information we have now at least 11 people including children have been killed 32 others injured in a mass shooting at a school in because. ok let's go more on this story now from our correspondent daniel hawkins who joins me. this story 1st broke say a couple of hours ago in it initially reports of no fatalities and this is escalated really quickly now it's clear this is a tragedy and as i understand from information come in it's not even finished yet you're still an ongoing situation it began as you say a couple of hours ago around 10 am on moscow time when the 1st reports thawed coming in. city in the republican party i thought and rushed around 800 kilometers from moscow it's the capital of that region in school gymnasium number 175 initial reports said there were 2 shooters 2 people that entered the building with weapons reports also came in over

a large explosion of some sort on one of the floors though all of this hasn't been confirmed of course officially by security service this is all going from oil witness accounts reports on calls to emergency services. and casualties of unfortunately been rising throughout the day initially as we said. there were reports of no fatalities that later rose to $6.00 to $8.00 we understand now according to sources in the region there are around 30 casualties most of those injuries of course but we understand there are between 10 and 12 fatalities as well and some of those are children tragically perhaps of course we've seen footage of children jumping from the top floors of the school and absolutely i just want to say i believe at some point we will be showing these pictures of children. just to get out away from this is absolutely rhetoric seen were jumping from windows to the ground we may well be showing these images want to warn our viewers you may find

these pictures very disturbing and let you know in advance please be aware that we are intending to show these pictures a some point of children leaping hopefully to safety. you know it just shows some of the desperation really experienced the horror in that school when the shooting took place where less than the shooter or one of them at least entered the school on the ground floor targeted security guards staff and cleaners according to reports unconfirmed as yet of course before targeting other students now we're less than and. when it's not out of those 2 attackers one of them has been detained has been captured the other one we understand is still inside the school and as of a few minutes ago there could still be pupils in the school being held hostage that's what we know. and this is why i said that this situation which is escalating quickly and realistically the numbers and it's horrible to say this they could be worse given that the or thirty's haven't been able to secure this building if that

is true that there is still one assailant still in there there's no way possible you know how bad the numbers are going to get that at this point. it's not something we that people in russia are used to hearing too much about i don't think school shootings associated often were other countries for example you know america not something that happens too often in russia there have been some incidents yes sure and just going back to what you said a 2nd ago with the security services are at the scene as we speak more than 20 minutes has been set there special forces surrounded the school as the hour goes on we are getting more footage more images coming from the school and surrounding areas i believe we can bring our viewers some footage now about what has been going on at the scene let's just go i think.

as you rightly said these sorts of scenes are usually highly unusual in russia you would normally associate mass shootings with other countries the last time such a tragedy took place in russia in recent memory with 2018 shooting in crimea an 18 year old student brothers laugh ross lakoff shot and killed around 20 students and teachers and wounded 60 others before committing suicide and that was the worst such attack in russia go back to 2004 and of the beslan tragedy which of course remains. in memory for people cry. the country there and you know it was truly a shocking shocking terrible event. in that shooting we understand the that the

shooter had these far on legally in this case we understand the shooter also had this shotgun legally we understand he purchased 250 rounds at a gun shop to complement his is far and we also understand again unconfirmed reports of course that the captured shoes are from the school house and for the security services he has a bomb or some sort of explosive device at his range that address so no doubt security services will be checking bear as well that of any explosives there this is still very much an ongoing situation meal those casualty figures could well rise throughout the day and fortunately we'll try to get somewhat witness accounts for thousands of obviously some more official confirmation as it comes in and just just to comment on some of the pictures that we've been showing because last hour we showed that picture that we just sort of a moment ago of somebody lying on the ground and people gathered around the 1st instinct i thought that perhaps maybe that was a victim having subsequently seen this being circulated in news reports and social

media peers that actually may have been one of the assailants and then we also saw what seemed to be parents rushing to obviously understandably to the school concerned about their children rushing in only then to be seen confronted by the arrest of one of the sense which just shows how very very quickly this all unfolds that the news gets out largely thanks to social media these days stories get out a lot lot of it untrue the information out there but that the story gets out that there is some kind of incident going on the school concerned parents rush in only to find out this thing is still going on and they're rushing into what is a perilous situation absolutely it's a it's a very rapidly developing situation since it took place 2 hours ago and as you said . of course parents understandably highly concerned for their children wanting to get more information we do have information coming from multiple sources including some just now coming in from the press service of our stance president who arrived

at the scene around 40 minutes or so ago according to the press service from there the situation in the school has now been dealt with this is duration as we said this is information from the service of the president that means why the 2nd attacker has been arrested or killed by security services we just don't know at this stage we do understand from that others say the security the situation in the school has now been stabilized on the final figure for now at least is 7 children and why.
