tv Dennis Miller One RT July 9, 2021 7:30am-8:01am EDT
7:30 am
a folks next up on dennis miller plus one can you believe? 25 years is shorter of the century. spence, the original space chat and film. they get a new one. come about space jam, a new legacy and one of the heavy hitters in the voice. everything also happens to be one of the sweetest guys, eric bows, so i don't know quite know, we'll find out who he's voicing and film but he'll be there. they brought in all, all the players and voiceovers will also talk to him about a nice show. he is on apple tv plus good message for the kid called doug. unplugged the internet certainly an alluring tool, but casually pull the plug and get out there. and i think the speaks to that eric bowels are right after this. dennis miller plus one. hey folks. welcome to dennis miller plus one. that'll get that gun. this guy,
7:31 am
i can tell that he's a happy abuse in soul. and that's part of the reason that he is. let's call him one of the most preeminent voice actors on on the planet right now, is the voice of the looney tunes, characters, bug, but bugs bunny, daffy duck. marvin the martian. i think that little can the century and how to floats around for me. if i remember for my youth, tweety bird and he voices some of those characters many more. for in the upcoming film space jam a new legacy out this summer. and he also voices multiple characters. i read up on the sean, this is very intriguing. i love the series title, and it does unfold the mean some they dug, unplug this and it's currently streaming on apple t. v plus. and this is our friend eric bala. eric, how are you today? my friend, me watch up, danny. i don't know what i don't know what could have possibly given the fact that i like bugs bunny away. i don't know if i'm over doing it or not enough.
7:32 am
looking over your shoulder at the wall paper print, just let me say this when it comes the bug bunny impressions. i'm all yours, my friend. absolutely. i go back to a time when daffy could get shot with a man. liquor, car, piano, and have his build flip around his head, that's how far back guys, go with the team. just don't, you just don't want to say, you know, rabbi play fun or duck so you can, you know, you gotta, you gotta, it's very up every now and then. and definitely daffy duck is a non pandemic friendly voice. you've got to stay away from my mouth. you know, you've got to keep your desk and flare pal, it really just is richard dreyfus with a lisp death. you know, i'm not going to be a hot meal for some shark. okay, mr. bon, what we're dealing with here is a perfect eating machine. yeah. you know, it's, you know,
7:33 am
this was low animation accident. no, not at all. the thing you even if i weren't doing these voices, even if i weren't graced with the luck of doing these voices. i would still have this stuff hanging up on my wall i'm. i'm still just the fan as, as i was before. i was doing these voices as i am now. so i was, i like some bugs when i have fog or lag car and i'm in for the pew for i knows that the end of the world is we know i'm not going to get into that bind. but i dug all these people speedy. gonzales, excuse me. i didn't run that the by was a kid and they shall be. and i'm not every the world going bad. i just dig in the cart to, you know, when i knew i was going to talk to, i went back and i've always, i thought, i've always been such a phantom l blank. i mean what, what an amazing niche talent. i don't mean mentioned that the minute sense. i just
7:34 am
mean the nobody could make a run that the counsel blank because he was so proficient at it. and i don't know if you know the story. i was so fascinated to find out that he was born, his given name was b, l, a n k, as in blank slate, toddler. awesome. so the ability to poor all these voices, into what you, you're in the busy must be the quintessential vessel. you try always find him a fascinating absolutely. i mean, and he just goes to show number one, you know, bugs turned 80 last year. and the fact that we're still talking about bugs. 80 years later goes to show how much love heart and soul he poured into not just bugs, but the rest of the looney tunes. and it, i mean, it takes, i'm the 7th guy to voice bugs and i know i won't be the last and it just goes to show how many people it takes to, you know, take to carry that mantle, that one guy did him. and you know, you could look at someone like june for a like,
7:35 am
you know, you people say the female mel blanc, but she was just june for a, you know, she was the 1st lady of animation voiceover for the ladies. and you know, both of their work stood the test of time and yeah, that these cartoons were definitely made in a different time. and definitely weren't the idea behind those original shorts weren't to be shown on saturday mornings. they were actually throw away cartoons in those old movie houses. you know, i'm actually 100 years old. these filipino genes of mine looking young. you know, as soon as i turn 101 is like i become yoda, i just everything. just gravity get the better picture soon. no. but, but you know what, i mean, it's like the cartoons were done in a different time. and i know, i know nowadays representation matters more than ever. but i feel like we have to get to that playing field again. where, you know, especially from
7:36 am
a boy sector's point of view, it never mattered what i look like, right? like, and suddenly it does and for, for good reason. you know. but i just want to get to a point where we can laugh at ourselves again. where it's not, there are, how can i, how can i give credit to contemporary man for evolving? if i spend every moment of my day going back to times of your and same, why didn't it exist that it didn't exist then? because we've got an accumulation of emotional knowledge of this protestant point in history, we're starting to see some of the oversights. if i'm to go back into the early 19 twenties and figure out why we didn't have the light bulb go on. and then i'm missing the point in the interim, 80 to 90 years. we've accumulated sponsor of plenty any more. it seems like it's silly. it seems like a sissy and battle. you're always can go back
7:37 am
a decade earlier and find something i choose not to do it. i choose to have fun memories of cartoons and whatever changes they've had to make to make it may label for today. more than happy about that to, you know, i have a theory on bugs approach in the century mark, it goes back to chaplain, kicking the passport guy behind with his leg. it goes back to grow, show entering low and subversive with a cigar. you transport the carrot, i think bugs it holds a mirror up to be answers. i think it's a primal service that bugs does. well, yeah, i mean he's, he's pretty much voiced of all bugs was the original social distance. he lived in a hole in the ground, right? i mean, he always wore gloves. and basically, you know, he was the every man and until someone like elmer funder yosemite, sam, you know, really kick them off. that's when that's when it was over there. then, you know,
7:38 am
of course, you realize this means was, you know, that's when all bets were off and forget it. you shouldn't. and you shouldn't have cross paths with bugs bunny. but yeah, i mean, that's why i think he was so related. and he's a hero. you know, he's still like one of those guys that he doesn't always win and he doesn't have the big muscles usually when he flexes. it just like the letter you under there and, you know, again, i think that's why he's so related and so lovable and, and then you have everyone else around him. you know, if he's like the jerry seinfeld of the crew, then you have people like the george to standards like daffy duck and then you have the people like crap, you know, like the, you have the extreme characters around them. so, you know, it was very i, you have to sit and wonder what they were thinking of when they were making this stuff back in the forty's like they, i look at this stuff as reference, you know, to be better as, as an artist, like i before i became
7:39 am
a voice over artist. i was like in animation as an artist i used to draw. so i can't even imagine what they were looking at. like smoking unfiltered cigarettes at 11 am. wearing 3 piece will suits late in their backyard. black, would you like was like the soviet you make it a living, a man of a 1000 voices of some points probably hit the time clock back then. and then he turns conduit for the dreams of millions of kids. what an amazing star gate belt black was. yeah. just just amazing. and again, it's if it weren't for me and i would be in like plumbing school right now for sure . you know, like, bugs bunny voice. it's like, i think there's been 7 jane. well, let's think john comrey george lays and be over roger moore. i think we
7:40 am
may have 6 or 11 bonds, but it's fascinating. amount of bugs is and double. 07. the double. 07 of innovation. i never really thought of it that way. but wow, what a comparative well, it's quite, it's quite a mental you of assume. we're talking eric browser and we'll talk to him about loony tunes. i wanted to do some met interview here. i'm fascinated by the just by the, the art of inhabiting these animated creatures so many way seems to me more real. some of the people i watch walking around and flesh and blood these days. and he also voices, multiple characters in the animated series. doug unplugged and that's got a cool story behind it that is streaming on apple tv plus now listen, people put a place card up to hold interviews as they do it. when i do these on zoom and you are with the loveliest, is that i don't know enough about you is that your child?
7:41 am
i only got a glimpse for a 2nd. who's that's my son, my son ryker. and he's definitely either going to be in animation, or i've driven him away completely from it. he's 5. you know, he loves, he loves cartoons, is as much as his old man his, his mom is also in animation. and she's a animation director over at nickelodeon, so animations definitely. i think it might be in the future, but maybe it's enough that he's oversaturated that he may become an accountant in encino somewhere in the future. but listen, you know, i used to have a calder mobile hanging over my crib that i'd look at. i was always a trepidatious kid. i think. well, that's coming done on may. i can't imagine what it must be likes to look up, but your dad's face and have you up there would have magical connection for you leading into their crib. well, it's funny because, you know, we'll,
7:42 am
we'll go to the park or like the playdates and, you know, again, 5 years old will walk up to like, you know, people that i, he may know cuz sometimes than any takes him out. and then i'm at work and then i finally go and he goes, oh hey, this is where he goes, i'm riker, i'm, i'm 5 years old. this is my dad. he's bugs bunny and like people, you know, they probably look at that as like, oh, he probably does the voice for, for him, you know, for fun and all that stuff, but he's become like, my, my manager. you know, he's, he's pimping me out on the jungle park, you know, but i think it's so flattering. and i, you know, i just, i just want to, you know, i just, when we do visa, we watch the cartoons together because i have to study. right. and i got to study, and when i see him enjoy the cartoons that i used to laugh at when i was like his
7:43 am
age, just to see it come full circle and then watch the episodes, the new ones where, where i'm in it as bugs. and he can, he can tell that it's me, it really is mind blowing. it really is, you know, something else or talk there. and once again, here's the voice of looney tunes, characters, bugs, daffy, marvin, the martian, tweety bird. they've got the big film coming out space gym to a new legacy with bron, i'm sure they had to call and all hands on deck for that. we'll see how the voice is broke down for the new flick. and he does multiple characters in the animated series. doug unplug the streaming on apple tv, plus we will talk about both of those projects right after this with our friend derrick bows on dennisville plus one ah, ah,
7:44 am
to don't to leave this notion over 20 new he said when she gets home later to love me as she knew, she wouldn't be a little girl for what i was studying for me to teach julia traditional. but she's she's really, if you see the one doing the best for me was upset for me in the last with yeah, so this is the new,
7:45 am
the new new new new which is about what if the new i see executable once it went up, when i got to pull it up on that. got me. ah hey folks. welcome back to dennis miller plus one. it's nice to know that the is the well, let me say it for me. sacred voices from my youth and kids use today have been entrusted into such sweet soul. and i can tell bowels, is that just from chat and i'm up for a segment here. we got the big film coming up, m j did this years ago. now labranz step and then i hope he's good as m j because m j really is that was, that was a groovy film. tell me about the new space champ,
7:46 am
to my friend. well, i, like you said, i mean i am a child of the ninety's. i am 41. i will be turning 42 this year if, if you can't hear that, that's my bones cracking as every breath i take because that'll but i grew up in the jordan era of the n b a and i watched space jam. i can't tell you how many times in theaters, and that was also like the looney tunes resurgence. it was kind of like we were catching these characters in reruns. and even before the original space jim there were 2. michael jordan bugs bunny. they call them hair and air jordan commercials that were super bowl ads. and they basically paired michael jordan, some ad agency in new york thought. let's put the greatest and be a player and the greatest cartoon character ever made together and see what happens
7:47 am
. and then the 2nd commercial air again, on super bowl, this time with marvin the martian. isn't that lovely or the creature? you know, he was the adversary. and then 2 years after that is when we had space gym. so again, i was a true fan before before even the movie, i mean, i own animation selves from from the actual commercial. i found some here in burbank and i was just my mind was blown like that these existed and nobody wanted them except me. the biggest nerd in california. so yes, so i, i've been an avid fan of the original and to see it come back like 25 years. i think it's going to be 25 years this fall 25 year old to see it, you know, re made and reimagined with, arguably now the greatest player presently,
7:48 am
le bron james. you know, you can count the rings, you can count the dunks, you can. i mean, in the fact that he's still going, you know, he's, he's, it doesn't seem like he's getting tired outside of being a world class like athletes. he's a family man and does tremendous amounts of charity work for his hometown of akron, ohio. and. and now he's executive producing this film, which i don't know if you saw the trailer, it got over how many millions and millions and millions. i think i was one of the few that was like up at like 5 in the morning looking at my phone and there was like a count down for this thing. i've never seen anything like it. and the trailer was just so well received. grand. this, this might be, i think, one of the biggest move, i mean in our, in our current situation, it might be the biggest money making movie of 2021 can be people could be
7:49 am
shepherd back in to the way things where it was such a nice hearted project and let me tell you, erica, you're at 42 as you say, and i'm 25 years beyond you. and i guarantee these things are going to start happening to you. are you notice that i just like get into the front door of being an older cab? because imagine space jam now has a 25 year gap and then a seat go on, a re believable old enough to drink space. jim like space jam could walk into a bar and have a drink to today if it wanted to. and it's just, it's crazy and to be invited to the, the table like it's been announced that i'm officially part of the cast. but it is not announced which characters i'm playing, and i'll let you know because there's been so much for not rumors, but i would say,
7:50 am
you know, like the news broke last year of me voicing bugs for looney tunes cartoons this one right here. and it happened later in the year, which is odd because, well, looney tunes cartoons premier at the same time cove at 19 premier. so no one cared that i was of bugs bunny. at that point, everyone was glued to their the news of coven, understandably. but after a full year of covey, people were like anything but coven and a friend of mine. jenna me again. back in, back in my hometown of toronto, ontario canada a. she decided to do a story on me becoming the voice of bugs bunny and bugs bunny's from scarborough where, where mike myer, i live around the corner from mike myers way, which is like they named a street like a hydro field after my like give them something better than that,
7:51 am
he deserves better than that but. but yeah, it was, it was kind of crazy at the recognition and love from, from not just toronto, but vancouver, you know, places like when a peg. i'm sure places that you've toured before and your and your stand up past the other i just i can tell you from 1st hand experience, you're an absolute god and flint fly my front people burn, incense at your altar and listen, i know mike, he was a perfectionist when he was on s and l. so i hope mike myers way as a one way. he's going to do it one way or you are going to do it or the or the freeway. that's amazing. like yeah, like the news had hit, but then also this news of space jim was happening. so people automatically pinned me as the new voice for bugs, which means i'm automatically the new voice in space jan, which is not only we,
7:52 am
we now live in this era where reboot's and re imaginings used to happen like anywhere between 2 to 4 years of one another, now they're happening between $2.00 and $4.00 weeks of one another. you know, you have streaming, you have, you know, your phones, you got like theater, you got tv, you got so many places to show these characters that people just can't get enough of. and every time they switch hands, each show runner, executive producer director, has a different vision of how the character should be performed and who the character should be performed by. so in this case, you know, i was good for this one for loony tunes cartoons under pete brown guard to be exec producer on that. but in, in labranz film, he thought jeff bergmann who's voicing bugs in the film was the better bugs for the job. and let me tell you something about jeff bergman. he he has been. he was the
7:53 am
1st guy to voice bugs bunny in 1989 after the passing of mel blanc. and if there's anyone, if there's anyone that should have done bugs bunny 1st in the feature film, it's jeff, and i'm so happy for him. like this is definitely his moment for sure. and i've seen parts of the film i've heard him. he sounds fantastic. and i honestly think like the, the fans are going to be completely satisfied with this film. i listen, i want to get to the other project because i love the, i love the unplugged. and so pivotal in this thing, listen, it's been a great gift that this generation has been given when i think back, none of this existed. there were 3 channels. busy and we had a transistor radio 5.4 up to 1600. nowadays the whole world is available there. it gives us an a taken away. and i do think at some point, much like a parent feathering enough towards time to tell them to get you got to get i live
7:54 am
on your own. you've got to unplug from this stuff. and i think that's the sort of subliminal message behind or not. so subliminal, behind unplugged, in doug plugs, right? that's correct. it's basically a robot family trying to learn how to be human and in a world where we're looking at our phones and you know, they're actually trying to just experience it. you know, they're definitely using their, their use of technology to explore, but they're really having a better time, you know, just doing it as opposed to just asking the questions and just kind of being the robot that they are. i play bob bought on the show. he's, he's the, he's the father and i don't know if they gave me this really cool mug. and i saw this early design and i saw, i saw. 7 the hair, i saw the eyebrows
7:55 am
a shot glasses and all i could think of is, is robot loves you a lot like eugene levy, you know, i'm from toronto, i'm a big, you know, as she tv fan, i hope you gene doesn't see this and tries to sue me but you know, oh god, i love eugene levy, he's great. so that's kind of like, you know, aside from being a dad myself and having one of the best dad, my dad eddie, back in toronto and seeing my brother, you know, he's, he's one of the greatest dads, i've got to see raise his 2 kids. and i thought boy, i hope i'm as good as these guys. but if i couldn't have my dad as a dad, i would love to adopt eugene levy as my as my tv dad. so he was basically one of ours. yeah. basically the maintenance parish enough for me to kind of do it. i know it's a little spooky. seeing a filipino guy sound like eugene levy with all this yes. creek attention that he's been getting but a game saves him for the rest of us. oh boy. yeah,
7:56 am
i like to look out for it. he's a good friend divide and i'm sure he'll be honored by the margin. as i think of jean, if i had to say animated character with gina would think of those hi browsers, hooker, smoking, caterpillar. i think i'd have to go back to wonderland with jeans and i'll be completely honored. we're talking to a good toronto ontario boy, or by the way, are you a big austin matthews? fan, the kids lighten it up is and he likes to laugh. you're not, you fall on hockey, so what am i asking? you know, i've, i've left most of my canadian habits behind. i'm definitely more of a basketball fan than i am a hockey kid, but man, oh man. i learned how to swear by watching my dad watch hockey. that's basically the truth. well, when he was seen when he was watching the lease, he was no doubt watching the davy key on darrow settler. bobby heard back the great
7:57 am
our i've been a leaf than much of my adult life. we're talking to the greater 1000 folks. now he's got 2 projects and if you're out there and you, you want to get your kid with a big what parent does live to see that big smell and their kids mug. he does multiple characters in the animated series, doug. unplugged listen closely when bobby the dads talk and that streaming on apple tv plus right now, haven't had the character brake done on all this, but we saw like we got the right guy doing bugs in space, jam and new legacy. but they've brought in all the heavy hitters. this is 27 yankees, a voiceover people coming in. because 45 years later they've got to pay this office to beloved the film. and i'm sure they'll knock it out of the park. a good character in and of himself. you couldn't drum as nice as he is. thank you for your time. eric bout dennis miller plus while the other the other the and that's how
7:58 am
folks that if, if, if i, if i didn't do that then what's the point? i mean i'm wired, i mean what i mean, eugene levy way here. that'd be a different story. right? i mean, i don't know, but like, seriously, mr. miller, it is, it is truly been an honor getting to talk to you today. and i wish you a health and happiness to you in the family. all right, my friend, we'll talk at you down the road. thanks. for your time brother, take care the name as part of the international mega science with that project. neither is being built into. it's going to allow the scientists to study matter that they believe it existed just the big bang good form.

ah, this is more flu shane and the order for the living authority. the other one is not one to deal with clarity. you chose a country montage boma some go out and we'll just go play that niga emotions here from gulf that i don't watch the movies. we could use that as the special episode of summer solutions. today we're talking with john robina of dollars, collab dot com. they write 2021 has been the year of the i word inflation. even the central bank is mentioning inflation. is that transitory? however, as the central bank is arguing,

or are we going to see something worse coming forward in the next year or 2? ah, the mission far from complete the president bud and confirms united states will be out of afghanistan by the end of next month, leaving the country. so you know, mission accomplished. the right and the responsibility that can people alone decide their future and how they want to run their country. while as refugees continue to flee the country and take a new life in europe, the brutal rights murder of a 13 year old girl in australia, hands of an afghan migrant was again position of immigration, certainly in the spotlight. so a window of the school has belgium over french funds for the short turbines as sold as the eiffel tower. we hear from coastal communities tell us why they're far from
