newtok is a very rural. community with their language and their culture and their subsistence it's really strong here still and that's a good thing but worst case scenario my fear is that a couple of houses are lost families or are displaced and have to move to other communities or bethel with other family members and that yeah this that that new village doesn't get built quick enough for new talk to move there and then it community ends up. with this the river the truck. never wrong. for folks who believe that sense of belonging
11:32 pm
is taken away so then you have to try to reestablish that. you're not thank you every day that i got a whole lot of money here you get those conveniences but what use is that access to food and access to community and when you're part of a tribe it's very difficult to leave and not kill a sense of loss. to see this gas station or. someone going to some guy was shot here last summer got killed right there the gas station a boy or somebody got shot and killed or just last week to reconfigure another guy to show up. there was a couple gunshots at one time. or something like 44 and.

versus autocracy for biden we are in another great ideological struggle but there is a difference the west particularly the united states is the only ideological actor . all of the information in the world when you put it together and process that simultaneously. to 0 it adds up to nothing all the allusion of differentiation will be obliterated the illusion of making a profit will be obliterated because we're entering into a period of the singularity. we're going to believe it's a cluster. and that's for me. oh it's actually happening i mean these crews are serious finally.
11:44 pm
just in the nick of time to your. hours as some of the hours ahead of danger broader. you can breathe to. earth and. to be knocked. down a little. and i think that. the burden kind of at the news site must have picked was basically orchestrated to. celebrate 6 this 2017 constructions. and the celebration was not only to how. congratulate the tribe and the community for perseverance through the process and getting to this point
11:45 pm
but to also help them recognize that things are happening and there is hope for their future and that they're not just being forgotten. it would. be. better as. a stage in this one. to start building. dissipate and losing home to this discovery. is this what people are afraid of. and there's actually a family. moving pitching a tent over it. because they're afraid. that albertine she is worried. me going to cool their. graves across their own head.

and then through the it we're going to be working on the design for the community and streets and then next year we'll be finishing the 4 houses that are currently getting started and then building one other house and hopefully move or at least secure funding for housing for future has. not. been good work like a couple years ago when we started. the military helping the village to relocate. and we're happy to have. a new car at the new building sorry. and as you can see a turn will bear kinder into to lay down here in a base camp which will be the name was for the next several years for us as we roll
11:50 pm
in every summer here one of the questions i get asked all the time is why are the marines moving alaskan native village how come you guys to use that what you guys do now is that you can fight you think better to do the truth of the matter is the marine corps has no business in relocating in alaska native village that's not what we do but what we do we do is train our brains and sailors in the other service personnel involved in expeditionary engineering projects and to do something so far away from home if you will up in the remote alaskan tundra in a difficult place to get to by by boat by air every kind of way this is exactly the type of challenge that offers us a training opportunity i think it's a good thing for the region it's a good thing for. residents to really see the start of this. the obvious is going to take awhile it's not happening fast enough for me but you know to have all the assets the united states government involved in this project
11:51 pm
is pretty amazing and. i'm glad it's here. someone said it might be 3 to 5 years. however that is under the most favorable conditions i think 5 years israel will stick and it also allows. the community to gradually build. as the infrastructure comes food water shelter and got the food 95 percent subsistence lifestyle because they didn't have access to a store they still live water they have cleaner water their water has been a challenge in newtown. poil water notice for over 10 years and so having access to clean drinking water is huge.
11:52 pm
and that shelter you know the homes and you talk it's all i can we were not built for that arctic they were not built for that and vironment. and their 18 that were already because they weren't designed for that place. on. this one. you know times. so much. so could. have another. i don't mind paying down the. 24 years and we have to with their just water. i'm going to move across there. soon i'm good and pioneer at the coverage.

everything in our power to protect it. climate change poses the same threat right now. and that's why i care so deeply about this if we do nothing and temperatures in alaska are projected to rise between 6 and 12 degrees by the end of the century . and it runs all of us with hardship not just. people up north. not many other places in america that to deal with those questions right now but there will be. what's happening here. is america's wake up call it should be the world's wake up call.
