over $2000000000.00 on the influence and control of our elected officials according to a newly released study by americans for financial reform during the 20192020 election cycle wall street alone spent at least $2900000000.00 on campaign contributions and lobbying to influence policy in washington that's almost $3000000000.00 my friends that shatters the previous record set all the way back in 2016 and amounts to roughly $4000000.00 spent a day but the financial sectors influence on the 2020 lections could actually be even higher because when you include the $1500000000.00 in darker 1050000000 dollars in dark money that was poured into the 2020 federal elections from sources on gnome's. we don't even know how much wall street is spent and

apparently wall street's brand of political bribery knew the end of the trump era was near as common dreams reports that quote the majority of the campaign contributions from wall street went to democratic candidates with democrats taking 53 percent of the donations more than 74000000 alone was given to joe biden's campaign make no mistake it's not the american people in charge of washington d.c. it's the will of wall street and those with well means and that is why we are always watching this. on a cd the street you want to. see see the crisis. state see. grace see this least systemic deception is to late show which. brings up the old.

just gave there are perspective to double come the next presidential election even in the midterms we're going to see a lot of that type of movement so these corporations aren't backing down and wall street isn't either no they're not you know who agrees with you actually as lisa doner of the executive director of the americans for financial reform she stated that year in and year out this torrent of money gives wall street an outsized role in how we are governed while driving and protecting policies that help the industry superwealthy of mass even greater fortunes at the expense of the rest of the rest of us year in and year out we know the story i said it's an old story we know that song and dance when you're talking about 2900000000 and like you said it's getting higher that's scary plus you can break down where some of that money went to and it wasn't like i mentioned as democrats got the bulk of it wall street predicted the trump was on his way out so let's head to about a bunch of money into joe and the democrats interestingly the individuals in this entities associated with the financial sector reported making about 4 you know 4000004900000 in contributions to the 8 republican senators and 38000000 to the

139 house members who voted to overturn the election so they even got in on that again was saying hey why not let's give money to them too it's incredible when you really start breaking all of this down and i want to jump down so you can see the top 5 wall street political contributors were bloomberg number one at 157000000 national association of realtors got a real estate inside that that was 154000000 far l.l.c. which is tom styer that was 70000000 citadel 69 and the ever wonderful blackstone group 49000000 all handed out to politicians. i mean you're a member of the supreme court case corporations are people too at the end of the day the fight to get money out of politics is honestly a fight that neither democrats or republicans want to win because the. funnels there campaigns that funnels the the system of government that we have where these

corporations are essentially not only lobbying for themselves and their causes but they're holding they're holding a lot over the heads of these elected officials and it makes me wonder which are the 8 that were actually you know lobbied in terms of the crazy caucus who assumed that this election was going to be overturned in 2020 but those people still have a very strong voice and we're seeing when you live across the country so i can't necessarily say the investment there was wrong either. that's a great point you know it really makes me sad when i hear that as i think about there are so many people in this country who either don't have the means or the wrong skin color come from the wrong background who don't have that kind of power that money has when you mention that citizens united decision was given you know corporations essentially political rights in this country it's sad that we live in a world where corporations to me at least seem like they have more rights than most individuals living in the united states today oh it doesn't seem that way they do. former republican party leaders are putting on quite a show in their post political lives former speaker of the house john boehner is

making a full 180 and calling out the kooks in the crazies in his own party how their belief systems made it difficult to move any bipartisan legislation forward in the hurdles they posed today due to their white supremacy racism any penchant for conspiracy theories the news you couldn't pay him to call these folks out while he actually was in a position of power to do it instead he allowed their beliefs their toxicity and their isolationist ideology to move forward needless to say boehner has also a large back to installing progress on landmark health care reform gay marriage rights gun reforms he would like us to forget while he pursues the number one slot on the new york times best seller list. and in that same vein former president george w. bush wants us to reinvigorate his leadership as well and his retirement bush is doing a lot more than painting he's lobbying for bipartisan immigration reform this comes on the heels of calls for current u.s.

president joe biden to do more about the surge at the us mexico border in his recent change of course on the air refugee camp in an op ed for the washington post bush advocated for a pathway to citizenship for immigrants in the deferred action for childhood arrivals daca program bush still opposes a pathway to citizenship for the estimated $11000000.00 undocumented immigrants are going their citizenship should be and must be earned he list work required and service requirements as well as proof of english language proficiency as prerequisites bush is no stranger to immigration reform policy it was a key factor in his own reelection campaign but he was unable to pass any substantive reforms because he couldn't get it through his own party. perhaps the most welcome part of bush's most recent engagement in immigration reform conversation is shown in the following statement. i hope i can help set a tone that is more respectful about the immigrant which may lead to one of the system. will we will see a fellow republicans are willing to see the humanity of immigrants and change their

hateful rhetoric if current makeup of congress tells us anything bush's hopes are misplaced. man i couldn't agree more with less labor because let's be real right now too many people run in with. stoke fear and hate and they like it when we when we play in stereotypes we like it when we hate each other because that's what gets some reelected every year to get some you know us mad at each other rather than looking at their record no you're absolutely right i think that you know inherent in his belief about changing the tone and rhetoric is a well all misunderstanding or just a just a willful ignorance as it relates to the tradition of the current republican party won it which has used anti immigrant sentiment not only to fundraise but also to increase their residence at the polls and to you know branch off into this level of crazy saying that immigrants are the reason why our economy isn't stumbling immigrants are the reason why housing prices are up immigrants are the reasons why you know individuals keep on the jobs that they want to buy the middle class is

shrinking there's been such a push against immigrants in this country that i think that you know it becomes a very difficult conversation to even bring people to the poll republicans to oppose when you talk about immigration reform because they've made immigrants this dirty word they've made immigrants criminals they've made immigrants stealing from america and american culture and that becomes a very hard thing to overcome when that's the narrative that they've been pushing for a while now even while bush was in office himself that's true because he mentioned he put together a comprehensive immigration reform plan that ultimately failed his own party didn't even back when he had control and got enough people to actually believe the lie about the iraq war but couldn't get couldn't convince people to like change immigration that's something interested me what actually went. his plan originally was running good points about it like that could actually help people or no so his plan sounds similar to what we've heard from both democratic and conservative democratic and republican administrations when it comes to immigration reform which i would argue a lot of that is missing the point of immigration reform he boasted border security

he saw that as you know as an issue temporary work visas and the strangest part of his plan was that there was a large focus on assimilation an idea that yes we should be welcoming to immigrants they should go through the path toward citizenship was a little murky on how they get there but there was a full fledged understanding or at least on his part he wanted there to be assimilation type. assimilation type framework which. america is built on the foundation of immigrants and many of those immigrants brought their own languages their own traditions their own food their own culture so the idea that you would eradicate all of that it's interesting to see that that was actually at one point a part of his policy agenda because i mean when you mention the right of the head to what that america is built on the diversity of its cultures like best it really makes this great now of course those cultures all crisscross in a reactive you've got tex mex and you've got you know you've got like all these kind of different cultures kind of overlapping each other and creating some really amazing things when they do what assimilation is not there's not like one version

of america to rule them all land and that's really really truly truly tragic but it's interesting looking at this moving forward because i don't know if he's really going to move the needle on his party anymore or boehner for that matter i mean if he made me that then we're able to move the needle on their party when they were actually in power and i don't think they're going to be able to do it now when we see you know partisanship is even stronger than it was during the era him amban or for the for the most part boehner has done a thing when 80 at this point in terms of calling out the ridiculousness of his party which existed while he was there and he had absolutely nothing to say you know actually lead being on it and we iterated a lot of that what they were saying while he was in leadership but to bush's comments the the question that i have is that it seems he has more of a problem with the rhetoric and told him that he actually has with the lack of policy moving toward an immigration reform and even in his ideology about immigration reform it focuses almost solely on dr recipients he has no real full or forceful plan of action or idea who are undocumented immigrants who don't fall

under the dock of program do you think there's other do you think that like the reason that they're suddenly getting engaged is because what bush was probably the seventy's boners probably will push an eighty's you think it's just they're fearful are going to die soon and want to leave could leave something that i like that and the legacy right now yeah yeah their record after the insurrection a lot of republicans decide at least republicans who are no longer and i. office decided they needed to change course and i think that the top administration in and of itself tainted the republican party and that these are 2 people who as of late have decided they don't want anything to do with what is seen in the republican party up today because you always see that you always see like the worst people in life are the people who made the worst decisions which looked to me george bush along with cheney and other more war criminals at the end of the day for what they did with the rock and torture and everything that they did in the middle east and the war on terror and to me it seems like better i better fight back somehow now so people can think of me i'm good in that way i can go to heaven ironically he did
