6:00 pm
ah ah, breaking news in the latest act of censorship against media. the e. u targets are teens parent company with another round of sanctions. ordering a freeze of the companies that, that in europe a terror attack on russia, humanitarian office, and the central african republic. leave the head of mission seriously wounded, but the russian and indian leaders discuss bilateral ties over the phone following media. rumors that the indian pm back out of a meeting with vladimir putin, which the kremlin dismissed as a misunderstanding. ah
6:01 pm
. hello from our to international studios in moscow, and for wherever you are. welcome to this hours. most vital news stories worldwide i'm fuel is about we start with breaking news. the e. u is tightening the screws on media freedom. a new sanctions package is freezing our teas, european assets, in an effort to censor criticisms from russian media. i discuss the latest updates with our team, marina cassava, poor. this is now the nines package of sanctions and they're supposed to be hard heading as the european union has called them. and basically what we're seeing with our t's that they're sanctioning, our parent company are not to be novice the in europe. so basically brussels is season funds and acids belonging to our c as well as some other over channels. and not only that, they also want to make sure that there are no funds or economic resources made
6:02 pm
available to them whether it's directly or indirectly. and this not only affects entities, but also people associated with the company. this is what's interesting. and also another aspect to this is that there are more russian channels being sanctioned as well. some of them have just one news broadcast every day, for example. and what else do we know about this latest round of e u sanctions? well, it's a huge list of not only people being sanctioned, but also different industries. so for example, we have now the latest, the number is up there. 1386 people who are sanctioned in total and 171 organizations and they're really wants to make sure that it, it hits russia where it hurts according to them. so for example, there are really target thing. the ross has military industrial complex. they're looking at export restriction when it comes to technologies that contributes rushes,
6:03 pm
military takes abilities and also its ability to work on certain technologies. they're trying to, we can russia when it comes to its military. there is also and other and the energy sector, for example, no new investments can be made by a foreign companies within rushes energy sector. there's also a v, a sion and for example, more banks have been added. and what's interesting, they're cutting rushes access to drones. so not only is the direct exports of drone engines now forbidden to russia to other countries that may circumvent this. and then for example, through other countries, exports it to ross so, so that's also not allowed. so this is a multifaceted attack on russia. absolutely. and through different industries, but particularly the military industrial complex, this is what they're really focusing on. and they want to make sure that russia is weekends on the battle ground. and some experts have already come out and set it.
6:04 pm
for example, with the freezing of the assets when it comes to our table clearly what they've done so far by binding the channel on to for example, that hasn't worked. we know that there was a pole in germany recently where people that still want to watch and still find ways to watch it and you and i know that you can watch r t not just on satellite tv, but you can go online and people have been posting lots of videos, so that's what they're not happy with. and they're trying to make sure that it's shut down by cutting any funds that are made available to r t or any ways in which russia concert convent the sanctions and is remaining up and running. that and also the military aspect is very important. that's what they're trying to do to weaken it. but also the same time, this is what we're talking about. the european union has been saying all along that it's all for freedom of speech. well, this doesn't look very much like freedom of speech when you're trying to completely shut down the other angle of the story. from our,
6:05 pm
we're joined by host of the whistle blowers, john, curiosity and john are rushes, no stranger to sanctions. but what do you make of the latest sanctions on our parent company, including the freezing of its assets? i think the easiest answer is this just goes to show you the hypocrisy that we see every day here in the united states and in the european union as well. you know, even before the conflict with ukraine began, the washington post, which is one of the major newspapers of record here in the united states, complained about a show that i was doing on sputnik radio called a criminal of over i forget the name of it. now anyway, was about it was about criminal justice reform, criminal injustice is what it was called. and i, what we would talk about is, is problems in the american criminal justice system. we would talk about sentencing reform and, and crooked cops and things like that. and they said that the show was weakening
6:06 pm
our democracy. those were the exact words that they were using. so washington feels threatened by information they feel threatened by opposing views. and the easiest thing to do is just to cut those views off. the european union is exactly the same way they're threatened by an alternative view of this conflict in ukraine. frankly, i'm surprised it took them this long now, as you pointed out, fiorella and thank goodness that this is the case r t is still available to the people who want to watch it. and what do you think that this asset freeze means for the future of our can europe though? yes, yes, a freeze is going to hurt because oftentimes these asset freezes last for decades. you know that the united states, for example, throws iranian assets in 1979, and they're still frozen. we froze afghan assets in 1996 and they're still
6:07 pm
frozen. so this could actually hurt even we're, we're the conflict to come to an end through a negotiated peace settlement. that's not to say that either the united states or the european union would unfreeze russian assets or lift sanctions. and there's been so much pushback and, and different people speaking out against the us state department narrative. but what do you make of the timing of these sanctions? i mean, why now? well, i think the whole reason why there are new sanctions. this is the 9th round of sanctions, is because these earlier 8 rounds of sanctions aren't working. you know, this is, this is a problem with american policy and it's a problem that goes back decades back to the late 19 fifties or early 19 sixty's with the original sanctions against fidel castro's cuba. it's that sanctions just simply don't work. you could ask, you know, fidel castro, where he alive, you could ask saddam hussein where he alive if sanctions had any impact at all on
6:08 pm
their countries. and the answer is no. sanctions hurt though the citizens who are the most vulnerable sanctions hit food, they hit fertilizers, they hit spare parts, they hit medicines, so it, they, it doesn't harm the government. it harms the poorest people, the working people, those who need help the most. and all that does is turn them against the united states. i've never believed in sanctions, and i don't think anybody else should either. while the e u has tried to justify it, sanctions by claiming that r t spreads this information, propaganda, et cetera. so is this really about fighting the so called propaganda, or could it be seen as the crackdown on media freedom? oh, i think it's absolutely a crack down on media freedom. it's this, it's for the same reason that there's no r t america anymore. it's the same reason why you can't find r t on pluto tv or on youtube or on any of the streaming services i used to watch
6:09 pm
r t every single day. on my phone with with pluto tv, it used to stream 24 hours a day. those days are gone and it has nothing to do with clamping down on dis information. you know, where i read about these sanctions. fiorella, i read about them on the website of radio, free europe, radio, liberty, which is the american propaganda network. and why do you think this issue of what they call russian propaganda remains such a hot topic for the you when they clearly have enough of their own issues to deal with? yes, they clearly do. and i think, i think frankly that the european union is watching developments in the united states. people here in the us are beginning to turn against this, this unlimited amount of money and unlimited material and weapons and weapons systems that the american government is sending to ukraine. there's a big split in the republican party and the republicans are taking control of the
6:10 pm
house of representatives on january 3rd. so i think that the administration here in washington is influencing the european union and the european commission to try to tighten sanctions while they still can, i think come january 3rd, it's going to be a lot tougher to tighten sanctions, at least from the us side. and a lot tougher to continue providing money and weapons and materiel to ukraine. and obviously, in the current era, we're in that is sell tumultuous. do you expect any western journalists to question or even criticize this asset phrase? no, frankly, no, i don't. you know, this is something that i look for in the mainstream media, literally every single day. as soon as i wake up in the morning, i read the washington post the new york times the wall street journal and the los angeles times. then i go to cnn, when i finish those, i go to the alternative media and the independent media, and the,
6:11 pm
the mainstream media, the so called newspapers of record. and the vaunted cnn. they are towing the ukrainian line. they're towing the biden administration's line that ukraine is a freedom loving and freedom fighting a pro western democracy that is fighting right wing fascism coming from moscow. that's, you know, you hear that every single day in the american media. and it's gotten to the point where many americans believe it. well, the republicans at least, and i'm not even a republican, i'm just saying this as an observer. the republicans at least are saying, look, we don't care who the good guys are or the bad guys are in this conflict. the point is we're sending billions and billions of dollars to a country that has consistently been at the top of the united nations list of the most corrupt countries on earth. and we really need to give this policy
6:12 pm
a 2nd thought. whistleblowers house john kerry alco. thank you, john. thank you. on the very same day, the e u. targeted russian media, the german foreign ministry, that freedom of the press cannot be switched off, commenting on the suspension of the twitter accounts of several us journalists. freedom of the press must not be switched on and off at will. as of today, the journalists below can no longer follow comment or criticize us. we have a problem with that. twitter has suspended the accounts of around half a dozen journalists, including reporters from the new york times, washington post and cnn. while the company, c, o, e on must accuse them of safety regulation violations. us media are few me at the move to not suspension of the twitter account of a number of prominent journalists including the new york times. ryan mac is
6:13 pm
questionable at unfortunate, neither at times nor ryan have received any explanation about why this occurred. we hope that all of these journalists accounts are reinstated, and the twitter provides a satisfying explanation for this action. last night car carrying little x in olay was followed by a crazy stalker thinking it was me to lay to blocked car from moving and climbs on to hood. any accounts ducks in real time location info of any one will be suspended as it is a physical safety violation. this includes posting links to sites with real time location info. well, have you looked into the details? there is a lot of outrage coming from democrats mostly at this point and they are upset about. 8 back that these accounts have been suspended. these journalists have had their accounts taken down. they say this is simply a case of retaliation. this is an attempt to silence critics of the last alarm mosque on the other hand says that
6:14 pm
a car that his child was in was stalked out. he's concerned about his personal safety and docs thing. what's worth noting is the hypocrisy that we're seeing here. some voices that have been quite in favor of tech censorship before are now speaking up in pretty loud terms. so take a o. c, for example. you're a public figure, an extremely controversial and powerful one. i get feeling unsafe, but descending until the use of palla plus erratically. banning gen less only increases the intensity round. you take a beat and nail, the protestation maybe try pitting down your phone. that's quite heated language. we're hearing from a o. c. there pro tow fascism she's quite fired up, but in the past we've heard a o. c herself calling for more media censorship. then in addition to that i o. c has been sued for blocking her critics and preventing her critics from being able to challenge her on social media. ah,
6:15 pm
now it's also worth reviewing the role played by cnn's brian's delta i, he's been a voice that is very outspoken. now again, still on moms. here's what he said. who knows? i think that's a, that's a, that's an example of a broader question for twitter, which is, if you are, if you get invited to something where there are no rules, were there is total freedom over everybody. do you actually want to go to that party for or you decide to stay home? so that was brian's del dirt sounding about his concern that alon mazda would not engage in enough censorship. there wouldn't be enough shutting down of certain views. but now that certain views have been shut down in these journalists have been suspended. ah, he's speaking up and referring to alon moscow's tyrant, and that seems to be the way these voices are framing that they're seeing alon mosque as a tyrant. he's a tyrannical ceo using his power to shut down critics, but they didn't speak the same way about jack dorsey. and jack dorsey was running
6:16 pm
twitter and silencing many conservatives and other critics of the status quo of they defended him. they didn't speak of him in the same language and terms, and let's review how they spoke of jack dorsey compared to how they now speak of a law mosque is relevant for a private company can make the own independent decisions in line with that published terms of service so i don't know what happened to him, but if he'll a muscle doesn't fix this within the hour with an explanation by morning. i'll be on capitol hill to morrow demanding that he behold in front of congress. now let's recall when donald trump was still the president of the united states, after the january 6 events was banned from social media. there didn't seem to be a huge flurry of outrage about that. the fact that a sitting president was being silenced by a major social media app. ah, however, this recent round of the dance is got the european union wang and getting it's
6:17 pm
opinion. here's what we heard from the european union. news about arbitrary suspension of journalists and twitter is worrying is digital services act requires respective media, freedom and from mental rights. this is reinforced under our media freedom act. elan mosque should be aware of that. the red red lines, and sanction soon, the media of freedom act. talk about freedom of speech and suppression of freedom of the press. what about the fact? european union has blocked and shut down russia media outlets r. t has been silent by the european union for quite a few months. we've seen suppression of rush and media outlets across the country and by the you itself. so the hypocrisy of all of the very, very easy to detect here are very selected outrage. these folks were calling for all kinds of tech censorship,
6:18 pm
but now that alon mot someone doesn't seem to be in their camp, is the one making the rules. they're crying foul and screaming about tyranny and suppression. it's worth noting how these things are playing out. to other news now, the head of russia's humanitarian mission in the central african republic is being treated in the hospital after a parcel bomb exploded in his hands. we've obtained this exclusive footage from the crime scene. we're local investigators are now 15 through forensic evidence. the african republic police have called the incident a terror attack. the russian humanitarian official dimitry 50, opened the explosive package right in his office. moscow's foreign ministry has slammed the attack. we strongly condemn this criminal act, which is clearly aimed against activities of the russian house in bungie, and more broadly against the successful development of friendly relations between our 2 countries. images from the office also show
6:19 pm
a note left on the table. it's written in russia and says, this is for you from all the french. now, the french foreign minister has denied allegations of involvement in the bombing, the russian businessman and co founder of the wagner's military group says this note came with the package and echoes similar threats. in the past. on november 11th, dmitri city received a package from togo with a photograph of a son who lives in france. it contained a note saying that next time he would get the head of his son. if the russians do not get out of the african continent and open the doors for the french today, he got another package. despite all the instructions for observing security measures. dmitri city, being in an emotional state, opens in the parcel. there was an explosion before losing consciousness. dmitri seated managed to say that he saw a note saying, this is for you from all the french, the russians will get out of africa. among the things that we know is that unless
6:20 pm
somebody goshen has as lobby russian foreign ministry to launch an investigation into this particular incident. but he also goes further to say that he would like to see france in particular being declared as they'd sponsor of hara by the russian federation. from what we do know, the puzzle itself was sent from low may the capital city of toll. it was also delivered by the h l. this is what we understand from our reliable sources on the ground in, in central african republic. but i thought it was very interesting. the statement that emanated from the russian foreign ministry, and our as myself, in whose interest it would be to carry out this kind of a tag. and what we do know is that mister 38 dmitri settee, that is, has long been in the central african republic, and from about 2019, he has been
6:21 pm
a moderator in the conflict. the ongoing conflict between the central african republics authorities as well as the many reb. busy groups in that country, the country itself has really been in the midst of, of instability since the civil war that occurred in 2019, despite the former colonizer france, deploying some 1600 troops to that country, to restore peace and stabilize some of the conflicts we have seen in that region there has been systematically and over a long period of time, tension between north and south which have led to some of the conflicts that we have seen. and the area itself that the central african republic is around the sa hell region, which has really been dealing with insurgency for the better part of the decades.
6:22 pm
and it remains a political and conflict hot bed in the african region. the administrator of the russian humanitarian mission in the central african republic has called the bombing an attempt to hinder, he's making efforts in the country by 60, by seeing if i am, but mostly there isn't any good in what happened. i know dmitri, he works to the benefit of peace in the central african republic. he works around the clock for the betterment of our society, those who want to bring chaos and make our country vulnerable to everything, to stop our society, achieving peace locals. no, dmitri, everybody knows him. people ask us how dmitri feels, and i can assure you that our hearts and thoughts are now with him. we hope he gets better soon. we need his help in our work to bring peace to the country. we hope state and law enforcement will conduct a proper investigation and punish those responsible for the attack. these people are enemies of the central african republic. we count on our government and those
6:23 pm
ready to assist us to pay the way for peace. many thanks to those who have been asking about demetrius condition, we hope he will recover as soon as possible. thank you. russian president vladimir putin has held a phone call with the indian prime minister to discuss the 2 countries bilateral relationship, including trade and energy cooperation that stays after the russian foreign ministry called reports that modi had refused to me. putting a simple quote, misunderstanding our cheese room june sharma has more listen thought it is a serious telephone conversation of a dream premonition or into more the antecedent. vladimir putin of visio for the 1st time. they spoke on 24th of february, when the conflict had begun. after that, twice in march, off then on 1st of july, and then to the 16th of december. but to do this conversation, in fact, as a follow up of their rock in person meeting,

which happened on the sidelines of the se. will summit. in a summer gunther are now as far as the indian read out is concerned, are it sees that prime minister no more? the breathed president dub law, the mayor fulton on india's ongoing presidency of g 20, highlighting the key priorities for india are, but also looked to afford to both god visa a walking to the other during india, zach chair. ship of the if you are also as far as the 2 leaders like himself, the reviewed are there bilateral relationship on several, a spec saw of the p 3 key areas being god, of course freed. and no g as well as the defense saw are. but it's interesting because this news, arkansas diaz, off jaw rob, they were talk so feminist in at angel moore, the not traveling to moscow. the c o for the and one in the are russia from it. and of course, so in that sense, this conversation becomes very important,
6:25 pm
very critical of the 2 leaders in fact have agreed to remain in regular touch. who is he to assess our relations with russia? that's what turkey as president is asking, as he slams the youth foreign policy chief for questioning on chorus ties with moscow. it's an ugly statement. burrell can't define and formalize our relations with russia. he has neither the qualifications, no, the ability to make such decisions. who is he to assess our relations with russia, with respect to sanctions? or the one lashed out at the you official while speaking to reporters on his return from a trip to turkmenistan. adding that joseph morale has no right to try and interfere in relations between on car and moscow, or the one also underlying diplomatic protocol. stressing that bore out should only

be addressing foreign ministers and not presidents like the turkish leader. we discuss a story with a foreign news editor at 3 kids have a tv. when you look at them to see when you have to hire a key between the international institutions, you know that are more of like the chief would not actually refer or to see or initiate any kind of movement about the position of the president at the end of the may, this is going to be the position off the coordination. so if you're t one, they go on and be alive. everyone, you know, find a middle place in which turkey tries to do while, when will continue to do it is going to happen. he did in fact initiate. 9 brain deal, they didn't try to become a great fit speaking direct and russia,
