12:30 pm
the machines we spoke to sunrise movement spoke about through j.p. made last week but it has me getting much press attention around the world obviously. i have to like jane fonda being the man that local media in the us was covering it what why is it so crucial not just to the united states to native americans but to the whole world it's about this overall problem that we have that we're all spacing together wishes climate crisis climate change and the irrevocable impacts that are happening rather well there is a helicopter past there i have right now. that it's only. sorry i have to actually document what's happening in real time of course just tell me about the arrest is it private lloyd fort hood is it local enforcement obviously the authorities do not want you protesting this pipeline snow and actually myself when all if you continue our beds were not arrested we were served with summons after the fact with like almost half a dozen charges and
12:31 pm
a very clear attempt to silence the and dishonest women that have been forward facing in this campaign and fight against line 3 there have been almost 200 arrests now at this point of people out in 40 below 30 below temperatures chain themselves to machines crawling into pipelines crawling on top of pipelines doing everything and anything that we can to stop and delay construction of this terrible projects this is something that's being fought in the legal systems by 3 different tribes so embers keep saying over and over again and they said right after jane fonda went on m.s.n. b.c. well we've been consulting with tribal nations and that's what we've been doing since the tribal nations are suing here you know naming it it's obviously not great consultation when you're being sued they don't agree with here we don't agree with you we want you off our land and out of this territory and we want to take your dirty fossil fuels and keep them in the ground like that's what the earth needs that's a human's need where it is a situation of climate crisis and to build a 10 percent expansion of the tar sands that's what line 3 is just that same.
12:32 pm
pipeline project 10 percent expansion of the tar sands the dirtiest fossil fuel in the world it's time for change and we're looking for biden to do something about it because he says he's going to be the climate president so it's a trans national pipeline all the way including the united states and canada there and it's a bi project in a way because it's an obama era pipeline and you know enbridge says that actually environmental impacts related to the construction of the pipeline will be primarily related to temporary disturbance to land wetlands and water bodies and obama of course wanted it to happen because it will protect the environment let alone jobs yeah they always go for this this route of you know protect the environment because the old line is leaking it is about jobs you know these very creation of jobs what the reality is is that you. shouldn't start from the threshold of we need this pipeline in the 1st place instead of replacing it pull it out of the ground pull the old leaking line out of the ground and transition away from fossil fuels that's
12:33 pm
what all this climate crisis and all these different climate folks are saying is we need to transition away from fossil fuels so building one of the largest tar sands infrastructure projects in north america tripling the capacity of line 3 has nothing to do with that it's a brand new project in a brand new routes and bridges current route is full of pipelines and that's why they want this particular route they they have it going through hundreds of untouched wetlands we're talking over $800.00 wetlands and $200.00 bodies of water they want that route because there's nothing else senate and so they can build 4 more pipelines that's their plan that they've admitted to in the process and as far as it being an obama you know era pipeline there are pieces of it that were considered joining up on the administration but that the projects water crossing permits were issued under trump that is this that is absolutely 100 percent what ember doesn't want to talk about the 4 of 4 water crossing permits which is what this is all about for a lot of northern minnesotans the hundreds of bodies of water including the mississippi river one of the most famous rivers in the world shots was done under
12:34 pm
trump and there was never a federal environment and viral impact statement under the army corps of engineers so that's what we're asking for in that's what we're looking to buy in for well that's biden's d.o.j. saying that things will be better if this pipeline is built and your right way you are is with the ludus in la and oil spill in history happened and in the usa you don't want that to happen again right i mean where we were actually the president was discovered happening again. there were 70 arrests over when people were praying . in commemoration of the largest and the spill in u.s. history which was by ambridge which was along these rivers and routes so we're talking about. the answer to a continuing problem is not to continue the problem building more pipeline infrastructure for fossil fuels and the expansion of the fossil fuel industry is not in the best interests of humanity it's not the best interest of all living beings on earth that's what we're saying if ambridge is hell bent on creating new
12:35 pm
jobs create thousands of jobs decommissioning your old line and remediating the incredible amount of harm that you cause of the soil here already you don't put in a new pipeline that's going to spill in new leaks and new places that's just that has nothing to do with trying to protect the environment and everything to do with expanding the fossil fuel industry most of this is even for us and that's part of why it minnesota department of commerce is suing minnesota for mrs public utility commission so the state is actually suing itself that's what's happening because they couldn't prove their city to get of need they couldn't demonstrate that the oil was from minnesota they can demonstrate that the risk is needed for minnesota ok well at the federal level i mean james funder of course associated with the democrats i mean you think biden will listen to you and the hundreds of protesters he got one nuff $1000000.00 in donations from fossil fuel industry sources why would he listen to somebody. so he's done this thing with keystone x.l.
12:36 pm
and he's in a position himself very strongly and vocally as the climate president that was one of the 1st things he said and i think that's because the democratic party recognizes that climate is the number one issue for young voters that said. how do you sit there and have something like this on your plate how do you be responsible for the largest tar sands infrastructure project in north america while you're the climate president we have been meeting with the white house regularly actually have another meeting with them to discuss line 3 into this custom code access pipeline was also needs to be decommissioned these are not things that are going to go away we are going to continue to resist and continue to get war jane fonda's and celebrities and whatever it takes for the national spirit to listen and hear us when we're talking about you know more and that includes indigenous rights as well if he's going to change make this huge change and have depth hollymead a 1st cabinet position ever for a native person there has to be more than just that acknowledgement there has to be
12:37 pm
a respect for indigenous treaty rights and for what we're trying to do which is protect our own land i was going to get on to the senate confirmation of death but island last week i mean does that make a big difference this is the 1st native american a cabinet member i should say i'm speaking to you 399 years to the day of the jamestown victory or massacre depending on you see it when chief pilot and said your coming is is is to invade my people and possess my country some people said it's cultural genocide that alone the as you said human extinction dimension we're making steps forward hollins confirmation is historic and now it's the 1st time since this country began that there is a you that there's a native american sitting in a cabinet position and and no i have a personal relationship with dab i endorsed her for the for her original run in new mexico as a congressional seat for a congressional seat. that said department of the interior actually doesn't have a lot of say over particular projects like this. but she still has an enormous
12:38 pm
amount of influence right as a cabinet member as says gina mccarthy who was obama's environmental protection agency head so you have some of these characters that have been recycled as well. a lot of fracking went on obama and the county access pipeline happened under obama as well people forget that piece like it wasn't just trump when it came to dakota access all of that happened mostly under obama i mean i say this is a person that worked in the white house e.q. under obama i was i was my 1st internship at n.b.c. that happened in that administration because when it comes to climate when it comes to the environment that tends to be one of the issues i think that democrats have always bargain with they've always taken the same sides oftentimes as republicans and conservatives because their campaigns frankly are funded by the same folks or at least have donations from similar groups special interest groups like that i think joe biden is trying to signal a change because he recognizes what voters want that said i mean. putting in some
12:39 pm
progressive members like ted holland is a step in the right direction but what's happening globally in the world with rising seas with massive fires and you know we're talking like the whole western half of like the united states being on fire now for like a big significant portion of the year it's happening climate crisis is happening and these little incremental steps are just not enough to address the problem over here in britain there's been a huge conversation about male violence to women i understand there are some allegations denied by precision pipeline one of the contractors we have said they remain steadfast their commitment to compliance with human rights to be navigations about human sex trafficking associated with the building of the pipeline. unfortunately we warned the state about this because it happens in every single
12:40 pm
situation in which there's an infrastructure project next to native native places which tend to be rural places. when we're talking about threading it through somewhere that people don't see it's next to reservations it's next to small rural communities as i speak with you right now there are 5000 people in northern minnesota 5000 workers most of them are from out of state and marriage fell woefully short on employing local people and that means there's all these temporary man camps that are created we're talking hundreds and hundreds of workers that are living and working together and his temporary facilities and where they're going to go they're going to go to the communities that are next door that means an uptick in sex trafficking and smile and crimes and drug use in all kinds of societal ills that come with doing what's in to human we there was a sex trafficking ring that was just busted over in grand rapids and 2 the people in it were embers employees and byrd said well they've been fired and we do this we do this training for employees to make sure that they understand the risks of missing and murdered indigenous women and relatives that they know about this you
12:41 pm
know. sensitive issue area as i understand it from a former embers employee who's been speaking out they got a half hour training on that is just a minor little blip and to coming into a territory that's not your own to destroy territory that's not your own well ambridge say they they fully comply just finally you've been in d.c. and you're there on the ground and and their native american why do you think it is that the squad say or some of the younger democrats in washington putting this whole thing to stage given that you're saying this implicates the future of the entire earth let alone native american communities what why aren't they talking about this all the time i know that people are talking about the minimum wage in the mobley 9 trillion coronavirus plan. actually congresswoman omar has been in this camp she's been where i'm sitting right now and she's part of that
12:42 pm
squad and she's been very very vocal about line 3 and about that my license that to indigenous peoples and indigenous rights and so there are folks who are in our corner and we see a more progressive movement happening within congress and within our elected offices around the globe not just here in the united states. but at the same time they're still whole slug of the old way of doing things the way that's the status quo and this is how we've always done it at the same time and the people's power is what's is really pushing all of this and i'm calling you from the same state minnesota that is also about to be to lose with the george floyd murder trial while the social injustice issues are being led by the people so it's to me it's just an issue that people being empowered and the people finding our voices and using them to push these others decision makers to do the right thing the risk of thank you
12:43 pm
after the break we go to yemen at present the site of the west humanitarian crisis in the world. always be polite never engage with a negative a good or confrontational officer. don't get into any conversation or start answering questions just ask for an attorney. by the terror group got it right. definitely don't want to be going to trial. want to come out. you're more likely to walk free if you're rich and guilty if you work and. you've got 2 eyes and 2 heirs and one mouth. so you should be seen in here and a whole lot more than you're saying if you don't take that advice easy going to dig

12:46 pm
back tomorrow marks one year since u.k. prime minister boris johnson announced the 1st coronavirus lockdown here something he blames for his decision to slash aid to the world's worst humanitarian crisis yemen nevertheless british bombs that landed in yemen continue to make money for britain let's go straight to yemen's capital to hear from john that's on the ground hussein because he is and thank you so much for coming on as i said the u.k. continuing to sell weapons which he used in yemen we've now got a nuclear weapon. to increase our nuclear weapons stockpile what is the situation there on the ground in yemen right now. since the biden. but it didn't actually become wards especially. that is a total they have blocked. fuel ships that comes into yemen through what they doubled to. hospitals on many businesses out of closing.
12:47 pm
many called. allow fuel to come into yemen because you know that everything in yemen or in country depend on fuel on the last few a ship that has. a date up or it was in the 27th of. january just a week by didn't reach it as the president on this show you know that actually that that by the administration is no different from but i think. they have not blocked. with this type of amount of the ships to come into yemen on a symbol for anyone who want to check that ship that i've brought phone with me i mean they can use. this show you the amount of suffering that yemen's. go through the same time we see that there are more. deals struck with the saudi arabia
12:48 pm
especially with the united kingdom who has increased the sales of weapons to saudi arabia but in the same time they have cut aid to come into yemen does show you the amount of hypocrisy that. there is clearly and britain policies in the region and especially in yemen joe biden says he's ending support for saudi your friends have weapons so there are no bombs behind you dropping by the united states today yet maybe there's no bombs dropped on for an hour today but there are tens of bombs on dozens of air strikes from saudi arabia conducted on yemen in other areas they might have stopped every now and then on sun i'm very reason for that is because that yemeni army here in sanaa is continue to strike saudi covetable and to strike other areas that's why saudi sometimes they try to avoid targeted the capital but was the hurting yemeni the most is the closure of
12:49 pm
some airport on the closure of how they don't port which is the the lifeline as the united nations have said for 70 percent of yemeni population comes through what they did i just point there is a total. closure of that area but i want to i want to mention that there will be biden said that he will stop at the house they have not stopped the commander of the u.s. army in the region 2 weeks ago have said that they are still studying those weapons sales to saudi arabia united arab emirates any say we find some difficulties because someone had been which are to attack they could be considered as a defense weapons and united states has clearly said they will continue to defend saudi arabia and saudi arabia declared the war on yemen because they say they want to defend themselves from the threat that comes. and out as they say from the host is i can promise you if united states will stop although i didn't say it's to saudi
12:50 pm
arabia or to the united arab emirates the war will end in a matter of days or weeks because saudi cannot continue with the united states fueling the fight that is yet to strike yemen they cut they cut saudi cannot actually enforce a full blockade on yemen only with the help of the united states so do you cannot actually use the battery with missiles to defend themselves they cannot. coordinate that strike on yemen only with the help with the u.s. and british drones that's why this involvement is still going on yemen and here we will know that united states stop its supporters all got idea if we are not here in any airstrike on any corner of yemen well i know tens of millions face death arguably in yemen but the special envoy the u.n. special envoy martin griffiths who is often quoted in the media here. boris johnson's ministers he has condemned the blockade of for data but he says he has
12:51 pm
concerns about the hooty offensive on mari and in fact he's been. talking about the strikes on their own crew facilities say we're getting a lot of news about it's hitting a room go so presumably biden wants defensive weapons to protect around go on oil resources in saudi arabia to be honest with you martin give it is becoming so biased toward saudi arabia and his latest statement to the united nation as well his to his tweets he has not mentioned saudi arabia he has condemned the attack on saudi oil facility he said that they will want to improve human and. to improve aid coming in to yemen and he as well mentioned the strike. on some our days ago he has not said who is behind those strikes because it's clearly saudi
12:52 pm
arabia and why are so worried about saudi oil infrastructure is because saudi with oh yeah well they can have money and then they can actually pay united states and united kingdom for their weapons that's why we have seen the end the last i think $3.00 or 4 months that you're ok has announced that they will send a british army personnel with some equipment to help saudi to defend themselves against those attacks and to strike but why they have actually targets the oil in the structure because saudi are night state and u.k. are broken or oil and fuel rich in yemen but they are actually supporting saudi to defend themselves to protect the oil because the oil is like the bucket or the safe for saudi arabia of course it was the who he is responsible for the greatest oil price spike in history lately strikes trying to seem to be having much effect but i think what more than grievance may be tried again with the reports of war nearly
12:53 pm
a 1000 people may be women and children killed by hooty strikes on murray or are we getting freaked me was actually fake most of the attack on the strike that are. conducted against the saudi backed forces in madrid are all. main saudi army or saudi backed forces army facility the half are not strike the city but to be honest with you some are when they have actually liberated name of son are close to marriage they have. released and it's just a false statement they say we will stop the advance i'm very brazen against marriage only if. the massive government will burn the road between sanaa and merit because many people has to suffer because they have. go all the way around the world to. the government of might it should stop making matter of city as
12:54 pm
a base for the attack on yemen or in some areas or under the control of some our government and they have asked that i had ago they have not accepted that and matt it has become now they are becoming the base of isis and al qaida in north of yemen and this is clearly that they lighted kingdom on united states support for saudi arabia is that that it support that goes. on isis and i just want to add that out of 4 people on the list of u.s. treasury list for supporting al qaida one of them is abdul have a former economy which is the head of the cell of the party he was a member of had the government to geneva one and as well the governor of a job as an act about his own united stated interest for terrorism and he's now live he's now in a matter of fighting with his groves of his side by side with the saudi backed forces so this show you that united kingdom actually is involved in directly in
12:55 pm
supporting al qaida well in fact we can't confirm any of that and in fairness to mainstream media like the associated press they also said that the saudis or alleged saudis or cut deals with al qaeda i mean just very briefly you started out by talking about this blockade of the data port is that why marie be so important for the population of yemen i understand 90 percent of liquefied petroleum gas used for cooking and eating comes from is a very important actually that they get it because all we hear about here is backed by iran this is a proxy war iran is involved in yemen some people say that like the goal of head of the host is a vote of the oil in market but i mean let's say they control the oil and gas of motive how can we out how can they hated. worth that fuel and sell it i mean there is a blockade but the main goal is to liberate america and the main goal is to disadvantaged
12:56 pm
saudi arabia in for i.d.m. and one of those to do the saudi arabia. and to attack them in their homeland and would they say about iran and just the lies that they try to spread in the media i mean there's a bloke 8. that they are targeting every single small fishing boat boat there's maybe only 2 or 3 meter long how can iran smuggle ballastic missile that is 12 metres long and wait a few tons i mean this is this is i mean impossible i mean no one can think of that but the 2 tell you gloat that they're yemeni previous yemeni rejean houle their stockpile of weapons and yemen used to be a hub for why bin sales to many. regions especially in africa that's why when on top of the whole we took power they have got so many weapons on as well they have developed an upgrade some other weapons unless the honest with you if let's say
12:57 pm
there's the saudi what they are saying is true that iran is supplying weapons to yemen i mean yemen you have the right to get the weapons from anywhere in the world to defend their country i mean saudi weapons is not made inside riyadh or made inside it's all brought thousands hundreds of miles away from you ok from france from the united states so why they all they they don't want him any either to use any wobbles i'm in the what they want us to do here and some are just to throw flowers toward them meanwhile they are striking and hitting on targets in yemen and i just want to add one more thing you know you have to say that they're all year and guys revenue and matter if it's about 80 percent of yemeni income or budget and this is totally true but we have seen in the latest statement of mr grave it in the . u.n. security council he has told about how they did it in you just imagine her the. that even you what of they said that used to come to her data that if you are all
