12:30 pm
i said that there is a loss of slots on the tire size in the us. it has to be all on the talk to you a, you know, i like a nice work about the, the pretty good, you know, his wife and up as full body. and we'll try to the an action is a lot of the office, a policies, all practice is the close the violation of these one kind of policy all once on the policy. so that's the issue. danger is a to follow with is a relationship between the 2 companies that houses the funds on the us policy on. so i, i changed from one of the engagement. it's a lot of continuous us. this is basically launching a new cold war is trying to make sure that i have never develop as late as the us old household asked us because they us, the bill basically refused to recognize,
12:31 pm
you know, the changes of the world they do. they pulled a moment is gone and gone forever. and there is a model color uh, reality. i used to use the model of the old fine i the washer the roost office. you know, the heads of your ladies that the, the dislike of the us practice of the definitely. but example the are reducing their realize only us dollar. that's the fall way. the classic example of people using class in washington a. so he's amazing, he's doing the same so that the quantities of that city, the problem and because of the us uh, i guess you need to meet to the expertise because of the on time that he says and him is so the on now watching id is one question using kind of one of the people taiwan as well, and the base of aging is the page is confused about the bill. i find as in,
12:32 pm
say, the see john at the hong kong and now the are using this one question based on his interest. so that's the to danger of the world today, at least in the asia pacific region, while in single port political, alice and senior fellow at the pango institution sion dos you thank you very much. thank you for having me. and that's her up and all for me for the latest freaking news and updates head over to r t dot com and be sure to follow us on social media. thanks for tuning in and don't go too far. my colleague, nicky aaron will be taking over at the top of the hour the alright sanchez, i've been doing news now for 30 years to languages all over the world. here in the united states interviewed for us. presidents co founded
12:33 pm
a $1000000000.00 business. i believe. news should be honest and direct kind of pets . and this is the way to start with something really fascinating because finally, it's happened. you know, the lives, the exaggerations, the fabricated lives that exist on social media. well, they've reached a new level. we all know that nowadays people use social media to create a reality that doesn't really exist, right. for example, the guy who takes up photo and r. busy as royce, even though he actually drives a 10 year old toyota, for the young woman who makes it seem like she is a multi millionaire is travelling all over the world on private plains. when in
12:34 pm
reality she had to take out a loan just to pay the photographer, but that picture, these are the images that we see on social media is the ones that we've almost come to expect representing dishonesty. but imagine now imagine if someone did the same thing to become a congressman, a congressman, and possibly the most important government in the world. well, you don't have to imagine this, okay? because it's happened possibly never before and the history of the united states has there been a bigger liar than a guy named george santos. santos is a brazilian immigrant lives in new york ran for congress every year. 7 and then journal and started asking questions to try and better understand how he won, and what they discovered has become the scandal of the year in the united states.
12:35 pm
okay, i want to start with this image. what you're looking at right there. yeah, that is the new us congressman in his i guess other life when he dressed up as a woman and called himself guitar, a robot che, so me guitar rubacheck. but that's not the only identity santos is used. they also call themselves anthony developer. and they also claims to be someone named dombrowski. and let's start there once and tell us, realize that many of us voters in his district were jewish, reinvented himself as a joe. and he went from synagogue to set a dod declaring his faith. i'm going to congress to deliver on the american dream to fight against b. b. s. to fight against anti semitism to fight against iran to make sure
12:36 pm
to make sure that we don't engage in an iran nuclear gear. and matter of fact, we hold, i ran accountable to j. c. po, a was a failure of the binding administration of the obama administration bite. and same thing. hey, look, that's a good story, right? look at it. looks like he belongs. the problem is the story isn't true. santos is not jewish. he also claimed to be a multi millionaire and the owner of many, many properties all throughout new york in the northeast truth. he actually shares an apartment with his sister. he said he graduated from new york university university says they have no record of him. he said he was a champion, volleyball player, volleyball, also not true. a check for the university never played on the volleyball team. he
12:37 pm
said he worked on main street as a financial manager for the world's largest companies, goldman sachs, and sit in corps. when reporters called goldman sachs and the city core, they said george, cool. but possibly the worst lie of all is the one that he fabricated about his mother. he said that she was dead and died because she was in the world trade center during the 911 attack. reality is his mother wasn't even in the united states during the $911.00 attack. she was in brazil where the police were looking for her son george at the time for stealing from one of her clients. so who is this guy who is george santos? george santos. is a guest anthony developer. a young man like many others who live a life of fantasy on social media where they try to convince the world. but they're important and wealthy. george santos or jorge santos. copying that strategy
12:38 pm
and became a congressman. and that one entire country it seems, is asking. what does the case of george santos really say about us? right. how do we get here? and we also have to ask is santos the only one in government who is lying and what's the difference? here's a question. what's the difference between santos and president reagan light about weapons to a ron and the hidden money for wars and central america, president clinton lied about his relationship with monica lewinsky in the white house. president nixon who lied about the famous water gate case. president johnson . he'll be jay who lied about the warranty at mom. those lies more or less important. suddenly we ask them santos. as last and joining us now is uh at barton he is
12:39 pm
a ford and former chair of the missouri uh republican party. uh ad. thanks so much for joining us. a great to meet with you direct. thank you. what are you, may i have this guy? well look, i mean in politics even at the highest levels. uh, there are some characters, right? i, i joke with people that uh, when someone says to me, so, and so is on our system stored egomaniac. i'm like at that level, it's like saying that the guy that plays back up short stop for the st. louis cardinals has a good arm. everybody's at that level a bit. maladjusted. that's how this game is. so i'm a little surprised that santos got through the process without more scrutiny. right . that's when i was chairman of the party or you know, as chairman of the missouri republican party, i sat on the r n. c. the republican national committee. yeah. you watch these kinda, these, these meet grinders a primaries and a politics. they usually expose this stuff earlier. and you know, these a 34 year old guy? no, no, no, no, nobody saying, i mean my god,
12:40 pm
this is yeah. yeah. what, what, what do you make up? there's a couple of things that i want to ask you about in terms of his choices. because obviously there's a lot of lives out there, but some of them i think, are more meaningful than others. what about the fact that even use this named the ruskie, the name that he made up for? yeah. which was as opposed to the family name of his grandparents or ancestors as they were running away from the nazis in europe during world war 2. what do you make of that? yeah, i mean, well, you know, yeah, i have to be careful how i say this because i don't want to sound there all glib. but there are certain things you can do and, and, and say in politics that will get you a certain amount of attention. you know, yeah. and, and being a being, i'm a white guy from long island. you know who this, that is. the thing is in politics because you aren't using it. yeah. it's boring. writing this is name is someone exotic and you're talking about your jewish this. i
12:41 pm
mean, you know, and, and people are saying, you know, the, i've so, but again, i mean, what's crazy about this is what the rightness of the clique, like i tell people, rick, when people come to me, say i want to run for office. i had a guy yesterday says he wants to run for us senate. i say the 1st question to ask yourself is not if you can afford to be in office, if your job will let you, it's whether you can afford to do it in terms of your family in terms of your life . yeah. because they're going to look at everything, especially if you're a republican in my experience. but there's a certain, there's a certain amount of valium element to his lies, which may be like, for example, oh, what a coincidence is family happens to be from? wait for it. wait for it. you claim. yeah. what's he doing? what do you know? what you were telling me that he's not good at this is really right. he's very good at it. and as you point out, you know, the idea of what he was, even i think he's catholic. so he's talking to the catholics about being catholic.
12:42 pm
you saw the jewish speaking about jesus, i mean, again, what makes me be crazy? is it a sanctimony of these other people, you know, warm up the river up the across the way blumenthal as a senator, having lied about being in vietnam like i'm in or significant specific. well, i but know that you're right about it. it's kind of matthew valley, i saw a piece written recently, rick, that his generation 30 years old. he kind of rides the wave of attention. and that's the truth, right? the attention is the truth, not the truth. and again, he did it pretty darn well. so in other words, what you just said there is interesting, you're saying look guys like this, it's all, it's all of a saw. it's about how they appear on instagram and how they appear on the dock and how they appear on the facebook. the rest, the reality doesn't matter. it's just the picture you put up for the world. yeah. and you know, rick, in 2010 i ran for congress and, and i remember the experience where you can describe your life to people when you're talking about running, right. this is 2010, and you're saying, you know,
12:43 pm
i was a young lawyer. i worked for the church, i was a young and you try to explain it and you're yeah, you're selling, right? you're selling in the you want to talk about the things that are instead of on the, on more work for the church. i say, john hall, the 2nd you know, pick me to work for a month is a bad, it can, okay, is a good story. sam toes as you say he's, it's a different thing. you're not doing a brochure, you're doing instagram, you're doing a tick tock and, and in a way that you just pointed out he, he's like, like beta testing and real time, things that work for a little bit of the crowd, a little bit of the crowd, a little bit of the crowd and i, i, i have to agree. he doesn't seem devastated. he seems kind of good to talk it i, i think that's what i'm sorry. i didn't mean to jump on. you were here, but if you are going to say it looks like he's enjoying it. i think he is, or i think he has to look at the other part of this. i mean, your dad and my dad would kick go as an example because you know, you're look what they're doing. your family may look what you've done. you're
12:44 pm
dishonoring us. he thinks the fact that he's followed by cameras makes him elvis. right. exactly. right. and again, we've created his culture, right? we haven't, it's not happening in a vacuum. he didn't come up with himself, right. so the real, quite the real question becomes, you know, here's one other thing i love, the sanctimony of this guy is in the, in the house a junior member of the house, a new guy has no power. no, i mean, it was just the majority. so maybe you can go in and beg the speaker to let them do something. these guys have no power at, you know, the, the senate has power no matter who you are. yeah. the house, if you're the speaker, so it's not like he's got his finger on the nuclear football here and all the rest, the more interesting question to me is, what is it sort of, what is he talking about as you say, what are the issues he's talking about because a lot of these younger folks have been more libertarian on issues more, you know, we're talking off the air less in the neo con vision, it's hard to see of santo's is kind of, he's just, it's like the uh,
12:45 pm
the incredible mr. ripley. lucky you just play in the whole game the whole time. does he? yeah, good, good. good. like like he thinks right now, it's probably cool to be a conservative and he's got a better chance of winning as a conservative tomorrow he could snap and go the other way. that's why i mean, the whole, the whole name change thing. i mean, what is he? he's he's, he's a de brodsky. he's a anthony devolve or he is george santos. but when he dresses like a woman, he's guitar. oh, i mean, yeah, i can't make this stuff up. i mean, i know you told me you said rick, never changed your name. would you be dressed like a woman? just stick with what you the, i don't i, i don't know what again, you know, as a, the strangest part of this is how as a party leader in my state for example, what have had people looking at this? and someone will be looking at this picture, let's put, let's put the picture up. we got a picture of him as guitar here. here he is as guitar. uh, uh it's, i mean, and uh, you know, good looking products that shot, i guess, uh, what,
12:46 pm
what did you look, you're a guy like me, i grew up a catholic, you know, with the church and you know, the whole 9 yards and still do by the way say bonaventure over here in broward. um what, what do you think when you see a member of congress and you look at this guy as katara? i mean, what? well look, i mean 1st of all, what did i say about, oh yeah, yeah. well, i mean, one thing for i, i'm a little less judge mental, i'm not, i'm certainly not a libertarian in terms of politics, but i, i kind of think, uh, you know, the joke. someone said, is everybody's a basket case. just gotta find out how, right? i mean, we're all, we all are broken. we all have our problems. yeah. i also kind of say to people when i was with the the late fil a slap. well, you know, this iconic, conservative leader, when one of her eagles came up to her and said, phyllis, how can you back, trump, you know, he's been married 3 times. he says he's that. and she said, we're, we're electing a present. not a pastor. i mean, i, if, if you and i report and we know this personally,
12:47 pm
if we went through the number of members of congress or the us senate, or de, fully flaw disturbingly so, and said from all out that be like, 8 guys up there and gals, right. doing business. so i, i look, i think one of the reasons why the media loves the story is santos is, is software and point. right. it's not just that he was, you know, he's not p rose. he didn't have a gambling problem, right? he's dressing a little bit, right. i mean, it's a lot more flamboyant than the usual stable of republican since, you know, i mean, it's, uh, but i, again, i think if you, i hate to say this the wrong way. if you went into everybody's closet, you know, i think there's quite a few that have some wild times and you know, as you say, what does it say that where we are both, that it happened that he ran and that he, what we're talking about it. so much right? yeah. oh yeah, yes i see on a bass should lying. it's just the yeah, i'm just going to make it up but the bigger the lie, the better and it's not going to matter. i mean, he had to know that if he won, eventually people would find out as, as we go, because i want to do 2 parts to this conversation with you. one is, you know,
12:48 pm
we've got to cover the george santos stuff and his name changes and all that stuff . but then i want to talk a little bit about what it means to america. what, what, what that says about us and, and whether he's the only real line guy out there who happens to be in congress. but there's another part of the name game that i was thinking about that i want to do address with you and me, you know, i'm up the, you know, so not just a catholic, but i'm all that they know catholic so that when he finally had to go with a name. he didn't want to go over. he didn't though with the boss, came off. yeah. yeah. i went with santos. right. what was santos? what, what does that tell you? what? why yeah. i mean, you made you said the phrase, matthew valley and this guy, he's 34. you kind of, i mean, the one comment about the 1st part you said that you mentioned your dad, my dad. there's a point where if you have a problem, let's say that was a guy that we knew he was my case. he was the right fielder on the baseball team. right out of high school. we got a bad dwi. it was that guy was never going to run for office because he didn't want
12:49 pm
to have to rehash that. now there's nothing you can't rehash. it seems like there's no shame. i think we'll talk about that next segment but, but back to this point, he is a gay latino, you know, in the republican party. right. it's like, it's like started, oh no, it didn't apply that stuff like that applied as a woman. he wouldn't have like a try fact uh, in terms of all the things that the love tells us and it's kind of kind of less common, right. it's a, it's a little bit like people say, tim scott, the senator from south carolina. it's easiest serious presidential candidate, i say, heck, yeah, he's raised $50000000.00 and he's a black, conservative republican. you stay right there at barton because i think there's a fascinating time to take the george santo's question, the sort the judge at those case and ask ourselves how many others out there. i mean, is george santos, that isolated incidents? or is it really part of the a fabric of the new america? unfortunately, we'll talk about that. by the way. i have a pod cast where i as
12:50 pm
a journalist, as a latino, as an entrepreneur. tell my story and share with you what i've learned about success and growing and failing. it's called the rick sanchez podcast. we talk about some of the things we talk about here. i invite you to check it out and i'll see you there. when we come back though, george santos. how did he get to be able to pull off what he's pulled off and what to say about our political system and what to americans? now think about our own political system. stay with the hey, welcome back. i'm rick sanchez. and i want to show you something, this is a graphic that reveals what's been happening in the united states for well,
12:51 pm
the better part of the last decade. but the question is, how do we as americans feel about our government, do we trust in more or do we trust it less? look at that line. i mean there was a time when americans 77 percent said they generally trusted their government to do the right thing. look how that shift and look forward is now somewhere around 20 percent of americans say they just believe their government. and that's fascinating . that we're back now with none other than the ed martin, former chair of the missouri republican party, staunch of libertarian slash conservative and conservative concern registered by unless judge mental, i'm just, i just don't want to, i don't want to send you the hell for all the stuff that all we all do, but i would say i'm a conservative. well nowadays the labels are all crazy, right? yeah, that's true. and we weren't 1010 years ago,
12:52 pm
we would have been called on our position on say, your national affairs, people would call us like left these. now the left, these won't stick with the common sense, right? well, no, you're absolutely right. there's nobody right now. and i don't want to go of course here, but there's nobody right now who is more hawkish, like crazy, hawkish like war war, war, war war. i mean there chanting. they're there, they're cheering on world war 3. then the left, these the devil trials, bips while the while then and it's like oh, how does that happen? so all right, george, set those up in the case of george santos. yeah, we're looking at a guy who essentially seems to represent much of what we in america have now become and that is a lack of integrity if we're know what the word, right. i mean, you get, say, a guy has integrity when everything that comes out of his mouth can't be believed. and what is that us? is it him, is it a manifestation of what america has become?
12:53 pm
is it just the political world? what is it, what is it that? well, you know, it's interesting. it's what we're thinking around a little bit more even than what it's going to talk about. but i actually think it's a lack of shame, right? it's not, i mean we all have, we all did things remember when you are, i mean when you're a kid, you know, you do so, but i can picture one time when i had a kind of mentor a couple years older than me in sports. and i took his jacket and i thought he wanted me to have it. and so i cut the sleeves off the jacket, and then later the guy came by and he's like, that's my jacket. i was like, i thought you wanted me hot. and i remember having this like i couldn't be seen for for days in his presence. we have shame as able to an end. and here's the thing. i don't actually judge storage santos, i really don't. rick. we're having a lot of real crazy. i don't know. life choices and even the lisay to all that, it shouldn't point the lives he's telling, is part of trying to fulfill. what do you want it to get? what starting to me is a lack of shame, like i, you know, once we get caught in that lie once. yeah. and that's what's changed. what's
12:54 pm
changed? it's one thing to my and the reason why is there's no accountability, what magical get ready to go back in time to far, right. but the president of states bill clinton was caught, you know, doing terrible, terrible things with a woman, whether it was conceptual not there was very little shame about it. yeah. right. right. that and, and say i was struck by the way to be a little bit to be fair but right, right. mean fair. what have actually right, stormy daniels is not. i mean, we know we know it was never said nothing there. it's just that we so i am somehow batch the shift and once it's a shift, you're going to get edge cases like samples who as you pointed out in the last segment, he's really good at this like a few lines directionally to win the election. i mean, this is, i've run for congress, it's hard to succeed. and, and he, he was a directional, we lied to succeed. i'm not saying this, right. i'm saying. so we create this culture with no shame. and that's what i think more and more people. and by the way, rick, if you and i were raised in a world with, with video and photos and social media when we were in our teams. hm. we wouldn't
12:55 pm
be on tv right now. we'd be like, i don't know what we'd be both at both. probably working on this. do you think that's it? do you think the american society, in particular has become nothing but a fake mirage or i guess that's a tall, a just verizon fake kind of mean the same thing. but a mirage of what people want to be rather than what reality is, is that what's happened is as that social media, is it? is it the media in general? what, what the hell happened? well, i well, you know, i think you know, the line that people say uh you will up how takes is down stream from culture. yeah . so what you see in politics is sort of the santos case. you said yourself. wow. like i mean, lying on all these things lying on, things like again, lying about being jewish is like it's like the 3rd rail. if you, if you get credit saying your mother died and during my love and once you get my mean, my god, man, it's, it's like god. so, so somehow we went down the street from culture which has, has allowed this well. now i want to pause and say, since adam and eve were doing,
12:56 pm
you know, hanging out, we've had every, there's been lines. the question is, how, how is it that we're having liars, be so public and prominent and successful and without shame? and that's, that's the thing that's accelerated. i think in the last, say, 15 or 20 years, we have stolen by our valor guys from vietnam or a writer and yeah, there were people, but you, you didn't see things like imagined claim and your, your mom died at $911.00. i mean, this is like inside of the so i don't know i, i think we're down the street from culture and the culture i think is, is um swamped by the instant gratification of, of all the media you listed. yeah. and it's a fun story to watch in that perspective that it's, it gets crazy or all the time and the lives are just really outlanders. but let's put all that aside right now. and one of the things that happens when you step back and watch this is that we live in a siloed society. so you're getting one reaction from the dams. for
12:57 pm
example, the liberals in united states, which is way over the top. they're making this guy out to be the guy with his finger, as you said on the nuclear button when the he's a really kind of a nobody freshman congressman. so what, and probably won't last there very long, but they're making them up. they're making this out to be the most important case in the world. and the republicans are down playing and as you said, for certain reasons. but this conversation should not be a about what one party needs, where the other party needs. this conversation should be about what is fair, what is right. and if someone has done something wrong, they should be out of because that's the way it would be if it was in my corporation or your corporation. but maybe american politics is not like corporations, which means it's kind of broken in a bad way. yeah, i think it's maybe more broken than it's ever been. and then, and i think the reason there is pretty simple and very straightforward. you've
12:58 pm
never seen the acceleration and the accumulation of power and wealth in one place in the swamp, washington, dc and the government. you know, we're talking about 10 trillion dollars added in the last year and a half. we're talking about in the white house right now. john podesta has $371000000000.00 less bond slash fund. literally just to give to green energy supporters. right. so once you put that much money in play, the everything gets distorted. i, i don't want to say that follow the money is the only filter to see on life, but it's pretty good indicator of where things are going and that's what we have. so when i say george santos is vote, is why he will not be pushed out by republicans. what i mean is there's never been power like this. there's never been a central ization of power. and now look, i do think like one thing i want to say, rick, and we've talked again about this all the time. the power of the media in this is really something to be whole. i mean, in the last 5 years we have the russia hoax, which was shown to really be a hoax. bully me, i've had that ukrainian, you know,
12:59 pm
zalinski is saved, so let's keep it. yeah. and i'll be on the mount pleasant mist playing and exaggeration of what, what is a serious story. yeah. and then much so let's go pilot will go more politically partisan, the 100 by laptop which was managed by the intelligence community and the media to affect the election cycle. say what do you want about the election? you watch santos, the very the media and the left are using said it was like t. m z at martin. thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate the conversation . always great to be with you, rick. thank you. hey, before we go, i want to remind you of our mission. simple, really? i want to try and the silo the world. we've gotta stop living in these little boxes where we only want to be around people think like us truths don't live in box. truth is everywhere. i'm research and i'll be looking for you again right here, where i hope to provide a direct impact. the
