11:01 pm
i'll be back in about 59 minutes with another fresh look. this is our traditional glad to have you with us. i we baby boomers wish fully remember 1967 as the summer of love. and now with the season of fish only upon us is 2021 shaping up to be the summer of work for american teenagers. we see that help wanted sign every where because government unemployment benefits, which were a lifeline during the pandemic, shut down seem to have discouraged older workers from working fair charge or bum rap. let's ask hillary ford, which president of washington based straw mark, business development consultants. hillary, what numbers are you seeing?
11:02 pm
well, thank you for having me back. poland. and i did read about a summer of love in the history book. some of the songs, remember that way to be just one they, i know they actually would that. but in all seriousness, this is a great concern to me this home and i know we wanted to keep in mind that the general unemployment benefits natural you know, of labor just as you go that way. like you mentioned the some of you have to go all the way to way before you are not going to want to see this level of unemployment and you have to point 3 percent of the employee off people pushing their job and unemployment. if somebody can just actually just wanted to fix and if i be,
11:03 pm
that's the national organization for independent businesses that you reported. and this is a little bit ago, i think it was back in marshall so that there's a recall number. this is called even find employee, so about 52 percent of them said that they actually haven't been able to find any and 91 then respond to tell on actually that they had so few or actually know all of that was due to the minimum wage and can get in that in a moment, but a couple of things. and it was very much less essential. they actually call that probably by the end of the 2nd quarter, very shortly. unemployment. it's been a 4 to 4.5 percent, which is really, really low. so i think it depends on what we're talking about. a lot of companies had to employ no pun intended, very innovative strategies to get back to work and a lot of having an impact the teams because there are
11:04 pm
a lot of opening. and this is like you said, some are of what yeah. or it could be, i want to report to you that here in the ocean state summer is in full bloom. and where i live at the beach, it's turns into margaritaville for about 3 months. and around this time of year, the girl at the cash register in the grocery store sounds like a bond to girls. he's got a very fetching eastern european accent and trying to fool her into saying, oh james, i haven't figured out how yet. but these are grad students who come here for the summer, make a pile of money, bring it all back home and go back to school in the fall. and you're bump into these kids as servers in restaurants and other seasonal jobs at the beach. i had a retail business for 8 summers and the bane of my existence was the american help . wandering off around mid august because all summer long they've been working
11:05 pm
while their friends were having a great time and they've had it up to here. the big housekeeping service where i live are jamaican folks and some of them stay all year, but they staff up for the summer. they are hard work and they're super cheerful. they go home with a pile of dough, and we say see, next year, hillary, what's the matter with american kids today that they don't want some of these jobs? well, actually, holland, by the way, when you talk about the eastern european bond go. busy i'm waiting for you to introduce yourself. i thing. i'm cook holmes cook, but i'm go open in terms of it's not just the us and let's not, i mean, here are my, you know, the british american lady, but i don't want to get great american teenagers. this is not an american phenomenon. phenomenal tool, whole, and this happens in the u. k. and many other countries. for example, right before the panoramic, i was in the u. k rating. go on,
11:06 pm
i had 2 of my children with me and my sons and we were playing these go office. do you know, this is what was south resting on that it was and i can't speaking the cities i cannot be to london and other cities which actually have probably more farm workers . but at that juncture, the south, licking them, which is a long way away from the pool up not what were the beaches from southwest and poland in 2 weeks going to numerous restaurants and numerous places. we were not served by one english person, not one. so this is an american dominant thing in the u. k. it happens across the world. but i will say this when you mentioned that you're making waters, you know, in d. c before tax season in business and i would invariably off the phone. they had an accident and so many of the tactical private from kenya go and they were so happy with america that was so shocking to work. and they loved more than all
11:07 pm
other countries don't have the problem. they chamberlain, who was to walk, and i think that's the difference of the nations where they told me isn't the people don't have the good is we have it in the us or the u. k. or i should say, the western 70 well, we do take a lot for granted here. and i'm just wondering if the way the pandemic shut town has up and that everybody's life, if we're seeing a lot of pent up demand exaggerating the problem is that possible? we are, i think a lot of people come up and they want to go actually i read recently. they were talking about the fact that it and now physical over 2000000 people a day off going to say. and that is nearly the same percentage of that was the call the panoramic something like like 83 percent of the pre high. but a couple of things. number one, this article is talking about the fact that you can tell those people who typically
11:08 pm
have never really flown before, because bizarre things are being court at the p. s a check in house as well. just gum, but also things because they really haven't flown these people to be yes to talk during the panoramic. but another thing i think to hear, hold on is, i think this is the marketplace working as it should. it's not just, you know, government taking things. there is many innovative strategies that are countering that. think about it. amazon has actually had now has 1300000 employees. they, they are 63 percent from last year. so more business as a competing with amazon. what are they doing? there was a restaurant in charleston, south carolina, mr whalen. and he talked about re strategy that he's now in no pun intended employed. and that is that he has a 2nd line on all the restaurant chairs and all his restaurant. and it is the best
11:09 pm
off the kitchen, the dishwasher, and then the restaurant at the end of the night matches up to $500.00. and so it was really sweet. i read about this work for him. who said that he had this much money in all of his life, and this is the annual income by over $23000.00. and i think that the waives for the coming of the we are talking about the labor supply chain with straw mark president, the hilary ford, which a year ago, the $15.00 minimum wage was controversial and even with demand exceeding labor supply. some democrats are still pushing for it. here is michigan governor gretchen whitmore. go to increase wages. we're proposing the michigan bigger paychecks, my bigger paycheck. the plan will ensure that michiganders earn at least $15.00 an hour by giving businesses grant to cover the distance. the difference between
11:10 pm
existing hourly rate wage and $15.00 hillary has labor supply and demand rendered this minimum wage controversy, mood in the marketplace launch. what people are doing. i mentioned the innovative restaurant in charleston, south carolina, which means local marketplace. one of the things well actually we not in the city with a lot of money will stay at the country. so we don't mandated the necessary. i think businesses have to phone market. one of the things i think, while the interesting white awful white president junior, we have over 37 occasions in the detroit area. and he just spoke to saying, what will be meaning company. people who call me,
11:11 pm
he said during the time is going to show what they really like a company, a lot of rest won't work. washington post law school saying that they kept off during the very, very tough time. and i think that being a loyal team to companies that did the white thing by their employees, and that includes 2 point pain in the white. and now what we all need to eat. we need a roof over our heads. we have children to raise and launch, and in many cases, send too expensive schools. and even pre coven study after study, we've seen demonstrates that employees want their work to be meaningful, particularly the millennials, which we often typecast as idealistic. hillary, i got about a minute, but is this even more so now that we're all doing a bit of a life reassessment after the pandemic? oh yes. hollins. you have your finger right on the pulse of the trend that's
11:12 pm
happening out across the board. and there was a study recently in the u. k. same that 4 out of 10 employee wants to work for somewhere that has a meaning. and over a 3rd of people don't want to work for a company that doesn't have any meaning to that work. and i think this is very hard for the manufacturing factor in the u. s. which has been very off the plan demik supply chain concerns are really the biggest concern of the business is right now. and so the double whammy is people that want me and they're. busy going into the manufacturing sector now you put on people that you layer on top, the supply side problems that they're having through the supply chain. and that is causing a lot of difficulties for your basic kind of companies with a basic kind of, you know, proposition. but i did see this very interestingly, i used to work as you know for g and i was in the offices while ago with a project. and i saw a big poster and it had an industry and i mentioned the clients. busy of the
11:13 pm
industry that, that need to them, but it was literally a woman that was doing an audit. i supposed for a child manufacturer and she said, i keep this country rolling and that really have meaning to me. so i can find meaning in any job. it's just a question of how do you think about it is the question of having a white attitude strong. my president, hillary ford, which i look forward to after a long time. no. see, seeing you back there in washington after the 4th. meantime. have a good one coming out. yeah. hi. tech hackers have brought major corporations to their knees and the wise guys are out to get you to. we've got an important scam alert from stephen j. j wise man. after a quick break. this is the big picture on our to you america. ah,
11:14 pm
certainly the british empire, perfect. the logistics, you know, the sun never set on the british empire either dominant domination of the c d. like right. and so the u. s. that what china is saying is that they have, especially with one bout one road initiative, there's going to kind of connect similar empire that recruit, but it's going to be land base. their ideas are going to create a land based empire where it's off. so therefore to do and anyone is partners with them is also exposing themselves to the risk of bitcoin. absolutely. replacing all the money. because we're seeing enough laboratory, ah ah, so the 1st 9 months there was no improvement in the virus. it jumped out fully made. now that is a real sign of what's called gain a function worked with in ghana function where you take a virus,
11:15 pm
you want to make it more lethal. so you're exposed to human eyes mice. it makes many, many, many, many, many cycles. and in just a few months, you get something that appears to be involved over years. and the fact that this one, this came out was all ready adapted for new human transmission. it's again an unprecedented . ah ah, we've warned you about this little bugger. deer ticks that cars potentially devastating lyme disease are worse than ever this year. and not just here in the northeast. climate change is a factor, as he is all the time we're spending outdoors social distancing during and escaping

into summer weather. after the shut down. if you're hiking survival medicine expert, dr. joe alton says stick to the middle of the trail and wear long pants. you can find our conversation with him where you find all our shows archived at youtube dot com slash the big picture r t. and those aren't the only pests ready to ruin your summer with so many scams coming out us online at via email and text messages. our recent report from scam aside dot com reminds us to stay on guard against low tech wise guys. pleasant. miami to bank. how may i help you? i'd like to cash this check here, and then i'd like to take you off or estate attorney author and bentley university professor. steve wiseman tell us how check washing works. like you picked
11:17 pm
a good piece that was from the movie the catch me if you can with tom hanks and was about the real scammer and identity, the frame abigail, and he did his skimming and identity. the now he works in security, but back then he would counterfeit checks and wash checks. and the thing is, it is incredibly easy to do. you get a hold of a check that has been written and with just bleach or acid tone common chemicals, you can wash clear out the name and the number, and you can write that check to yourself. now we think sometimes, you know, people will put checks in an envelope and put it out in their mailbox to alert the postal character. sometimes even as a little red flag on your mailbox that you flip up and let the mail carrier know. you're also letting that identity thief who is cruising around your neighborhood know that there's some mail going out and it might even be a check going to someone where they can grab. they also sometimes will look at this
11:18 pm
mail, take it, grab these checks and make it payable over to them. so washing is really easy to do and sometimes maybe even not even when you get it in the mail. sometimes it may be you give a check at a store, and a robi employee will take that and wash that check. so what you got to do is when you write a check, you want to use what's called a gel pen because this is something that can't be changed. you can also use a girl fashioned fountain pen, but i don't know holland, if you like me. when i was a kid the few times they ever tried a fountain pen, somehow my, my hands alter and blue. so the gel pen is the way to go. you can get at it, any kind of stationery store, you're writing checks with that and you're going to be ok. frankly, you're better off not using paper check to anyway and paying electronically. he's the author of a stack of books and if he can read only one, make it identity theft alert. 10 rules you must follow to protect yourself from
11:19 pm
america's number one. crime a steve every day on facebook. there's a cute little poll asking me, what's my all time favorite record album, or the best concert i ever attended? what's the harm and responding? now everybody likes these quizzes in little surveys. the problem is they provide all kinds of information about you that can be used in 2 ways to your detriment. one is, you know, we're all familiar with fishing males and fishing text messages which they call fishing. and what happens is you get something that maybe a comes from, oh, i don't know, it looks like a bank or someone else, but it really isn't tailored for you. however, spear fishing emails or when the bad guys have personal information about something that connects you, such and a band that you might be interested in, or some other interest of yours and they get these to the service. and so they lore
11:20 pm
people into clicking on links in these emails, in these text messages, and then they download malware or lower them into providing personal information that can be used to make them victims of identity theft. the other way that this problem occurs is they gather all of this data about us and they use that for purposes of identity. they may use that information to help even create a synthetic identity which complicates our identity. they also may take that information and use that to maybe get at passwords and security questions that we might use. so the bottom line is we're all a little bit too loose with all of the information that we share on social media that can be then leveraged against us. steve, it seems like spend our lives avoiding scam stirs and then we
11:21 pm
die. and now you're reporting, i thought what you call deceased identity theft. why do i care what the wise guys are up to after i'm gone? well, you made up with your family much. i should. i found it amazing that. and this is the evidence of the ones we know about. there's always more people that are scan that we don't even know about. but 2 and a half 1000000 americans were victims of identity theft after they die. now what happens is the bad guys, again, they get that social security number in the past. when the times they can actually say things are better now. they used to be something that social security had called the death master in debt. sounds like something out of star work. you could go onto this desk master index, put in the name of anyone who would died and get their social security numbers. and the bad guys just did this over and over. so it took years. but finally, social security, shut that down, but the bad guys still managed to get that social security number and then they get
11:22 pm
it your credit report. and then they establish credit, they buy things, they file and income tax return. the problem is it complicates the estate suddenly, there are claims made against the estate and you've got to be spending your time fixing it. and the bad guys also know that most of us, when we're dead, aren't checking our credit reports or our credit cards quite as much as we did when we were alive. and so they generally can get away with this for quite a bit longer. so the thing here is as part of any estate settlement, when someone dies, what you want to do is contact each of the 3 major credit reporting agencies and close the accounts down. you also want to let any businesses that you do business with close those accounts down and you even want to be careful what you put in an obituary. sometimes people will put in the names of grandchildren and suddenly the grandparents are getting that call the grandparents scam. hi, it's me,
11:23 pm
steve. i'm in trouble and i'm in boston and i need your help. so all of this information we put out there comes back to bite us. thank you. steve wiseman scanner side dot com. america needs a war on waste. according to non partisan, nonprofit washington watchdog real clear policy. spotlighting government waste in its waste of the day reports among examples they've posted and opened the books dot com one point. $1000000000.00 were distributed as bonuses to a 1000000 federal bureaucrats whose performance was rated fully successful. is it statistically possible for 99.7 to be fully successful? 100000000 in american rescue plan funds went to the 50 richest places in the usa. real clear policy says we spent 2100000 on grab the armrest.

lose the high a match cancer. this is a cause a report, you know, nature will not be denied. nature eventually takes control and we're seeing it in the big claim. mining migration, stacy? right, well, we are seeing right now in historic event, right. it is the great hash power migration. china has kicked between miners out of the country. and there are many reasons for that. we're not going to really go into that in this episode. but what we're talking about is the migration of all that

mining from china to cars extend to texas to elsewhere in america and around the world. but i wanted to point out that you and i were recently speaking about how, when the spanish empire around the world, the spanish armada controlled the seas. they could get away with just plunder, right? they didn't need to seek profit, they didn't need to build wealth or create, well they just plundered. and we're seeing that in this to me, what we're witnessing is profit versus plunder as motive. so here, all these big, why miners, they have no ruler, there's no leader in bitcoin, right? there's just profit. so you have to follow wherever the profit goes. first, let's just say, you know, china is kicking out more than half of the world. big point miners and a whole lot of them could be headed to texas. james, a lot says about this migration, these thousands of between mining

a 6 are being shipped immediately within a few hours of the band being announced. normally in order for an internet service to relocate major infrastructure without downtime requires massive amounts of planning and coordination. and yet, we're watching a tectonic shift and bitcoin mining infrastructure occur without anyone in charge. you know, this is one of the most amazing engineering accomplishments. the humans have been a part of since the beginning, you know, going back thousands of years. we've rarely ever seen anything like this jamison lobby point. there's a couple of ways to look at this. i mean there is a one point, a $170.00 quintillion calculations per 2nd on the network a rayed globally. and that had to some degree the center of its universe was kind of.
