hello there i'm an election and you're watching in question broadcasting from our 2 americas national news have borders in washington d.c. here it's maze top stories 1st a milestone for relations between the u.s. and iran or perhaps a step towards returning to the j.c. the away we've got the latest on talks out of vienna plus the state of florida another step closer to business as usual after a brought a virus pandemic we'll bring you the details and finally we are 1 learning about one ethnicity actually getting vaccinated more than any other and what's behind this disparity stick around to find out all right it's time to boost your news i q .
2:01 pm
there appears to be a possible breakthrough in the iran nuclear deal as the u.s. considers releasing a rainy and funds for humanitarian purposes today world powers are holding a 4th round of high level talks in vienna austria here's artie's alex mileage with the latest developments. it's been 2 months of tough talks in vienna and while some say strides have been made in the right direction the u.s. has maintained that there is still much to be done for it to rejoin the joint comprehensive plan of action more commonly known as the iran nuclear deal here's u.s. senator chris coons talking to america's gulf arab partners in the u.a.e. earlier this week it's not clear yet whether there is a path towards a return to the j.c. k.o.a. complaints or complaints that's actively being discussed in vienna in terms of what
2:02 pm
sort of steps would be taken in what order what kind of sanctions relief what kind of unfrozen assets might might happen now is the 4th round of high level negotiations begin in austria there is fresh talk from the u.s. about how we radian assets may be on frozen the biden administration is looking at releasing $1000000000.00 in the rainy and funds for the purpose of humanitarian relief instead of unfreezing cash the funds would be allocated as a part of the swiss humanitarian trade arrangement a mechanism set up last year to allow for humanitarian aid to iran's such as these vaccines from russia without violating u.s. sanctions against that country while the move is seeing opposition from iran hawks in the u.s. congress those in favor of and freezing the assets see it as a step in the right direction to get the rand deal done. thomas countryman who served as u.s. assistant secretary of state for international security and nonproliferation from 2011 to 2017 said if it demonstrates the kind of good faith record cause reciprocal
2:03 pm
good faith from the iranian side then it is potentially a good step forward iran's one of the hardest hit countries in the world when it comes to the coronavirus and the worst in the middle east it is desperately in need of help right now hopes are that by giving iran some of what it needs iran will agree to take steps to rein in its nuclear program which is the crux of the 2015 iran nuclear deal that was abandoned by the trumpet ministration in 2018 although some say that the negotiations could end without a deal there is optimism that the latest round of talks which began today in vienna have the potential to be fruitful participants are continuing that with discussions which are held on various levels and which happened as objective of the fool that i'm expected and given taishan of the deal by old size and new u.s. return today she's feeling russia's lead negotiator for the vienna talks seems to have confidence in the process he tweeted this yesterday the next who knows maybe
2:04 pm
final round of vienna talks on restoration of full implementation of the j c p o a will start on may 7th of course if the need arises the negotiators may decide to make a new break to seek further instructions from the capitals and according to reports a senior u.s. state department official said we think that it's doable because it's not rocket science it's not inventing a new deal many hope to have the nuclear agreement completed before the june 18th elections in iran were hardline candidates have been campaigning against the renewal of the deal for r.t. i'm alex my love each. and here to discuss former u.k. employment george galloway and former pentagon official mike maloof. george i will start over with you on the russian delegate today tweeted this he said quote the joint commission j c p away at its meeting today opened
2:05 pm
a new round of talks on full restoration of the nuclear deal the participants agreed on the need to intensify the process the delegations seem to be ready to stay in vienna as long as necessary to achieve the goal now george it appears they are still using intermediaries but this is a positive note is that it is and i think the signal from the russian side the good music if you like seems to suggest it's not going to break down there's not going to be walkouts is obviously positive. the unfreezing of it in a search talk obviously helps to warm up that room although it is one of making the point these are iranian funds that should never have been frozen in the 1st place they're not going to be released as cash which is what they were when they were
2:06 pm
frozen but through some convoluted swiss jonell but nonetheless i don't want to be churlish. optimistic the the biden administration has no invested so much in restoring this to school on the nuclear deal with their on the they will in the end make the concessions necessary to get this over the line well mike what about that iran's negotiator abbas iraq she told state t.v. that it appears the u.s. is ready to lift many sanctions but that tehran is still demanding more he's taking a very strong posture on this so is tehran bluffing. no i don't think to iran is bluffing at all and i don't share george's optimism that they're going to come to some conclusion prior to the juda elections for the. iranian presidency
2:07 pm
which almost guarantees and promises to be a hard liner and just last weekend i saw efforts by the i r g c to try and scuttle those those those initiatives by. putting out word that there's going to be a prisoner exchange and $7000000000.00 is going to be. paid to the iranian government that just. was denied by both sides so there's there's active internal efforts in inside of iran not for this to to happen and it does not meet the initial criteria that iran had and that was to lift all sanctions before they do anything else secondly iranians are not going to do away which is what a requirement by the u.s. to do away with the greatest centrifuges that they have built there at the i r 9 level which gives them 60 percent. enrichment they're not going to scuttle
2:08 pm
those or throw them away which is what the u.s. side is i mean there's too many obstacles within a month before those elections to overcome and i just don't see it at this point well george on mike snow there an american state department official briefed reporters they remain anonymous as per apparently state department rules they briefed reporters saying things like we think it's doable it's not rocket science it's not a new deal he emphasized that it's simply returning to the old one he called tehran's demands unreligious stick but tehran says the u.s. like george said are seriously that mike said that tehran destroy those centrifuges that they have whereas the old deal only asked that those centrifuges be disabled and then stored under i.a.e.a. supervision could that then be the deal breaker. i don't think so i think the
2:09 pm
u.s. will have to concede on the point because mike's absolutely correct the iranians are not going to destroy things that didn't have to be destroyed in the original deal before the us walked out of it but there's no material difference in destroying them are putting them under i.a.e.a. control so i can't believe that that would be the u.s. bottom line simply wouldn't be understood in the international community look i think the glass is half full might thinks it's half empty that that means we agree about exactly how much liquid is in the glass and i believe that the eminence of a hard line victory in the iranian president say means that the u.s. would be foolish not to get this over the line over the next 7 days or so otherwise they're going to have to deal with a far far tougher in reining in government after of the presidential election
2:10 pm
because nobody seriously believes that the hard line candidates are not going to win and mike then the state department has really been tight lipped on on exactly what those sanctions lifted will be what sort of strategy do you think the state department is taking here and how much of this is contingent on guidance from the d.m.v. . well the d.o.d.'s going to be in gauged in this but i think that there are some considerations that they they would love to have ali have everything back to the way it was and also include all the missiles and what have you which the original j scipio way did not include. iran has advanced considerably since the initial j c p oh it was signed back in 2015 but one other consideration by the iranians they know that they're watching israel and netanyahu is trying to form
2:11 pm
a government he's desperate he's desperate and he's already threatened to bomb then tets that math chance which is the iranian facility a nuclear facility and between now and june anything could happen and netanyahu has basically threatened and the and a week ago there was a and it is in this really a team visiting the state department saying that we get you just can't go ahead with this thing so they're sending warnings to the biden ministration look out if you have if you have come to some arrangement and some agreements we may take unilateral action so i think that there is some. internally i know the j c p a c o a is is is a nice thing to have but it could bring on a lot more grievance in the in the future in the near future for iran now georgia the united states' policy yeah george speaking of israel the ayatollah overnight made some pretty strongly worded statements about israel he called israel not
2:12 pm
a state a terrorist base so if things go according to how mike framed at how does all that come into play when you bring in israel. well if israel were to attack iran obviously all bit would be off and returning to the j. c.p.u. oil would be the least of our worries because we'd be discussing a fool blown war or a conflagration i cannot believe the us government would permit that i don't think that joe biden is us close to netanyahu as previous presidents have been unfrocked i'm certain that he's not netanyahu went out of his way to humiliate joe biden when he was the vice president i don't believe the us would permit that to happen and i don't believe it could happen without us permission so again i'm still
2:13 pm
looking are glossing that still have my final thoughts on this. yeah i think george is an ultimate diplomat but i must say but he is our our hell not of the united states but what what's there. but the ministration does not have. the minute ministration does not have control over netanyahu he feels emboldened and i think he would take action if he thought it was quote in net in israel's national interests he could declare by the way in this interim period as a national emergency inside of israel and continue to rule indefinitely in order to engage iran and he has made it clear under no circumstances would iran that capability so i think it's going to be a very dangerous time between now and june always
2:14 pm
a dangerous time mike in that area of the world mike maloof george galloway thank you both for weighing in. thank you. all right still ahead we'll get the latest on the coronavirus right here in the u.s. florida taking steps to transition back to normal i'll tell you what they're doing then later the sports h.q. we're going to hammer takes us to a thriller of a match up in the quarterfinals of the madrid open remember to keep up with all the latest news or catch up with anything you might have missed download the portable t.v. apps you can watch us whenever you want we'll be right back. to . take a live music anywhere you go plus a delegate lead curated online video library with a built in search engine. right in your pocket to treat you interactive just our 3 judges dollars will join us to see thousands of episodes to explore videos

screen speak in last every day because the fake news narrative steady state. to maybe cool somewhat relieved to know chris is good tom f. the plumber brick by brick cooled listen make it my own house plenty off that in the store but i found a network that old question. made questions birth new questions numbers as stars and lists as the sea and bring all the insight distance death and. if drive all that remains in question. over to the latest coven 800 numbers now worldwide those cases topping 156000000
2:17 pm
with more than 3000000 reported deaths the u.s. is still leading the way with the most confirmed cases just over 32 and a half 1000000 here followed by india and then brazil here stateside the death toll now at about 580000. and brawls in the airport unruly passengers and chaos on the streets all part of the pandemic frustration boiling over nationwide as some states try to get back to some sense of normalcy but in florida the governor has suspended statewide coded 1000 regulations and it may have unintended consequences for at least one major industry argues john how he has more. in fort lauderdale florida and 2 masters recently burned their coven 1000 facemasks in defiance of local laws requiring people to wear them but earlier this week florida governor rhonda santos signed a bill suspending all state wide mask regulations along with other covert 1900
2:18 pm
guidelines saying he didn't think people should be policed anymore during the ongoing pandemic and that includes banning businesses from requiring so-called vaccine passports or proof that people have been fully vaccinated but the governor's order could end up backfiring at least when it comes to one major industry in florida the cruise line industry the centers for disease control and prevention are cities see gave the green light for cruises to set sail once again this summer when certain conditions among them that 98 percent of the crew must be fully vaccinated along with 95 percent of the passengers the head of norwegian cruise line says if florida will not allow the vaccine verifications the norwegians cruise ships may have to set sail from ports in other states and florida could end up losing millions of dollars or more if other cruise lines follow suit in the meantime the centers for disease control and prevention or c.d.c. set conditions for simulated voyages or test cruises to see if the vaccine passport
2:19 pm
plan will ultimately work whether the cruise ships once again depart from the port of miami or somewhere else for r.t. john hardy. very joining us to discuss is captain dennis tahj air captain tater good to see you obviously we just heard this report it was focused on the cruise ship industry but in terms of air travel what do you make of this plan to introduce vaccine passports for all travel how do you think that will affect your industry air travel. it well there are lots of ideas out there the main thing is to get travel back where people feel it's completely safe and boy were so much further along than we were in the deepest darkest truck of this pandemic so you know we're going to leave it to the elected officials to find the right path but what we do know is on an airplane it's safe to fly the mast mandate which continues
2:20 pm
has been extended it's a federal mandate i'm out there flying the airports are half i mean some days even more than i've seen dri coated that is i've walked through airports that are nearly empty flying 2 or 3 people around so that is great to see our passengers have the confidence we're seeing you know want to have close and sometimes nearly 2000000 people go through t.s.a. so we're getting on the other side of this and sure there's going to be a lot of emotion about it but you know when it comes to flying at 35000 feet at near the speed of sound we've got one bipartisan who have one opinion that's to keep you safe and everything else is is secondary now all of these restrictions and obviously the pandemic took a toll on the mental health of a lot of passengers people in general have kind of just become more irritable they're all stressed out how does your industry plan to deal with some of these unruly passenger is at the airport or worse when the plane is in the air we've seen
2:21 pm
a lot of home videos of of travelers getting in fistfights midair. that's a great point and there's a lot of attention on it rightfully so but the f.a.a. is very serious about this they just released a swath of fines for some passengers that were just comply they were actually violent against my crew members so that it's a serious thing but i want everybody to understand that they had 13000 reports of desire to not wear a mask while in flight noncompliance and you know every day we're doing you know close to 2000000 people per day so the number is very low i have not had one incident on any of the flights. people get it and to relieve that stress to say hey we can get back at this this is just one last thing we don't want to spike the football at the 10 yard line you know pick your metaphor the bottom line is we're almost there and you know these cruise ships they want to do
2:22 pm
a business and if they're doing a business people want to get on and they've got to fly on my airplane and so we're going to do all that we can to make sure they have confidence and can do that safely will get through this it's stressful i know i've been out there but you know we're strong now summer is obviously just around the corner you already said that you're starting stay flights being packed again people are traveling by plane again how do you think the personnel in the travel industry the pilots your crew the flight attendants etc can help ease the tension especially of families that are going back to traveling especially those with little ones how do you keep the math on on small children and we've also seen reports of families getting kicked off lights because because little kids won't keep their mask on. and i hear that i'm smiling because seeing families travel tells me that when people bring their families with they believe they're going to they're safe so yeah we've had those incidents but i can report in millions of incidents were nothing fall happened and
2:23 pm
people went to visit grandparents and friends and family or just just went to the beach i mean the simplest things in life so yeah this is such an extraordinary human event and we can be the bridge to ensuring that happens so we're going to focus on a positive answer those who believe they have to make a statement in the airplane. you know do that outside the airplane we respect that but yeah don't do it in your port it sounds like just do your best to keep the mask on everybody and let's just try to get america back to normal is what the message sounds like we got to leave it there captain devastator of allied pilots association representing a thank you so much. thank you. all right now over to new york city where the number of asian americans getting vaccinated is outpacing other ethnicity is what's behind that move are to correspondent trinity chavez has the answer. well nearly half of new york city's adults have not even started their vaccine regimens yet one group is getting their shots at nearly
2:24 pm
double the rate asian americans have become the city's most vaccinated demographic group despite language barriers and fear of unprovoked violence against the minority according to city data 58 percent of the city's adult asian population which is over $711000.00 people have received at least one dose with more than 504000 fully vaccinated compared to the 41 percent of white new york adults who have received one dose of the vaccine black and latino as though remain behind only about 25 percent of blacks and 29 percent of latinos have received at least one dose experts say asian american cultures are more concerned with protecting their elders and community members making them automatically more willing and eager to get vaccinated still though daily vaccinations are falling in new york city and across the country it's a global pandemic it's a new york virus it's an american virus and it's something that we should all as a people should be united to fight. on monday 1200000 covert vaccinations were
2:25 pm
given in the u.s. the 7 day rolling average of daily vaccinations fell to 2300000 a 32 percent drop from 3400000 shots a day just 3 weeks ago in new york city for example more than 115000 were given in a single day on april 8th on thursday that figure was 4 full lower with just 28100 $93.00 shots given in the 24 hour period and in an effort to boost vaccinations and spur tourism new york city is in talks to offer free that seems to visitors we want to go the extra mile make it easy for tourists if they're here get vaccinated while you're here it makes sense to put mobile vaccination sites where the tourists are and that is good for all of us that they go it's good for them it's another reason to be here and know you going to be taken care of mayor bill de blasio went on to say that the. could open a soon as this weekend but that the city is still waiting on approval from the
2:26 pm
state and if and when they get the green light de blasio says the city will start rolling out the j.n.j. vaccine for those tourists who choose to get the shot reporting in new york trinity chavez are 2. right let's head over now to regina ham at the sports h.q. with one of the more thrilling matches over at the madrid open we've had quite a few but this one i think might take the cake because they took the world number 4 down the team well he did have a tough quarter final battle ahead of him at the madrid open american john i there well he's known as one of the best servers in the game and that was showcased center stage in the one hour and 55 minute match so said number one we go right and team with the serve is there with a return to back inflation not sure what is or doesn't earn it but the next one's a drop shot to hand in the point and feet actually win the 1st set 642nd base here hits the 2nd set we go to game dejan team with the advantage is there rushing up to the net just kind of shifted over team at the back and shot down the line to take that gave even that number to 63 so that is your 3rd set reason for the return and
2:27 pm
with the drop shot team running i did and they're all right back you fours and all the way back to game point we had a match point is there at the chip team finishes this one off of the 4 and mash to end the game with the city finals winning 366364 fifths of our group of their lives i mean i kind of piggyback off of the cool thing that new york city might be doing and that some sports leagues are doing as well if you're a sports fan they might be giving you you know hey $10.00 off a ticket if you're vaccinated so a lot of sports teams the united states are kind of doing these interesting things to get people to get their vaccine which is now known as being like who would want to chance to win tickets like the super bowl will wow vaccinated why as some incentive for sure that is a green is a better than krispy kreme i'd have to say i'm curious to see what that would look like i mean you've got to follow up on that let me know if people turn out just to get free ticket if i will be all right thanks for that review. that doesn't for us right now make sure you keep up with everything in question at all times by downloading the portable t.v.
