a russian city called. were authorities with the national anti-terrorism agency say the shooter has now been apprehended the area is in lockdown motive is still unknown expect to get a lot more information on the story and we're going to be following it for you throughout this newscast throughout the day but there's another tragedy that's taking place in another part of the world and this one is. this was not a surprise because it's been occurring off and on now for almost 70 years and that's about how long this conflict between the israelis and the palestinians has been going on in fact overnight it's really heated up violence shelling aerial attacks have been occurring we've we've been monitoring these pictures furnished by the associated press and they show the constant. flak the antiaircraft of the shooting this is in the area of gaza and jerusalem by the way

where some of these incidents of taken place in fact i want to share with you some headlines this is from haaretz right it's one of israel's leading newspapers there report that israeli defense forces have assassinated the chief of islamic jihad's special rocket unit here's another headline from the rats $28.00 palestinians in gaza 10 children reported to have been killed during the attack and expect those numbers to change throughout the course of the day israel has also killed 3 top israeli job militants according to the government and dozens of israelis have also been wounded from shelling coming in from the palestinian border so. what is the genesis of all of this it's a bitter dispute over settlements as israelis move into neighborhoods and inadequate they call. palestinians argue they're not evictions they're simply

forced displacements so are palestinians being effective as part of a routine real estate conflict or are they being forced off their own land as an illegal displacement this is what we are going to be debating right here on the news rick sanchez let's get at it when we believe it's time to do news again. all right here's the question as we think we'll come to mind as you watch this newscast is it displacement or evictions which is occurring to palestinians why are all stray france and japan conducting joint military exercises and why why is a pulitzer prize winning journalist warning americans about president by. we begin

tonight with a bloody conflict in gaza the images coming in which seem to show the continual back and forth between 2 peoples who've been not able to find a compromise now for more than 60 years but the latest source of friction is all about something called settlements we've got some live pictures we can show you this is what it looks like right now over gaza and we've been monitoring these for oh the better part of the last couple of hours and from time to time you know we've seen the flak right the anti-aircraft gunfire going into the sky it really illuminates the sky as the palestinian defenses try and combat against the israeli warships that have been hitting this area it's continued for quite some time john hardy interesting lee enough our own john how did he work for years of that war correspondent he was based in jerusalem and he is reporting today on the latest overnight fighting between the palestinians and israelis. 2 israelis have

been killed and at least $26.00 palestinians including reportedly 9 children in gaza as the cross border fighting intensifies in what has been the most intense escalation of fighting since 6 days of cross border fire in november 2019. in israel 2 women were killed when a rocket hit their apartment building in the city of ashkelon just north of the gaza strip more than 400 rockets have been fired from gaza into israel since monday as israel continues to launch air strikes on targets in gaza the i.d.f. israel defense forces says it has struck 130 quote unquote military targets in gaza according to a military spokesperson mostly belonging to hamas the i.d.f. says 90 percent of the rockets that penetrated the gaza israeli border were intercepted by israel's iron. defense system at least 122 people meanwhile have

been reportedly injured in israel since monday all this says the protests and violence also continues in east jerusalem and the old city where the clashes started about a month ago when israeli residents in a neighborhood of east jerusalem received a court order to have picked 6 palestinian families while that case plays out in court the violence only increased the past month old tamil erupting to the point we're seeing now fueled by political instability in both israel and the west bank. and the i.d.f. israel defense forces says about 90 percent by the way of the rockets fired from gaza into israel are intercepted by what's called the iron dome rocket defense system and as the fighting continues wreck israel is calling up 5000 reserve soldiers as egypt is now reportedly engage in intensive talks with israel and also hamas and islamic jihad in gaza to try the big key word try and broker a cease fire possibly something as soon as wednesday but that said israeli prime

characterize. i don't think that makes a difference what matters are the facts not the words that we use to describe them i think it's fair to say that the israelis have been aggressive in trying to clear a land for so many years what's most important at this particular moment is that this conflict is occurring right at the time when the most inclusive government it is really history was about to be formed and i have to think that extremists on both sides are doing everything they can to prevent this unity government from being formed and that's why we're seeing what we are seeing today we go what do you make of that the fact that. you know we're not going to get an argument alan suggests about what words we call it whether they're being forced off their land or they're being affected that we really need to look at is the fact that we have the potential to form a government that's actually going to be able to help the palestinians. you know player this. or this parents because you know this is this way.

makes a great deal of difference. and . words. they are so to speak. just. the pictures as you see them. great you know it's all about the words. how it. was doing so i just friends.

well. let's give a chance to chime in here allan. is it difficult at times to defend israeli's actions because they do appear certainly image wise to be extremely aggressive and let's face it. the palestinians seem like david here compared to like a lion to use a biblical phrase. well rick it's difficult to defend israel against the kind of

crazy talk that we just heard from your other guest to compare what's happened in the west bank to quote ethnic cleansing is incredibly irresponsible all the settlers together occupied less than 10 percent of the west bank he think about the actual issue incidents of ethnic cleansing that we've seen historically like armenia and i compare that to what's happening now in israel and it's almost criminal to talk about it that way and when you're talking about it with such extreme terms and then yes that words do start to matter because you're vilifying an entire people you're vilifying the people of israel which isn't the 1st time that's happened so. question that listen i agree with this or whatever israel's right to like when i was in congress i agree with president obama whenever president obama's right and that's it that's as far as i go but i think that there's a real danger in trying to turn people against an entire culture against an entire now. chanelle do you like your guess is trying to do against israel right now you

make it sound he says make 0 like the israelis are just made sure he will people like your demonizing them the way some argue they might try and demonize palestinians how do you respond to. accusation against your. will in the street and . there again is a general. gration. a person or society i actually know. he's lost the reality is. the oppressor. i am part. of the actually that's.
