[000:00:00;00] ah ah, as canada's freedom convoy prepares to enter a 3rd week of protest, the ontario government tries to freeze access to another fundraising platform where the movement has raised a nearly $5000000.00 of jewel m t m school. i am disappointed that we seem to have a dialogue between a meet and a death person. top russian and british diplomats appeared to have found no common ground on regional security concerns amid escalating tensions over ukraine. as they met for urgent to talk in moscow. and mainstream media has gone into overdrive in their reporting of alleged doping by

a 15 year old russian figure skater. that's despite the international olympic committee warning, it's pure speculation with broadcasting lot of direct, more studios in moscow. this is our international. i'm john thomas. certainly glad to have you with us. now as protests, paralyzing canada's capital city move into a 3rd week. officials are looking at ways to deter support. the government is trying to freeze access to another fundraising platform where freedom convoy 2022 has already raised nearly $5000000.00 for protesters. ortiz correspondent john hardy reports on the latest from ottawa for like a dance party than better protest right now. i mean, to be honest with you, which has really been the case over the last few days. look auto. a police say that
8:02 pm
the situation is volatile. the protestors here the truckers determined if one thing is true, it's that the supporters of this protest and those that are here are determined they're determined for their voices and their demands to be heard as far as volatility. ah, we know that police have made some arrest, but overall it's been a very like over the weekend, there were balancing hassles here and there are families coming here. i described it as almost like a winter carnival type festival. that's really been what it's like a lot of music. there's going to be a rapper routing here in a short time. so that's been the overall vibe. but the point of the protest is basically it started with truckers converging upon the city here. january 28th in iowa. are fighting against mandatory vaccinations. for the trucking industry, it's really morphed into a much greater protest over canada's coven 19 restrictions. and now a pretty fiery and intense debate about canada's freedom of speech. freedom of assembly, freedom of protest,
8:03 pm
rules and policies. on that in mind. it's also an extraordinary situation for police while they've stepped up. enforcement measures issuing more tickets, making some arrest, mostly people that are drunk and disorderly for what they call mischief. ah, there's a very difficult situation. and how do you get all these trucks? hundreds of big rigs with trailers. how do you move them out of the city? if they have no plans on leaving local tow truck companies have said you're not using us. we have to work with these guys. we don't want to be seen doing this. and somebody even told me we stand in support of these truckers. so it's a very, very difficult situation for police. in fact, one, calgary police officer said it should be in there. there's a fine line between policing and politics. what is happening in ottawa, with the clear political influence on the police, physically exert political will on peaceful protesters for nothing more than
8:04 pm
possible political gain is so very wrong on so many levels. i was just following orders is no longer an excuse. it is time to stand up and speak out by refusing to preach your fellow citizens fundamental charter rights. you signed up to help people stand with your fellow canadians and say enough is enough and luck. the majority of the protesters will talk to and we've talked to many including trackers say i have really maintain that this is a peaceful protest. in fact, we heard a little while ago. there are a groups of police coming in here. and we heard one of the organizer saying, give them a wide berth fox, we don't want to do anything, they're just doing their jobs, respect them, let's not try to intimidate then there's more of us. then there are of them and relate that to the point. this has been a massive protest over the weekend. thousands of people here. it's a little bit scale down. we're seeing hundreds of people, but none the less supporters men, women, children, continue to come here from all over the country. but none the less that said
8:05 pm
protesters maintain. this is a peaceful organization. it's a peaceful demonstration. still, canadian officials, including the prime minister and other federal and local officials, have lambasted the ongoing movement, the ongoing protest, and the pastor protesters including one auto, a city council member. here's what he, she had to say. kurney referred to it as sedition today. i think that's exactly what it is. this is theresa. really an insurrection? it's a, it's an attack on our democracy. it's an attack on our federal government. the so called freedom convoy, protests began when a convoy of trucks converged upon and rolled into ottawa, canada's capital city. january 28th and 29th protesting mandatory vaccination rules for the trucking industry for truckers. but since ben, it's morphed into a much greater political debate and fight over coven 19 restrictions country wide. and it's also sparked
8:06 pm
a fiery political debate about canada's freedom of speech. freedom of protest and freedom of assembly laws. we stayed focused on following the science on her promoting public health rules and canadians stepped up in their communities. they stepped up for the front line health workers. they stepped up for each other and canada has been never been so strong and together as we are now again to protesters here the supporters maintain that this is about their rights. you hear the word freedom out there a lot and they continue to contend this is a peaceful organization of people and we have seen families coming here over the weekend. there were bouncy, castles, there are cook out. so obviously it would be in bad form for the police to come in here like gang busters, and try to take all of that down. and also they say that this is a movement that, or at least a protest that has garnered national attention. certainly protest across the country,
8:07 pm
even internationally. we've seen similar convoys in the united kingdom and france and australia, new zealand. we're also hearing about chatter and talk about something similar potentially happening in the united states. a convoy maybe even stretching from california, going to washington d. c. possibly disrupting the super bowl or even president joe biden state of the union speech on march 1st. that remains to be seen. but one thing is very clear. this protest continues here on the ground, in ottawa and other parts of canada. the blockade has caused a major disruption to the supply chains of major car companies, such as ford and toyota as demonstrations bring port supplying us border states along with michigan to a standstill, including north dakota and montana. cut off from canada by an anti vaccine mandate protest. now approaching 15 days. but as official accusations of insurrection and
8:08 pm
even treason fly in their direction, one trucker stressed to us the support, the protest has received from the people of ottawa. from what i gather, the majority of the residents of auto that i have spoken to personally are overwhelmingly in support of us being here. many, many auto residents have walked up and down the street pass my truck. many have stopped to talk to me and like 99 percent is not hire of them all. thank us for being here. they support us. they ask if we need anything. we're well fed. we have lots of fuel, a nice lady that lives just down the road, came to me a few days ago. asked if i needed anything. and i said, well, i could do some laundry being done. so she took all my laundry, went home washed, it bolted it and returned it the next day. it's things like that that are happening
8:09 pm
throughout every day is just overwhelming kayla underwriting a supporter of the freedom. a convoy protests says people will stay and rally. 5 until their freedoms are restored, think it would have been a, a per practical convoy if it wasn't disrupting things. i think that's the point of the convoy so that it encourages the powers that be to make rash and very quick. this is decision and, and not sit there and avoid the, the issue. and yes, it is going to disrupt things in this put more pressure. everyone knows that if you have, you have the right to protest and you have a right to protest peacefully. this comes down to where we waited 2 years to have a plan in place to have our voices heard by speaking with our elected officials. and it fell on deaf ears and because of that, it has take it. it has to take a lot for canadians to have to drive from coast to coast into ottawa to have their voices heard. and that's why they bout to stay there until they lift the mandates of these restrictions that are,
8:10 pm
are faced and restore the canadians rates and freedoms. we have a charter of rights and freedoms that should be protect it. and unfortunately, our government has, has taken advantage of that pandemic, and that's why they're there to stay there until they are restored. the situation in canada has inspired a similar movement in france, where large convoys were blocked from moving into the capital by police. the protesters set out from southern france and had planned to converge on paris and brussels, or cheese sharla, davinsky reports. bullock not yet arrived in paris, but the plan is for these convoys that are coming from across the country to descend on the capital over the weekend. but before they've even had chance to do that, the authorities here in paris have said that any protests over the weekend will be strictly forbidden. the idea some have said is for them to try and power lies. the city parish,
8:11 pm
though is ready to stop them and has put bidden any of the rallies from taking place. due to the risk that this gathering could disrupt the public order. the police department has decided to prohibit such demonstrations from friday, february 11th, 2022 through monday, february 14th, 2022 just like their counterparts in canada. these so called freedom convoys are he to protect against the cobra, $900.00 restrictions, but their demands are also extending beyond that. and they're asking for more money to be spent on public services and also for them to be the citizens referendum initiative. which would mean that individuals who be able to vote on issues across the country as and when they turn up, they say that that would be to, into a more secure form of democracy. what the trying to do is to capitalize will not movement at the moment which resource dot in canada, but it's now spread across the rest of the world. we're supporting the freedom
8:12 pm
convoy. we're so glad to see this happening in canada and now in europe in the world, we're here to support all of those who are speaking out in support of our freedom. so when i had to do my duty during the locked down, i went to work and i caught coven there. i was one of the heroes back then. but now i'm not even treated like a citizen. i don't understand how we went from that side to this one. these convoys at the moment heading towards paris where they say they are still in tending, despite the fact that it's been banned, to hold those rallies in the capital. but you thirty's have said that they could be severe fines and even prison sentences handed out to anybody, particularly the organizes if they break that bond on the protests over the weekend . but the plan is to come to paris and then to head to brussels for monday. will we know that convoys of the countries in europe are also heading into the belgium capital? once again, to show their protests that anger against these coven 19 restrictions. and the question now many may be asking,
8:13 pm
given that there is this overlap with some of the demand with what we saw from the yellow vests over the last few years as to whether this is the new convoy, the new protest, the could really wreck havoc don't just here in france, but actually could extend now to other countries in europe, te independent journalist, lucre. they told us that if politicians don't listen, this could turn into another vast yellow vested style movement, and effect the outcome of abels presidential vote. the government jo, my home care stiff of having a repeat of what we live through the she show the yellow face period. you know, they're afraid of it because it is not only the cold, it situation and the fact that people are fed up with these restrictions. it's also the price of gas, which was the origin of the yellow. it's the cost of life, which is crazy. is the inflation that makes it,
8:14 pm
that people get poor very quickly. and so this could mean havoc for government to key fear off of missouri. my whole it is that with the elections in tomorrow, you could have the opposition attacking and surfing on the discontent of the people to really oust miss you my home. dice wired to power placing from is very scared because of the election campaign, which is all fully now. russia's foreign minister says concerns expressed to british counterpart lives trust fell on deaf ears as the 2 met in moscow to discuss rising tensions over ukraine and the case threat to impose, quote, the toughest sanctions against russia, or she's done quarter picks up the story for us those julian, tim, still i am disappointed that we seem to have dialogue between a mute and a deaf person. they seem to be listening, but don't hare. almost detailed explanations have fallen on rough ground. they say
8:15 pm
that russia is waiting for the soil to freeze and become like a stone so that tanks can pass safely into ukrainian territory. it seems that our british colleagues have the same soul to day, from which numerous facts that we cited of bounced. few people, if any, would call thursday's meeting, a productive one. at the top of the agenda, of course, were the proposals for security guarantees that moscow had put forward back in mid december. the main point of contention being that russia's asking nato not to move any farther eastward, specifically into the countries of georgia and specifically here ukraine. this is something that washington and nato have refused to do. and at the press conference lab, rob said that the west is negotiating exclusively on nato centric terms, and that they're unwilling to compromise. and simply that rush has been cheated for years when it comes to its national security and with relation to nato. now this also comes as the western media continues to carry out its campaign of hysteria around a legit plans for
8:16 pm
a russian invasion of ukraine. this is something that lavish, again, reiterated what moscow has said time and time again, that it has no plans to invade anyone, it simply doesn't want ukraine to become a member state of nato. now on that point, leverage also said that keith has become actually a geopolitical pawn and a western dame to destabilize russia. let's take a listen. what he said to demolition up with them. okay, you're gam. apparently, a western colleagues need president zalinski only as a tool to pull russia out of balance. none seem interested in what he thinks negative consequences from oldest hysteria are impacting ukraine's economy in the national budget city of steel to see at the studio. now, as for trust, she said that her goal in moscow was to make as much progress as possible for a diplomatic solution. but right from the get go, she started accusing russia of being aggressive and of trying to undermine what she called ukrainian democracy. most shocking of all though, is that she demanded that russia prove that it's not being aggressive. talk about
8:17 pm
guilty until proven innocent minister lateral has said to me to day that russia have no plans to invade ukraine. we need to see those words followed up by actions, is vitally important that the u. k. and it's nato allies, all prepared for all event humanities. oliver of also commented on a specific narrative of the west's anti russia. hysteria. specific story that's been going around the media claiming that russia has some concrete plans to lay siege to ukrainian cities, set up a puppet government, and even set up camps for disloyal ukrainians. use speak with superficial with you through their speculation, even in some respects, media about some suppose it operation that we're preparing to cease kids and all the other cities of ukraine will that some kind of qu, is being prepared to install a puppet regime in the ukrainian capital, all this is from the narrative of so called highly likelihood, but there's
8:18 pm
a city credit delay. it's also important to keep in mind that for some time now the u. k. has been supplying ukraine with some heavy weapons just last month, a shipment of n law anti tank missile systems landed in ukraine and as early as wednesday, we actually saw another shipment of anti tank missiles systems for fall into the hands of the ukrainian military. now while the u. k says that these are purely for defensive purposes, who knows what these weapons could be used for once they're in the hands of the ukrainian military, especially after a meeting like this one. britton's tom diplomat appeared to be in need of geography lesson. during her talks with lever av reportedly confusing to russian regions with 2 in neighboring ukraine. you do recognize russia sovereignty over the rust of foreigners regions. don't you? the united kingdom will never recognise russian sovereignty over those regions. those regions have always been unquestionably part of russia. a fact that seemingly confused the you case foreign secretary. but despite trust,
8:19 pm
apparently apologizing for the mistake, it sparked a wave of criticism on the internet. many saying it was and becoming for the case, highest ranking diplomat to make such a blunder. some wondered how she could go into such talks and not even know the names of the regions she would be discussing. former british home office minister norman baker explained it to my colleague, dan hawkins. that all of this kept nato's 5 waves of expansion. she's not going to get, i mean, that's the reality of it. she's brought to the new in the post and not somebody pointed out to try to do so. but looking at the whole situation a deeply on elbow, she wasn't probably afraid to scenes. we've got the situation on the ground where bother. you can us dolly of the rhetoric, but also going to to, to a 100000 russian troops on the board of what reason we don't know. so i don't think it's like, and this was our credit to be the moment. do you think that mosque has become increasingly frustrated?
8:20 pm
it feel that it's being driven into a corner perhaps with what's going on? i think an object to view of the, of the ration development specially recent over the last 1020 years has been clearly that countries were pretty, was associated with them. so in union have one after the other become members of nature or the geography of the area. clearly you created extremely close to incentives, which is extra russia next to others. so i can understand why in the sentence as much as my field threatened by that equally, it has to be said, however, that you end up a situation where to to, to be adopting a rather health style style. optimistic reasons. so both sides, prior to the moment of periods of interest in driving the rhetoric by the world, the interested in both sides need to back down a bit. meanwhile, as the top diplomats were trying to maintain peace in moscow, british prime minister boys johnson met with the head of nato in brussels as the u

. k. plans to boost its military presence in eastern europe. martinez shut edwards dusty reports, even though british officials are wanting russia to stop the cold war rhetoric. it seems the more of what is really happening in the west between nato and indeed, boris johnson in joint press conference earlier today, the number of russian forces is going up. the warning time for a possible attack is going down. this is probably the most dangerous moment i would say, and then in the course of the next few days in what is the biggest security crisis that europe is safe for for decades. and today i've agreed with the secretary general, a package of support sending troops, planes, and ships to defend nato from north side, 350 troops to poland. already there's a 100 in the country, and a 1000 more troops to be made available to nato. so troops already on the move and
8:22 pm
the prime minister certainly didn't rule out sending even more if a need when be on the eastern front. he also says 30 has offer further support in the united kingdom are ready to then provide with support. meanwhile, of the nato secretary general, he's considering the possibility of moving even into romania, putting troops in romania, particularly near the black sea and looking to increase its presence in poland. we know far as johnson is now in part and talking to leaders that are about the situation too, but it's not just boots on the ground. there's also talks of sanctions. of course, the government now says it's ready to publish a legislation on possible russian sanctions that includes new powers to talk to individuals or entities the link to the russian states. and the government seems to think that they can become a law without any parliamentary approval or even any scrutiny. so it certainly feels like the tension on the rise all the while. of course,
8:23 pm
it's important to reiterate. the russia has always denied any vision of an invasion of ukraine. so in terms of boris johnson been on the one hand, he speaks of d escalating and that the move towards diplomacy is all about talking. we know he's sending delegates to moscow on the other hand, far as johnson in the united kingdom are committing to sending troops to the region and even have the economic sanctions as well. there is an anxious wait for a response from the international olympic committee regarding media claims of doping in the russian figure skating team in its daily morning briefing on thursday, the io see called those reports pure speculation stressing it won't comment while a probe is ongoing. over whether teams getting sensation, camilla volume ever failed to drugs test 2 months ago, across developments for us in beijing is ortiz, alexi, arge has the only official information. all right, the official comments we've heard so far came from the spokesperson of the i o. c.

mark. adam said he explicitly said that this was a legal case and even addressing a direct question about whether this was a doping case or doping allegation, he said that for now everything doping related remains purely a speculation. the room was have it that the i figure k to in question is camila oliva of r o c team, who was absolutely stella on the ice last weekend, winning gold with the russian figure skating team. but for the 1st time in a limbic gangs history, the metal ceremony has now been postponed for almost 4 days now. and this is of course, causing a lot of speculation. we also heard from the spokesperson off the russian figure skating union, who told us that camille of oliva was not suspended from the participation at these olympic games in beijing. she will continue but dissipating yet moreover,
8:25 pm
by eva herself. a 15 year old skate i took to the ice this morning in a training session, which is already a good sign, but we've already been receiving wards of support for camila oliva in this very difficult situation. camila believe as program at the european championships made me want to short program to be a little longer. what a wonderful skater if her performance didn't inspire the whole world to take up figure skating? i don't know. what would the talk of the town and i spoke to both ex figure skaters, and journalists and experts available at the venue that this may be already delivering a very serious stole psychologically on the russian ice figure, skating team and the whole r o c olympic team. in general, for instance, i can only assume this is related, but during the male figure skating performance this morning, all 3 of our o c's status failed during that performance says it's not something you see every day when all members of the team mess off their performances so it might be the case off the team already going through
8:26 pm
a very serious psychological situation. yeah, but of course we are anxiously waiting for any statement from the i o. c. this situation is expected to be result during this day. and of course, i'll be keeping you updated with all the news in beijing as soon as i get it. although it's still unclear what precise legal issues delayed the metal ceremony for the russian figure, skaters, american news broadcaster seen and named and shamed the athlete at the center of the issue. despite any official ruling seen, it has learned that a russian figure skater has failed a drug test, and that person is a minor russian olympic athlete, supposedly tested positive as am i supposed to be surprised? now cnn broadcast, lay of, of name and her photo, along with the accusations and other mainstream media outlets followed suit headlines made sure to link the youngsters name with doping. despite nothing, having been confirmed,
8:27 pm
extra attention was paid to leave us returned to training at the olympic facilities . legal and media analyst line all says the way cnn handled the coverages, despicable. you watch this and i don't suggest anybody does. but if you want to see absolutely the most biased a unconfirmed speculation. first of all, she's a minor and the last i check one of the reasons for the a legit secrecy to protect a 15 year old and we know everything. we know this traumatize the we know the drug, we know her name. oh but, but by the way, she's a minor to imagine the pressure of anybody to be the olympics. imagine then be 15 years old, but imagine that you are right now in the, the, the cross hairs of this media microscope. and you theoretically, haven't been accused of anything. it's almost as though, and i merely speculating because after all,

see it and love speculation. so i'm going to speculate, it's almost like saying, listen, if you enjoy your time here speaking on behalf of say, the, this olympic event. it would really behoove you to say as much as you can to insinuate to imply to basically in p own and, and indict russia based on nothing. let's face it, they have found russia guilty by virtue of some body of evidence. we have not been made privy to. it's despicable that is it for me this hour? i will be back and let's say $31.00 and a half minutes with another phone. fresh look at your new stay with us. our international ah and the democratic republic of congo is among the richest countries in the world and natural resources, but he can normally,
