a pretty consistent basis. it almost feels like you can't go single day without seeing every talking head from jake tapper to nicole wallace, wrinkling their foreheads and clutching their very high priced pearls. in fevered worry over the potential terroristic tendencies of all the unwashed masses living outside the halls of power in new york city, beverly hills, and capitol hill. but thankfully, the by did ministration is coming to their rescue. this week, the administration unveiled at 32 page national strategy to combat domestic extremism that the new york times reports quote, outlines for priorities, improving information sharing among law enforcement agencies, preventing recruitment by extremis groups investigating such groups and confronting the long standing drivers of domestic terrorism. racism and of course, bigotry strategy also calls for aggression aggressive steps such as hiring more

totalitarian regime throughout history. and that my friends is the essence of the very, very, very thin line between security and despotism, safety and total tarion ism and is why we must always be watching the hawks. if you want to know what's going on a city and you want to rush, show you what we always, the roy, throw, strike, math grade, walk the place. they make exceptions. if you leave so much this weapon. so we know you're welcome, watching the hawks, i am to robin for and i'm a nice across. so a major, this is interesting because this week we saw the justice department, we saw the by the ministration step forward. and, you know, with a general strategy, 32 pages saying ok, here's how we're going to combat domestic extremism and obviously, domestic terrorism. i understand why after what we saw happen on january 6th. but i

just, there's something inside me as a child who lived through 911 in the war on terror and the aftermath of the patriot act, that it just gets me a little nervous when they start on those terrorism words around. because the government's not exactly had a good record on this front, it hasn't in domestic terrorism has always been something that the federal government hasn't taken seriously as it should. domestic terrorism typically is not given the same weight or the same. the same attention as international terrorism, and part of it is because america likes to act as though homecare with them isn't a thing particularly because the faces of it are often white mailed. but in addition to that, when we've seen it used and we seen the investigations into groups that may say things online that are more antagonistic towards the government or certain things that our government does, the group that tend to get the greatest eyes or groups of civil rights, groups of advocacy trying to fight against a lot of the a lot of the negative things we've happened. we've seen happen to l. g

b team members and black people to latino members of society. they're never grouped like the one we saw, the one, the cap. that's very true, that virtue, when you look at us history, it's always over there going after the black panthers. they're going after this and very rarely are they going after like say the k, k, k are groups that are actually really out there causing violence in the streets. the administration's essentially funneling about $100000000.00 to the justice department to hire prosecutor's investigative, is more of investigators, more analysts. and you know, again, it's a thing where it's after living through all of the failures of the war on terror and the disgusting things that we did with it. and we justified with it from putting people into black sites around the world and things like that. it, it frightens me that washington when they make decisions out of fear rather than common sense that you could see something similar being turned against people who, being turning into groups like the black panthers and things like that rather than the groups that actually we should be taking a look at a starkly speaking,

we've just seen that recycled over and over and over for again the war on terror. it started out early beyond that it was also just a war on people have been long faith that what it was designed, it was to attack movement. and i think that we saw that, you know, pushed to the highest extent where they were demonized in, throughout society. and i think that, you know, the world, tara helped project that, and i fear that that could be the outcome of business. well, yeah, because look at the end of the day, we do have our freedom to, to criticize the government. we do have our free speech and we can't sacrifice those freedoms in the, in the, for the sake of security, even in events like january, 6 or $911.00 or things like that. you have to maintain those basic freedoms. because in my mind, if you lose those basic freedoms, and if you become that security state, or that, or that, you know, dest spot state that says, okay, no one in society can speak out against the government. because you know where that frightened and no one can do that. well then what good is your society at the end of the day here, right? but we do have to start cracking down very heavily on white supremacist fair. but

yes we, that's really oh, yeah, no, couldn't agree more enough from following record voter turnout in the 2020 presidential election republican fast track bills across several states to effectively reduce the voter participation among communities of color. republican lead state legislature in georgia. i was florida, arizona, texas, and pennsylvania past sweeping bills of ending voting rights and particularly targeting the poor minority community with razor thin margins in the house and the senate, the mid term just a year away. and the filibuster firmly in place. it's up to the bio ministration and moreover congress to act. now, after all, what is democracy? if voting rights don't exist for citizens, while republicans and their democratic proxies. senators joe mentioned in kristin cinema tirelessly work to maintain jim crow and white supremacy at all costs. civil rights advocates are backing down. notably black voters matter fund co founders
8:38 am
latasha brown and cliff albright boarded a bus to kick off their voting rights tor across the american south. the black voters matter, tor is an effort to fight voter restrictions. pressure legislators, increase voter registration drive and competitive face where congress is repeatedly dropping the ball on voting rights. the department of justice might be providing a needed assist. attorney general merit garland laid out the d o. j plan to protect voting rights and announce the department civil rights division is beeping up staffing to support enforcement efforts. he'll tell us more about the future of voting rights and what state is attorney and political strategist, chris bruce, good secret. great to be here. mr. thank you. well, chris, the john lewis voting rights act and board of people act. they faced in increasingly appeal battling congress. these 2 pivotal bills level set voting rights and protection. the republicans don't support either of them. democrats, kristen cinema and joe mansion are playing for team jim crow as well with time
8:39 am
running out what are advocates doing and how do you see the voting rights more shaping up? well, let's start where you left off their centers. and imagine are pretty much the best republican that you have right now because they are stopping these kinds of issues that are happening all across america. advocates were on the ground. african americans, especially black owners matter, or taking this to the st. informing people in their stakes and putting the pressures on other senators as well as president joe biden, say enough is enough. you have others like to have rooms and other notable names. but let's not forget about the african american, especially black women who have been doing this for 2020 election to make sure that you have record turn out in the state. so the pressure is going to continuously billed and billed until something else happens. and it's all democrats actually do something pass will find out who's going to be in power. in 2022. i look,
8:40 am
let's be real. to me, the republic democracy, that is what is on the line here. so when we see the b o. j jumping in, i think it's about time that they do attorney general merrick garland is essentially doubling down on the voting rights act and other laws. and what seems to set the stage for a battle in the court. i want to ask you how beneficial is the department of justice putting its weight behind voting rights efforts. after all, 14 states including swing states like arizona, florida, georgia. i've already fast tracked voters suppression laws, right? we all know the game plan here. we know exactly what republicans are doing. we're trying to take away americans rights. so department justice in that a timely crucial structure where we actually mean i'm sort of help. my thing is, what was impression is not something new. it's been around since white people have always been around is finally tommy, the department of justice, something about it. are they going to be effective?
8:41 am
we'll see what the court can actually do with all of those republic and conservative appointee. judges that i'm actually happy, but i'm not shying away from the point of saying, i'm glad that attorney general guardian is actually being something about it. just so much more that needs to be done, especially in the and chris center mentioned famously said he supports the john lewis the voting rights act, but not the for the people. why don't the making the distinction between the 2, especially since john lewis literally wrote over 80 percent of the for the people x . and what do you think the future of these bill holds? sen, mansion even doing what republicans have been doing, stalling is coming up with any and every excuse possible to make sure that these measures which protect the right for americans to vote to actually stop it altogether. so the only thing i want to hear out of 7 matches now is that he will actually vote for something and having that well being called to the senate for
8:42 am
otherwise it's just talk and democrats and talk to publicans enough. they are in power, they should pass bills to protect the american people. that's why they were, since all, it's interesting. imagine that name keeps coming up because georgia ground 0 and, and chris your on the ground there. we know, stacy abrams has been chipping away at turning georgia blue and fighting voters. suppression up efforts there for decades. amanda and jose like name is all tied up and this, and he actually has a new voting rights proposal that even stacy abram supports, which is wild. can you explain the proposal and you think it'll get traction? well, let's go and look at what exactly needs to happen. we need to make sure that americans have the early next day. me go back and don't get with this misinformation out here that they actually expand the voting because they have it when it comes down to it . they see a rooms is bringing together a very strange polish and bedfellows and actually trying to get something past. she
8:43 am
will get the credit for this. you can actually imagine is getting calls every day, tens of thousands of all saying you need to get this done. you don't get to done. there will be essence for this proposal is not enough, even if it is for it, you've seen this as a nothing with the ultimate conclusion. match is on record of saying what i need to be able to watch a lot or fun. but let's not take this lightly. it is not enough, especially as georgia order. now the most definitely most definitely our attorney and political strategist, chris bruce, thank you for joining us today. always a pleasure having you on educating our viewers. thank you. alright, as we go to break, remember, you can start watching the hawks on your cell phones on your smartphones, on your tv, at home,

one of the worst ever mass shootings in america was in las vegas in 2017. the tragedy a close a little of the real left. vega where many say elected officials are controlled by christina learners. the dangerous shooting revealed what the l v m p. d really is and now it's part of the stem machine to the american public barely remembers that it happens. that just shows you the power of money in las vegas. the powerful showed that true colors when the pen demik had the most contagious contagion that we've seen in decades. and then you have a mayor who doesn't care. so here's caroline goodman, offering the lives of the vegas residence. to be the control group to the shiny facades conceal a deep indifference to the people vice gonna say that they will take an action. absolutely keep the registering and keep the slot machines doing. this is a money machine is a huge cash register that is ran by people who don't care about people's lives

the me this past weekend marked one of the bloodiest gun violence across 6 states brought 272 shootings and counting. while american politicians observed a moment of silence for the 5th anniversary at the post nightclub massacre, they did so with the backdrop of war carnage. according to the gun violence archive, the total number of mass shootings is up 40 percent from this time in 2020, and 65 percent. since 2019 america has a gun violence problem. gun violence is a public health issue. yet we still fail to see elected officials clear down on gun access, reduced gun related crimes, or even get common sense. gun reforms passed whether they're going violence is occurring in urban centers, the rule south or fly over country. one thing
8:48 am
a certain, the violence isn't stopping when will america reach its breaking point? and on the education front, american youth keep bowling and competitiveness. but instead of focusing on math, english, writing, or science, republicans are leading the bite in teaching on racism or other topics being controversial. in fact, arizona teachers could face a $5000.00 penalty if they dare discuss things like the tulsa rates and massacre. june team. police shootings of unarmed blacks, or anything that makes white people feel uncomfortable. according to state republicans, arizona, senate bill 1532 was designed to ensure students aren't taught that they are race, ethnic, city, or sex determines their character. but on its face, the bill looks like many other it's been pushed by conservatives to up in critical right theory. the fact is, racism permeating american public schools isn't anything new. especially
8:49 am
considering schools are more segregated today than they were during the height of the civil rights movement. those students themselves are overwhelmingly diverse. over 80 percent of americas public school teachers, or white women. the edwin research center recently surveyed a 3rd of k through 12 instructors and found this one 3rd of us teacher support. the g o p. lead efforts to restrict discussions on racism. 23 percent. se systemic racism doesn't exist in the u. s. 16 percent say they never discuss racism at all. joining me now is professor of african american in us history at george washington university, brittany lewis. and we also have i'm so sorry. we have kerry on young managing director of chatham consulting one to get your title in there and get it right here in 1st questions for you. karen, gun violence. we talked about this before. it's an epidemic and has been generations occur for generations across america. it's pretty much as american as
8:50 am
apple pie and baseball and with rising mass shootings, do you think we'll see any movement on gun reforms and what do you think needs to be in a gun reform policy package? i really think we need to have mandatory background checks. i think that if you're not making sure that the the most vulnerable among us do not have guns. and by that i mean people who are mentally unstable. i think we're doing it a massive disservice of the entire country. i also think we need to close the gun, show loopholes and online purchasing loopholes and also limit the amount of a capacity that magazines have especially on long rifles. supposed to be a r 15 in the a k 47, and also some hand guns like the 9 millimeters. there's no need for 30 round clip or a drum that fits a 100 or 50 shot. and there's no reason for those to be on american streets or in the hands of the mentally unstable. so i really do think we need to start there. and i think it's common sense stuff like that that that will actually help cut down
8:51 am
on the amount of time balance that there is brittany, as a, as a mission noted this past weekend, march bloodshed and urban centers, rural areas, suburbs, i mean, you name it, it seems someone was getting shot at one point gun violence was ignored because you, hey, let's be honest. it was largely seen as an urban translation black community problem . but it spaces up, gun violence flashing across the news are, are, are basically white men more and more. do you think that affects the response and is the gun lobby. 4 to blame you know, i mean, we are truly great thing, a national crisis. you know, i do think i do you with the faces, right? who are work shooting, guns, i think the global pen demmet. and that may have a lot to do with it. you know, i'm going to concrete last year in 2021. it's set to be the deadly gone violence in decade then, you know, in regard to the demick, we're talking about any qualities that have been exacerbated enough across re
8:52 am
health and economic inequality. so, you know, i think these are all really important drivers that we need to consider when we're talking about them being the amount of violence that we're seeing. like you mentioned, it's really petrified because it's not just inner city or, you know, we're talking about increase in violence in suburban and rural areas. so, you know, i agree the previous guess i think it's important that we push forward with new policies that include mental health screenings and treatment background. check the licensing any because the national red flag law, which would give the judge you know, authority to order the removal of guns for a person who poses the risk to themselves or others. and i think the other part is important will professionally talk about victims of domestic violence and also the increase of debt there as well. and brittany, i'm going to stick with you on this. next one, arizona republican, they are thinking to find teachers by $1000.00, who dare to teach about racism and black, historical events of white supremacy. why are people so up in arms and threatened
8:53 am
by american students learning about the country's long standing, racial divide and white terrors? certainly speaking, show our school systems do not adequately teach about slavery. jim crow, the legacy of racism, and direct hi you, you know, the american social, economic and political system. however, i would say that over the last decade or so, and it's certainly not everywhere on, but we have to change that information has been flip rated throughout our school system and eventually made its way into the general public discourse. and, you know, of course, access to this type of information has the ability to not only change people's opinions, but their political views and affiliations as well. and i think that's why we're seeing a work here regarding the curriculum in our school, in our republicans, are free that teaching about the history of racism. we'll call many more people to potentially align with the democratic party and continue over the dismantling. but we know essentially benefit the wealthy and the white, and then the teacher going arizona, my goodness, i mean this,
8:54 am
this is quite frankly evil. you know, you want to talk about finding teacher 5 or controversial material when you're talking about a date where they rank literally 48 in the nation in terms of teacher page. you know, you're talking about people where the, the model, the business model for them literally based on the work that they do off the wall. so it's unfortunate all the way around the mission over 80 percent of american classrooms. or i will say a tragically led by white women. in a recent poll, a 3rd of k through 12 teachers support the g o p lead efforts to restrict educating students about race care. and what does that tell you? and what risks are posed when we choose to ignore the important issues of race and its history in this country? so i think this goes back to the g o p. 's continued war on facts in reality, as we've seen with their refusal to acknowledge what happened on january the 6th, you know, they, they do not want to acknowledge what the truth is about this country. and they do
8:55 am
not want the next generation of people to understand the true history of this country and be aware of it and try to make changes towards making this a better country. because there are, there are very fearful that that will lead to creating more democratic voters. i think it's as simple as that. i think you indoctrinate people with lies and you keep them stupid in the dark and hope that the vote for, you know, we're today today. we just saw this in the celebration this market moment in american history where june, 18th is now a federal holiday. but ironically, the reason why june actually exists is something that is being banned from being taught in american school. is that actually a day of celebration or what she, what should we be doing and what can we learn from miss brady? you know, i mean, i think the ultimate form of loading, i mean making sure the federal holiday was banding, the teaching of teens or a form of like critical re theory or race di launch coupled with refusing to be on the police or, you know,
8:56 am
blocking fair voting efforts and blocking recreation legislation is very clear that this is essentially a cosmetic sandy to the experiences and live the reality of black people in the country. the us really continue to refuse to do anything that will change the material conditions and the reality of african americans in the country. and you know, we call that i don't seem to really change much of anything we have. we've had m o k day. since i was born at the federal holiday and yet we've watch voting rights continue to be got it. we've been concerted efforts to undo, you know, any, any games that we've made with the george boy moving to black live matter. and a lot of the trying to put the info to commemorate and all that are pushing for a lot of the a lot of these changes to not to actually want to say thank you so much for joining us today. karen young and brittany lewis. always a pleasure having you want to educate our audience. thank you so much for coming on today. thank you. great discussion to put little truth on the,

on the read on the reality of like okay, we'll throw you, throw your bone with june. then like hopefully you just all move on and, you know, they, are they saying the negro national anthem today as well? so all me good. yeah. there is no racism in america anymore. right? we passed the holiday magically disappeared on. yeah, that's right. got to have good people out there. keep fighting for real justice in this country. that is are so for you today. remember everyone in this world, we are definitely not told that we are loved enough. so i tell you from the bottom my heart. i love you, i am ty, relevant or not, i'm myisha cross. keep on watching all those hawks out there and have a great day and night everybody. i these are the 4 people who pulled the trigger. survive something on survival. was the hardest things that i had. the face was not having a face at
