solidarity with ukraine even though what is happening to us is more terrible. so why do they stand against russia? but stand with israel, that him was buried not far from his home. he used to work at a bakery and would started for an his daily morning walk to work, was through this cemetery, as well as on the day of his death, william adam adam, merely what happened to adam was a cold blooded execution. teenagers of 1415 and 16 years old. they're all gone. i'm scared that my son or any other young man in the camp would go through this. at the cemetery, we met a family of another boy from the camp who was killed last here. when the army stormed his house and the rest of his brother, omar followed them and threatened to destroy a 27 soldier battalion if they dont release his sibling. he was shot with 4 bullets and died on this pot. his brother is in jail now. my son died, standing out for himself, he stood up for his homeland. he stood up face family. he stood up for his brother,

7:35 am
what do you know about russia? i mean really know about this place. hi, i'm sean, and when i came to this country, 13 years ago, i was lost in a land of expectations and the stereotypes and really i didn't know anything. what i discovered here was a place with deep culture and rich heritage and amazing people who had amazing stories to share. our goal is to make real connections with extraordinary people and those with global ideas and talents that we can all benefit from. and then quite simply give these hidden gems a platform to share their humanity with us. so we came here to news, you know, got to speak to hockey. legend got a lot on us. now, you might be thinking hockey,
7:36 am
it doesn't get much more stereotypical, then russia and hockey. but what if i told you hockey was more than just a sport? maybe even an art or deeply philosophical ego. latinos nickname is the professor. and we came to ask him, why, when you have at the, at all, we have wiped out all. i want everything, the hockey national for the game is incredible. it's all about creativity. so again, should be for everybody. when a blind believe join, i took his hands in mine and asked him to imagine that his palms with his feet. and that's mine is what matters a little later. so i sedation want to be a normal and the going to be back. hello. hi sean, how are you doing? well, i'm sure you got a lot of, you know, thank you very mb for having us here and showing us your facility and letting us kind of into your life to see what you do here. so tell me about that. a little bit
7:37 am
that you are incredibly successful man of the world. you have one amazing achievements in hockey. but yet you come here to nearly no good to take on a team that is not necessarily at the top of his game, not, not the best of the best. what's your philosophy and what are your goals? well, let me start with the truck is, i know you mentioned they want everything the hockey except to one. got i got some that's the team. i was like in this shortly ahead obviously. but the challenge behind my hiring for these circle up and decision to come to the city because of that, the tradition of the church all these flop and the, and the history of the this team and also diligence. you can see who played a for the georgia. so since 1946. and that to me this down kind of remind me of detroit to because of the auto industry and the blue color
7:38 am
people in fats and the passion for the game is incredible. so that's that the young team, and i would say it's a lot of efforts to make this kind of projects successful because we got the s i'm young talented players. so this has been kind of rejected from they are for and up in like the last 2345 years and they're trying to develop, they know, trying to buy, they know we're trying to develop whatever we have and trying to build a club, which is able to compete against the top teams in the league and, and the bring that trophy to usually so i've heard you say that hockey is like feeder, in fact, even going as far as saying that this type of the game brings people into the stands. it's like a good play for actors and of course, freezing here. but in this idea is hockey less of a sport in more theatrics? well, you know what the for, if you want to go in the global stage and,
7:39 am
and bring the younger generation of france and the people. now you gotta do something special for them. so, in terms of develop the players, develop the game and make the game attractive. to the young jewish in the fans and families to come and enjoy the show. so because there was a game of like, it's a game you know, and i tell to players, you know, that when you have a piano, so what do you do? what do you do your company at all? or you play piano hockey, the work you play, that's what the game is all about. they gave us all about creativity, it's all about the values. and we put that on this wall, additions and accountability, creativity and the unity. so that's, it's all about the team. it's all about be successful altogether so old in, in all out. so that's them. that's what we're trying to build. and they're trying to built is going to take some time, but they're not gonna take too much time because of that, the season,
7:40 am
a flight experimental because of that more than that, i station her on the blog. so, and we're trying to use every detail to make this happen, like a nice way to talk to me a little bit more about this philosophy of your team. i can see ambitions here, and you mentioned creativity, but also you have read a lot about stoicism. is that the right type of a philosophy for what's happening right now in the world? and also how does that help build a team? well that's, that's the, that's the plan. that's the plan like a to, to tell the boys know what it is and what will happen to know old. so we part of this kind of the whole ship station, you know, but you know, the players in the city, the country, the fans, and also a lot people around the country. so watch in our team because of that. and we, what we can do, we can, we can play hockey or we can do anything else. are the players, you know,
7:41 am
they play in the game to play the game. they have to give like a 100 percent effort to, to give that hope and, you know, and kind of like a diplomacy wise, they could do some stuff on dice and i'll do bring some joy, bring some excitement like surprise, our school, which is so i be the graduates goals and greatest system there. great play and then the courage also. so that's the, that's the plan. that's the plan like a to ring the team together, bring the players together, have a goal and altogether try it. i called there's this kind of role law on the lawn like american season. cool. let's see what else we can find here, right? a so i'm excited to be in this place. we'll get to where we are in a 2nd. but 1st,
7:42 am
can you talk to me about hockey, i q. what is it, and can it be improved like regular intelligence? well, how to me, it is a hockey player form a hockey player. the coach is so high q a. i would say it's a number one priority to have on the team player knows the game, who knows like how to make the decision or in the game, what given the line give the boys and had to make the right decision. so that's very important. so that we tried to kind of agree some drill show that during the practices, so the players when they got their limits at that time and then the small area. so you, you got to read the game. you gotta, what's gonna happen, what's gonna the next move next, play or next decision making. so that's the,
7:43 am
that's the key. so, and that for the players like a separate from the good to the great, because when they got some like a highest i q, when do you have, when did they unpredictable? so that's what that takes the game to the next level and also appreciate you some appreciation for defense to, to see little detail in the game. she's going to make a big difference in terms ofa. knew the game right past the right goal and the recitation. when you use this guy was like i q, u r or are known to have been part of the red machine. and the name itself implies that it's one group of people working together as one team to make it happen. teamwork is what it comes down to. but right now we're living in an era of super starts like sydney crosby of yet can malkin for you. what's more interesting, developing a team working together, or, or kind of raising that next new star that can pull the game along?
7:44 am
well, it's how i would say you gotta have individual like personalities. you know, so the players we can make a big difference. so but, but the main goal for, for individuals to play the team game. so, you know, and we told the boys that we got the number one, sorry for the game as a team. and for my own experience to have a high quality players and to high i q players that want to play the team game. so give yourself that you like so many options for you to be successful. so that's what we create on the team. we want to have like a nice game history between smart players and, and the players who can they can see down the road. so going to make a huge difference and, and they've got some young players who was making the fewer steps towards that kind of understanding of the, of the game. i can't really rush it so, but you can be patient because of that, how you got it from your safe. but that when you see really in play by young
7:45 am
players, so basically you gotta encourage them to keep doing that. you mentioned, if you see a 1000000000 play by a really player, you have to encourage them. how do you as a coach, spot talent? and how do you find the player to come here? you know what it's, it's, it's really a good question because i know, you know, obviously you got the stats and the reports and the from the scouts and the about, but you got to see the player in the, in the action. so that's what i like to do, and i want to see like, what we'll just player can bring to the see what, what it will display or can make that you'll be fail during his practice or the game. and you can see if you see like things like go doing quick and smart than the in the right time. so you can develop the dictate, you can get more out of this player when you get a little freedom to go through mistakes in there and gray, some place sometimes mistakes or sometimes like interceptions sometimes to your
7:46 am
numbers. but you know what the young players are. they have to express themselves and they got to give them a chance like to do that. continuing to develop your skills and get better, it's essential for any elite athlete. and for you sato that is even more the case. he picked up his entire life and moved from japan to russia to train with the best . for 1st of all, thanks for coming out to me. thank you. so yeah, you moved here from japan, picked up your life. is it just so that you can train with the elite the best of the best, or is there some other motivation happening here? yeah, it's k l is the best in the order in for, for she's here. she became the head coach of to atlanta. and i said yeah, of course i played it for this. im is hoping what is the next step for you?
7:47 am
i mean what, where do you see your career going? you want to play for the any child you want to stay in the cage. oh, what, what is your goal obviously playing as well as my drink? well, my dream and the 1st of all i want to play in k show what i got. and yeah, i think of japan. i don't really think of hockey as one of the major exports. is japan big on hockey? and do you think that your example here can bring other young players to make hockey something more strong? yeah, and then of course i, one of the examples for young kids in a family like i want to prove a japanese player can play this leading. yeah. okay, so we're talking about the environment of a player is being important for their development. talk to me and tell me more about that idea. well, well, when you, when you have a young player in the hands,
7:48 am
so you know, you've got to get my kind of welcome to feel like a comfortable and you said why urban? so because the young players say usual, they got off a shy and, and if you see, if you see the talent, you got to surround the salad, the right people, especially people that experience who can help because the coaches, you know, we can talk, we can, we can guide them and we can give some a whole different advisors, but the same the same time experience players who's been amazing who's been in the base within the locker room. so that's where you want to have like the right environment. so because the young players are benefits from that to have around like later on. so who's been around for many years and then we can go kind of tell them or show some details. she's very important you are developing. what about the idea of inclusivity is hockey and inclusive sport? i mean, i know that playing at the most elite levels, you have to be
7:49 am
a top physical condition. but are there opportunities for people who might not have too many alternative abilities? let's say is, is hockey inclusive? well, it's, it's a difficult question to answer so, but i guess in my mind, so a game should be for everybody and all the girls and the boys and, and as i try candidates, it's a game which i, you know, bring to the game of how i could bring some my joy and the expectations al, so kind of relief when you know, what do you, what do you in school when you are able to amish repairs here when you go from my work to the ice rink to play the game. so it's kind of like therapy, so when you enjoyed the game and kind of like a couple doors, those thoughts, our side and then just go enjoy. so basically it's again for everybody
7:50 am
with for, for thank you for having us out here. it's really cool to watch these kids train so for these kids is hockey more of therapy, or is it also a sport for them as well? it's different for every child to, for some of them, it's therapy, others as plan to a big future in sports. each case is unique, some of the kids are already testing themselves against adults. well continuing to train with you sites. the rest continue the development. it really depends on each case and the day melody. this kids deal with pain and suffering in many cases on different levels every single day. but hockey is known to be
7:51 am
a very physical sport, demanding it can be painful and sometimes dangerous. is that not a worry for these kids? not killer boys for well like any sport, no one's immune to injury. jimmy ma'am. however, the emotional satisfaction and thrilled that they get on the ice outweighs everything on our new streaming service. if i it, of course no one wants to be injured. we'll say that i'm in law jim, you mean, but you just have to be prepared. a lot of would get all because it's sport. so these kids, they deal with pain on a daily basis as we've already talked about. oh, but for every athlete there's a motivation, what drives these kids to get up every day and come to the ice and do something so physical or vegetable? some of these kids will have a future in adult sledge, hockey. i knew that i would say at the both or others hold it's just an opportunity to smile, to feel happy. i say forgetting because when they come here,
7:52 am
they forget about the pain and their limitations on a venue for spoke with you. a pre 8 given year last, not just a sports club for them. it's a family where there is a place where we get together to train sex if we join into club competitions. but i'm a bit according to the middle, is what many of these kids live for to the point that they can't imagine their life without sledge hockey association of your search vega, put into the nor sledge hockey is a very unique sport. i'm, you know, in your experience of any of these kids who gone on to a bigger level, i understand that there is a national sledge hockey team as well. and then maybe, you know, of any cases of people who have overcome their disability and even been able to go on to pay professional hockey in the n h l, or cave jo, back at me. but i knew that we're still a really the young organization eclipse lucia nicely. but we've only been training children for 3 years. so nothing like that has happened here yet. when idea then,
7:53 am
but i know that it has happened in canada. for example. bobby shifted to a case his, when sled hockey players who had one leg were able to play ice hockey with able bodied athletes using a custom made prosthetic leg. i knew that that's why we were starting new groups now adaptive ice hockey for children with autism. it will be regular, vertical ice, hockey, and snow birds. we currently signing kids up for that group now in the berlin that they gave the link that you did, then there will be a new ice hockey group. the people who are visually impaired by leslie. boy, when a blind bully joined, we wanted him to get a feel for the ice 1st. he touched the rink as the board, the glass in the net, so he could get his bearings and put him in. i took his hands in mine, i did, and asked him to imagine that his palms were his feet. but ali oregon. yes, now i moved his hands to show him how to skate when he tried to copy the movement with his legs, is a notify me that boy hadn't unforgettable and emotional experience. he was thrilled beyond words having fulfill needs them. however, it was difficult, of course,
7:54 am
as he'd never skated before and he was exhausted. ross times wasn't looking for that. there was a smile on his face. no. oh, through the training session, la. inside that smile is what matters and i will also be when i've touched on this a little bit in our conversations off camera. but i right now we're an incredibly politically driven times where politics are affecting sports in a checking the players in sports. i do think that this is a problem. is this going to be bad for all sports in general or and what can we do to move past it? you know what he or you can i you can luca in this situation. i got a 2 year from angles, so there's nothing much i can do right now. we just, there are, you know, we play in the game in our and there are, when you, you are kind of like a situation that going to give you some like a isolation from the international hockey. so you still gotta do what are you into
7:55 am
best. you know, you can enjoy the game, you can develop, you can work on different details, and then is the same time just hope for later solicitation going to be a normal and you going to be back. so that's that. you know, that's what we can do this or we can do it because we got to get in every game we got full house, i got 5500 people are watching the game. and those people come into that, you know, to watch a game and forget about the travel. so you got about what's going on. i was out of this building, so i just gotta give it back to them. and they just kind of like any artist, go into the theater and on the stage so we don't know what they doing behind stage, but what they do in the station was the portal. so that's why all the boys just go out and, and show, show you best. and they give some, i hope, and they give some joy for their own people who came to the gates. now you're called the professor and i'm just an observer. is there anything that i may have
7:56 am
forgotten to ask anything that you think it's important for people to know about what you do, your philosophy or just life in general? well, i'm not sure if i can give some guidance or what's your last year. i would recommend or something like that, but you know what? when you do your job when you come to your work in place, i come to school, come to. hi corinne, come to the tennis court. i'm to college, come to go anywhere. so you gotta, you gotta enjoy when you're doing so you're obviously you, you can have a lot of excuses. i like about the weather, about the politics about this, about that. but you've got to enjoy the life you gotta enjoy. you got to watch what you do and you gotta do like a, a good corpus. and that's what you do like it. thank you for taking the time, but appreciate it very much. thank you. educational and very, very impressive. thank you very much. thank you.
