm
site struggle for several years and digital ad space on by facebook and google has made it difficult for digital media companies to compete. to take in their lot to say good you know the one thing that was interesting to me about the news nation is the is they like you said they started off with a larger goal the subject of what there is way too much opinion and new work tired of like the talking heads we see on c.n.n. and b.b.c. fox it's all opinion all day long we're just going to go straight down the middle facts and then they seem to like apparently according to the staff leaving them things like that they just kind of flopped on that completely and then decided to switch to go to opinion correct and yes i think that what ended up happening was the idea was peer in its start and we're going to hire a long time journalist people who are known people who work primarily in local news and major markets but not necessarily commentators not opinion people not opinion writers just straight news folks it worked they launched originally last september
12:40 pm
but not to the fanfare they expected because as much as people talk about they don't want to pinion in news they don't want to see the back and forth in the fighting between you know liberals and and conservatives at the end of the day it makes money and it gets viewership so what news nation into doing was saying that their viewership was dismal at best and this was pretty cool but there there it was horrible but in addition to that they didn't have the ad buy but no one was actually watching so the question i have is who are american viewers and the argument that you don't want commentary that you want this straight news when you are given that you don't watch it so is that actually what you really want that's yeah that's the that's the tragedy in the room isn't that is that we're so can i think it's because we're so conditioned as a society to believe that when you watch 2 people fighting each other that somehow it's how we should take in information and then that's kind of been slowly chipped away because it got to remember that the one of the big reasons the. news went bad or went south of is actually 60 minutes because 60 minutes shows that you could make ratings and you could get ad buys. newser room to remember 60 minutes and that
12:41 pm
drove the all the costa shares up almost rigid originally most corporations today were it's ok we'll take a loss on the news we don't care if nobody watches it we're ok because it's a public service that ana a think that one of the other issues that we're seeing is particularly in the news nation case is that you have bill shine who was known for his leadership as a box executive also some other cheating things that happened there but then moved on to the top administration and then the white house he is somebody who has an obvious partisan bent you say that it's clear it's evident hiring him even though he's a consultant and doesn't actually have an executive team title still shows where next nation is going yeah and one sued the problem is true is that we are such a polarized kind of tribalistic society now when it comes to our information and how we get it that the moment you suddenly lose half your audience because if they see that name attached then suddenly it's like oh well i was going to be all conservative all day long i'm not you know every liberal or everybody left wing
12:42 pm
they're going to i can't trust that you know and independents too because once you get that stay in a fox it's interesting though when you look at it when you mention as well how cold it is like some made it online and then you have these giant mergers like we need more corporate mergers but this one between huff post and buzz feed you know again that's one of the things that just bothers me not only for journalists out there but also for people because the more you see these conglomerates merge the less avenues of news that we did because those control but still many you know just a few companies and not a lot and you're absolutely correct and that was one of the things that when the a merger was initially announced people were pushing back against because they knew that this will look very different they knew that they were more than likely going to be some major cuts on the horizon and that the voice of the writers the waste of the authorship was going to change so they had a very strong pushback against it in large part the argument was hey digital media is going in a different direction we're having crazy fierce competition again the ad buys are very difficult with facebook and google basically having the entire. market so what
12:43 pm
are you going to do. and what i'm curious to is you know look there's been a lot of heavy calls in our group that we need unions in the news business and we need you know the existing unions need to be brought up and things like that what has been the union response to these massive layoffs well it depends on the media company but when we're talking about huff post and what we're seeing with busby the unions have been very serious about trying to issue some sort of protection so they work very hard to make sure that workers aren't just you know thrown thrown out at the door so that you they have initiated severance pay but they're also working towards again making this a more equitable workplace for those who still happen to be there because one of the issues that happened but also at huff post was that minority writers and minorities who are also in productions that were necessarily getting their top billing they were getting pay equity at all so that's $1.00 of the things that they were surprising to hear that word you know 2 companies that kind of pride themselves on the on the liberal on a very progressive belief system but they don't practice with that
12:44 pm
a little chill back there when you think less than an hour everybody as we go to break remember that you can also start watching the locks on the man through the brand new portable t.v. which is available on all platforms for the family check it out coming up we're going to look at the ongoing fight for transgender rights here in the united states of america very important issue as we continue watching. some control from the middle. of the night most of them are very hardworking people who want to get ahead that either have some some health issues or have some other strict about like the whole time. pay for a place to live and missing just a month's rent can get she was dictated. gunpoint if anything bad happens to any

thing that just throws your budget off slightly. you better catch up real quick or you're going to have a judgment of possession against you and get addicted anyone that's homeless is history like garbage people look at you like a monster or someone bad or you chose to be there most of the time it's not the case see how it is to be pole in the world's richest country. by the demick no certainly no blood is just blind to nationalities. has emerged we don't cover territory we don't have the facts in the whole world needs to be ready people. judge you. come in a crisis what is christensen's moment times we can do better we should.
12:46 pm
everyone is contributing each in our own way but we also know that this crisis will not go on forever the challenges grateful to response has been must so many good people are helping us. it makes us feel very proud that we are in it together. the hash tag biden or raced women is trending among conservative all right in religious circles on social media now pew questioning just how biden did that you're not alone of course women are still visible in american society we have
12:47 pm
a female vice president for goodness sakes but what the hash tag actually speaks to is transpose. despite the fact that trans people and trans women in particular suffer from abuse at hiding rates are murdered without recourse and are discriminated against in the workplace finding housing health care in so many other areas conservatives seem hell bent on ignoring all of that and going full throttle in further isolating the trans community president joe biden has signaled his support for federal funding for trans health care to address the next what he's dismantling housing discrimination aimed at the community supporting transgender military service and withdrawing from a controversial connecticut law suit to trump administration advocated for the connecticut lawsuit seeks to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls' high school sports the lawsuit was initially filed last year by sister gender runners who argued that they lost their competitive advantage in state titles athletic scholarships and other opportunities if they were to compete against
12:48 pm
athletes or male there is a war against transgender girls waged by republican state leaders as well. south dakota governor christie gnome is set to sign a bill that restricts transgender women from competing on high school and college girls and women's teams in arkansas the state house panel advanced legislation banning gender confirming health care for minors this measure would prohibit doctors from providing gender confirming hormone treatment to minors or even referring them to other providers a huge setback for transgender youth all in all over 24 states have introduced bills targeting trans people 16 states have bills that would criminalize didn't care for trained youth that include torment therapy and puberty blocking medication joining us now is taylor chandler was transgender health coordinator for us helping us people into living welcome. thank you for having me guys. well
12:49 pm
taylor as a trainer advocate writer and line service provider what are your thoughts on the aggressive bills aimed at limiting trans women and girls participating in sports and what do you think this signals why is the right criminalizing gender. you know that i feel like through history there's always been somebody that's been on there and of conservatives i call on christian republicans. and at this point there's no evidence to back up what they're fighting against there's not this mad domination of sports by trans individuals never has been it's very rare that someone of trans experience is even in in the higher levels of competition where they're winning yet this is the target. so they're in essence in my mind saying it's ok for us to be in sports as long as we don't win which seems ridiculous to. i'm not sure where this comes from.
12:50 pm
but i know that on the local level the facts are being thrown out because like you said all those states that have bills in front of the legislature to limit restrict access to public spaces that are or what they define as women as well as competition in sports under title 9. these are going to have far reaching you know effects and we saw this start over in the united kingdom where the court system actually is now involved in gender affirming care for people under i believe at 13 and so in order to have puberty blockers or any kind of medication intervention or surgery it has to be deemed necessary by a court now not just a doctor or a health care. you know you've spoken about the need for expanded access to hormone
12:51 pm
therapy gender affirming care and puberty blocking medication particularly for the new there is a ton of angsty on this topic because you've got a lot of naysayers who don't believe young people have the ability to decide their gender or they're just confused or whatever they're going through a phase what do you say to them and why is advancing access to hormone therapy in puberty medication such a priority and why is it important for trans youth in order to get these things and to have access to these very important procedures. i mean 1st and foremost gender affirming care is life or death you take that away from someone that so young going through 'd gender identity conflict and you will see the suicide rates go through the roof. you know at this point it it boggles my mind it really really does. for me personally and
12:52 pm
how i see it is that gender affirming care to young aids prevents. you know all of what we're facing now to go on this care as a you to transition living your truth you don't masculinized you don't go through these processes that 18 if they pass these laws you would have to undo them all. and with title not mine it almost puts trans youth in a situation of being outed because so many lives still they go to school their schoolmates do not know what's between their legs and i would i pose this to the op the audience the viewers do you look between your legs to know who you are i've never done that and what happens if you are in an accident your lower extremities were gone jews that no longer have a gender you know if if i took your genitals away you wouldn't automatically
12:53 pm
think you're a woman if i put your genitals on to me she wouldn't automatically be a man no one agenda five's who they are by what's between their legs and you know who's going to do this litmus test you know if if i'm in a hospital have gone through a rape and i'm saying i want same sex nurses while what if i think there's something and i'm wrong in my going to make them drop trial and show me their genitalia and in my own expert on genitalia to know if it's genitalia from birth or from a doctor's office or great point really great point and tailor e-mail that by the administration is no doubt a lot more friendly than the trouble ministration what do you think they're going far enough you know the top administration appointed judges that had an title to miti bents they allowed for religion to be used on the basis to discriminate against the community and even gave adoption agencies the green light to deny l g
12:54 pm
b t couples that ability to become parents what are concrete policies that you expect from the white administration that can. reverse course from what we saw from trump but also address the concerns that all going concerns ability. i mean right now where we're there i want the equality act passed and i want all of these radical feminist groups that are popping up across the country that are trying to remove the the transgender verbiage in the equality act to stop. there's no evidence to back up any of what's being claimed we need protections we have gay marriage that's great but in reality stonewall was started by black and brown trans women black pride came out of black and brown bodies at the forefront black women and cheer we are all these years later and you know we
12:55 pm
think of pride and it's run in large part by white organizations when in reality it is rooted in black pride and obviously. you take the situations that are facing trans people across. all demographics but at the end of the day it's still black and brown trans people that are facing the of all of what's happening and not getting the services and care and lack trans women are still being murdered at alarming numbers and to me it's not even necessarily a transition it goes back to as a country we need to value black law we most definitely do it's a human issue at the end of the day and love in our brothers and sisters and i want to thank you so much for the good work that you're doing out there and fighting and fighting for those rights that we all deserve because we are all brothers sisters taylor walker thank you so much for joining us today and educate our audience. and
