really give them up so somebody either stuck a species in the cove. it you're living like the theme of own but in the 21st century. i the good evening and welcome to the coverage of the 2021 russian state elections from our new studio that overlooks the currently survey will be bringing your guests analysis and all the build up to 3 days of voting. when millions of russians will get to choose who they want, representing them in parliament. baton to join is going to be profiling the individual policies involved in the selection we'll hear from political expert to look forward to 1st. so let's take a quick look at what's been making use headlines around the world. starting with
2:01 pm
the british prime minister boris johnson, starting his much anticipated shake of the cabinet over in the u. k. the biggest change things, dominic ra, shifting from his job as foreign secretary and other news, natural gas prices of surged. so in all time record in europe now stand at $964.00 per 1000 cubic meters arriving by the hour. and it's smoking fears of a winter energy crisis found the u. s. secretary state is emitted, he's got no idea who was killed in a drug strike enough down this last month. you know, full assessment will be, will be for you don't know if it was in a worker or an ices k operative. i can't speak to that. i can't speak to that in a setting in any event. so you don't know or won't tell us. i don't, i don't know because we're doing it. plus the races, heating up as easy, rushes paul and the the election is just a few days away. now we're here to give you the full breakdown without special covering this out any day throughout the week.
2:02 pm
ah . so here it is, it's humble, but we like to call it home. it's our election rooftop studio, home for us, for the next few days in the heart of moscow, where we'll be following the campaign trail that leads to the lower house of russia's parliament. that's all coming up here in just a few minutes. stay with us 1st, i will look at new stories making today's headlines because it's all change of the heart of the british government. from mr. burse. johnson carried out a cabinet re shuffled. it's a shakeup that was long expected education secretary has gone sacked. the foreign secretary has been moved to the justice department with all the details on the shake up his alley. quite dramatic. re shuffled by bars johnson, the british prime minister. and the most notable perhaps of those re shuffles is
2:03 pm
dominick rob, who of course is or was should i say the foreign secretary, he's been demoted? and now dominic rob is the minister who was presiding or supposed to be presiding over the case strategic withdrawal from afghanistan. that was anything bob tail to tease. we thought couple airport last month, while all of that was going on in the color bonds and on couple dominate grub was on the holiday and didn't return to his post a decision which brought him great criticism and a lot of pressure on bar something to get rid of him and he is essentially been demoted to a lower position within the cabin to the pine. the situation in afghanistan was really heating up. the criticism was coming in for dominic rob from all corners of the political world. i think it's important for us to me, what we're doing and way of doing it from when did you were holding me through? i'm not looking to brush over this. i just wanted to know when you went things.
2:04 pm
when did you little, when in fact, on the surface this looks like a family of planning on, on grunz go. when was the last time a foreign minister went to a 2nd stop went to perspective. i'm not sure i'd have to check if you'd like to know the busiest, very have to come back to seems to take the reading because high come us was reason is better still ranging the evacuation of german people through tashkent and it seems to be a route that works really effectively from germany in terms of your own leadership, in your own actions. up until this point, did you ever, at any point consider offer to reside? now i consider getting home with the job, rob here, still quite an important character, important figure within the cabinet. he's the deputy prime minister. busy the chancellor and the justice secretary, so that move for him, but others perhaps haven't been as lucky. williamson well, that bucklin keller out of positions. but the chancellor re,
2:05 pm
she's so that he remains interestingly pretty to tell who is the home secretary, who still to claims on her job despite chris. and yet again, of her holding meetings with businessman and breaking the ministerial code, all of those allegations, not enough to bring pressure on board. so get rid of her just yet. anybody concerned about the winter heating bills will have an interest in this story because prices for natural gas in europe, the fit and all time record, currently $964.00 per 1000 cubic meters just for some context, that means the price is 20 percent in just a day and it's still on the way up. this is lining up a triple threat just as when to demands are about to kick in. the surging wholesale prices coinciding with lower levels of stored gas and the spec to rising fuel poverty, marty, corresponding, charlotte dubious case plants costs if you report that cost is expected. so people
2:06 pm
may have used more energy during the summer months, also locked down the costs. you could have impacted the amount of energy people use at home. we also know that they've been a problem with wind. energy. lo winds have not been able to create enough energy to the top of the deficits. and we know that you are paying companies have been tough competition over gas supplies with asian companies. all of it has seen that the energy tank reduced to water should be free. pandemic capacity was around 84 percent. it's currently standing way down. the 2nd one percent, all of if you continue to all over the eyes, you think gas supply from russia, as you may be aware, the stream to pipeline construction project completed last week and gas from the russian company has said it is ready to supply you with it's just
2:07 pm
a deficit immediately. it's ready to step up to the plate and do that. however, for the happen the, you have to to find that pipeline, they'll never suggestions of that could take some before that's ready to happen. we knew that some countries in europe already trying to take emergency measures to feel with crisis that there are into, to pay things over the winter months just around the corner. and this really could be the sort of another crisis fuel poverty is something the find some things that need householders to a pension or low income. do you often have to make a particularly tough decisions? do they have to stay warm for themselves? i families the children, or do they use teaching supplies to make food. it's an incredibly difficult position that many people have to take every year. some
2:08 pm
figures from european commission suggests that they're all between 15000000 and a 125000000 people across europe who are currently in the future call for the happens to make those decisions every year. so the idea that once again we could the prices increase now the storage, i think really will bring a lot of fear to those families who have been fairly struggling for life. you up us has been to winters facing is few crisis. we know that the question is now what other governments do and how will be european union react? and the critical shortage of wind power is also raising questions about an over reliance renewable energy from last year. foreign minister told us a broad energy mix is a safer approach. the fact that the wind is blowing and that the sun is shining less block that the gus inventory, so very low. all that,
2:09 pm
all together. great stuff. mix that on the one hand led to the increase in power prices. kinetic tricity, price and of course also natural gas prices. and on the other hand, as although the permanent lessons risk of power cuts your electricity, we definitely have tremendous rise. it's only like 40 percent of the poland digging of 4050 percent. so this effect of countries, other countries which for instance have an tricity based on nuclear like in france. i'm currently living the situation is different. that might not be such a price rise, but we really have to look at it from countries to countries. and again, in my eyes, it's not only about for i tried the real problem for many countries in particular in germany, where we already had several of the creation of
2:10 pm
a crappy and near power cut in lot in certain regions. this is a tremendous problem when his turn to afghan is done now because the u. s. sector stay claims, he simply doesn't know who was said in the recent american drones strike in the country. antony blinking was being grow for a 2nd consecutive day in the senate over that attack, which killed 10 civilians just brought to the west. the military pull out and cobble and run gas div has more. well, we much bear in mind, the highly partisan nature of american politics is what is the fact that ultimately may be very difficult about it can be defensive. the final weeks of us present here and have dentist on the evacuation, which, you know, many people see is, is but k arctic, as well as humiliate. will the united states look we were,
2:11 pm
we were here. we were put on the 5 weeks again, a v evacuation. we remember that the terror attacks that put everyone on it, the fear here, the anticipation that there could be more terror attack reputed drew's passing endlessly. and this guy's over capital again, watching for any potential threat to the apple. and in this case, given what we have learned, given the surveillance footage that was released, it may well be the instance of a g trigger. fingers of troops on the edge already fearing for their lives, as well as the drone operators. the generals are watching this, commanding this evacuation of the big, fearful about pulling the trigger too quickly. the guy, the biden administration droned, was he an aide worker or an isis k offered if the administration is, of course, reviewing that, that strike. and i'm sure that
2:12 pm
a full assessment will be, will be for you don't know if it was in a worker or an ices k operative. i can't speak to that and i can't speak to that in the setting in any event. so you don't know or won't tell us. i don't, i don't know because we're reviewing. we'll see it think you'd kind of know. but for you, off somebody with a predator drone with many people. see this valence look as it was published in the media reported to show in the area of the drum strike immediately before it took place, showing a man losing empty kindnesses into a comp time. this is a lapse may have been mistook by the drone of where it is by operating on the ground as filled with explosives. his speculation immediately after about the tombs price. perhaps there was a wrong turn of events because we've seen what help, what a top on the destruction it causes a cherry which will event packed with explosives. take down
2:13 pm
a 5 story building get here. we saw a mangled call yet, the more that it was next to was relatively dutch, which would it be impossible if the car would be even hot sealed with explosive. that, of course, we learned about the civilian casualties, collateral casualties. a child 1st that was revised the 6 children who is it'll be very difficult to account for these incense for this. for this drew strike and from what we've seen from the hearings ad blinking the state department and the by the administration completely prepared to do so. and the thing is, is there is blow back to that. i mean, i don't know if it's true, but i see these pictures of these beautiful children that were killed in the attack . if that's true and not propaganda, if that's true, guess what? maybe you created hundreds or thousands of new potential terrorists from bombing the wrong people, given the general sense that many believe the afghan mission sale that it was 20
2:14 pm
years of a about futile occupation. and given the fact that many republicans, he's on this opportunity, many of the families of those troops, us troops killed on the 26th of august in that terror attack on the north gate. the capital airport, as well as the relatives of the thousands of american troops injured and killed over the war and have get this done. it is unlikely that they will lead up the biden administration any time soon unless it offers alex's and provides accountability for what happened in the final weeks of american present here. and get this done. just joined us watching r t international. thanks so much on the way for you. we're going to launch into our russian parliamentary elections of coverage and holding up the safe in the country. states. coming up with a short break, the i
2:15 pm
is the biden presidency and terminal decline this administration handling of the cobra pandemic, the economy, and not least afghanistan sees this president underwater in the polls. and a big way in the country today is just as divided as a group from tennis president, things around when i was shot, the wrong one, all just don't the rules. yes, to shape out. the thing becomes the attitude and engagement equals the trail. when so many find themselves, well the part we choose to look for common ground

join me every thursday. i'm alex simon short and i'll be speaking to guess in the world, the politics sport. business. i'm show business. i'll see you then me the ah, the talk back to the very how to go and raise the teasing you about it this out. appreciate your patience. it's time now to dive in. coverage of the election to the say do with name the rushes lower house of parliament. so voting is coming up is going to be out over a period of 3 days. this time running from friday to sunday,
2:17 pm
answer the week are introducing you to the different parties in this race and giving you an insight into the world of russian politics. for now, let's take a quick look through how the whole election process works at the news. now here's an interesting developments. the election itself could be at risk from medlink. so my, so to the russian foreign ministry has some of the us ambassador over the issue. the civil russian top diplomat had to say about us because those facts will link to
2:18 pm
range of western platforms which have been refusing to remove forbidden content. certain facts were provided in the us ambassador. we sent him the data and is quite significant. we are waiting for response from us colleagues there said the internet sources and companies are independent of, but they do have to comply with russian moves. and we have grounds to believe the american government is not powerless on the look and say, live now to justin. robert young is the host of the politics, politics, politics podcast. really appreciate you coming on this evening. oh, the irony. so the some. bassett, a summit to the russian foreign ministry election interference is the allegation, how serious do you think this is? well, i mean in terms of the local russian politics and i will try not to unleash all of my knowledge on the duma elections coming up. but in terms of the regional impact
2:19 pm
of it, that would really be up to, to experts there. but as far as the american perspective is, this will not be a top priority for the biden administration to go to a tech companies like google and facebook and lay upon them any kind of mandates to remove or change content that's on their platform. that that's a fairly of forbidden line here in the states. and while it certainly can be permeated for various different reasons, up to and including local law enforcement and some kind of federal spy agency tracking. in general, it is frowned upon and when it is revealed to be in any way more constant than we as americans understand it, it tends to be a big scandal. so i don't think that biden will be using any kind of political capital or muscle to do any favors for russia, considering the strained relations. i mean,
2:20 pm
russia is going to push the spot, look of it. the rest is foreign minister said the us ambassador was provided with information that the claims western media platforms refused to remove content that is prohibited here in russia. so that the question is, why would those platforms ignore russia's request? well, they can ignore russia's requests at their own peril in terms of how they are operating locally in russia. right? that is really where the hammer that the russian government can drop. if you are not complying with local law, then you will face the consequences. and a lot of these companies have already seen restrictions that have been put on them in many countries in the middle east, in china, et cetera. so that is where russia really has power, where they don't really have much of an outlet, is to use the american federal government to try and pressure these companies to do anything that's going to be more of a one v one relationship of these outlets operating within the borders of russia,
2:21 pm
you said you don't think the, by the ministration is going to do much to, to, to influence the big, big tech companies here. i mean, this is slight speculation here, but in your opinion, given that america claims that russia tried to influence elections, that do you think that could be a sense here of which is going to turn a blind eye blind eye to this if there's interference, this is payback on the same on the other side of the same coin. no. is it not hypocrisy if that was the case? well, i mean, i'll answer your, your 1st questionnaire 1st and then we can go through the rest of them. if i were seating the reasons why or the the cause is that i believe that by an administration would immediately go forth and do something. a very, very, very low on that list would be anything to do with rush. you're considering that the biden rhetoric has been very clear that russia and china are these ideological
2:22 pm
enemies for which democracy you will will overcome past. that being said, i don't think necessarily that there is much of a sense from any realistic politic angle that this would be a payback toward russia and interference, largely because the issues that are being brought up are, i think, very much a, an issue locally in russia. that doesn't even really resonate with the american electorate, and that's alternately what moves the needle with any kind of american political conversation. another issue that i think would be a discussion. the influence that big tech companies now have when it comes to political concerns. we sorted with twitter binding president trump from, from his account, but essentially silencing him at the time. if big tech platforms can have such an
2:23 pm
influence on political discussion, what people can access in terms of information or not is not something that needs some serious sitting down and talking about. certainly it is a massive conversation here in america. there's something that continues to do be very passionately fought one way or the other. but the question locally here in the us is, what is that line? is the idea that these private companies, even as they become more and more influential? when do they cross the line to the point where they need to be regulated? and that is on a variety of factors, including monopolistic ideas which is very popular on the left side. and in terms of not banning what, what conservatives believe is, and of one sided ideological purge, because the vast majority of people that are running these platforms are based in very liberal areas and often staffed with very liberal people. so while that is an ongoing conversation here, i don't think that at least at this point, we have seen
2:24 pm
a political will amongst the populace to say that the government needs to step in and regulate this, which is obviously where the solution would likely wind up the just the really appreciate your perspective. thanks for joining me on our team. just robert young, my guest host of the politics, politics, politics, podcast. thank you. ok, let's get cracking now onto our analysis of all the parties. the hoping voters will be putting a tick in that box for the russian elections, and not russia considered the defense ruling party, the largest in the country. the chairman of it is the former prime minister dmitri madrid of the party. supposed the program of the president and among his goals is strengthening russia's sovereignty is he can only program include support for domestic industry that includes high tech, which we just talking in russia. the current majority party took more than half of
2:25 pm
the votes in the last election. will it be able to maintain those numbers this time round the liberty and can look at what the new ballot could mean? they are the ruling party. they are the favorites. always pretty much they are the party which 5 years ago, set a record by winning 344 seats out of 450. but how well united russia fair in this year's election, at some point, any long standing champion inevitably faces a career way, 2 months before the vote support for the party dropped to 27 percent, didn't get that low in 13 years, many have called. busy it a crisis of trust. it required swift, daring, sometimes surprise moves, party leader dmitri mate vetted was removed as one of its top 5 candidates. the light up is now a mix of political behemoths who enjoy huge public support and new names who won
2:26 pm
the people's respect. like the countries beating cova, dr. ah, the, the a recent opinion poll showed 95 percent of those questioned recognized rushes minister of defense survey showing you. so if counting on how familiar the most important faces of the party are, was part of the plan. the tactic is beginning to work. lot of our food, though, isn't on the list and isn't even a member of united russia officially, but the president has long been associated with the party and even let it for a while. in the past, he's been talking of the immense responsibility that united russia has to bear as the ruling party. you sure you want to reiterate my position?
2:27 pm
that is one thing to write something that is rights and important and toward a beautifully. and it is another thing to implemented you and i are aware that the ruling political party is responsible for everything and all the country's problems . that's what you have acted responsibly so far. and the program has turned out to be quite feasible. united russia proud the calls. busy it's manifesto the people's program. it was put together after considering online suggestions from $2000000.00 russian citizens. the main goal is to boost the public's quality of life with special attention to healing the direct and indirect effect of the pandemic. ah, so like i said, united russia isn't going through the easiest of times. serious blows to the

parties, reputation have included criminal charges. and in some cases, jail terms for mayor's governor's cabinet ministers even who had to be kicked out of united russia for fraud and corruption. in some cases lately, however, the party was left red faced because some of its senior members simply forgot about decent matters. seen more reminiscent of a dog owner playing with his boot. where certainly unseemly for a governor given the keys from new fire trucks to a brigade. well, soon after that the official lost his job party membership and definitely lost united russia support in his region. but it still remains the most popular political force in the country. yes, it's scheme to take advantage of the experience and trust behind some old school. big names like mr. lab, rob and mr roy gu, but on like a stagnating bureaucracy, the party is ready to count on fresh faces. it's ready for reform and it's trying
2:29 pm
to get as many russians as possible involved in its decisions using contemporary online methods. so that wraps it up from our election headquarters, the de salarous disorder, anchors for responding sylvia right through the remaining campaign days prior to the voting and of course, bringing those all important results on monday morning for now though, that's it for me, they really appreciate you staying with the feral north east, around if you can, i'll be back off and i was time with all talk global news updates and more about state duma election, special coverage live for moscow without ah, [000:00:00;00]

the oh right now there are 2000000000 people who are overweight or obese. it's profitable to sell food that is trinity and sugary and faulty and addicted. not at the individual level. it's not individual willpower. and if we go on believing that will never change as obesity epidemic. that industry has been influencing very deeply. the medical and scientific establishment ah, what driving the obesity epidemic. it's corporate, me
