broadcasting lie from moscow, russia. this is our international. i'm your host donald quarter. welcome to the program. might be the beautiful game, but it's not looking good for the fight against coded. it's feared that sunday's euro 2020 final could cause a huge spike in cases. as a victorious italian team paraded their trophy through the center of rome. the enormous crowds gave little thought to covert regulations. and that team just as a, just a day after tens of thousands of unmasked fans crammed together at the match in london, world health organization described the event as devastating. am i supposed to be enjoying watching transmission happening in front of my ice? the cool read 900 pandemic is not taking a break tonight, sorry covey to delta v r, and will take advantage of an vaccinated people in crowded settings, unmasked screaming, shout, and singing. devastating. the

$60000.00 fans barely a mass to be seen. a lack of social distancing, no checks and claims of faith test results. that was the scene playing out at wembley stadium, or external with derek clark, who was at that game was public controls were a joke. you didn't even need to do or freak a test because you weren't even checked for you. want to see that were just checking your phone for your q off woods. once you've seen that you had a ticket on your phone, they were just allowing you and that you had a negative test so that you really feel that the test either missing more really to the the think you should have taken more seriously is not checked with him and it was just a lot of sorts of people with motor bus security measures should have been in

police as well, but just wasn't enough security of yours to tell you that the checks health care officials are warning the final could push the u. k to a 1000000 new infections within a month. faces have already shot up to some 35000 a day, but the prime ministers still scrapping england's restrictions next week. the government points to a successful inoculation program with almost 35000000 people getting the shot. we will speak to our plan to live legal restrictions and to lift social distancing. there are clark again says it's hard not to fear a new spike uncovered cases. the restrictions are easy and the 19th of july, of course, is when i'm looking at this final restrictions easing as well. so things are getting back to normal, but very little people waiting masks and wash nights, especially heading towards the underground station after the lounge. amount of

people, but no dual monster reading. so it was that they could be a rising, teach because of that. then as i mentioned, they'll have no checks for corporate heading into the grounds. so that as of what that, i mean i was in the ground just about 20 minutes. there was already 3 or 4 young guys of it's already posted in corona virus continues to evolve with the delta variant. now in more than $100.00 countries, the strain was 1st identified in india and is believed to be the most contagious. yet, the world health organization predict it'll be the dominant very and globally within months. and here in russia, the strain already accounts for more than 90 percent of new infections. and as the strain continues to spread, russia has set another daily cova death toll record with $780.00 fatalities registered in the last 24 hours. with more on how health care workers are dealing with this challenge, here's anton krislofski,
12:05 pm
who's who returns to the red zone in the latest installment of his documentary series epidemic. the luck an empty bed, an empty bed. it's an empty space out there, a small one. so there are 1347 beds. i hoped i would never come back here again. we're at a hospital again and here again, are these dams, crops side. how did the hospital start to fill up? do you remember the day when cbs and rock of i announced another spike in cases that started when the city announced 9000 infections when there had previously only been 3004. so if we brought that on ourselves, we were monitoring that there had been 50 patients daily, and suddenly the number went up to 100 and then 200120130. and so i was. but of
12:06 pm
course, the key point is that we've already well prepared. the worst thing is when you're not album for him, what's the main pattern of this new stranger's? probably not going to come to your firstly, it's more contagious. and 2nd, it hits way faster than the previous and now takes $1.00 to $2.00 days instead of 7th waiting with that. and i think it's also hitting younger people. one for me. well, i do what? yeah, i'm looking at patients and i recall the moments of the 1st and the 2nd waif. they were mainly older people. and now just look, everyone is younger than me. they didn't believe it would happen. they thought the virus had gone, but he stayed. i think everything's okay. it's a simple flu and it will end soon, but it doesn't. it wasn't for the day off today. and how many of those in the hospital are vaccinated? well, around 122-1000 patients. i'll tell you from a lovely and believable young guys. i've never seen anything like this before. so
12:07 pm
literally everyone is younger than me. let me, how's it going? great. how long have you been here? well, i've been here for some 2 weeks. i guess. how did you end up here? did you have a high temperature? yes. i had a temperature. i called an ambulance. they brought me here and my condition drastically nose dived. what do you mean? well, in 2 days, how old are you? i'm 47. so we're the same age and how badly were your lungs damaged? 75 percent? $75.00. yes, i was only released from an intensive work today. did you get the vaccine for? no. why did you? because i'm an idiot. how is that possible? it's available to you. why is this happening? where people not vaccinating? we do look since the 90 s, there was an anti vaccination campaign at that time, and those mad moms said we won't be vaccinated against measles, chicken pulse. we won't take any vaccine. someone put that idea in their heads,
12:08 pm
that the vaccination is bad. but in fact, it saves lives and it helps vanquish the pandemic. so when do you think it will end? never goal time damage tend to last from 3 to 5 years. i'm actually afraid of asking you who is vaccinating and non you raise your hands please. he's vaccinated . i know him. well, actually anyone who comes here is vaccinated. well, it's because you're a strict boss. i've been in an intensive care unit for a month and my condition is severe. maybe the outcome would be less if i had taken a job. i wanted to get vaccinated, but i didn't find time. and now i'm in a dire condition. the me, ah, ah,
12:09 pm
ah, the ah, ah, ah . and the disturbing related development reports are coming in of patients now being infected with 2 variants of the corona virus. at the same time, on tuesday, an expert at a top russian institute said the 1st such national case has been reported in an elderly woman as early as last year. another report came from belgium 2 days ago, where a 90 year old woman died while carrying both the alpha and beta variance of the virus. several cases of double infection have also been detected in thailand.
12:10 pm
to get more insight into these developments, we go live now to bob javan professor of urology at the university of vienna. bob, thanks a lot for joining us on the program. now my 1st question for you is basically do these dual infection cases increase the risk of new mutations in the virus? would you say? well, probably the answer is no. let me be very clear. we were expecting things like that to happen and also understand that the reason why we know that these 90 year old lady has that double infection is because it did a very clear dna genomics. we have not done dna genomics on 99 percent of patients who had called it. so probably we will have a lot higher rate if we would test everybody so precisely. well, let me be very clear. this is something if your vaccinated is not that much of a problem that's older lady was unfortunately not action. ok. so aside from people who are not vaccinated in the population,
12:11 pm
what are there any specific groups of the population that are more vulnerable to catching these 2 variants or any 2 bearing simultaneously? well, i think, as you appreciate, i'm a urologist and you would ask yourself, why would urologist talk about infections? and 1st of all, we deal with infections. unit tract infections. but frankly speaking as a cancer surgeon, we do have a lot of patients we're newly suppressed. and we had, as a matter of fact, a lot of our patients being infected with it, we're not actually. so yes, cancer patients are at risk. any patient who's not vaccine or has immune deficiency or has cancer or being treated for cancer is addressed. but if you are talking about these dual infection, i really believe in that. we had a nice talk right now with the president, the austria medical association, about the same topic just an hour ago. and he was clearly saying that if you're vaccinated, probably that the real numbers are much higher. we thought dual infection. see this lady had alpha and better barriers in brazil, just january to 2021. we had
12:12 pm
a lady who was infected with the delta v area, and another variant that we don't even know what it is. but again, what we know today from the information we have, and from all the data that we have in the clinical curses, which are very important, is that if you are vaccinated, even if you are infected with to variance of the, of the call with that the virus that the course of the disease will be still very, very mild, and certainly the date, the death rates, which were amazing about a year ago will be much, much lower. so i think we can a little bit relax yet. be very careful. and we need obviously more data and analyzes more specifically. yeah, no doubt vaccines help in that regard. how would you assess the claim that some are making that this, the 2 strain infections can actually lower the effectiveness of covered shots? how would you assess that? frankly speaking is also difficult to answer that question. you know, it's an important question. so far we had this one lady and she was not vaccinated
12:13 pm
. so even if you get a 90 year old with one strain with one cove, it type infected his which is not vaccinated. the chance of her dying or being very ill and very sick is very high. so the question is, this is dual inspection. really the reason why she died and this was so severe or the fact that she was an elderly lady and she was not vaccinated. so i don't think so. what i think the question that will arise from all these dual infections is, should we, in the future, combine vector vaccines such as put think, for example, we are in a vaccines such as, you know, but there are no or pfizer. this is the true question to answer because now we are entering the space of 3rd boosts, vaccinations. and the question is, if you have 2, for example, 2, pfizer vaccines should be go ahead and use a vector vaccines. are the sputnik or any of the other vector vaccines, or should we stick with the 3rd r n a virus vaccine?
12:14 pm
so that's the question really to answer. in spite of these dual infections. well, actually that goes right into the next question. i wanted to ask you, i mean what's, what's your take on that, whether the 3rd booster shot should be a vector shot in our, in a shot, and what do you, what kind of potential consequences do you think could arise from, for example, pfizer is thinking about you know, getting permission for a 3rd booster shot. i can only give you an answer from a cancer patient point of view and the surgeon treating those individuals. see those who had to astrazeneca shops are certainly probably less immune that those that had. and that's presented. and up pfizer, but to pfizer was still superior than obviously to, to astrazeneca, which were, in this case, obviously vector shots. now i'm not speaking about that. it wasn't specifically, but i'm saying the vector shots, so i think to are in a shots are still superior to, to vector shots. yet i think the combination and that needs to be analyzed probably
12:15 pm
is going to out out perform. but again, i think the future will be maybe to are in a shot. that's what most of our people got. and we had a good response and good results with that. and maybe the question is right now, should the 3rd boost shot be a, get an are in a shop or a vector shop. and it's all now being, you know, personal opinion. it's not, it could damage. it's not evidence based because we don't have the data. so if you ask me like very openly what, why think i certainly would be in favor of doing a vector shot as a 3rd shot. but again, we are not fighting as a matter of fact to get people vaccinated at all. we unfortunately, and you had a nice, i think, advertisement shots, and under russia today just a minute ago where you were talking to an individual who was not vaccinated at all and was complaining that he should have done it. this is the problem where people still not being vaccinated with their 1st tra, right, well,
12:16 pm
one more question for your doctor, in your professional opinion, do you think that european union's state should be rejecting people with certain jobs? i mean, one example could be, for example, the indian made astrazeneca vaccine. well, that's a very difficult question and it's a political question and it would be a political answer. what i refused to accept is that unfortunately, the european union refused the sputnik from the beginning. that's something i criticized as an individual. the indian one i, we don't have data to analyze that, but we had enough data about sputnik and we knew that split is working. there was enough field numbers and field data out there. so i cannot answer the question with the indian one, but remember the indians have the delta variance, so probably they have more information and more data and more availability to produce vaccines that direct against the delta barrier. that may be the question that needs still to be answered. but at this point, i can't tell you whether that is
12:17 pm
a good thing or about that bob javan professor at the university in vienna. thanks a lot for joining us. and thanks for that insight into these new developments. my pleasure. he was president, has pointed the finger squarely at washington over protests that have gripped his country. thousands have flooded the streets of the caribbean nation over an economic crisis exacerbated by the pandemic. the anti government movement is being called the biggest in 30 years. the protest cap, a tough year for cuba, you economy has pledged 11 percent made worst by american sanctions. despite that top us politicians are reacting to the protests with hash tag, as so as cuba, expressing their full support for those on the streets. this foreign minister claims the us government's actually behind the riots and that the white house will use any means available to turn cuba upside down. and that's what i believe that i
12:18 pm
call on twitter. and i also call them the u. s. government to recognize or deny that political operators actively use tags collect pills or groups of robots. trolls who use a coordinated with automated means to fly the networks, etc, etc. and they sell for ration against cuba rolls. if you go on twitter, you will find the hash tag as so as cuba in the trends, and some of the most senior us politicians among those sending out the signal saying how much they are worried. so genuinely worried be so for the cuban regime to step down and lead democracy flourish in cuba. i hope and pray for a free cuba for morality is no suffering under is unbearable communist rule. viva cuba libra s o s. cuba. so as cuba might as well turn into cuban lives, matter, please don't blame me for trying to sound sarcastic when talking about serious
12:19 pm
hardships of an entire nation. but just think of this, it's america, that's been squeezing tube in the clutches of it's economic blockade for 6 decades and refuse to lifted even when the pandemic take, then even when 184, you a nation's called on washington to do so, just for the sake of the people in the difficult times in havana, this hard line is being compared to janice side. but nope, the americans can't be bothered because the sanctions are a tool for democracy and that probably works as a universal excuse. havana is blaming the u. s. for inciting protests and backing them with cash plus, it's firmly against the hypocrisy. and the voices of concern from the neighbors said bottom while we are addressing revolutionaries who may have become entangled. addressing cubans who may have some concerns, but we will not allow the opponents of the revolution. mercenaries were sold out to
12:20 pm
the u. s. government sold out to the empire, receiving money from subversive agencies to provoke destabilization. like i said, the style, the wording, the matter on the part of the us elite is hardly a surprise given the history of how they've been dealing with on wanted governments in latin america. the method that the u. s. prefers to use in latin america today is similar to what we saw take place in eastern europe after the collapse of the soviet union with the various color revolution. and we can point to the guardian, but the violent protests in venezuela led by a new group that now comprises the one why do lead opposition? clearly us back trained by usa id and the national endowment for democracy in these tactics than we saw in 2018 in nicaragua. the same kind of scenario play out
12:21 pm
violent protests and blockade leaving hundreds dead. and the people who are leading it were being sponsored by the national endowment for democracy and usa id to drop all this off. listen to one us senator and former presidential candidate. pretty much giving instructions to the media on how to cover the tensions in cuba. give coverage to the fact that there are people in the street in cuba because they do not want to live and marxism and communism socialism any more, they want freedom. now here's a fact for you, despite the blockade. cuba was the 1st country in the whole region to successfully develop, not one but to coven vaccines, and has managed to domestically produce and vaccinate more than a quarter of the population with at least one dose while suffering a severe shortage in supplies from abroad. this probably still isn't enough to boost the public's confidence in the government and will do nothing to ease the poverty or slash food prices. what could have help though it's
12:22 pm
a bit of american mercy with the sanctions. oh no, there's no way he will touch the precious tool for democracy. meanwhile, members of the cuban diaspora across from the straits of florida and the city of miami have rallied in solid arity, demanding washington intervene, us white house press secretary gen saki believes the cuban government is responsible for the escalation. there is every indication that yesterday's protests or reactions of the people in cuba to exhaustion of the governance of the, of the leaders in the state, the economic mismanagement and the repression that we're seeing take place against the people of the country. having spent significant time in cuba during the special period, the harsh is period of sanctions and deprivation. i can tell you there is real
12:23 pm
suffering and there is real malays and it is brought about as a direct result of the u. s. embargo. so it was inevitable that there would be protests like this. we can see that people have genuine grievances, but that they are also being pulled into a regime change agenda by organizations like this, tennessee dro movement which have clear ties to the united states government. the trump administration ended the obama administration normalization with cuba, reimpose, brutal sanctions, not just on cuba, but on venezuela. blocking fuel shipments to cuba, the cuban government had to ration food starting in 2018. and now we have a pen demik where cuba has had to miraculously miraculously manufacture its own vaccine because of a needle shortage brought on by the u. s. blockade. now with key mid term and congress elections looming, the white house has made a strange you turn on. it's deeper into the police pledge as crime rate sore. the
12:24 pm
ruling democrats now want to shift the blame for slashing law enforcement budgets onto the republicans. as ortiz acres, don reports defend the police verses back the blue. these slogans turned into war banners in america's political. in fighting between the progressives and the conservatives, there was no fence to sit on for politicians, it was pick aside of, i'll go home. so as republicans went, defend, the democrats shows the fund many off absolutely suburbs, suburbs have essentially already begun pursuing a d funding up the police in that they fund school based on housing and the health care more as their number one priority in many cities in america. over one 3rd of their city budget goes to police. so we have to have this conversation. what are we doing? we meet clearly this man told me upload police department defendant. the police
12:25 pm
isn't radical, it's real. they pushed and pushed and pushed one by one police department, so the money flows run dry. it seemed like the dams were clear victors in this ideological clash. but then the crime figures came in and the democrats went eager to take the credit for their defending efforts, ensuring their specific guidance to communities across the country to ensure that they have funding to get more community police around the country. some might say that the other party was for the funding, the police a let others say that, but that's a piece jump saki, ladies and gentlemen, an honorary member of the international gas lighting association. the light was so blatant, even the washington post fact checkers, couldn't help awarding the white house press secretary with 3 pinocchio is to the tune. of course of republicans gloating. it's remarkable that the white house is now apparently employing comedians. that's like democrats saying they're the ones
12:26 pm
that want to build the wall. it's absurd. it's ridiculous. and there's a good enough reason the democrats on that proud of their it shipment in the funding, the police, the year to date murder rate, height, almost 17 percent across the u. s. on average in portland, which slashed 27000000 from the police budget. it stands at a whopping 533 percent austin. that took away almost $150000000.00 from the police departments has to deal with a 79 percent surge. and while correlation of course, in no way means causation, but will really few policemen on the streets actually improve the situation. so defining the police. sadly, it's a mindset that the politicians are using to leverage the angry mob that's out there and it's not going to turn out the way that they think it is. i mean, the police is not what people think. it's think it means, and it's actually
12:27 pm
a political tactic right now. sadly, anybody who really supports the defending the police move and they believe that the police are going to be arbitrary. i just removed off the street and that's not the case. to funding the police goes for programs, it goes for training, it goes for the sub is the on working within the department. and that's just gonna hurts the officers that are on the street now. and there's going to prevent them from doing their jobs properly for the citizens who still need them, regardless of whether or not they want them on the street. it's all political theater. if you can keep people constantly in a perpetual state of wonder, you're, it's, it, they're always creating a problem that they can solve. you reap what you sow, but in a dirty game of politics, nobody ever wants to own up to the lapses. and if the democrats want to keep their majority in congress, they'll need something more advanced than the republican bad formula. google is been slapped with a half a 1000000000 euro fined by francis on t trust watchdog. that's after the tech giant failed to comply with,
12:28 pm
the regulators orders over negotiating with local news outlets to use their content . and this is just one of the global battles that the multinational corporation now faces all the details. here's our team, peter oliver, 500000000 euros. it's a big chunk of change, even if you're a company like google, who it's estimated, is made around 46000000000 already in the 1st quarter of 2021. this is still one of those type of finds that they will fail. it's the largest find that google has faced in france. it see the 2nd largest find the french anti trust regulators of handed out to a single company ever. the reason that they've done it is that google was told that they had to come to some kind of fer agreement with publishers when it came to using news on their platforms. they didn't do that. they pretty much ignored it as far as what we,
12:29 pm
we can take from this. and that's the reason why they've been slapped with this 500000000 euro fine. the regulators say the size of the fine they've been given shows just how seriously they're taking it. when they're ready to decrease an obligation for a company, it must comply scrupulously both in the spirit and leisure of the decision here. this was unfortunately not the case. the sanction of 500000000 euros takes into account the exceptional seriousness of the breach of observed google for their part of said they're very disappointed with this decision and say that they were acting in good faith throughout which and pointed to the fact that they actually just come to an agreement with the french news agency, a f b to well use a s p stuff on their platforms and it included a global licensing agreement. now global life and thing that is incredibly important because this isn't just a french issue. french problem with google not sole google currently
12:30 pm
a facing law suits in 37 u. s. states over what is being called monopoly stick leverage that they have over the google app store on the android platform. a basically that google makes a bit of money out of every bit of money that's made by anyone using that platform lawsuits in those states in the us saying that's completely unfair. there's also been big issues in australia as well. well, earlier this year, back in february, the australian government put in place the ruling, the well, anybody who's one of these major tech giants like google, all facebook. if they were to use any news on that platforms, they had to pay for it that caused huge problems. so facebook pulled down old news in australia from their platforms. but what it does show is that the regulates, is all looking at these huge check giants and google, in particular that being pursued around the world when it comes to just how much power.
